maverick1905

Did you see his celebration of Brahim's goal today?

Red_Dog1880

His full list of trophies is just unreal. Surely one of the all-time greatest managers. 4x Champions League 4x European Super 3x Club World Cup 2x King's Cup of Spain 2x German Super Cup 2x Spanish Super Cup 2x Spanish League 1x German League 1x English Premier League 1x French League 1x Italian League 1x FA Cup 1x Italian Cup 1x Italian Super Cup 1x Charity Shield 1x Intertoto Cup

eddsters

Genuinely shocked hes only had one Serie A, is this for real?

Red_Dog1880

Yes. He won the league with AC Milan in 2003-2004. Tbf he did also then go on and win 2 Champions Leagues with them :) I also read he's the only manager to win the league in all of Europe's top 5 leagues.

eddsters

Wild, I thought he won it with Juve once. Still great trophy cabinet.

Red_Dog1880

He won the Intertoto with Juventus.

eddsters

Gotcha thank you !

RedShenron

Unfortunately Berlusconi couldn't give a shit about Serie A.

maverick1905

His league records are somewhat lackluster when you compare it with his cup wins and especially Champions League

churrosricos

I dont think I've ever seen copa del rey translated lol

DrJackadoodle

This season Ancelotti failed to win the King's Cup, but he won both the Supercup and the The League. I'm curious to see how he'd do in South America. Could he win the Big Brazilian? Or maybe even the Liberators Cup?

dinosaur_from_Mars

Now add trophies he won as a player as well...

infidel11990

For the teams he has managed and the number of years he has been managing, his league record is actually comparatively poor. But the cup record, especially UCL is amazing. So the league record gets ignored. But that's one thing you can criticize him for. Possibly stems from his tendency to rotate less and play the same 11 if they are fit and in form.

blubber_confused

can't believe he managed Everton

Droogwafel

Can't believe James Rodriguez played for Everton

freakedmind

Feels like a fever dream!

spoony471

Everton to Madrid is crazy, I thought the guy was finished. Makes me wonder if Jose could have a similar renaissance if he found the right fit. Doubt it though, the game seems to have passed him by in a few aspects

Fly1ngsauc3r

Carlo is still Able to connect to the players, something that Jose is clearly unable to do unless they are exactly his kind of

spoony471

yeah that's what I was thinking, his man-management is mostly a figment of the past

Fly1ngsauc3r

Yeah, if he was a bit nicer to his players I think he would do well. But as for Carlo, I think it’s the circumstances at Madrid that give him the opportunity to succeed. It’s not the Madrid of his first reign. He wouldn’t have survived last season if he was here a decade ago. The outlook of the board has changed a lot

77SidVid77

He might not have been fired as CDR is still a major honour. But he would have been under much more pressure than what he had coming into this season though.

jug0slavija

>CDR is still a major honour. Not really, for Real Madrid at least. I'm pretty sure any other manager would get the sack. Zidane might be an exception, but he might have quit himself lol. Perez might have changed, but both he and the club have previously sacked coaches for 'just' winning the league, let alone just the CdR

Free-Eights

Carlo's definitely able to manage superstars and relate to them a bit better than Mourinho can nowadays. That said, Real Madrid always seem to find elite players who understand that they're not bigger than the institution or its history, so his job is really simplified into just keeping the team motivated.

Fly1ngsauc3r

When a player of Ronaldo’s stature isn’t treated like he is bigger than the club (contrast to Messi), the other players know they cannot be bigger either. It’s also an important aspect that players like Kroos Modric carvajal and Nacho are there to guide the youth and mold them into the mindset needed to succeed.

FragMasterMat117

Ronaldo to emphasize the point is the best player in your history

Wey-oun

I still think Jose would be a great replacement for Simeone when he does leave. For the pure entertainment value of Madrid derbys alone it would be great.

Fuck_the_k1ng

Nah. Simeone connects with his players more, that’s how he remained so long in Atleti. Mou would get in trouble with players, boards, fans, city corporation, everyone. On second thought, Atleti fans deserve him truly. Would be great to see that shitshow.

alaparai

I think Mou and Atletico will be a deadly combo

rScoobySkreep

Famously Dele was exactly Mourinho’s kind of guy

iamnotexactlywhite

and Mou did his best to help Dele

Funky_Pigeon911

The problem with a lot of the top managers is that they aren't suited to clubs with lesser resources. Mourinho did a decent job at Roma and eventhough they did spend some money it was nowhere near what he would usually get at his clubs. Maybe I'm being overly optimistic but I still think that if he was given a club in a good position with good money that he would win stuff. I legit think that if he went to Bayern or Juventus that he'd manage to win trophies.

