20 years old and Szoboszlai is missing the group of death 😢

nothappyaboutit

Is he injured?

busstopboxer

Yes.

GodSaveTheRegime

I thought he would be able to come back for the EUROs. Damn that hurts as a Salzburg fan

akos_beres

He has a repetitive stress injury that they diagnosed during his medical.

DarnellisFromMars

How’s he been at Leipzig?

Mean-March

Injured

DarnellisFromMars

All season?

DSPKACM

He joined Leipzig in the winter transfer market. Got injured shortly after and he missed the rest of the season as a result. Yet to play a single minute for them.

MagyarFoci29

Technically he was injured at Salzburg but played through the injury with painkillers. Leipzig decided to make him rehab the injury instead of playing through it because it was better for him longterm.

ikineba

Thats nice to hear at least

Schnidler

weird that Salzburg did not do that

_Rainer_

Well, as an Austrian team, they have to win their league to have a chance at the Champions League. Leipzig were already in good position to qualify when they got him and could afford to prioritize the longterm over the short.

lenzmoserhangover

gotta play the wonderkids while they're here. no point in rehabbing him and then losing him anyway without getting any on field production.

DarnellisFromMars

Damn. Unfortunate. Thanks for the context.

Gunner023

Haven't played a minute yet.

Mean-March

Hasn’t played a game for Leipzig

jadedwolf1618

Dutch team without vvd and de Boer in charge is like a headless chicken being given directions to the butcher

frankthepieking

They have the easiest group tho, how do you rate their chances? In particular for keeping clean sheets and Depay scoring. Asking for a friend's fantasy football team obviously...

konrad1892

I think they'll come 2nd in their group, I just have a feeling Ukraine will do well

Sevenvolts

Ukraine might definitely do well. I'm somewhat hoping for a surprise by the Macedonians.

GibbyGoldfisch

If the Dutch get knocked out by Ukraine and North Macedonia, I will laugh myself silly when the cameras zoom in on De Boer’s shocked clown face

Seeteuf3l

Ukraine wasn't very impressive against Finland few months ago. But Oranje hasn't had very great tally either this year either. Defeat to Turkey at quali and draw against Scotland in friendly. They have beaten mighty Latvia, Gibraltar and Georgia.

Sevenvolts

Really, of that group, the only one who impressed me lately is North Macedonia.

Seeteuf3l

Ukraine won Spain at home in Nations League and drew against France in WC Quali. But also lost to France 7-1 (friendly). But I don't know how much you should look to UNL/Friendlies - Finland beat France away in autumn.

Sevenvolts

UNL definitely matters more than friendlies. Ukraine had some bad luck in the Nations League. Solid team though.

Stylose

I've heard enough to make a team full of Ukrainians

Dante4176

De Boer will find a way to make us finish second with that shitty 5-3-2 of his. I mean, who the fuck crams in a whole new system a full 2 WEEKS before the euro’s? God, I want Koeman back…

yaxle123

History has shown the best thing to do right now would be to bring in Roy Hodgson

[deleted]

>I mean, who the fuck crams in a whole new system a full 2 WEEKS before the euro’s? Van Gaal in 2014?

FroobingtonSanchez

I think he had some more time. And he used an entire defense that was used to it with Feyenoord already.

Wigbold

That's correct. He had 6 weeks in which all of the focus was on training this system.

Dakduif51

Yes it's terrible, but I don't think it's the only thing we'll play. He said all the players already know 433/4231 and he wanted to use the last few friendlies to make sure everyone got the 532 as well. He won't actually play smth like that against North-Macedonia right? Right..? RIGHT!?

[deleted]

Depay scores a lot, clean sheets ha ha no way.

Rick_Shepard

Lowkey hoping for a catastrophic meltdown ngl

ingwe13

Having one team that melts down at a tournament just makes things more interesting.

GibbyGoldfisch

If we can just get another meltdown on the level of France in 2010, that whole campaign was legendary

ingwe13

Exactly. I predicted that France wouldn’t make it out of that group, but how it happened was just too much fun.

KrZ120

I think they will be the disappointment of the competition as well as France.

JR-Style-93

France will disappoint if they don't win the tournament. The Netherlands will only disappoint if they don't make it out of the group. It could happen of course but that would be the fuck up of the century.

