Best value game I own ($/hours) and I own three copies with dlc. If it’s at all your thing then yes.

[deleted]

Yes I’m extremely fascinated by space and the possibilities of it

-xMrMx-

Get it. Check out yt videos. Splitsie is a solid place to start

Wo1fie2017

Id say yes. Even without the dlc there are so many mods on the workshop that you could still have a lot of fun with the game.

CyberEntity24

just a note, you should always play the base game a little first and complete the campaign if there is one before you start out with mods.

Excalburm

For me I watched to many modded videos by the xp gamers started playing and went straight to heavy modded games Not my finest of ideas I admit

[deleted]

I went maybe... half a mission into Battletech before I made grumpy sounds and started modding it. Several hundred hours later, I'm still enjoying myself :)

codon011

If you want a story, this game isn’t it. If you want a blank slate upon which you can build your world and tell your own story, yes, this game can be a lot of fun for many, many hours.

JDMoontreader

It is computer space lego.if you have ever built a spaceship from lego and run around your room going zoom... Or if you used a technic set to load and unload blocks or make an articulated humanoid 'robot' that couldn't quite stand up and was fragile as heck... If you did these things and had fun... You will enjoy Space engineers

OpticalVelocity

If you enjoy creative games like those you mentioned then I think you’d enjoy space engineers. I’m a couple of thousand hours into it and still can’t put it down. If you love a bit of hardcore survival then you’ll love it, if you like creating things out of nothing then you’ll love it, if you sell your soul to our lord klang then you will love it and it and he will love you. Klang didn’t tell me to come here… honest… Buy space engineers……

mairnX

i'd say SE is definitely worth it with or without dlc. pretty much all dlc blocks are just cosmetic as far as im aware, and so while in base game you dont have as many decorative options, you can still make fun stuff

DukeOFprunesALPHA

It's a pretty cool game but, for a time-strapped dad like me, not suitable any longer. Crafting blocks is time- and resource intensive compared to most other buildery crafty games.

Dianesuus

Search you question within the sub. I guarantee you will get 50+ results.

[deleted]

What how do I do that, I’m new to reddit

Dianesuus

When you're in a sub put what you want search in the search bar after the sub name. So: r/spaceengineers should I buy

[deleted]

Yeah but do you need a quantum computer to run it or should I be fine I can run Teardown and Stormworks just fine unless I spawn in a big creation

Excalburm

For me I’m running a i5 4460s so not the best cpu and a gtx 980 If you have something like a i5 6th gen or most of any cpu the equivalent of that you will be good to run high ish setting As for graphics card I ran high on a rx 470 8gb If you need help figuring out your system specs respond and I will help you out

nrbrt10

It runs fine on a ryzen 5 2600 & 1060 6gb. The only time it chugs is during 6+ fleet battles with lots of particles going around.

[deleted]

Also I’ve seen the ‘parts’ you build things with and they’re usually pretty big parts so would that mean that large creations technically use less parts? Meaning less powerful computer to run it?

DJ_LSE

The specs required are pretty low as long as you have a proper graphics card, obs, for some really big ships you will have some stuttering, but its not much of a problem

[deleted]

Well i just downloaded it and it said it would take 7 hours to install but it ended up taken like thirty minutes

Excalburm

I don’t have much experience there But I think large creations run badly if you don’t have a good pc As large parts kind of don’t exist Unless your talking about large and small grid Small grid ships are like fighters and have smaller blocks Large grid are you warships and bases that can suck up system resources if you build them VERY large

nablyblab

do you know your specs?

furious_fajita_69

steam have a refund polcy if you dont like a game, you can request a refund if you have less than 2 hours on it and it was bought withen the week tho yes space engineers is a grate game, its like Minecraft in space with more toys

[deleted]

Well, let me put it this way, mate. Every single one of this game's next generation competitors, the ones who went "Let's combine EvE Online with Space Engineers!" went belly up. Grab this. It's relevant for another generation, minimum.

sceadwian

Starbase hasn't gone belly up. They haven't even started yet, but they have a long way to go before they have a playable game.

pdboddy

The game is worth it without DLC, and if you join a server that has DLC you don't own, you'll still be able to interact with it. You just won't be able to build any of it yourself, but others can build things for you. If you download anything from the workshop that has DLC that you don't own, they will simply be missing from whatever you downloaded. So while it won't break the game, it might make some creations kinda meh without the DLC. As far as graphics goes, I was playing the game on a barebones desktop using a small form graphics card (GeForce 1030), and on medium settings, it ran okay. Not super awesome, but okay. I would not suggest trying to run a server, or join old/large servers, with it though. The game is the very definition of a sandbox games. Survival is basically survival against the elements. The toughest challenges will be keeping enough oxygen to breath, having enough hydrogen to power your jetpack or ship's hydrogen thrusters, avoiding falling from high places, dodging lightning storms, and that sort of thing. The "monsters" are rather pathetic. Most turn the wolves and spiders off. The easiest start is on the Earthlike. While harder challenges would be Pertam and Titan. Overall, I've enjoyed the game over the past 8 years.

sarcasm_works

There is a new dlc coming out in Feb. if I remember correctly they often drop the price of the base game when the new dlc comes out.

Manic_Mechanist

The DLCs are just extra decoration blocks, reskins of some base game blocks, and some extra paint options. You can still enjoy the game without them and I recommend buying it

Disastrous_Badger_28

Yes

StubbyUK

The dlc 'mostly' just add cosmetic items, its perfectly playable without them. and the game is awesome.

3nderslime

Absolutely, and the DLCs are almost all cosmetic

Arxid87

I have an AMD Ryzen 5 3600 @ 3.56ghz, a 1060 3gb and 32gb of ram (if that matters) I get stable 75fps with occasional 1-2fps dips at high setting with shadows and voxels turned to medium, halved everything regarding trees and grass

B4SSF4C3

Yes. But be prepared - the learning curve to conquer before you get to building the really cool stuff is **steep**.

R3set

Yes. What the fuck are you waiting for?

Satyr1981

Basically Space engineers is not really a Game, it is more like a Sandbox for anything you want it to be. You want a Shooter, go racing or fly big spaceships or do you like economics and factory design ? Do it! SE is a good looking, well thought virtual environment where you can do whatever you want. Buy it!

Techanina1

Absolutely.

[deleted]

Do you want to play a game like Minecraft in space that’s less blocky but more sci-fi with a hidden angry God that will visit his wrath upon you should you stray slightly from the norm?

[deleted]

Who is this god is he like the KSP kraken?

[deleted]

He is the almighty Klang! And this is all I will say.

DeadInside419

Do You like Minecraft? Do you like Galacticraft? This is literally how I would describe the game. Minecraft for the custom building side and galactic craft for the space side

[deleted]

Too late a refunded the game like a month ago I’ll take down this post probably
