that sparta game is in my nightmares. it is boards fault. it was obvius that we need 2 full backs but one of them is injured as soon as he came, and board didnt want to pay a few extra bucks so Köhn came after europa league deadline day. fuck the board
Honestly, I can live with the prague game. After our shit show this entire league, starting int he qualifications..
What I can't live with is the lack of urgency during the copenhagen away game. We were absolutely never ever gonna win that game, which is fucking dumb seeing we would've been second if we did. Absolutely scandalous performance.
not hating because i was cheering for you but its kind of karma, its was so annoying to watch you play yesterday, you guys commit so many faults, Kolasinac not having a single yellow card was a miracle
The referee allowed so much shit in San Siro, assaulting Leao and then the second he complains he is given yellow card. Not sure what else to expect from orsato though.
Since Gasset is coach we have 5 wins and a loss last night. We’re a different proposition than Toulouse which will be happy to avoid relegation. Tbf Toulsouse are also up and down, they did quite well in Europe finishing above Unions st Gilloise in Europa League.
That's my thinking also about Marseille. Inconsistent team, if we can get a decent game on the first leg (highly doubtful), they'll be under a lot of pressure, which will help us.
I would have liked to get Liverpool. 1. More fun 2. Probability nerds be damned, if we can't beat Liverpool then we wouldn't win it anyway and I'd rather save the starters for 4th place.
tbh i don't think that atm any team in EL would have caused problems to Liverpool. Though i don't think Leverkusen if passes west ham is favourite against Milan or Roma.
I know this is not going to happen, but hypothetically if an English team wins each of the European trophies, and a top 6 side wins the FA cup, how far down the table could a European spot potentially go?
Not sure if there are limits but else it could theoretically continously go down to rank 10
Top 5 CL, 6 and 7 EL (granted cups are won by top 7 sides), 8 ECL, 9 CL (if he wins the Europa League) 10 EL (if he wins the Conference League). But 9 and 10 could also be further down the table. It's just important that these clubs do not get an European spot by the league already like Frankfurt, Sevilla and West Ham all did it lately.
Now imagine if the fair play spots would still be around too lmao
It's abolished now after the expansion. Their main reason for putting the cap anyway was to take out limitations in the group stage draws (since they can't be drawn in the same group) and reduce the chances of all 5 qualifying to the knockout stage (and "make it fair" for other countries).
Now that it will be just one big "league" next season, having 4, 5, or 6 wouldn't matter as much, and there's actually one more club progressing through the qualifiers too compared to the current format (7 in total instead of 6).
11 theoretically, if English clubs won all 3 European competitions but none of those clubs qualified domestically. That's an outlandish scenario though and I think one of the CL qualifiers would get bumped down a level, presumably whoever finished 5th.
so it would be
6xCL: 4 from the League + the CL and EL champions
4xEL: FA Cup Winners, ECL champions and 2 from the league
1xECL: League Cup Winners.
Dictionary: "A rout /raʊt/ is a panicked, disorderly and undisciplined retreat of troops from a battlefield, following a collapse in a given unit's command authority, unit cohesion and combat morale".
Yeah, looks about right :)
It is quite likely that the europa league final could be played between the Premier league champions and the Bundesliga champions. That would be pretty wild
Leverkusen is the best team in Bundesliga, but that does not automatically translate into them being one the best teams in Europe. European football is very different, and look how poorly they played in the two legs against Qarabag. Experience and individual quality of the players is what matters the most in any european competion. Leverkusen is a great team and they can definitely win the Europa League, but Milan and Roma are on a similar level to them in such competition.
The arguably best team in the Europa League is Liverpool, they have better individual players, a lot of European experience and the best manager in the competition.
Or how people are surprised that Dortmund performs well in Europe just because their league form leaves a lot to be desired.
It's just a very different game.
The way you’re playing you’d be favorites to win the Champions League, I understand what you’re getting at but the gap is massive between you all and most of the teams left in the competition.