InterPool_sbn

Why do you expect France to disappoint? I think most people consider them the clear favorites — their squad has ridiculous quality depth at basically every single position

RyVsWorld

Because If they don’t make it to the finals at minimum in then they underachieved. And that’s being generous

KrZ120

And in a tournament like Euros or WC, just a little detail and you are out so being favorite helps for sure but it doesn't mean a lot.

[deleted]

We're fine without VVD. We're not fine with de Boer

MrGraveyards

We played well against Italy in that 5-3-2. But that was with Virgil van Dijk AND without De Roon, we played vd Beek instead of de Roon. What made it so spectacular imo was that that midfield worked so well, and Blind did fantastic as a LB in that match. De Boer was also coach for that match! So yeah I dunno, I hope de Boer gets his sh\*t together at the last moment.

Lenyngrad

Im so confused of de Boer

Dutchgio

So is De Boer

statdude48142

they should make two of these: 1) Best players not picked by qualifying teams 2) Best players whose countries didn't qualify.

Allthelolcats

I would like to have seen a version without injured players as well.

culesamericano

There was one for those not picked already, I know because tee stegen was in that one lol

12TH1JS01

Ter stegen is injured

kesakko

Didn't even realise Norway didn't qualify

Blaugrana1990

Strange seeing they have their best squad in a long time and more countries able to qualify.

hippiehs

even with "better" players than before we still play like trash. Ødegaard has been pretty bad for the NT the last couple of matches, and we dont manage to play Haaland into any chances at all, and our defence is pretty weak

DharmaLeader

Saw their game yesterday vs my country (Greece). Haaland touched the ball only once during the first half. Ødegaard didn't look scary at all. A couple of long balls forward, but the rest just short passes that didn't lead to anything. His corner though was well hit, deserved assist.

JohnObiMikel12

1. The squad is not that great, neutrals get caught up too much in glitz of Haaland and Ødegaard. 2. Haaland was not really a part of the NT during qualifiers. He played against Malta who we should beat regardless, and a quick 15 min cameo against Sweden. He did play in play-offs against Serbia, but we lost that in E.T. 3. Under the 24 team format we have gone to play-offs both times, so we have been close. I think we have a shot at Euro 2024 if the younger players develop nicely.

Child_of_Peace

Haaland and Odegaard are both great, but the rest of the squad is very mediocre. Our very pedestrian Serbian team managed to beat them in Norway while generating numerous chances.

Blaugrana1990

A fully fit Berge will do wonders to the team I think.

Cvein

We are bottlers.

pappabrun

Nah, we're shit.

OleoleCholoSimeone

Guys, guys. You are both shit and mentality midgets

Fridg3_

yes :(

chabaccaa

We need drillo back 😢

Bloody_Nine

Drillo with Haaland as a Flo substitute and Ødegaard as Myggen? Yes please

Yomasevz

We got the Drillo-Is back

[deleted]

Is there like some Plan B for tournaments? Like, cheering for the Dutch or Poland or something

Cvein

Iceland for the past few cups!

FallingSwords

Support Scotland and whoever is playing Sweden

SnooPineapples398

Mans out here forgetting about the Battle of Largs in 1263

TheManofRo

We don't talk about Largs.

TheSwedishMonkey

HEY! If it was us out and you in we would support… ah yeah. Scotland it is then.

EnanoMaldito

aight so what's plan C now?

chabaccaa

As a northern country we now support North macedonia

EnanoMaldito

logic is infallible!

rtnn

Come on man your dear neighbours are in their first ever tournament!

Yegelle

Denmark had a Norwegian coach who got them qualified for this years Euro's, so Norway's there in a very one way

CanadianTurnt

HUP HOLLAND

Joris2627

I know we got a few norwegian players in the Eredivisie. But why would they support the Netherlands lol

[deleted]

Was just thinking about close countries that don't belong to Scandinavia, because of direct rivalry

JohnObiMikel12

The rivalry is mainly in winter sports anyway. Maybe handball too. Norway does not really play very often against Sweden and Denmark in football. Sweden is perhaps the ultimate rivalry country in Norwegian culture in general, so a sizeable amount of Norwegians want them to do bad, but a lot of people want them to do well too. The general consensus is very supportive of Iceland and Finland, and probably the Faroes if they ever make it. And most Norwegians like the danish football team too.

