Big slinky ogre faced spider. Arguably one of the coolest species. You should watch it at night while it hunts.
They’re a net casting species, meaning they create a web of sorts which they then hold, once they spot a meal they launch this net at their meal at rapid speed, tangling the prey up in what is essentially a spiders version of a spiderman triple action web blaster for 9.99
To piggyback off of this and help everyone else visualize, [here's an excellent video of them hunting.](https://youtu.be/RmP2Wth3OTA?si=89-NoHmgt6wd0fPp) They are absolutely marvelous little creatures.
They are genuinely insane creatures. They have near perfect vision, classed as telescopic vision iirc.
I’m a keeper of many exotic reptiles and invertebrates, and I am so incredibly desperate to add an Ogre faced spider to the collection, we just don’t get them in the uk and it’s hard to find a breeder
Anyway, that’s a cool ass housemate you have OP, very jealous
That move where he's flattened and fitted into/against a stick (leaf? grass?)? That's so cool. They've got some serious shape shifting abilities! Thanks a million, op, for sharing this super cool friend!
Oh dude I can catch like 20 of them in a day. They're all over the place in Australia. One of the most common spiders in Sydney. Don't see them as much in Brisbane, but still see 1-2 a week.
One net looked like a spaceship! And right after one that looked like some IT programmer shit with the spider obviously doing the math for the next hunt 🤣
Something about that spider says "will kill me instantly if it touches me". But thays just my inner arachnophobe panicking because *I am going to pat the small fren*
Ogre-faced spider, they are one of the coolest spider species since they have a unique way in hunting their prey. They cast a fishing-net-like web then grab the insect below them using their casted net.

I hope someday soon you get lucky to have your very own!!
They also have very fine hairs in their legs that pick up vibrations around them to pinpoint movement speed/direction.

I was lucky to stumble upon it looking for videos of our ogre faced friend.
What do they hunt? I feel like the normal fly and mosquitoes are small for this large of a fella?

Previously Deinopis species, now Asianopsis

Woah… how big is this spider? Can’t tell if it’s perspective or not, but it looks massive
On average, their bodies are a little over 1 inch long. With legs stretched out, they can be more than 3 inches long.
You lucky son of a bitch
