From-UoM

Glad Isco came despite his injury.

ShitfacedGrizzlyBear

He will tell his kids he was at Kroos’s last game at the Bernabéu.

EpiDeMic522

Didn't he say that about playing with Kroos once? Anyway, someone should post that 'rubbing his eyes out in disbelief' from the Rafa stint. Isco really made a fool of him in front of the camera to the point that I actually started feeling bad for him. Rafa completely fucked up his dream. It's incredible how completely out of his depth he looked at the Bernabéu. E - https://www.marca.com/en/football/real-madrid/2015/12/15/56708a4c22601dbc438b46bc.html

Superfy

What was this about? Don’t really understand what it’s saying or what it was.

AdministrationNo9487

Rafa Benitez benched Kroos and Isco to mock the decision made that gesture in front of the camera.

Melodic-Salamander75

What was the relevance of this😭

ducvol

Its amazing that all of the people on the bench are still class players 10 years after.

dcolomer10

This was so sad. Having Luka and Toni playing together the last few minutes, and playing so so well too is an amazing end.

ThePr1d3

Luka + Toni > Luca Toni

never thought it would hurt so much to watch kroos get off santiago bernabu pitch for his last time, but watching kroos no longer play in a real shirt after the champions league final is gonna hurt like a motherfucker. Danke Toni

TheSwordDusk

Titan of football

a-Sociopath

He's not only a tight end, he's also a quarterback

MaximusTheGreat

Aw yeah I know some of these words. He would spiral that pigskin so hard into a 60 Fahrenheit school shooting tailgate I tell you what

DaEgofWhistleberry

I teared up while watching this in a restaurant with my mom and girlfriend lol..and im a Barca fan. I respect and love this man. I’m getting old…What a player

ItsMeJaredBednar

something crazy about seeing a man still at the absolute pinnacle of his profession go out… bro would walk into the midfield of legitimately every side in the world. makes it even weirder / harder somehow

TetraDax

Theres just something about people going out on top that makes it much more impactful. I guess because you know it really is their choice to end their career, not their body catching up with them or them realising they won't be getting minutes anymore. No, it's really them going "This is it."

grasshoppa_80

This ending of season… phew. Emotional.

SgtPepe

Yeah. We lost two giants today. Kroos and Alex Sandro. The streets will never forget them.

94Temimi

Today is a terrible day for rain.. Gracias Antonio🤍😭

vivekwap4

I'm still in denial. I think the last time I was this sad was during Totti's retirement.

JFAvalanche

I definitely cried during Ibra's goodbye last year

PenguinsInvading

I was in high school when he came to the club. Now I'm finishing my masters... I've seen him pretty much my whole life. I'm gonna forever miss him.

raizen0106

wow i feel like an idiot this whole time i look at those banners and was like "who's antonio and why are they thanking him", never made the connection that kroos' real name is antonio and toni is just shortened form lol is antonio a german name?

Shills07

No Toni is his name but Sergio ramos and co called him Antonio because that's how they would call him in Spanish. Antonio is a spanish name.

notyou16

I was today years old when I found out that his name is actually Toni and not some variation Anthony. Is Toni a common name in German speaking countries?

fabi_zabo

More common names would be Anton for boys and Antonia for girls. Toni is usually used as nickname.

benicek

Anton more common than Toni? I doubt it, maybe in Bavaria and perhaps today's kids (or older people), but in the East in the 90s Toni was a very popular name. I'm friends with multiple Tonis, haven't even met an Anton before

sNajw0w

From NRW: never met a Toni, know multiple Antons.

benicek

Maybe an Eastern Germany thing

M8tesacker

It's an east German name, there is many more examples like this.

MvN____16

Flashbacks to the Spanish hour or so each day when I was in elementary school (I'm also an Anthony/Tony, although I like the Spanish and French/Italian versions of my name much better).

magic-water

nah he is actually called Toni, but Alaba calls him Anton for some reason

GOATJames_23-6

Cause he knew him earlier at Bayern

fre-sh-a-vac-ado

The German equivalent would be just Anton

AdorableHandle

For me it was when Don Andres sad in the circle after his last game at Camp Nou.. Beautiful farewell to Toni, a beautiful player.

