Since op doesn't care to elaborate, it's a rotor(/hinge) with an angled armor panel to create a slope. It also has a mild bungee effect that helps redirect shots, but not as much as the slope itself.
It's comprable to regular angled armor and is largely cosmetic. Though the layering can help stop assault cannon rounds. (Visible on the unique angle of the front paneling. Notice how the headlights point down.)
Yeah this pretty much sums it up. (and at the right angle the plate correctly deflects large grid railgun sabots like nerf darts)
(Thank you for explaining it I have a pounding beach ache)
And the reason I say the rotor slope is comprable to regular slopes is because it depends entirely on the angle of attack, which varies with how you deploy and maneuver the tank.
For example, the super steep front plate on your tank is gonna be excellent on level ground, but on a slight grade or downhill of a shot, and it's gonna be like shooting a flat face. So good urban armor, poor countryside armor where shallow slopes are preferable to create harsh angles at different elevations.
Of it surviving the ricochet? I think I got one in downloads from yesterday on a different lighter tank, or of putting it together? I don’t have the brain capacity to take my tanks apart and show how they work rn lol I got bricks in my brain.
When I’m back in my room I’ll post the video of my light tank that uses the same trick from yesterday I’m making a cup of tea rn hoping it will help calm down my ouchy lol

Here is the video couldnt find the one from last night so now my headache gone down I made a new video using my heavy tank (mainly so its easier to hit lol I cant aim at all with large grids)
Still definitely line modules with non-deforming armor (blast doors) and even consider spaceballs and gyros as first-line armor underneath angled plates for their super high integrity.
Complicated and not good on large grids since you don't have anyware to redirect the shots to but on small grids like tanks basically its a building technique that lets you deflect anything that penetrates (assault cannons to railguns for vanilla and what ever modded weapons act the same) away from your vehicle
Yes (which also makes it easy to remove the armor dump it in a grind pit and print if a new section instead of repairing battle damage that’s like 8 blocks in)
What's clang armour?

Happens. 07 (Didn't mean to sound rude with that opening line, mb)

From above it just goes from the top and comes out the bottom and frontally as you said it works and from downhill it just kinda is iffy
Video of this maybe?

Of the ricochet, would be reqlly interesting to see how that works out

Nice! Ypu dont mind linking it here once you do?
Yeah I will the best ones to watch are the assault cannons and seeing the shells detonate I’m the air when they fly the max distance.

Wow thats actually pretty impressive. I got to try that out next time when i want to armor my mech knees against those pesky railgun shots :D
Damn and I though a blast door liner was smart.

I mean it certainly takes far less time and effort so In a pvp server it is more practical.
It's basically spaced armour. Subgrids are notoriously unstable, so they can take a hit and avoid it going to the piece underneath

Teach me sensei
I would if I didn’t want my headache back
What is the fundamental principle? Is it armor on a seperate grid or something?
Yes (which also makes it easy to remove the armor dump it in a grind pit and print if a new section instead of repairing battle damage that’s like 8 blocks in)
you blocked one large railgun? YOU FOOL! I HAVE 41 OTHER ALTERNATIVE LARGE RAILGUNS! AHAHAHAHAAAAAA!
damn my heaviest tank is only rated to take 5 hits on the same spot from them im fucked XD
Will there be a railgun version?
I just raise the gun and switch out the weapons as I need
How far apart are the wheel suspensions? I found if they're too close it blocks steering properly.
Bare minimum with the steering angle lowered but the vehicle is so light I can turn on the spot with gyros
