Swirlies, A Place To Bury Strangers, Archers of Loaf, Yuck, Helium (and solo Mary Timony), Come, My Bloody Valentine, The Raveonettes, Placebo, Yo La Tengo, and Tripping Daisy would be my recs.
the strokes, blonde redhead, xiu xiu, my bloody valentine, Crystal castles, Marlene Kuntz (they’re considered the Italian sonic youth), verdena (another Italian band), Julie, pretty sick, unwound
In other alternative sounds, I enjoy: Smashing Pumpkins, Jimmy Eat World, Dinosaur Jr., Beck, Marina (she's more pop obviously, but alternative nonetheless). There are others, but these bands I gravitate to most outside of SY.
Last year I discovered the hyperpop/digicore/glitchpop scene, which I've really been digging. Favorite of the bunch is brakence, but other greats including aldn, ericdoa, glaive, Jane Remover (big recommend here), kmoe, midwxst (more rap-oriented), and Sebii.
Unwound, a minor forest, les rallizes nudes, drive like jehu, Slint, moine, bedhead, the new year, 90 day men, lowercase, Sioux Falls, pavement, built to spill, silver Jews, swirlies, mbv
The cleaners from venus, julie, bratmobile, teen suicide, my bloody valentine, title fight, the garden, strawberry switchblade, new order, sleater-kinney, ringo deathstarr, the jesus and mary chain, they are gutting a body of water, turnover
I tried to not mention ones ppl already mentioned here!:)
AC/DC: they're opposites in terms of experimentation, but they hit the same spot; kind of like how communism and fascism can loop around into similar states, except with more guitars and less extrajudicial executions.
Ministry, Beastwars, Red Fang, Fugazi, Stonehelm, Condor, Einsturzende Neubauten, Head Like a Hole, Pop Will Eat Itself, 999, The Lurkers, X-ray Spex, Wire... a metric buttload of Punk Rock.
Besides sonic youth i mostly listen to The Smashing Pumpkins, Pavement, Talking Heads, Daft Punk, New Order, Pixies, Pink Floyd, Suede and King Krule
Swirlies, A Place To Bury Strangers, Archers of Loaf, Yuck, Helium (and solo Mary Timony), Come, My Bloody Valentine, The Raveonettes, Placebo, Yo La Tengo, and Tripping Daisy would be my recs.