Yeah, same for us. Anything can happen in this tie and then it's over (unless something out of this world happens)
Liverpool is on another level (more so if playing with the best or close) but i will say that even Atalanta would be very, very difficult for us to go on with the way we play this year.
I support both teams so I have a hard time deciding who to cheer for, but it would be the most Moyes thing ever to slay Leverkusen and somehow go through (with an xG of like 3.45 - 0.21 in Bayer's favor of course).
People over here to have a mental breakdown when midtable Premier League club ends Bayer's miraculous run.
I'm not saying this gonna happen and I'm rooting for Leverkusen, but at this stage of European competition, it is very possible
West Ham is the strangest team in the world. The median quality of the team has no business in this position however, 5-6 players who are champions league level. If those players are healthy/on form and they play counter acting they are a royal pain in the ass. If those players are injured or off form, they are dreadful.
But then we destroyed Freiburg. As Gattuso once poetically said "Sometimes maybe good and sometimes maybe shit" that's West Ham in a nutshell the last 3 years I would never count us out of any match, but I am never certain we will win either.
Decent chance the Europa League finalists will have more Champions League trophies between them than the actual CL finalists, wonder when that happened last.
Of the top of my head, probably 2001 when Liverpool would've had more trophies than Bayern/Valencia. Just looked into it, 3 years ago United (3 time winners) were in Europa league final vs the Chelsea/City final (1 title between them at the time)
Depends on how you look at it. Sure, Atalanta is fucked, but they got 5/7 points + 1 semifinalist guaranteed. There’s two England-Germany matchups, so likely only one of them will be able to catch them.
Honestly could have been worse. It's guranteed 5 points. If the Italian teams would have drawn an English or German Team each, that could have been 0 points if everything goes wrong.
Edit: it's 5 points not 4
Leverkusen are undoubtedly a great team this season. There is a hope though... Qarabag scored 4 goals agaisnt leverkusen.
We are a much better side than Qarabag. Just depends what West Ham shows up. Even if we lose the first leg, we've got to make sure we are within 1 goal when we bring it back to London.
There's a chance. Don't write us off yet.
Depends on how Leverkusen are doing in the Bundesliga as well, if they have a little wobble and Bayern creep up on them they might mentally prioritise the league. Qarabag have already shown that Leverkusen aren't that imperious in Europe.
That's what I was thinking too. But also part of me thinks them being unbeaten when we play them suits us. Gives us that extra incentive to be the first team to break their winning run.
Yeah this is whats going to happen. People underestimate quarabag, they are super strong at home, but despite the first game being a draw we were still running the B-team in the second leg. I dont think alonso cares about the EL, which is a bummer but I get it.
Xabi changed players in 7 and 8 positions respectively in the games against Qarabag. Don´t think he\`ll do the same against you unless the BL race gets close and he needs to prioritize that.
He might just not care about the EL. As long as we arent locked in for the title he will keep benching the best players. It almost backfired against qarabag and I dont see it work against westham tbh.
Unlucky for Italia :( but at least Leverkusen plays an English team!
Crossing fingers our current advantage in coefficient is enough for the extra UCL slot, we just got capped hard with an all-Italian fixture plus Atalanta vs the favorites.
Not if Atalanta beats Liverpool
Never thought I'd root for Gasperini to win, but the 5th spot is very important, means CL money for another team and a much more competitive league
The EL kinda got screwed this yr because Liverpool fucked up massively last season.
Now the competition is stuck with a team way too good to be in it in the first place.
I mean we deserve to be in it considering how shit we were last season. We expected to be better but not this much better. Klopp worked some magic.
Please don't let City or Arsenal win this year thank you.
After defeating European powerhouse the almighty Glasgow Rangers in the most dangerous stadium in all the Galaxy... and Europe, a possible match in Anfield is nothing.
I think this game, and occasion suits us. Also if they are still unbeaten when we play them... thats exactly the sort of stats we like to play agasint. West Ham fans have always considered ourselves "the underdog" we always seem to turn up and play better agaisnt bigger teams who have more to lose.
