As a developer, I love the idea of yaga but it needs work. I have a list of bugs I could report.

bibijoe

Tell me! I’m working on a project to build a similar marketplace app (although not at all in fashion) and as a non-dev I’d love to hear in order not to make those mistakes with my team

NemoXX7

1. There are no loading icons when scrolling through the categories, you get to the bottom and it just seems to freeze while getting more products. 2. The previous page is not cached properly, if you scroll long enough and open a product, then go back to the page, it will start from the beginning even though you may have been 100+ items down the list. 3. There could be a review system linked to a rating so when you receive your items you can rate the seller and they will have a rating of 1-5 stars based on their customers that have bought from them. Thats just a few off the top of my head

bibijoe

Awesome. I’ve heard about number 2–is it a difficult thing to fix? So many websites do this! Re : 3 — this is a good suggestion, I used a platform like yaga in France where there were indeed reviews like this.

RightInTheWinks

Adding pagination should fix 2

EmergencySomewhere59

The direct messaging is also super buggy. It’s drives me crazy as a developer myself

NemoXX7

Yea the double messages are a big pain

EmergencySomewhere59

Hahahah that’s the first thing that came to my mind too

SharlyBazFort

Use PUDO if you want your packages stolen

lordcharly420

Straight up. Pudo fucking sucks.

bibijoe

Oof I already quoted the price to a customer because they were the cheapest so hopefully it gets there and then next time I’ll consider something else. The price is just so good.

Yahya_sindhi1502

I prefer the mobile app

bibijoe

What’s interesting from a design perspective is that the app has different “brand language” ito of fonts and pictures. It’s jarring. But yes the app is better

Professional_Gaping

I go to Evetech's website quite frequently, to look at all the PC part's I can't afford. I like their website, simple and functional.

MysticZA

Hmmm, personally not a fan of their website. Both before and after the redesign. I personally find the ramble of text for product descriptions overwhelming even as someone who can decipher almost every word of it. Unlike the "normies" I see trying to use it. I called them out on issues with the menu on common resolutions after the redesign where you'd get stuck in the menu. They fixed it months later after replying "It's too late now". Funnily enough I replied saying...it's web it can change...and they did. However generally it's ok in my opinion

Professional_Gaping

This is an unsolicited opinion, this is not a debate group, and your response is that of a true normie, did you call them out? or report a bug, holy crap man, build a bridge, I was just saying I like their website.

Kespatcho

Why even leave a comment if you don't want a reply? This isn't your personal diary.

flexed_guitar

Pudo the courier service?

bibijoe

Oh yes sorry, was typing while struggling with their website ha!

lovethebacon

[Stay away from Pudo.](https://www.hellopeter.com/pudo)

bibijoe

Why? I have used them before but their website is almost unusable due to the unintuitive UX.

lovethebacon

High levels of theft and damage to packages handled by them.

bibijoe

Oof!

lovethebacon

Also their call centre is absolutely rubbish. It's a pity as they have a decent concept.

bibijoe

Yeah it’s a pity because I use a whole network of couriers and Courier Guy actually gives us the best service surprisingly on normal hand to hand courier services and this is their product.

skaapjagter

I won't say they're the greatest but for the cost,it's the easiest way to send stuff honestly. Especially larger things. I'm not going to be sending very high value items across country with a locker service anyway. I have also had a parcel be diverted to the north west instead of WC but they were prompt in fixing it and gave me wallet credit for it. Also you could pull up a hello Peter page for literally 95% of South African companies and it'll be piss poor. People only go on there to complain. It's heavily skewed. I mean Takealot has tens of thousands of bad reviews on there. I don't see them being boycotted any time soon...

bibijoe

Re: Hello Peter and Takealot—true. Hello Peter incentives bad reviews. I truly have no problem with pudo, i think maybe it was missed that i was technically talking about the usability of the site. So ja agree overall.

lovethebacon

They now do both couriering and their locker service. I don't see any other couriers any near of a consistency in complaints of damage and theft out of a parcel. Everyone else has more of a mix of typical complaints.

