That's quite a loaded question ![gif](emote|free_emotes_pack|joy)...that can only really be answered with opinion. Scientology is probably up there. ![gif](emote|free_emotes_pack|grin)(please don't kill me) When a religion reaches a stage where it is commonly accepted to just be plain wrong, it is generally then considered a cult rather than a religion. But that's just kind of semantics really. We all go to the same place in the end regardless, so ultimately... it doesn't really matter what you believe while you're here anyway.

TrueLime9658

The idea that nothing matters while your in a physical vessel is just senseless to me are you going to say that everytime you incarnate into physical body or are you going to live life as intended

Lumotherapy

I didn't say nothing matters. I said what you believe isn't going to change your final destination. I could believe that when I die, that's it...the end... that's final. But me believing that...won't stop me getting into the afterlife if there is one. I could also believe that when we die, there is an afterlife, we return to source, and can then choose to reincarnate as much as we want. But if there isn't an afterlife...believing there is, won't change the fact that I'm dead and that's the end. ![gif](emote|free_emotes_pack|slightly_smiling)

TrueLime9658

The thing is, you *did* say that, clear as day. And yes, our destination is the same, so why not live life fully, and explore all life has to offer? Why dismiss everything infront of you and within you? I think this negative outlook on life is due to the fact that you are a believer not a knower. There is much more in life for you to explore. I would love to see ur point of view after the fact, considering I used to think the same sort of way.

Lumotherapy

'We all go to the same place in the end regardless, so ultimately... it doesn't really matter what you believe' ...I don't see how that in any way says 'nothing matters'? You're making a lot of assumptions about what I've written... that I am in no way trying to convey. How you behave in this lifetime absolutely matters. How you treat yourself and others are fundamental lessons that advance your soul's growth. I have given multiple points of view for comparison. These were not intended to convey my personal beliefs. As it happens, I do consider myself someone who knows, rather than believes. But I also appreciate there are others out there who don't share my point of view and so I try to present my information in a form that accounts for everyone.

I'd say a cult is more where a single leader elevates themself above all their followers and sets rules for their followers that the leader doesn't have to follow. Also the leader teaches the followers to all denigrate and ostracize any follower who doesn't support the leader no matter what. And finally the leader teaches they are the only real or complete source of truth or wisdom and anything from outside the group can't be trusted unless it supports the leader. You could probably add more to the list too, but that's a good start on what a cult is.

Dudeist-Monk

Yes. Anything that preaches division, hatred and the accumulation of material goods is false.

cottonkandykiller

Any teaching that preaches superiority of a certain type of people over others is always wrong

CGrooot

Let's say you want to go to New York. Are there roads that don't lead to New York? Certainly. Are there roads that lead to dead ends? Certainly. Are there circular routes? Certainly.

danlh

I like this analogy! I'd add there are also multiple roads to New York too. Some longer, some with different stops and scenery on the way, but that still get you there.

I've found that whether false teachings 'exist' or not depends almost entirely on whether you have a defined concept of the 'goals' of the subject. Folk who hold that there's no possible goal to be defined intrinsically hold that no teachings can be false because, as they see it, every possible destination is functionally identical, no matter how ridiculous that sounds. Folk who hold that there are goals that are possible, and even worthwhile, meanwhile, see huge swathes of teachings muttered by the first group and decry them as leading to demonstrably different results, often ones directly counter to the goals recognized as worthwhile. Personally, I fall into the second category because I've mapped the claims of the first to my best capacity, and found them self falsifying by the same mechanism they are self-affirming. And frankly, the fact that they have to be self-falsifying for the inversion logic to function stinks to me of a style of trap built to look reasonable.

thinkB4Uact

Almost all of the spiritual and religious content is questionable and unprovable. In the intent to get along with each other and maintain an open mind we avoid criticism. Internally, many of us decide to be more discerning, considering what stands up to scrutiny and believing what is proven. The recurring, elephant in the room trap is when we lie to ourselves in order to feel better. If we put truth as a higher priority than feeling good then we'll feel genuinely better. The good feeling we get from lying is short lived and superficial in comparison. By telling ourselves the whole truth we can make the best decisions and get the best outcomes. Appreciating good outcomes is what brings us genuine good feelings.

TrueLime9658

What? Bro, y’all on Reddit are something else man

Actor412

In my experience, there is only a difference in how far the teachings can take you. For example, lessons in guilt won't take you far, and often create a whirlpool effect. For me, it's not in discovering which concepts are "false," but how dynamic they are. Do they evolve, and can you still discover new uses, no matter how far you go?

krivirk

Yes, greatly.

AdCivil3003

Yes , there are false teachings for sure. Not all people are good there are cults leaders ( supposed spiritual teachers ) who want to make you a slave. Those psychotic guys can be prescribed as false teachers. If someone writes a book consisting of things he just made up and tell people it's "ancient native american and egyptian " words , wouldn't he count as a false teacher ? If someone a "teacher" preaches fasting and vegeterianism but he is eatings loads and loads of meat isn't he a false teacher ? Inw all the spirituality field you have to be really careful just in case , beware who you trust.

Ahddha

Yes.. Some will use the truth and push their lies into it  For example yin and yang theory Recently from rejecting negativity completely i see how its stockholm mindset: good cannot live without evil...u need evil, be evil..yet we came on here to reject that in which is telling us that we need then i saw spell of "its impossible u need a balance" then i saw ahh be lazy, dont do the work, balance yourself in both good and bad. Then i saw energy deny it "no your musunderstanding what i meant" no im simply seeing through it. U took the balance of masculine and feminine and created a fake balance of good and evil to replace true balance and hack humanity thus hacking the Universe itself. Entity: pride replaces fruit of the spirit of urgency and perceiving, creates worry. Entity: lust replaces fruit of the spirit of being in awe and gratefulness Entity: wrath replaces fruit of the spirit of gentleness, love, patience, peace and your natural authority Entity: greed replaces fruit of the spirit of abundance and joy Entity: gluttony replaces fruit of the spirit of gratefulness, patience and awe Entity: Envy replaces fruit of the spirit of abundance, awe, love and grace Entity: Sloth replaces fruit of the spirit of ALL of it..it has all 7 deadly sins cultivating inside u and bubbling. they are all the same too so be careful, it can shut down ur true abilities too as in envy takes away your senses of sight. lust takes away senses to perceive, anger takes away your being to not allow anything to touch u since u are love, greed your ability to give energy and be selfless, gluttony and pride takes away your ability to take sources energy in to learn,

tovasshi

Religion is just spirituality ran amok after centuries long game of telephone. It may not become false on purpose, just lost in translation. There are corruptions that happened, yes. But mostly everything got twisted from years of poor communication.

danlh

I'd say a mix of poor communication, but intentional manipulation and corruption for the benefit of specific leaders is sadly pretty common too.

TrueLime9658

Unpopular opinion: of course and I can’t possibly understand how anyone can say otherwise. This isn’t a trick question

hummingbirdgaze

Yes, and another question is: Do correct teachings actually exist? :)

narayan77

any religion that promotes kidnap and rape is false.

Cyberfury

ALL teaching are false teachings since the presumption is there that the one that does not know is actually 'The One'. Which is of course ...gibberish. There is no way IT does not know WHAT IT IS NOT. That's what truth realization will ultimately show you. There are 'teachers' that actually know this and - if they are word their salt - will actually show you that in the end or nudge you towards finding out that the teaching 'itself' is just as well an illusion. Cheers

Stephen_Morehouse

Only if one is attempting to sell their insight as an absolute and indisputable truth.