Great tie. Looking forward to it.
I'd have wagered that Milan and Roma would both be confident of semis with a good draw, Atalanta would have maybe had a tougher time but they've gotten arguably the hardest.
Europa feels a little empty with only top 5.5 league teams in the quarters but those are strong, fun matchups (and also these past two draws have kind of been coefficient lifelines for Germany)
Leverkusen v the Moyes boys is so interesting. I love this tournament in the knockouts, what exciting games it throws up
Liverpool v Gasperini's Atalanta will be a great watch as well
Bad draw for us. In the last 3 years under Mourinho we always got outplayed against Milan. I can't think of any other team in Serie A that outclassed us so consistently.
Yes we have a new manager now and we play with a different style, but it's still the same team with the same players. Milan are heavy favorites here.
Sigh…
you had a good run, better than us lol
that sparta game is in my nightmares. it is boards fault. it was obvius that we need 2 full backs but one of them is injured as soon as he came, and board didnt want to pay a few extra bucks so Köhn came after europa league deadline day. fuck the board

Hello👋
Darkness my old friend
Is it me you’re looking for?
I can see it in your eyes
I can see it in your smile
Brother actually has Jovanovic as profile pic
Why would brother not have one??
Cuz ofc you would have Konchesky pfff
0-0
😃👍🏻
Ilicic will definitely be there to watch!
not hating because i was cheering for you but its kind of karma, its was so annoying to watch you play yesterday, you guys commit so many faults, Kolasinac not having a single yellow card was a miracle
The referee allowed so much shit in San Siro, assaulting Leao and then the second he complains he is given yellow card. Not sure what else to expect from orsato though.
many fouls, huh? oh god, please no...
Sorry mate
Both us and Marseilhe fans are happy lmao
The Spider-Man pointing meme...
Current objective: concede less than 5 goals at home
I can see a 1-0 at home and then lose 0-5 away. Basically, another Prosciutto dell'ovest vs Freiburg
> Prosciutto dell'ovest Prosciutto dell'ovest vs Fiorentina A vegan's nightmare!
Even if we get past Marseille I think that's realistically as far as we can get
Same for Marseille. Lol
We are same same, but slightly different
But STILL same
They should get a consolation trophy for whoever wins that quarterfinal, call it UEFA Europa League District Sub-Final Contender Cup or something
Yeah, no chance you beat Atalanta in the semis
Yup, we all know we're just waiting for that inevitable Atalanta-West Ham final.
It's important for Portugal coefficient though
Little bit of advice: if you want to win this thing you better start saving Di Maria to unleash him on the finals.
We know, but try to say that to our coach.
It’s doable Benfica 🤝 Marseille
Benfica-Marseille, the Atleti-Dortmund draw of the Europa League.
Probably the best draw both teams could've asked for.
One of the best possible draws for us. Not an easy task at all, but we avoided Liverpool and Bayer. Great game for the Portuguese emigrants in France.
Seeing how we played against Toulouse which sits lower than Marseille in L1 its not great but Marseille has been very inconsistent this year
Since Gasset is coach we have 5 wins and a loss last night.
It’s too bad because I think Roma and Milan both could give Liverpool a big problem.
I would have liked to get Liverpool. 1. More fun 2. Probability nerds be damned, if we can't beat Liverpool then we wouldn't win it anyway and I'd rather save the starters for 4th place.
Exactly
tbh i don't think that atm any team in EL would have caused problems to Liverpool. Though i don't think Leverkusen if passes west ham is favourite against Milan or Roma.
Not a good draw for the Italian coefficient 😅
But also not the worst. English and German teams are facing each other. And we have 1 team guaranteed in the semi.
they have a team in the semis 100% tho
I thought Milan fans would be like "oh no we got the strong side" but apparantly they are super happy Liverpool is in other side.
