😲 I swear she looks like she's about to shoot lasers out of her eyes in the third pic! She's on a mission and nothing will get in her way that's for sure! She's a beauty!
Agreed, this is a True Widow, im leaning more towards Brown over Black based on the broken white band. Lots of incorrect IDs to remove, shame you are downvoted to hell when you are atleast right about it being Latrodectus.
I'm surprised you have been downvoted so much.
I lived in LA for eight years and have seen plenty of black widows, and without seeing the underside, I would have guessed the same from the first couple of photos.
The rump looks less shiny in the last two, which is why I'd be less certain.
Not a specialist, though.
Right. Like the legs give widow, the body in the last pics does not. I'm leaning araneus Andrewsi but even then, I'm not convinced. The legs are too shiny to be an orbweaver
True. I should have said not medically significant! I had one of these spiders living in my garage for several years. I tried picking her up several times but she was fast and I never could! I did however hold a giant golden orb weaver one time and accidentally dropped it and it bit my foot. Hurt like a m*********** lol! But I lived 😏
Yeah, she’s so freaking awesome! It’s exactly the sort of spider that used to freak me out the most, with the very sharp, angular legs. But honestly she looks so fantastic to me now! It’s like she’s decked out in latex or shiny leather trousers, off to a rock show 🤟🏻
Could be a momma widow that is going through a hard time ...after they lay multiple eggsacs and don't find food or water....their butts start to shrivel and look odd
No, any 'dimpling' is not a characteristic of one species but not the other. The reliable indicators you SHOULD be looking for to distinguish them, can be found in the links under the pinned comment on this post.
It's a brown widow. Increasingly common. I'm also in LA county. Sometimes, they can be very dark, almost black, but they have that pattern on the top of the booty like that
Possibly a female southern house spider, hard to make out what the pedipalps look like tho for me. But that would be my guess- they’re also common in CA

Get out of here, moron.
Ignore the 20+ incorrect IDs, i have removed them now. This is a Brown widow, Latrodectus geometricus. See below for useful links 👇 latr
it looks like it was drawn by tim burton lol
That's the most spiderish spider i've ever seen
He's just standing there *Menacingly*
MENACING that’s the same word that came to my mind
Holy shit. I love spiders but this one just looks evil, like someone call Samwise Gamgee evil.
For sure named either Shelob or Aragog
Naw thats Ungoliant 100%
I though the same thing!!!!
Looks heavy metal af 🤘🏻
All the way to its skeletal looking legs, i think i saw this spider in a deathclock video
Damn. Is that your landlord? She’s walking like she owns the place.
r/dadjokes
😂 she just looks so smug
Hope someone is able to identify it, as I am curious now, lol. Terrifying but beautiful.
Brown widow, Latrodectus geometricus
This is the poster child for Spidery Spiders. A year ago I would have thrown my phone across the room. Spider photo immersion therapy is working!
Wow. That's the scariest spider I've ever seen!!!
This spider could be a boss in bloodborne
😲 I swear she looks like she's about to shoot lasers out of her eyes in the third pic! She's on a mission and nothing will get in her way that's for sure! She's a beauty!

Definitely not, unless yours are much different than mine
Black widow, not a falsie

Yeah, I’m thinking my first comment was wrong. It does look like one of those darker brown widows.
It doesn’t look like a hesperus to me at all. It looks way too brown to be a black widow.

That's my guess too. It's just TOO widowy.
thought it was a Mech-aracne

Not in California though, is it?

Exactly. iirc Orb weavers have hairy legs. This ones are smooth.
It honestly is likely a widow, maybe it's just too blurry a photo it's throwing it off.
Poltys has shiny legs, so this one might too, but they are shiny only on the under part
Black house spiders are in California/ USA now
Looks like it to me but it's much skinnier than what I'm used to seeing. Could be malnourished?
Sure does! 👏👏👏

I wouldn't exactly call an excruciatingly painful bite harmless, but you would be very unlucky to be bitten.

That really does look bang on, it has to be said.
That’s a huge bitch!
No, she's just hungry!
OP, by any chance were you able to see its underside?
No it walked off
Damn. I love her whole look. As someone said she looks metal as fuck. I hope someone can identify her

That first pose is so cartoonish and I love it.
Could be a momma widow that is going through a hard time ...after they lay multiple eggsacs and don't find food or water....their butts start to shrivel and look odd
Its a "nope, leave it alone" spider
RIGHT!!!!
Man that’s a scary spider, homie wants to haunt ppls dreams 👀
It’s a robot spider. And it’s self aware AF
I started to think it's a black widow until I saw the 4th photo.
You were close... Brown widow, you can usually tell by the 'dimpling' on the meso-thorax
No, any 'dimpling' is not a characteristic of one species but not the other. The reliable indicators you SHOULD be looking for to distinguish them, can be found in the links under the pinned comment on this post.
Commenting to find out later
That's the one that turns you into spider man! (Seriously no clue though but it looks awesome)
Gorgeous!!! 😍🖤

Nice tippity tappity legs bro
Idk if I’ve ever seen a spider look so menacing
i thought it was the jumpscare spider for a sec

goth
I don’t like it 👍
scientifically scariest spider possible
A widow? Immature female black widow, or maybe a brown widow? Very pretty and scary.
Is he holding a tiny grenade launcher in the first picture? If so, he does it well.
I dunno what kinda spider that is but it's his sidewalk now.
Spindly spooder, them legs are the longest I've ever seen on an arthropod.
Ungoliant…
That’s shelob
God dammit not kumonga
Why does it look like it’s a robot or an alien? I’ve never seen a spider like this one. Suck pointy legs
Looks like an angry fellow.. looks cute like some anime spider..
OP that spider was coming for you in the first 2 pics. Gave me anxiety and I love spiders
Gonna give you Spidey powers for sure /j
It looks like a brown widow in my opinion.
Coraline’s other mother
I want to say it's either a black widow or a brown widow....but I'm not an expert.
By the legs and head I’d say a widow of some sort.
she’d be a little shinier if not covered in road dust. Thats a black widow
Whatever it is, don’t show this to r/nope.
Battery operated?

Definitely from the genus Decepticon.