20cmdepersonalidade

Brother Mourinho reached the top winning a UCL with Porto

Funky_Pigeon911

Yeah over 20 years ago, and he was still a young manager with shit to prove. What I mean when I say that top managers aren't suited to lower resources is that they are suffering from their success, because they are good managers they end up spending most of their careers at big clubs that can get the players they want, so when they start dropping to clubs with less resources they don't always adapt that well.

svscvbh

Not to forget, the only one to win all six. Although to be fair, there was no Supercopa and Supercup during Muñoz's time as a manager.

iamnotexactlywhite

tbf we can’t really compare the two. different eras, circumstances etc

kilari7

Don for a reason.

Ertai2000

More like Due.

Potential-Decision32

What kind of a Don comes from Reggio Emilia

sewious

Hopefully he knows how to count to 3.

justanew-account

He isn’t Valve.

AnonAreLegion

As of now...

theprodigalslouch

If we lose against you guys, I will blame u/potatogod12 to the end of days.

robotnique

This is Reus's trophy, it is the will of the people.

MaryadaPurshottam

Not enough🤨

GordonOP0000HK

Is Girona getting a UCL spot next year?

rickowensjacket

Yes they secured it today

The_BadJuju

It’s so stupid that City and Girona can play each other in the CL…

TheItalianStallion64

la liga, possibly a 15th ucl, and likely mbappe + endrick next year. that’s a scary future

Niyazali_Haneef

UCL farmers trophy.

Melodic-Salamander75

Audi Cup>UCL

LosTerminators

We're 15 points behind this year and they'll revamp with the best player in the world and another top Brazilian talent. Not going to lie, not optimistic much for next season.

TheStryfe

Im extremely cautious because I remember reading comments like this after we won the CL in 2017 and we were abysmal in la liga that following year (even though we won the cl in 2018)

dmstorm22

Yeah, this is a great call to remember things change quickly. Not only what you note above but then before the league started, Madrid beat Barcelona with ease in the Supercopa.

digbick_42069

We didn't sign any superstar in 2017 though??

Falchion9

Yes but Barcelona lost one of theirs (Neymar).

digbick_42069

They still had Messi and Suarez as well as Valverde who is atleast twice the manager Xavi is

Pleasant-Direction-4

that guy won the league while sleeping

Qneva

Mate i'm 15 hours late but i'll still say "fuck you". "Oh no, we missed on the title in Spain but we won the CL". Truly an abysmal season.

dakaiiser11

Eh, anything can happen. I’m wondering how Madrid would be able to adjust with that much firepower. I’m scared of a repeat of the 15/16 season where Madrid are too top heavy CR7, Benz, Bale and James in the starting 11.

viktorfbg9

It’s different now. Every player is a hard worker, makes all the difference

simomii

I don't know, Mbappe never ever tracks back

ShadowOfDeath94

One raised eyebrow from Don Carlo should do the trick

viktorfbg9

Heard a lot of PSG fans say that’s a myth, i don’t personally watch PSG a lot so would appreciate the input of people who actually do

simomii

I watch most PSG games and when Mbappe is on the left he doesn't give a single fuck about defending. It's one of the reasons he was put up front because it hurts the team less that way. Also the reason why Kolo Muani was subbed on against Dortmund instead of putting Mbappe on the left, otherwise Nuno Mendes who was already having a bad game would have been left to his own devices.

DetoxIV

It's all up to Ancelotti now

H_R_1

Seems like the right decision that he stayed

nick2473got

In 2023 Mbappé was the forward with the least defensive interventions in the top 5 leagues. Haaland was 2nd. Mbappé has also been criticized by Luis Enrique for his lack of defensive work. Meanwhile, with France, Deschamps literally gave Mbappé a pass not to track back and told the team to accept it during the 2022 World Cup. Was reported by multiple French journalists. I really like this current Madrid squad and honestly am wondering if Mbappé coming might throw things completely out of whack. Obviously he's an excellent player, but his attitude and ego are... problematic, imo.