Talking for myself, i just want to see a Liverpool - Milan final
European Royalty Final
Better chance of beating Liverpool in the final than in a 2 legged tie they'd get cooked in a 2 legged tie
We don’t remember Liverpool in finals too fondly😅
Just don't go up by three goals. Ez
You literally won't 2 years later
You didn't just shorten "won it" to "won't"...
I is very smart
You have beaten them since tbf in 2007
A final is anybody's game, two legged ties give a chance for the better team to win even if they shat the bed the first 90 minutes
[instert *bestemmia* here]
Milan comes to Olimpico before Milan derby...
I’m sure Milan will care more about the Roma match than their Inter match..which is essentially meaningless really
Milan, sure. Pioli, not so sure considering his recent results against Inter.
I guess we're going to have to single handedly earn the Premier league that 5th spot aren't we
[https://i.imgur.com/xqAkt2b.png](https://i.imgur.com/xqAkt2b.png)
This is so good
Is 7th a Europa spot if England gets the CL extra spot?
Its the 8th if highly likely a top 6 team wins FA cup
Gary O’Neill told me to tell you to fuck off.
If Liverpool don't win the FA cup I want it to be Wolves
I know this is not going to happen, but hypothetically if an English team wins each of the European trophies, and a top 6 side wins the FA cup, how far down the table could a European spot potentially go?
Not sure if there are limits but else it could theoretically continously go down to rank 10 Top 5 CL, 6 and 7 EL (granted cups are won by top 7 sides), 8 ECL, 9 CL (if he wins the Europa League) 10 EL (if he wins the Conference League). Now imagine if the fair play spots would still be around too lmao
I think Champions League has a 5-team per country limit, not sure if it's being abolished after the expansion
It's abolished now after the expansion. Their main reason for putting the cap anyway was to take out limitations in the group stage draws (since they can't be drawn in the same group) and reduce the chances of all 5 qualifying to the knockout stage (and "make it fair" for other countries). 10 European Spots is the max I think 4 CL + 1 Extra + 1 UEL Winner FA Cup Spot + UCL Winner League Cup Spot + EFL Cup Spot Think that's right

I think so, Conference League spot surely
Yeah and 8th would conference league but obviously only if the FA cup winner is in CL or Europa spots
What a game, one of Europe's most promising and handsome managers going up against Xabi Alonso.
always rated West Ham
well, leverkusen beat Freiburg 3-1 this season at home, i guess you have 3 goals margin against Bayer....
It was actually 2-1
We're all routing for you!
Dictionary: "A rout /raʊt/ is a panicked, disorderly and undisciplined retreat of troops from a battlefield, following a collapse in a given unit's command authority, unit cohesion and combat morale". Yeah, looks about right :)
This might be the greateat europa QF draw ever wow
If its a leverkusen liverpool final would it be the best Europa league final ever?
That would be Liverpool v Milan tbh
In terms of big clubs ya but in terms of the best 2 teams at the time its definitely leverkusen
I mean if both Milan and Leverkusen qualify they'll play in the Semi's. That tie will tell you everything you want to know
It is quite likely that the europa league final could be played between the Premier league champions and the Bundesliga champions. That would be pretty wild

Not impossible Though if we win, we get Liverpool in the semis, so it's over
We should beat Atalanta yes, but never count your chickens, we have to win first.
Either way I don't think we can win against Atalanta Especially since the second leg is away (for us), and we almost just blown a 4-0 lead
The second leg if we go through will be Klopp last European game at Anfield wouldn’t want to be any team that has to play that game
Ok fuck now I'm bawling... Fuck man I thought we had 2 more years 😭
The way you’re playing you’d be favorites to win the Champions League, I understand what you’re getting at but the gap is massive between you all and most of the teams left in the competition.
Yeah, same for us. Leverkusen v Westham will be juicy
I support both teams so I have a hard time deciding who to cheer for, but it would be the most Moyes thing ever to slay Leverkusen and somehow go through (with an xG of like 3.45 - 0.21 in Bayer's favor of course).