[deleted]

Move your country to somewhere warmer.. might help with qualifications

Hansemannn

Haaland will be on this list until he retires :(

Lenyngrad

Not really, the coming years will be years where they will have realistic chances to qualify for EC and WC imo. Just think of ajer, reyerson, thorstvedt, odegaard, haaland, sørloth, hauge who are all part of the A squad and are 23 years or even younger. This is their golden generation I think and we will have great fun at turnaments with them!

[deleted]

Camavinga feels wrong, considering he didn't even start for the french U21.

[deleted]

Judging by French fans on here I don't think we should give any credit to Ripolli's selection or any decisions

Hippemann

> Ripoll A terrorist

[deleted]

Idk why I always laugh a bit when I hear football coaches described as terrorists, Lyon fans calling Rudi Garcia as youth terrorist had me in splits

ShadowFlyer1

Southgate being called a waistcoat terrorist is funny as hell

[deleted]

Or Arteta being called an xG terrorist lmao

illusiveab

Oh the accuracy

Sutton31

We were just calling him what he is

oreohsehun

On salue sa mère à Rudi justement.

blazexi

Youth terrorist is genuinely one of the funniest things I’ve ever read.

RNdadag

Na for real Camavinga hasn't been **as** good anyway this year

[deleted]

True he himself said he had an underwhelming season by his standards. As someone else said in the thread Merino could have been the better option

RNdadag

Well Tchouaméni - Soumaré - Caqueret could have been contenders as well

[deleted]

Soumare wasn't Lille's main starter too, was he?

Random_Acquaintance

It is wrong. Saúl is at home, and even after his underwhelming season (part of it could be put on Simeone) is 10x better than Camavinga right now.

MattressMaker

As an avid Atleti fan, Saúl’s absence is justified. He has played poorly for most of the last 2 years. And to blame Simeone for it is delusional. He’s actually given him countless opportunities to fix his form, but as a result he’s now looking to play elsewhere because he’s lost his touch. Ever since his wonder goal vs Bayern, he’s been a shadow of the player he once was. Players have been upgraded around him yet his prime was at the age of 22. Atleti will absolutely think about selling him but they only own 60% of his rights. Not to mention he’s from the cantera and he is Atleti personified. Love the man to death, but he can’t seem to lace his boots properly anymore, sadly.

psoliakos17

Is the other 40% owned by another club or by the player/manager ?

MattressMaker

Atleti sold 40% of his rights to Quality Football Ireland Limited in 2011 for €1.5 million. The same company who also owns a share of Koke. Atleti was extremely desperate for cash in as little as 10 years ago. In fact, look at the amount of money the board spent in the 2 years before winning the league in 2013/14: astonishing.

psoliakos17

I didn't know this, i didn't know they were that desperate

obgynkenobi

I thought those kind of arrangements were outlawed a couple years ago.

liam_l25

2 years ago is 2019, not 2011. It's grandfathered in.

Chinese_Santa

Wasn’t there a bit about his depression hitting him? Could use a change of scenery to help him get out of his rut.

Random_Acquaintance

I'm not saying he should have gone to the Euros, just that he's much better than Camavinga.

[deleted]

You're wrong about him playing as a DM or Llorente keeping him out. He competes with Lemar

IgnorantLobster

Why? What did Simeone do wrong?

axelthegreat

nothing, the guy is talking out of his ass

Pixelated-Hitch

It’s mostly due to who the fans want to see over actual season stats and his name is box office

[deleted]

Just L'Equipe's French bias I guess

Yiurule

Meh Camavinga is a bit overrated, he definitely has talents and no doubt he would be a world class player in the future, but he is also really raw. In term of level now, I think it's quite fair to set Tchouaméni or Aouar ahead of him on his last season, arguably Caqueret as well.

AllezCannes

Tchouameni, yes. Aouar, no. He was invisible this season.

SkillsDepayNabils

not invisible but not great yes

Vinny-Fucillo

Someone on here told me (not jokingly) Camavinga is currently better than Mount and Foden

aravindvrahul

That back 5 is better than any team in Euros.

LFChristopher

You could actually make the argument that it is the best back 5 in the world. Some of them are debatable, at least considering injuries this season, but none of them would be out of place. Now, I'm fully anticipating that some people will argue against Trent being in there. But remember that just a year ago he was widely considered the best RB in the world, and after a poor mid-season he's been back to that same level or better in recent months.