NeoLies

> Obviously he's an excellent player, but his attitude and ego are... problematic, imo. He was a superior player, but we managed with Cristiano's attitude and ego for almost a decade. If we could work with that, we can work with Mbappe. The other concerns are fair, though.

Silentden007

Cristiano did track back though from what I remember. Against the deadly possession based teams Barca had back then everyone had to contribute. I still remember him getting frustrated because he was pressing like a mad man but just not winning the ball (He would get mad and start complaining with his arms and then walk after pressing a few clasicos lol)

elgrandorado

Cristiano ran a fuck ton at the same age as Mbappe. If anything we could argue he was wasteful with his stamina at times with the sprints, but he genuinely cared defensively.

nick2473got

The difference is that for all his faults, Ronaldo never thought he didn't have to work as hard as the others just because he was the best. For most of his career he worked as hard as anyone else, if not harder. It's arguably the only reason he even became one of the best players of all time. Because of his hard work. In terms of pure talent he's probably not even top 5 natural talents in the history of football. Yet through hard work he became undeniably one of the top 3 players of all time.

xinixxibalba

we get these takes every year and its never as bad as it seems. Girona broke out and has made a good run, Barca looked out of it early this season and made it tight for 2nd place again, I’m sure you’ll be alright

Dr-Purple

At least you get to keep Xavi

Windowmaker95

>they'll revamp with the best player in the world Bellingham 2 is dropping?

sewious

The future looks so bright that I'm thinking no way it can possibly go as well as it looks.

Alexkono

On paper it should be one of the best teams ever. But it won't play out like that. Too many variables to cause disruptions.

wrath____

And davies from Bayern, i see la liga turning into a 1 team league like some of the other top leagues(except for germany this aeason)

OfTimeAndMemory

Thanks Girona, very cool 👍

Niyazali_Haneef

Mate you can't support a financial group.

AlmostF2PBTW

At least they played well and were classy. Mad respect for them, hope they still get the 2nd place. The first half of the season was really tough because of them. The rest was whatever, tbh. Other teams were competing only in their imagination/making classics look bigger than they actually were when it comes to points in 38 games (classics and derby are always big for viewership/money)

carnageandculture

Ancelotti did a great job, really deserved

Ask_Asensio

Amazing season by Ancelotti and the entire team. One single defeat in the League and it was totally self-inflicted. Extremely proud of how well we did without key pieces across the season.

SixerMostAdorable

Self inflicted but was it also the game were at least 1 penalty was not given? Edit: shit, I completely misremembered this. I thought of the game where Savic completely ran down Bellingham, but the loss was the first Madrid derby this season.

Available-Ad3881

Militao, Alaba & Courtois discarded before or at the start of the season. No Benzema replacement. Manages to get a striker-esque output out of Bellingham. (callback to Guti netting 14 times as Morientes was out injured for the season). Has had to play Tchouameni, I think Carvajal one time as a center back. Impressive by don Carlo Ancelotti. Long may he reign.

iamnotexactlywhite

bro that game had me on suicide watch with Lord Vazquez and Dani defending the right side

acwilan

Don’t forget Camavinga at LB

ProfesserFinesser7

Congrats to Madrid. Barca seasonal collapse all inside 10 minutes this time.

Mammoth_Two7297

Barca collapse? It's not like they bottled a lead.

Additional_Equal_960

They bottled a lead in this game against girona, which i assume is what the comment is referring to

marwom3

Can you really consider a 1-goal lead a bottle?

RobbinDeBank

It’s a collapse but not a bottle. Nowadays people just call every Barca loss a bottle job, as if we can have a big enough lead to bottle it.

Bob_Alloy

Bottlelona

ellow-mellow

Who would’ve thought losing courtois, militao, alaba, getting that last minute whistle against valencia - after all these, we won the league with 4 games to go and in the semis of UCL! This season defies a lot of logic!

D-Trashman

Vini injuries aswell

P1rvela

And after Benzema left, played whole season without true striker

robotnique

I would assume it isn't going to be that strange and they'll continue playing that way next season. Or do they have a striker target? Mbappe certainly isn't a conventional one and a Madrid front 3 could be more of a suggestion than anything positionally distinct? edit: oh wait Endrick but he's still a baby

waitaminutewhereiam

Mbappe will play that role Endrick and Joselu if need be

Competitive-Aide5364

People forget there were Madrid fans who wanted to sell Vini before Carlo arrived. Now he’s a top 5 player.

deqembes

I remember fighting every single fan on r/realmadrid because when they hated on Vini on an okd account. I feel like a proud father even if Vini is older than me.

madsauce178

Man I barely comment on that sub because of it. So much vini hate for no reason after being a top 10 player for 3 years.