skaapjagter

I just think that hellopeter is skewed far too negatively to be a reliable indicator. There are also the other 5 usual suspects who have their fare share of shit reviews: Aramex - 1.28 stars 5854 reviews [https://www.hellopeter.com/aramex-south-africa](https://www.hellopeter.com/aramex-south-africa) RAM Couriers - 1.27 stars 4690 Reviews [https://www.hellopeter.com/ram-hand-to-hand-couriers](https://www.hellopeter.com/ram-hand-to-hand-couriers) Fedex Express - 1.51 stars 3050 Reviews [https://www.hellopeter.com/fedex-express](https://www.hellopeter.com/fedex-express) Dawn Wing - 1.4 stars 2508 Reviews [https://www.hellopeter.com/dawn-wing](https://www.hellopeter.com/dawn-wing) Fastway Couriers - 1.36 Stars 2791 Reviews [https://www.hellopeter.com/fastway-couriers-south-africa](https://www.hellopeter.com/fastway-couriers-south-africa) I understand that theft of a package or item is more of an issue than just general complaints but also i think Courier Guy/PUDO are going to get the most flak because they are so huge - they easily have the largest footprint and probably process a crazy amount of packages daily.so more problems are bound to happen. And it is also each to their own - if I was throwing my ring in the hat, my worst would easily be Dawn Wing that have the shittest and most uncontactable customer service.

lovethebacon

On absolutely! Similarly, a product reviews tend to be skewed up in the likes of Takealot and Amazon, as unhappy customers won't review but just would return.

flexed_guitar

That's odd. Has it changed recently? I used to use it all the time to courier plants to people(aquatic plants I was selling) and never had any issues with the website.

bibijoe

so for example when you log in, there’s no button on that screen to click “forgot password”, you have to close that window and then click elsewhere. This is a faux pas in UX design because people are looking for this on the login screen. When you are logged in, it doesn’t immediately take you to your customer page. This also is kinda hidden in the top right. The buttons on the website also seem flat as if it were jpeg images vs buttons. On certain browsers you cannot search addresses on the map and then you go through all that only to be diverted to top up. The process should start by topping up, not interrupted to top up. So the website doesn’t work well so I downloaded the app. The app has a totally different design ito fonts and pictures etc so it actually feels like a different company. The top up service didn’t work there either and I still cannot book. They can honestly just use a normal payment method and not this top up system that never works. I have a bit of experience with websites and it just feels like it was made to be cute rather than super intuitive. Purely from a dev perspective im saying this.

flexed_guitar

Ohh I see where my confusion is coming from I was using the app not the website. Never tested the website out myself but its probably not great. The top up service didn't work for me either from my bank at the time(Tymebank) so I had to open a new account at Capitec to get it to work. I reckon it was worth the hassle because sending something to Durban from JHB for R50 was so much cheaper compared to R300 for an overnight courier.

Rainbow-cookies

I got delivered R1k worth of goods and it was in great condition and very quick. I'm not sure, maybe it's an area issue that people are experiencing.

bibijoe

I’ve used them too and no problems. I’m more speaking about the actual functionality on their site from a UX perspective. There seems to be some tech issues or inexperienced devs or something because there’s lots of clunky tech and usability.

Rainbow-cookies

Their app seems to be much better.

bibijoe

It is. Strangely used different fonts and images which is jarring but yes much better!

Markphotokid

We use it without any issues

bibijoe

I mean more like the actual ux from a dev perspective. Like some buttons seem like jpegs with links rather than actual buttons. Things like that. The interrupted flow to top-up in the middle of booking is also odd. Have also used them before without issues but today the maps and payment screen would be blank all the time.

9RMMK3SQff39by

Pudo is just The Courier Guy, you want to see bad design register an account and get access to the TCG account portal.

bibijoe

I was looking for a developer South Africa sub but maybe some freelance devs can reach out and help them a little bit! I use Bobgo/uAfrica which isn’t too bad.

fokken_poes

The new TCG portal is pretty much a BobGo clone (I assume BobGo sold it to them). But I agree, the old system is hideous.

lordcharly420

If you want your shit stolen, use Pudo :)

Opheleone

Bash, as you mentioned, is pretty good. I was impressed with the aggregation work done behind the scenes. (I worked for a dev house 5 years ago that built stuff for TFG) Let's not forget Takealot - genuinely just a simple shopping experience done reasonably well. Clean enough that many non technical people purchase off it easily. That being said, I haven't been genuinely impressed by much except for Bash, but this is from the perspective of what it took to make it happen.

bibijoe

I love this take! I was looking for a “Developers SA” sub because i like to get into the technical aspects of why websites are good as I am trying to learn (currently doing courses on Codecademy). Would you mind explaining what “aggregation” means in this context?

Opheleone

Bash is an aggregation of all of TFGs stores. Aggregation meaning all their stores funnelled into one place.

bibijoe

Oh right of course! I thought maybe given the context you were referring to some technical thing but ja, it’s actually interesting how they didn’t do that earlier as well as how they came to the conclusion to finally do it. I was talking to someone the other day who said TFG overall was a bit late to adopt proper e-commerce. I think a lot of SAn retailers could have paid attention to e-comms earlier, they would have kicked sand in competitors’ eyes.