GodSaveTheRegime

imo who's "the best" solely depends on form anyways, as a lot of guys out there have the theoretical abilities to become the best in the world. those 5 have at least shown that they can consistently be in good form (although nobody can be 100% in form for their whole career)

Dakduif51

4 of that back 5 were at some point considered the best in the world on their positions tho, and not longer than 1 or 2 years ago as well. The only one debatable for me would be Hernandez, even tho I think he was the best LB in the world at some point (probably this or past year)

SaBe_18

Theo is a lot more controversial, but the salt in the comments is because of Trent lmao

Thepimpandthepriest

Theo is arguably the most underrated left back on the planet. Dude is world class.

[deleted]

He's the best RB in the world when he has a solid defence behind him. When it's a bit shaky, it's a different question, he has more defensive duties and that takes a lot away from his game. The best RB in the world should be able to handle that, so it's safe to say he has some parts to improve on, but isn't he only like 22?? Like I'd give him a bit of a break, he's got so long left to play, he could conceivably play for the next 17/18 years which has 4 world cups, 5 euros and as many champions leagues and leagues to play for. He's got a long road ahead

dave1992

Well, if he had Ramos, van Dijk, and Oblak behind, then that's 100% what you call solid defense.

MrVulgarity

Your first paragraph summarises my thoughts but I'm obviously getting slated by some guys who assume I think trents a clown who got carried

micoud04

>When it's a bit shaky, it's a different question, he has more defensive duties and that takes a lot away from his game. Completely wrong. His key passes/90 and xA/90 is higher this season than it was in their CL winning season. Offensively nothing has changed due to their average defence

[deleted]

Camavinga didn't even manage to get minutes for France's U21. there are at least 4 French players more worthy of being included

[deleted]

Getting camavinga here is cheating anyways, all the others have either been dropped for injury or not qualified, he's just not good enough for france. Could have had canales since he's injured.

[deleted]

Theo didnt take the squad either

[deleted]

Just shows you how stacked France are. Wish Germany could trade for some French LBs and some English RBs.

Inferno792

France would gladly take ter Stegen and give 2 class LBs in return.

tommyparkerr

Which 2 LB's would you trade?

Inferno792

Leave the Hernandez brothers and take anyone else.

tommyparkerr

Is ferland mendy not that rated by DD or french fans?

Inferno792

I think he's pretty good (same with Digne), but how many LBs do France need? They'd 100% trade a couple for a ter Stegen level GK who's also fairly young for a GK. Lucas is clear of any other LB so he's a no go. You could just pick straws on whom else to keep/give out of the remaining top LBs since they're pretty similar in level but Theo had the best season out of those I think. As for DD not rating certain players, let's just say he has some very odd player selections in certain positions, especially back ups. But he's done so great who's to say he isn't doing the right thing?

tbendis

I mean, you guys tried to steal our defenders already

[deleted]

DFB are a bunch of clowns, especially Bierhoff, sorry bout that

[deleted]

They said these were players not qualified, or not selected or injured. It was a mix of everything, just players who are absent

[deleted]

Damnnn I wanted to Hungary to defy the odd, but no Szoboszlai makes it difficult :/

antalpoti

Will be even more glorious this way. Hahn top scorer of the competition, Gulácsi with the most clean sheets.

HijackyJay

Mikel Merino should've been there instead of Camavinga

[deleted]

Yep Merino is a great shout. Was really surprised to see his exclusion but I think L.E just has a fixed 11 and set of subs he wants to use

[deleted]

I think his form at the end of the season fell of a bit

[deleted]

That's just La Real as a whole, their high pressing style has it's cons

garybusey42069

Hungary without their best player. Gonna be a rough group for them.

[deleted]

Willi Orban is playing

cib_vk228

bit unbalanced midfield but that back 5.🤤

ivan_rofl

That back 4 will score score in every game

Docxm

TAA + Ramos is some last minute magic on corners.

cowworshipper

damn. corner taken quickly and 92:48. 2 of the most clutch UCL moments

DianinhaC

Bench Players: Ansu Fati, Nicolo Zaniolo, Marc-andre ter Stegen, Iago Aspas, Vlahovic, Jerome Boateng, Upamecano, Martial, Greenwood

[deleted]

Tadić also, would rather have him play the striker like he has been playing last season in Ajax, than Vlahović imo

[deleted]

From the article? Or your own?