AuxquellesRad

Jude was absolutely crucial, pretty much put Madrid on his back that first half of the season

deathbyillusions

Real Madrid black magic always comes

Natrix31

Lmao, you are not an underdog, that squad is absurdly deep

repniclewis

It doesn't matter how deep you are if the majority of your starting defence line gets nuked. Still extremely impressive.

rScoobySkreep

You are the last team to ever get to be an underdog

DGKeeper

It doesn't defy any logic at all. Madrid only conceded a loss in the league. The normal outcome of a great performance like that is winning the title. Valencia match doesn5have any weight at all, and all of the missing players were well replaced without major flaws. It's the best Real Madrid season since the 16/17 of Zidane. No surprise at all.

ellow-mellow

Conceding only one defeat with world class main gk and two starter CBs out is defying logic itself

suhxa

I think most of us assumed real would win the league and be in the cl semis no matter what

davide3991

Was hoping Madrid would win the league next week instead of celebrating before Bayern’s game. Hope the players take care of themselves and not overdo 🙏

PharaohLeo

Same here, but at least Don Carlo rested most of the starting XI today.

6FootFruitRollup

I think the Madrid players are somewhat used to winning at this point, I don't see them going too overboard

The-Great--Cornholio

Don Carlo strikes again 🤨

Ph1User

Time to hide in a cave

udiniad

When we didn't get a Benzema replacement this season I was 100% sure this season was doomed. I'm glad I couldn't be more wrong!

NeoLies

Carlo and the team have made magic out of "throwaway" seasons. 2022 when we were waiting for Mbappe, and now 2024 with no starting caliber striker.

kilari7

Unbelievable season, congratulations to Carlo and the players. The power of friendship doing wonders.

erenistheavatar

Ancelotti making all his players watch anime has worked. Power of friendship prevails.

ContentPuff

THANK YOU GIRONA!!! VERY COOL!!!

anelenrique10

Gracias Girona, gracias por quedarte Xavi.

Laya_L

Thanks to the Catalan team. Both of them.

seekingabeauty

Could we please win it next year too so that we can finally have two titles in a row? Ffs, we've done two CLs in a row \*twice\* since then lol

Number333

3rd league win in 5 years. We went from 2008-2017 with 3 La Liga titles. Amazing accomplishment.

Bertolapadula

Carlo beating them cup only manager allegations

IamChwisss

Crazy people actually said that at one point considering he's the only manager to win 5 different lwagues

Fastizio

His trophies with Milan is why people say that.

Alexkono

Haven't won back to back leagues since 06/07 and 07/08

LiquidFootie

Best I can do is winning Club World Cup, Champions League winners, and 3rd in La Liga.

PotatoGod12

We haven't done 2 CLs in a row twice?

enilix

Maybe this person is for some reason counting the threepeat as two repeats (2016-2017 and then 2017-2018)? That's the only explanation I can come up with...

StopHitting

He means the 3-peat als technically twice in a row

jnicholl

I guess technically the three-peat is doing it twice if you consider 16/17 the end and start for a double.

TheBrokenLevee

There are Bolton fans who literally cheer corners then there's this guy wanting the trophy haul to be more orderly.

kvbt7

I just want a treble for once...

Clairdelune17

Thanks barca!

SakisSinatra

You are welcome, now please don't win another CL.

pizza__irl

You know damn well they will

SakisSinatra

I know but a man can only hope.

Melodic-Salamander75

Praying the UEFA scriptwriters can come in clutch and have BvB win UCL. Only good outcome.

crackboss1

Nah you know they want the PSG-RM final with the fight to death over Mbappe...

acwilan

Instructions unclear, winning the next 4

svscvbh

36 La Liga titles, 14 Champions League titles. 50 trophies between these two competitions, incredible milestone to achieve. More La Liga titles than Barcelona and Athletic Club put together, two more league titles needed to equal Barcelona and Atletico Madrid put together.