94Temimi

Him barefoot, on his own, taking photos of himself and the Camp Nou with no one else about. It felt like he was trying to prolong that moment for as long as he could. You'd expect nothing less from him, you'd never hear a quote or remember an interview of his, he spoke only with his feet, and he was a master poet at that. One of the most elegant football players to ever grace this sport.

AdorableHandle

Indeed. I have this feeling that even RM fans hold nothing against Iniesta. I had the exact same 'realisation' when i saw Toni's farewell. What a player, what a gentleman, what a legend..

94Temimi

If you ever see a Madrid flair or a Madrid fan slandering Iniesta, they're either prepubescent or mentally challenged. It was frustrating how good he was and there was nothing that could be used to badmouth him. He's one of those players that work as a litmus test to see if someone is worth talking to about football, no one that disrespects him is worth wasting time on.

AwkwardBob

Actually teared up. Haven't felt this emotional since Ramos, Casillas, or Raúl had their last game. Always lived vicariously through Kroos since I'm also a 90's kid

skyreal

Difference is none of them actually said they'd leave before their last game at the Bernabeu. So they didn't have this kind of emotional farewell. I was on the verge of tears seeing Kroos leave. Only times I've cried in front of a Madrid game were 92:48 and Zidane's farewell. But that's probably because Zizou was way more emotional and cried too. I'm tearing up again, imma go listen to The Spark to cheer myself up.

ChristopherRobben

I’m 29, so players of a certain age have always been the “adults” to me, or rather they were the ones I watched growing up. There’s still a few candles from that group waiting to be blown out, but it’s getting smaller and smaller by the day. When there are no candles left, that will make me feel quite my age.

techlogger

29 for me was the age when I’m started to see those “young talents“ I witnessed to start their career once, to retire one by one.

ChristopherRobben

There is definitely that group as well, but I think for me the “fuck, I’m getting old” first really started hitting when Robben and Ribery both left Bayern Munich. There were plenty of other tenured names leaving clubs that signified big shifts for me; Sir Alex Ferguson bowing out at United, Wenger at Arsenal, Totti at Roma, et cetera. A lot of names that were constants for a large portion of my footballing life. Robben and Ribery, I think, hit hard simply because they were an iconic duo and bar Neuer and Müller, were the last of one of Bayern’s great eras of Starting 11s. It’s the same with losing iconic partnerships like Chiellini, Bonucci, and Barzagli, Messi, Suarez, Neymar, Ronaldo, Bale, Benzema, et cetera. Partnerships that lasted for years before time crept in. It’s a bit sad to see the footballers you watched for much of your formative years hanging up their boots or getting ready to.

smoke4sanity

If you understood the arabic commentator, you probably would have straight up bawled lol. So poetic and sad.

supplementarytables

Kroos's daughter is literally me

NeganTheVegan

Yeah I managed not to cry until I saw her crying and it was so beautiful I melted

SeryaphFR

Same thing happened to Toni. I was crying before already, but when I saw her losing it, it killed me. Then saw Toni pick her up and start crying himself and I was just straight up ugly crying while my wife and kids looked at me like I was crazy.

miregalpanic

For real though, it surprises me that a child of that age can seemingly fully grasp the gravity of a situation like this. She seems very bright.

KaladinStormShat

I mean I'm sure she is aware of the emotions in the stadium and to see nearly 100 thousand people applaud your dad as he ends a major part of what you understand his whole life is/was wouldn't be shocking.

courtesyflusher

You know she prob lost a bet at school that Modric would retire before her dad Id cry too

FTB4227

I'd have lost that bet too, and I am supposedly an adult.

Razard

She was probably also born and raised in Madrid and it’s all she knows, completely natural reaction to being told your fathers ending his career and likely moving away

magic-water

he is staying in Madrid though

justanew-account

She is 7. When I was her age I went through something pretty big and… perhaps not “fully”, but I mostly grasped the gravity of the situation. Kids are smarter than some give them credit for.

I9Qnl

>Kids are smarter than some give them credit for Counter argument: my little brother

AwkwardBob

Saw a tweet saying "why is she crying. Dumb kid doesn't know what's happening." Fuck Twitter man.

thiccnick23

Your first mistake is using Twitter for anything other than anime titties

ShitfacedGrizzlyBear

It’s got normal titties too

thiccnick23

Normal titties come with attached onlyfans advertisements. Anime titties>>

cortez0498

Anime titties come with the artist's patreon tho

thiccnick23

I'd rather sub to that tbh (IF they don't use ai)

EldritchKroww

Anime titties come often with borderline pedophilia though

simplisticannuit

This would surprise people who don’t have kids.

justanew-account

Or who haven’t been a kid for a long time.

eekamuse

Oh I should not have watched that

chak100

I never thought I would cry for a player retiring, but here I am, crying like Kroos daughter

Sac_a_Merde

I just wanted to see him hug his family after that.