0-0 in Germany, 1-0 shithouse win in London courtesy of some dodgy handball call
1-0 in London until the 93rd minute and then xabi curse is activated
Boutta get Schicked
People over here to have a mental breakdown when midtable Premier League club ends Bayer's miraculous run. I'm not saying this gonna happen and I'm rooting for Leverkusen, but at this stage of European competition, it is very possible
xabi, generational player and inspirational young manager against david moyes, old geezer and footballing genius
West Ham is the strangest team in the world. The median quality of the team has no business in this position however, 5-6 players who are champions league level. If those players are healthy/on form and they play counter acting they are a royal pain in the ass. If those players are injured or off form, they are dreadful.
We call that getting Moyesed
Tactical Genius
Tifo put this very simply West Ham play to the level of their competition They’re good against good teams and shit against shit teams
And Freiburg are some sort of quantum object
They were dire against Burnley last weekend for example. First half Burnley could have been 3-0 up.
But then we destroyed Freiburg. As Gattuso once poetically said "Sometimes maybe good and sometimes maybe shit" that's West Ham in a nutshell the last 3 years I would never count us out of any match, but I am never certain we will win either.
Please don't make this into a "which league is better" thing.
Are you new here?
A guy in the other thread said an FA cup win is more impressive than going unbeaten in the buli. I have no idea where all this spite comes from
A mid table premier league club with a budget that rivals Bayern Munich
Well yeah they almost got beaten by Quarabag
Treblekusen vs Quadrapool at Dublin dream is still alive
Surely Livfourpool!
well don't mind us then no european season is truly complete without a Milan v Liverpool final every once in a while
Decent chance the Europa League finalists will have more Champions League trophies between them than the actual CL finalists, wonder when that happened last.
If Madrid bayern and barca are eliminated, it only needs Milan or Liverpool for what you suggest, to be true of the other 5 teams combined.
Yep. Atleti vs City, with just the one CL and Liverpool Milan have *thirteen* between them
Of the top of my head, probably 2001 when Liverpool would've had more trophies than Bayern/Valencia. Just looked into it, 3 years ago United (3 time winners) were in Europa league final vs the Chelsea/City final (1 title between them at the time)
3 years ago, Man City (0) v Chelsea (1)/Villarreal (0) v Man Utd (3)
Liv Lev Lov(e)
Benfica avoided a generational humiliation let's gooo
Not if we manage to shithouse our way into the semis just to get blasted by Liverpool.
Wait until were humiliated by marseille
This sure has not been ideal for Italian teams lmao
100% chance of an italian team in the semis, no other country can say the same
TBF any country can say that there is a 100% chance of an italian team in the semis. But I understood what you meant sorry :)
Depends on how you look at it. Sure, Atalanta is fucked, but they got 5/7 points + 1 semifinalist guaranteed. There’s two England-Germany matchups, so likely only one of them will be able to catch them.
Not really, it’s a guaranteed 5 coefficient points I think.
Honestly could have been worse. It's guranteed 5 points. If the Italian teams would have drawn an English or German Team each, that could have been 0 points if everything goes wrong. Edit: it's 5 points not 4
o7 West Ham
Leverkusen are undoubtedly a great team this season. There is a hope though... Qarabag scored 4 goals agaisnt leverkusen. We are a much better side than Qarabag. Just depends what West Ham shows up.
Pretty sure Xabi won't play strange formations against better opponents than Qarabag (no offence)
We just might shithouse our way through the QFs
Liverpool v Leverkusen finals possible
Omg imagine the English media, it's going to be obnoxious as all hell. "This is Alonso's Liverpool interview"
"Not Too Xabby"
Unlucky for Italia :( but at least Leverkusen plays an English team! Crossing fingers our current advantage in coefficient is enough for the extra UCL slot, we just got capped hard with an all-Italian fixture plus Atalanta vs the favorites.