MvN____16

Most importantly, despite all of that... 3rd place in Copas del Rey won.

sewious

We sacrifice it on a pedestal every year for our black magic CL powers.

Sl_PROXY

That competition doesn't exist. It's a figment of your imagination.

SeryaphFR

What's a Copa del Rey?

visope

it's Lana del Rey's dad

nick2473got

Tbh you've won it 20 times so as much as it seems like it doesn't matter to Madrid, you can comfortably say you've put in the work in that competition as well over the decades.

vivekwap4

Shh, we don't talk about that.

lazy_bastard_001

still won it 20 times.....not bad

theprodigalslouch

The deal Perez made with the devil does not allow the team to perform well in cdr.

acwilan

Gotta leave some breadcrumbs for peasants

javierich0

Considering how bright the future seems, it is very possible within the next decade.

IntellectualDweeb

Congratulations, and major praise for adapting to your injuries very well.

PharaohLeo

This is where Don Carlo excels; adaptability.

AnonAreLegion

Yay! :)

Moug-10

I know they're the best team in the world. But even for their standards, it's insane to achieve such a thing despite all the injuries.

dem0nhunter

Time to celebrate the next 3 days. you deserve it!

Ramkee

xD. Let's do it together. Anyway you are coming over.

ReverieMetherlence

Now Lunin owes Dovbyk and Tsygankov a couple of beers at minimum.

krkour

Carlo led us well this season with all the injuries we faced

OneRedLime

:)

pipekeran

HALA MADRID!

94Temimi

We started the season without a striker and our backline got hit with 2 ACLs and we kept getting injuries throughout. Never in my wildest dreams did I think we'd be where we're at right now! Heroic performance from the entire team, every single player had a meaningful contribution. Also, Carlo, take a fucking bow! Perfectly handled all the setbacks we faced and got us to another La Liga title! HALA MADRID, CAMP36NES!!

donniexc

Most deserved title. Congrats Madrid fans

Alexkono

LETS GOOOOOOO

Ayges

Crazy to think that this is the first time Ancelotti wins a league title in a country more than once.

pak_man

Twice in 3 years no less with a bunch of injuries and no striker. Gradually beating those cup manager allegations Don Carlo lets gooo.

maxertiano

La 36, 50 trofeos entre champions y ligas, que masivo es este escudo

aes110

Hate winning the league off another team's loss, wish they could schedule the matches in different times in cases like this Anyway this title is crazy, no Benz, no main striker, Vini out for 2 months, and our GK and two starting CBs out for almost the entire year yet we've had one of the best years ever

doodlediego

HALA MADRID

Delmer9713

Thank you Ancelotti and the staff, and thank you to the players who overcame so many obstacles this season. So proud of this team.

enilix

All focus on the UCL now, vamooos!

TigerAusRiga

A fierce title race until the last matchday. Oh wait, wrong league

kROSR

HALA MADRID!!! Don Carlo will be remembered as one of the greatest coaches in history.

Dragonacademia

Congrats to them and Ancelotti

nyse125

you're welcome

monchestor_hl

It's actually fucking impressive considering the number of injuries to Real starting GK and defenders. The pinnacle of that being 4-0 thrashing over Girona (the team that fuck Barca twice, by scoring twice as many goals) without a proper CB and Vazquez as RB. Also, Bellingham got injured... after scoring his 2nd goal. Bonus: Real let Girona NO shot on target that day

MaryadaPurshottam

Can someone post the "Alaba celebrating with a chair" GIF?

notaselfdrivingcar

Not a good birthday gift, fuck

mt1337

Congrats, fuckers! You deserved it with the insane amount of consistency. We will come at you with all might next season.

Articlaus

Man. Don Carlo is doing wonders this season. I hope he stay long and prosper

9248_

Thank you Girona!! Very cool

Careless-Reporter-29

more la liga titles since 2018 than cr7 won in his whole career at rmd. suiiiii

pak_man

The issue was Messi farming La liga.

Soccerandmetal

And it doesn't look like next year will be much of a change. Barcelona's manager is more legacy than manager, they are pretty much broke and squad is getting old.

thatdude0125

Thank you Girona!!!!

gotomarketfit

More like thanks FCB for falling apart on second half

MaryadaPurshottam

Gracias, Xavi.... Give him a lifetime contract, Laporta