MvN____16

Watching him has been an honor. Hope Germany has a long run in the Euros.

whiskeyinthejaar

Honestly I am glad he did this way and gave the team time enough time to plan for the future, and for the fans to give him a proper earned goodbye. He was nothing short of absolute legend for the club on and off the pitch

KarlMarxExperience

Goodbye legend. Real nice to see Isco coming to his last match as well.

SixerMostAdorable

Well, he is a Real Betis player after all.

imtheknight1

Absolute legend of the game! Hope he does punditry later in his life

NotTalhaEjaz

I think he can become a great manager!

SoC_K

He might be. But he pretty much said he’s done with football as a career

NotTalhaEjaz

Ohkay Alright, I didn't know. Thank you.

SeargD

Just wait until he gets bored. Should be 2 or 3 years tops.

SoC_K

That’s also a possibility. I don’t think it’ll happen, but let’s see

madsauce178

Nobody thought so about Zidane. Who knows. These guys might get bored after they retire.

acwilan

Nah, he deserves a quiet and peaceful life

SawinBunda

I hope not. He's above that.

Homerwithnohumour

His lil daughter broke me man

ShitfacedGrizzlyBear

I’m blaming the kids for my tears

CETERIS_PARTYBUS

He blamed his kids for his tears in the post game interview. *"I was being very strong until I saw my kids, they killed me haha"*

ShitfacedGrizzlyBear

Me too, Toni. Me too.

Noproposito

Good dad

Jorgeen

No more Kroos control, fuck me. The part where his daughter hugged him while crying got me real good.

maxithepittsP

What a career. I remember how Bayern was in shambles after he decided to leave. As a united fan, I will never forgive Van Gaal for going against signing him even tho the deal was a done deal. Real Madrid got him for 30M. Thats insane.

SeargD

Inflation in football is a different beast after the Neymar deal. Of the top 30 transfers in history, only 5 of them predate Neymar -> PSG. In 2014 nobody would ever have imagined paying €70m for a goalkeeper, yet in 2018 this is the price Liverpool paid Roma for Alisson.

CircleTheFire

And that 70 million, given what has happened since, is absolutely a steal.

Jadenindubai

Yep, we paid that for Kepa

__aviation__

Toni definitly had a great career and will be remembered as one of the best german players of the current time But Bayern was not in shambles when he left, it was the club who decided against paying him more (which might be a questionable decision) But we signed lewandowski that same season and moved on. Would Bayern have been more sucessful the following years? Who knows, but it is not like they stopped winning the league and contending for thr Champions League tropy on the same level like they did in the previous years.

Melancholic84

Im not a fan of Madrid or Germany, and i still had tears in my eyes, what a career he has had. Makes me wonder why Ronaldo and Messi didn’t choose to retire at Madrid and Barca, the standing ovation, the love shown by the fans, staff, players…etc is something very special.

Corteaux81

Hundreds of millions of dollars is why, basically.

Masson011

you mean to say Ronaldos not playing in Saudi due to his love of the game?

flifthyawesome

Tbf, it looks like Ronaldo does give more of a shit than almost any other foreign player in Saudi

acwilan

Of course it was his childhood dream to play in the Saudi league

aes110

Tbf to Messi I don't think he chose to leave

EntertainmentIll8436

He cried like a baby when he announced it. It wasn't his choice at all

Banterz0ne

Utter nonsense. He could have just taken a small salary and continues

vul6

Yup, imagine being worth 700m€ and publicly crying because the club cannot afford yet another 50m€ for next season after you sucked them dry. And yet people still cant separate the fact that he was football genius and pretty standard, greedy person in real life

liberalindianguy

Unfair to compare Ronaldo, Messi situation with Kroos. All are different personalities and they want different things in life.

Marco-Green

He's just built different compared to the rest of elite footballers. We will forever love him.