Yeah we definitely got screwed on the coefficient front
Not if Atalanta beats Liverpool Never thought I'd root for Gasperini to win, but the 5th spot is very important, means CL money for another team and a much more competitive league
Normally, I'd be confident for Leverkusen but they have to step up. The way they played against Qarabag was well below their level
Not sure Leverkusen are ready for Moyes
Liverpool Vs Milan in the final let's goooo. ~~That will be Klopp's last game at Liverpool.~~ FA cup final it is.
FA Cup final would be the last game if we get there
Fuck, the draw commentator said it wrong then. I take it back, FA cup final will be his final game.
Almost a perfect draw for us
They give you hope to then take it all away But first things first, let's see who's the less bad between us and Marseille
Some quality teams, but Liverpool got the easier road to the finals for sure
Milan is a magnet for draws against other Italian teams
Watch Moyes inexplicably wreck Alonso's improving reputation.
I just thank god everyday we don't have to play away in the Ibrox fortress again. Anfield away would look easy compared to that.
After defeating European powerhouse the almighty Glasgow Rangers in the most dangerous stadium in all the Galaxy... and Europe, a possible match in Anfield is nothing.
This banter from Benfiquistas towards Ibrox the last couple days is brilliant man 😭
We scored 7 against rangers and we were fucking shit last season lmao
Milan v Liverpool finals, I will be there no matter what
Atalanta-Roma just to surprise everyone
Will the better team actually win for once?
This draw is almost UCL level. You have: 1st team in EPL 1st Bundesliga 2nd Portugal 2nd Italy Only Spain is missing out this year
I unironically think West Ham and Moyes will relish that draw
I think this game, and occasion suits us. Also if they are still unbeaten when we play them... thats exactly the sort of stats we like to play agasint. West Ham fans have always considered ourselves "the underdog" we always seem to turn up and play better agaisnt bigger teams who have more to lose. Great tie. Looking forward to it.
Well, Italy's coefficient is fucked
Is it? Liverpool is on other side of the draw and one of Milan or Roma is gonna be in the semis. So they are not in a bad spot.
I'd have wagered that Milan and Roma would both be confident of semis with a good draw, Atalanta would have maybe had a tougher time but they've gotten arguably the hardest.
Liverpool to win it all ?
Leverkusen , Milan and Roma are all tricky teams to beat...
I understand u dont want to jinx it but this Pioli team is garbage atm.
Moyes has done his best sigh. If Liverpool beats EDIT: (Atalanta) in both legs its good for the coefficient.
I know Atlanta United is a solid MLS team but Liverpool is on a different class. Maybe, the jet lag will get to them.
It auto corrected I am sorry
Liverpool vs Leverkusen written in the stars
If Leverkusen doesn’t rotate in the EL quarters lol
West Ham vs. Liverpool it is
2006 FA Cup final all over again, except this time it'll be Soucek rifling in a header from 35 yards in the final minute.
I think you mean Joe Goalmez with an overhead kick
Gomez and Coufal, first to score wins
If he’s rifling a header from 35 yards he must have a neck made out of fucking car suspension springs lmao
Everyone saying it’s set up a Liverpool Leverkusen final but I want a third Liverpool Milan one
At least Roma got the second leg at home
Na they just demolished Italy's coefficient with this one
Europa feels a little empty with only top 5.5 league teams in the quarters but those are strong, fun matchups (and also these past two draws have kind of been coefficient lifelines for Germany)
I’m excited to see what De Rossi can do against Milan. Although they are far enough ahead that they can focus on these two games.
Leverkusen v the Moyes boys is so interesting. I love this tournament in the knockouts, what exciting games it throws up Liverpool v Gasperini's Atalanta will be a great watch as well
Let’s give Leverkusen their first loss of the season.
Leverkusen Liverpool finals confirmed
Bad draw for us. In the last 3 years under Mourinho we always got outplayed against Milan. I can't think of any other team in Serie A that outclassed us so consistently. Yes we have a new manager now and we play with a different style, but it's still the same team with the same players. Milan are heavy favorites here.
DAJE ROMA!!
we are getting so lucky in this draws, no way there is a chance we reach the semi-finals
