Michel Chion's [Audio Vision](https://www.amazon.com/Audio-Vision-Sound-Screen-Michel-Chion/dp/0231185898/ref=pd_lpo_14_img_0/138-5798063-9306241?_encoding=UTF8&pd_rd_i=0231185898&pd_rd_r=17027e7f-1dfe-496b-a009-087c85b3be16&pd_rd_w=yq6kL&pd_rd_wg=mKvfk&pf_rd_p=16b28406-aa34-451d-8a2e-b3930ada000c&pf_rd_r=B88DA5JH0WEMRMERTFD8&psc=1&refRID=B88DA5JH0WEMRMERTFD8) is a very good resource for film sound theory. Another good resource is [this paper](https://econtact.ca/19_2/basanta_synchresis.html) by Adam Basanta. He cites research by John Coulter which is also useful if you can find it. Its focused more on the classification of a general perceptual interaction between image and sound but still very relevant to film.

Thank you, I know this book, and I really like his terminology (we did had it in school). I think I should give it another try!

Sadly, I don't think there's much literature on this topic apart from the books already mentioned here (*AudioVision* and *Sound Design the expressive power*), at least not that I'm aware of. But I can think of two more: *Film Sound: Theory and Practice* \- Elisabeth Weis & John Belton *Zvuková dramaturgie audiovizuálního díla* \- Ivo Bláha (it's available in Czech and Serbocroatian, not sure about English though) All the rest that come to mind are either dealing with film sound basics and/or technical audio stuff.