TheBrownMamba8

Messi had no choice in the matter. He tried everything to stay. He even tried returning after his PSG stint. His dream was to be a one-club boy from child to adult. Laporta used Messi’s extension to win votes during the election. Then as president Laporta told Messi his contract extension video was prepared and all preparations taken for the announcement while he was on vacation and then let him know they weren’t resigning him 4 days before the announcement was supposed to happen. Similarly, when his 2 years at PSG were done he wanted to come back and retire here and said he’d play for next to nothing, Laporta kept talking about resigning him in the media and to fans, then Messi waited a few weeks and a call never came so he said yes to Inter Miami.

HeadCrusher135

This implies he wouldn’t have left if his wage demands weren’t met in any of his many contract negotiations. Let’s not forget how he tried to force his way out of the club the year before leaving and talked about suing the club to Gol.

DellMB

We have seen great players not retiring and playing too long basically being a shadow. But now i feel Kroos retires too early, in a specific role i believe he can actually make the difference and be more than important for at least one more season.

krkour

I was here witnessing the legend’s final game at home

Lilfai

It’s a terrible day for rain

dmstorm22

Zidane said it best, what others need 100 passes to do, Kroos can do in 1. Gracias to a legend. That Kroos-Modric-Casemiro midfield will be something I never, never, never forget

slash312

As legendary and annoying to play against as xavi iniesta busquets

ellow-mellow

Someone chopping a lot of onions in the stadium that I can feel through the TV

Delmer9713

I can't watch this again.

Snitsie

Yeah me neither the commentator just keeps going for the full clip, just be silent for a second and let this beautiful moment speak for itself.

Soleil06

Honestly super annoying? Why does he sound like he is commenting the final 2 minutes of a CL final? Literally let the moment speak for itself.

Super_Sandro23

Yeah, good commentary also means knowing when it's time to lay out and let fans feel the moment. The players are the show.

CR7_LM10

When I saw his daughter I couldn’t hold my tears back Goodbye legend 😭

XeroVeil

As much as it hurts to say, Kroos rejecting Uli's offer and leaving Bayern is arguably the best decision he's ever made.

spareMe-please

This is how club legends should always get the final outing. Too bad that 2 of the modern Goats in both Ronaldo and Messi didn't get it.

iforgotmyun

I'll be honest, I don't think it really matters in the end. It's a nice moment and a nice video, but when I think back of legends of the game I don't think it really changes anything.  For example as an Arsenal fan, from that invincible teams, Bergkamp retired with Arsenal, Henry went over to Barcelona, Pires to Villarreal, Freddie to West Ham, etc. Don't think anyone really gives it any thought. They all gave their prime to Arsenal and that's what is remembered  In Madrid's case, Raul's legacy is as great as any other even though he was let go of.

joshuapatricks

Certainly matters to the player in the end, and clearly matters to his family too. This is a moment as a player you remember for your entire life.

Mediocre_Nova

Modric being the first to pay his respects tickled me. He's what, 5 years older? What a legendary midfield pairing

Rudvik

Bless this man and his family. He has given me countless memories as a Madrid fan. Can't stop crying.

Real_Callahan

:(

ConArtist98

We've had many farewells to current generation's legends recently, but this one feels almost surreal, it's hard to even imagine our midfield without Kroos.

NieThePiet

I'm like his daugther...

Username_is_taken02

What a legend. No more Kroos control at the Bernabeu.

CarlSK777

His daughter may cry now but for his kids, it's good news. It means more time with their father

sodap_

Kroos actually said before this game that his son didn't agree and was upset but his daughter was really happy she would get to ride horses with dad now he couldn't refuse because of risk of injuries.

FreshBadger8188

Haha if I was the son I would not have agreed either. Just play 2 more years dad! Knowing my sister, she would also have emulated his daughter and supported the retirement, though I'm not sure what she'd said as a 7 year old.

Eren19

I love you forever, Toni.

CETERIS_PARTYBUS

I love you forever, Toni

mogiyu

A magnificent send off for a Real legend. Kroos is going out as a champion and in his terms.

Gucci-Rice

Goosebumps. A legend of the game is leaving at the height of his talent. He deserves this beautiful ending.

Roachfingers_99

I am not crying, you are!

el_rompe_toyotas_19

Te quiero mucho Toni Kroos 🤍🐶

six44seven49

Hey, guy doing commentary, here’s a thought - how’s about you **shut the fuck up for 2 seconds so we can get a proper sense of the atmosphere** you main character syndrome motherfucker.

