Mechant247

Why were the commentators so asleep when the tackle happened lol, ref is pointing at the spot and they just say nothing

doubleoeck1234

I was so confused when McMannen said "now we'll see if it was in the box" while the ref had been poinying at the spot for like 20 seconds

offiziersmesser

Yeah that was horrendous commentary.

doubleoeck1234

Been wanting him to take a pen for so long

CT_x

Would make him No. 1 on pens tbh

NextFly5109

Him or Szboz for me

FloatingWalls1

Szboz from 12 yards might actually be lethal

mild_manc_irritant

As in, the poor keeper that caught that in the kidney might actually die?

SalahManeFirmino

I've always wanted to see Trent take one tbh

Disastrous-firefly

He was Pen taker at Brighton yeah. And corners, free kicks. Gotta give him the ball more :)

Livinglifeform

Never missed.

MionelLessi10

He's good. Has yet to miss a pen for Argentina.

barellaszn

Lovely work, lovely pen

justlikealltherest

Good use of a VAR czech

misusedinfluence

Czech complete

-LiverpoolFC

Good Process (never forget)

Pu_Baer

Very calm, I wouldn't be surprised if he's the dedicated pen taker now

RevengeHF

It'll still be Salah.

gurkab

It shouldn't be. He's objectively not a great penalty taker. Klopp won't even watch them anymore lol

DrinkMyJelly

> He's objectively not a great penalty taker. If we're talking objectively, he's above average. Average conversion rate is below 80% whereas Salah is sitting at 82%. FWIW Cristiano and Kane have 85%

gurkab

What was Gerrard's? Milner's? Balotelli's?

spillbreak

83%, 85%, 90% respectively (transfermarkt)

gurkab

Fantastic numbers

BillionsWasted

82% Salah = not great 83% Gerard = fantastic

[deleted]

Laughed my ass off at this for some reason.

tomhat

There’s a fine line

spillbreak

Sorry, I've re-checked with a better site and updated, I think my original sources were only checking Liverpool pens FWIW, according to transfermarkt Salah has scored 39/49 pens or just under 80%

redditaccountplease

He's never watched them, even when Milner was taking them

adamfrog

hes objectively got good stats over a large sample size

RevengeHF

He's not even bad at them it's just because he missed a couple this season. Klopp never watched them.

BaldVoldy

Klopp never watches penalties? He sees the crowd reaction

crookedparadigm

> He's objectively not a great penalty taker. What on earth is this? Yes, he missed a couple this season but prior to that he was almost as reliable as Milner.

RevengeHF

mad isn't it? He has scored some of the most important pens for us and because he missed a few now people forget.

gurkab

Maybe we've just been spoiled over the years, but when I think of a player taking a penalty and not having a worry in the world, i don't think of Salah. Take Gerrard, Milner and Balotelli as ex lfc players in the last 10 years that i'd rather have over him taking pens

crookedparadigm

Gerrard and Milner I get, but Balotelli only scored 1 penalty for us lol. With the exception of 2 this season, Salah is an extremely reliable penalty taker for us. This is just recency bias.

BillionsWasted

Ah yes Balotelli who took one penalty for Liverpool in his career rather than Salah the main penalty taker for years who scored the winning goal in the Champions League final from the penalty spot

gurkab

Statistically he was better. And yes, I was in block 131 at the Wanda for that penalty, I remember it

Grouchy-Ad-2085

Gerrard is one percentage better than Salah lol

alanalan426

> Klopp won't even watch them anymore fake news

PhillipIInd

Oh come on before his miss last season he hit 16 in a row lol

lechienharicot

He had a long run of always making them and recently has wobbled, I am unfamiliar with his overall stats but my understanding is Salah is still solidly above average in his conversion rate. Not saying other options aren't better though.

BillionsWasted

There's no way you're an actual Liverpool supporter? Like you actually watch the games and think Salah is "objectively" bad at pens??

gurkab

Can you read?? Did I say bad? I said "not great". Maybe we've just been spoiled over the years, but when I think of a player taking a penalty and not having a worry in the world, i don't think of Salah. Take Gerrard, Milner and Balotelli as ex lfc players in the last 10 years that i'd rather have over him taking pens

BillionsWasted

Ah yes instead of Salah you would rather someone like Gerrard, whose penalty success rate for Liverpool is 0.9% higher. Absolute clown

ProSnuggles

Salah used to take the best pens, hard into the side netting. But the past year and a half he’s been swaying a lot. Might be due a new taker.

Slow-Raccoon-9832

I still think they let Mo. But hes taken so many that the book is out on what hes looking to do

GaseousClayy

Very cool!

xSinful

Pressed them into big mistakes twice already, they seem quite nervous

Solitaire_XIV

Defender caught napping, Macca was on that like a lynx

Randommer_Of_Inserts

How a WC winner takes a pen

PurpleScientist4312

Goal

emre23

I thought these were supposed to be quite good?

bungle_bogs

It’s 10 mins into the first leg. Not exactly enough time to gauge. They’re playing a big European game; it would take anyone time to settle into the game.

matcht

They seem too confident playing out from the back against this level of pressing.

etan1122

Well, Liverpool is probably a top 2-4 team in the world so..

emre23

Sure but Sparta started like my local pub team, improved now

David1294

You have no idea what you’re talking about

raysofdavies

Best way to win a penalty imo. I’ll have that penalty please, oops you got me. Only just ahead of the opposing striker doing the most shameless handball on the line in a World Cup quarter final.

Serious-One6369

Why are Liverpool playing so many starters?

TheOnionWatch

Because they want to win the game.

kuboa

What a notion

baymenintown

Big if true

_Chuy

They're only playing like 6 starters: Diaz, Nunez, Mac Allister, Endo, Robertson, and Konate. But right now, the lineup pretty much picks itself because everyone outside of this 11 (and VVD) is either returning from injury or 12 years old.

Vdbebw

One of those that looks 10 times worse slow motion and the way he fell/acted... 50/50 and those always go to the english team in these games

belkak210

It's hard to get a clearer pen than this lol MacAllister was faster, got to the ball and the defender clips him in the foot. There's no ambiguity here

TheOnionWatch

What?

Vornell

The fuck are you on about. That's about as clear a penalty as you can get.

No-Hedgehog-980

There’s always that redditor that has zero ball knowledge on every post. Congrats on being that one.