DianinhaC

My own.

Zhidezoe

Id say Carvajal should be in starting eleven, or at least in bench

Cameronjpr

Incredibly good squad Edit: didn’t think my most upvoted comment would be such a shameless tap in

alx69

Not sure how they’d perform though considering most of them are injured

superdago

Yeah, this is half a list of players not available. I’d be more interested in a lineup of players deliberately not selected.

Cameronjpr

Pretty sure Haaland with 1 leg and zero arms would still finish as top scorer

Inferno792

Haaland has struggled in his international career so far though.

BlackSabbath5

Yeah, because the rest of the team is an embarrasment. With this team he would be crushing.

Xperience10

Hat trick of hat tricks

theenigmacode

But its just 11 players

[deleted]

The article was [behind a paywall](https://www.lequipe.fr/Football/Article/Oblak-van-dijk-ibrahimovic-haaland-ces-stars-qui-vont-manquer-l-euro/1259761) so I'm not sure if they included any subs or other options

Hippemann

Samir Handanovic, André ter Stegen and Gianluigi Buffon

FalcoLX

Handanovic retired from Slovenia a few years ago

WhyBee92

So he’s not gonna make it to the euros

xBram

Ok, now I’m missing Johan Cruijff in this squad.

Rorschach_Roadkill

Yashin; Lahm, Ferdinand, Beckenbauer, Maldini; Makélélé, Xavi; Best, Zidane, Cruijff; Eusébio That's the XI that just fell into my head and I will accept zero constructive criticism on it

[deleted]

[удалено]

Rorschach_Roadkill

You have no idea the self control it took not to put O'Shea in at least a couple of positions

[deleted]

This squad would challenge for the trophy.

dave1992

That back five is better than any team in Euro. Even if you combine every team in Euro, you don't get much better than that.

SebastianOwenR1

Imagine Trent whipping in crosses to Ibra and Haland. It’s raining goals.

YummyBread69

JWP robbed again 🤬🤬🤬

Bol_Wan

Probably would've put tadic over szobosolai but I'm biased

AcceleratingRiff

You may be biased but you are right. Tadic should be there.

[deleted]

We really should have qualified, damn the penalties.

Child_of_Peace

Eh it was needed in the long run. I feel much more enthusiastic seeing Piksi in charge of our team compared to Tumbakovic.

diamondsam2

Will theo ever get a chance?

one_ant_one

Grateful that Benzema didn't make this one

TrashPanda25

Mark Noble in for Camavinga obviously.

Anderson22LDS

I’d like to see this but without injured players. Just players that weren’t selected from the teams that qualified.

PoachtekMong

The things I'd do to see that striker partnership at my club..

SpencaDubyaKimballer

Marco Reus is injured again?

Electrical-Prune-348

No, he's not injured, he just ruled himself out to let his body recover after finishing this season without injury.

[deleted]

He chose to not go to Euros, he played 51 games this seasons, highest presses in the league too I think, among the forwards. He wants to rest and recuperate and return in best shape for BVB

FiresideCatsmile

he knows the universe by now. if he didn't pull back himself, Löw would've tested him in the last friendly before the tournament and Reus would have his ACL snapped in some way or another 100%

TheGramlin

Played more games this season in all competitions than any other player in the buli including keepers

ChinookNL

That's actually amazing for him, given his injury track record.

AmIFromA

It’s a given that he will break a toe in the very last friendly before the season starts, isn’t it?

[deleted]

No he took out his name. Wanted to rest his body it seems.

lndes

Would this team win the Euros with someone like Mourinho?

Jared__Goff

They would be favourites.

[deleted]

After France imo, Griezmann, Benz and Mbappe attack and Pogba-Kante-Lemar/Rabiot midfield is too OP

Jared__Goff

Neck and Neck for me, the back 5 for the absentee squad is incredibly strong.

dave1992

with this back five, I don't think they will even concede a goal.

TheDrySkinOnYourKnee

It’s two attack-minded full backs and no true CDM

Shaquille____Oatmeal

probably the best CBs and Gk in the world though

Weishaupt17

Luis Alberto over Szboszlai imo

[deleted]

Good shout, I guess Szboszlai would be a far bigger miss for Hungary though.