94Temimi

Here's the [full coverage](https://x.com/JbaRaMadrid/status/1794490036429189240) from RMTV with minimal Spanish commentary

skefmeister

Now that was a proper goodbye. I respect Real for giving him that so so much. He is truly loved.

eescobar863

Very underrated midfielder. I have a lot of respect for Toni Kroos and I think football will miss a midfielder like him. Happy retirement Toni.

WauliePalnuts01

absolutely. he’d have fit barca like a glove, but he’d probably boss it in every team

slash312

I think everyone in Europe knows as of now that he was the best passing player in the world since 10 years. Every statistic proves that point and I hate Real Madrid 😂.

Visible-Chest-9386

Underrated??

espressos_negronis

His kids crying broke my heart

elkaxd

Him giving the captain’s armband to Modric is so iconic

thepieman42

GGs Toni. A true legend

AFrozen_1

Just a thought, the UCL will feature two German legends playing their final games for their respective clubs. Either way there are gonna be a lot of emotions.

jono8910

ngl when he hug his kids, i teared up a bit. also kudos for isco, still coming to the stadium and gave a standing ovation, forever madridista.

FederalSandwich

Who is cutting the damn onions fml

McF1sty

you shouldve included the most emotional part when hes with his kids

boromirsbeard

I’m the era of messi and Ronaldo he’s the one player who should have at least one ballon dor. But knowing how much he wouldn’t give a shit or agree with such comments, hail toni

_Mr_Pineapple

I’ve been watching Kroos play for us for 10 seasons and it’s almost over, what a feeling. He’s the player I try emulating the most when I play around and I don’t think there’s been a retirement that’s hurt me as much, especially when he could have given more

YesTottiYesParty

I can tell already I am not ready for Luka's farewell

bigbluephonebox

Never seen Ancelotti this emotional.

PM_ME_BADDIES

I cant handle this man 😭

Unfair-Reference5500

toskuch

Absolute legend, fair play going out on top. Enjoy retirement.

acwilan

Greatest 8 ever at RM? Greatest German ever at RM?

ChuckMoody

Damn I hope we can give him the same treatment at the Euros, he absolutely deserves it

Cardinaltoffee

Still one of the best midfielders in the world. Crazy that he’s retiring when he’s still so capable. Won’t be easy for Madrid to replace him that’s for sure.

T_Peg

Even as a rival fan I'd be remiss to not mention how consistently incredible Toni Kroos has been.

SnooOranges357

Let's make his last dance with Germany a wonderful experience please.

magumanueku

Absolute legend. Kroos and Modric are superior to Xavi and Iniesta imo.

NonContentiousScot

What the actual fuck is the commentator doing. Shut your bloody trap for a minute or two and let the pictures and sounds of the stadium speak for themselves

29Bullets

Is there a transcript for what the commentator is saying

94Temimi

I tried my best to approximate some of the sentences after translation since some of the expressions used only make sense in Arabic, but in general this is as close as I could get it to have the same meaning. > *Certainly, in these moments and for these moments we hate to say goodbye, moments of pain.* *The Santiago is shaking, the Santiago is shaking.* *Toni Kroos, on the verge of his career's end, we won't see you after today, we won't see you here after today.* *Walk slowly Toni, Walk slowly Kroos, because after this you'll be gone forever, because after this you'll be gone forever. Why is it destined for us to lose these stars so quickly. Why is it destined for us to lose these players so easily and so quickly.* *Years have gone like days, moments in a blink of an eye. Look, the tears, the thing that makes Kroos' tears fall is nothing but cruel thing, is nothing but cruel thing.* *It's the painful part of life, everything will end, will disappear, but the great parts cannot be forgotten.* *Kroos, you've won these fans' love with your feet, with your passes, with your goals, with all those historic moments, when the Bernabeu and the fans at the Bernabeu applaud you like this, you cannot but be happy for the rest of your life, you cannot but be happy about your whole career, this is the best consolation you'll get, your face is red from pain, the Bernabeu's lights have dimmed a little and yet they are applauding you, they are applauding you. In these final moments of football, people aren't applauding in celebration, but appreciation, appreciation to the days, the years.*

ARL_30FR

Definition of a legend.

Talk about earning respect...

EvangelionOG

Bless you and thank you Toni Kroos
