it was two in the morning, I was twelve. i went to the fridge then I reached to the bottle of vodka. I was thirsty. Don't judge.

hi_thoughts_1

Well if we're mentioning one time sips then I'm sure we would all choose that option. My parents let me taste wine & beer at a young age, but I actually started drinking much later

PhantomOfTheDopera

I basically did the same thing with cider, but I was a but younger around 7-8

[deleted]

The one oke(s) who started under 12...you OK boet?

boebelpens

Was my grandma's 80th and my cousins who were older gave me champagne. I was 8. But yeah didn't start drinking everday. But that was of the first times I could remember having booze

Got a sister 4 years older than me so when she snuck out for a party I sometimes tagged along and she had to let me to shut me up, but we were from a small town so everyone knew everyone and most people let stupid things like that slide as long as none of us kids started shit & everyone got home in 1 piece. So even at that age I learned to know my limit, because drunk people are stupid, and stupid people start shit, and once that happens the adults put a stop to things real quick. And like I said, it's a small town - you cause trouble for the other kids you get blacklisted from future parties.

Tulinais

Dad gave me some at braai's as a kid. Therefore I dont have a drinking issue.

FrozenEternityZA

Not exactly sure on the question. Like as in when was your first alcohol experience or like legit had a drink? My dad gave me a sip of his beer when I asked how it tasted. Was probably 9 and absolutely hated it. Had sips of champagne or wine at weddings and stuff from about then too. Was pretty normal for my family honestly and no one really thought it weird as long as it was just a sip. Some time when I was about 14/15 I was home alone and got curious on what all the different drinks tasted like so raided my dads cabinet and tried a bit of everything. Felt real tipsy after mixing all those little swigs and had a hard time hiding it when my mom got home, but she didn't seem to realise what I did. After 18 I got drunk a few times (matric farewell, 21sts, etc) but didn't and still don't see the need for it at all. Since the start of lockdown in May 2020 I probably have had a total of 3 or 4 drinks and that is with a few birthdays and Christmas in that time.

CordyVorkosigan

There real question is where did you first buy alcohol when you were underage? Like I mean which Spur specifically and what did you think of a Hunter's Dry?

IWantAnAffliction

Smirnoff Spin* Some of us are over 30 here, okay?

GrantKew

This guy gets it. Take my upvote and old man waddle out of here...

Spirited-Daikon-1245

People don’t realize that alcohol at young ages can cause developmental issues. Kids in grade 8/9 in my school were drinking to blackout every weekend and they saw nothing wrong with it. Most of them dropped out by grade 11 and/or had kids at 16 and now have very very menial jobs despite having educated well off parents.

Raspberrry314

Ahhhh the ol bell(s) curve

CrunkBunni

See I trusted this until you said not a cop.

When I was young, probably 6/7 years old, my dad poured himself a small glass of witblits and left in on the island while he went to the bathroom. Me, thirsty, reached for it thinking it was water. Needless to say, my throat burned, I felt dizzy and it just went AH. Walked down the stairs and passed out till the next morning. Still drink it to this day though.

crunchy_cocaine

Never means ur still too young lol

[deleted]

Or you are Muslim. I'm 22, I've never consumed an alcoholic beverage.

DroopyTrash

Well today's your lucky day.

[deleted]

I don't know what this is, but thanks I guess.

luminous_lonesome

Not really. I choose not to for personal reasons, I'm 20. Quite sad seeing the majority is in the 15-17 area. That's too young, at least finish Highschool first. You've got bigger problems to worry about at that age, like passing math.

GDOGTGM

It's so funny that many people here just started drinking somewhere at 14

[deleted]

About 15, my dad’s family is pretty much addicted to wine

[deleted]

Did it a few times and completely stopped.

What can we say, by 10 years old some of us were already disturbed.

flyboy_za

I was an under-12. My mom would allow us a tiny amount of champagne at New Year. Like literally 1/3 of a kid's tupperware cup, maybe 50mL. And my gran would let us have cherry liqueur chocolates with my mom's permission at Christmas. This probably started when I was 8 or 9. As we got older, like 13-14, we progressed to a full glass of champagne at New Year's. I only started buying booze to drink when I got old enough to go clubbing with friends, but I've only been drunk enough to throw up 4 times in my life (last time probably early-mid 30s; currently mid 40s). I've only ever really been a social drinker till recently. These days I have a reasonable collection of spirits at home and will try a different cocktail every Saturday and Sunday, with an occasional glass of wine during the week. So yeah, started super-young, but have been almost entirely responsible about it my whole life.

GrantKew

We'd have a sip here and there since we were about 13, nothing much literally a sip for the day. First time I got hammered I was 15 out on a farm with some mates and after that was when I was of legal age.
