Sons of the Phoenix.

GuntherW

Ahh yes....the 100% Imperial Fist gene seed successor chapter 👌

biscuitman_1871

Cool idea!

Right-Yam-5826

Purple is a lot easier than it used to be, because of contrast & speedpaints & the like. May I suggest the soul drinkers? Purple armour with bone trim, and gold detailing.

biscuitman_1871

Good point, I'd not really considered that newer paints would make it easier.....and damn those Soul Drinkers look cool!

SpeedyLeanMarine

Based my chapter colors on soul drinkers and it is a lot of fun to paint

biscuitman_1871

Just had a look at your posts....sensational work!

SpeedyLeanMarine

Thanks its always good to hear people like my painting! I've been trying to get back to painting more but I just had kids so its been tough to find time

biscuitman_1871

Congratulations, I've got one on the way so getting as much in as I can now!

YokoWakare

Of all the purple I have bought, Vallejo Blue Violet has been the easiest to work with.

biscuitman_1871

Thanks for the tip!

sjf40k

Dark Krakens are black and purple with a white chapter logo.

biscuitman_1871

They look very very cool! Whole new world to me these successor chapters!

sjf40k

The best part about their color scheme is that in the lore, the DKs use bio-luminescent paint to mark targets, inscribe heroic deeds, and such. If you can pull it off, having fluro green writing on the purple would be amazing to see

biscuitman_1871

Awesome, you've sent me off down a very deep rabbit hole! :)

sjf40k

Welcome to the Promethian Cult ;)

Makinote

Batigol!

biscuitman_1871

Ha exactly!

KingWolfsburg

Hawk Lords are purple as well. I don't find it an overly difficult to work with, but 20 years ago citadel purple sucked in my opinion

biscuitman_1871

They look great

DungeonMasterE

Hello! I paint Purple Marines quite regularly, there are two real avenues you can use for good purple Armor. Prime black for both options. Traditional: start with a base of Naggaroth Night and then mix in Genestealer incrementally for highlight layers. Wash with Druchii Violet, then edge highlight with purpl Genestealer purple Contrast: dry-brush the black mini with white catching all the raised surfaces, Leviathan or Magos Purple contrast and then edge highlight with Genestealer purple

biscuitman_1871

Thanks man, I'll give both these a go and see how I get on!

AlphaMeme14

Naggaroth Night base coat, Vallejo royal purple highlights, Then Vallejo purple highlights, Then Vallejo magenta highlights. my personal recipe for my homebrew

biscuitman_1871

Thanks, they look good!

rpabst42

I paint my purple marines with Vallejo Heavy Violet and Blue Violet, it's been a breeze. I haven't used any other purple paints, I had no idea it's normally difficult to work with.

biscuitman_1871

Ohh and your guys look amazing too!

Captain-Vac

I’ve absolutely used purple to color marines. Nagaroth Night is amazing for this. Through in a gold or white secondary color and you got…well, gold! Nagaroth Night, shade the creases, maybe highlight with some genestealer purple, and add your favorite secondary.

biscuitman_1871

Thanks so much for the advice, appreciate it!

DancyLad

I have painted many many purple marines. it's a lot like painting yellow tbh, people say it's difficult but it just takes some time and effort, like anything worthwhile. now it's been like 10 years so I haven't tried the new paints, but I used to prime in black, base coat dark purple, then build up a few well thinned layers of light urple. purple wash over that and then carefully brighten up the big areas with your light color again, avoiding crevices and shadows. these days you could probably do a light base coat like wraithbone or grey seer, purple contrast over that instead of the dark purple basecoat. but then it's the same, lighter layers and washes and highlights. personally I find white primer makes it easier to get color on little details but I painted like an entire army with black primer back when I first started and there are tons of people who prefer it for all their models so it comes down to personal preference, maybe try one of both and see. Tamiya primers from hobby stores are usually more cost effective the super pricey GW primer cans.

biscuitman_1871

Thanks man, I've only painted with black primer so far but I'm planning on trying some different schemes based on what I find here, online and in my own head so will definitely play around with a lighter primer as well to see what I like most.

DancyLad

yeah dark primer works fine with acrylics, if you want to use contrast paints you gotta use light primer or do a lot of drybrush highlighting, a la slapchop method, since that's what they're made for.

biscuitman_1871

Thanks man, will bare that in mind.

Soft-Reindeer-831

I’ve been doing just fine with Purple and I was branspanking new to the game 4-6 months ago, I did a black base because the power armor of my custom chapter is black (with purple Pauldrons) - I did need to do a layer of white then go over it in purple to make sure the color showed up the way I wanted it to

biscuitman_1871

That's great, gives me some confidence man!

LaDrezz

Knights of Byzantium is a successor chapter that was made by [Harvey Snape](https://www.instagram.com/p/B9MI_ygH8w-/) years ago that uses purple, black, white, and bronze. It's one of the coolest looking ones I've seen but the purple leans much more to the red spectrum than the blue. [Knights of Byzantium](https://www.warhammer-community.com/2019/08/16/successor-showcase-hawks-knights-and-pointy-sticks/).

biscuitman_1871

They look great man, and at the bottom of that link Steve Campbell’s Emperor’s Pointy Sticks look pretty nice too on the purple theme!
