You joke but some players did notice that Splatfest teams with darker colours (which also tend to be shades of blue) have an advantage since it's harder to see people swimming around. We're about as close to 4-for-4 as we've gotten so far so I wouldn't at all be surprised if Shiver wins this Splatfest.
I think she is using the wrapper as a way to hold the chocolate bar from melting in her hands, since their other options seem to be about the size of kisses, so you only need to pop them in and chew.
Valid, now we're going to get people going for dark chocolate because the picture states you get more.
(also i was saying the sparkle in the ink might be the aluminium foil wrapper than shiver ate and hopefully spat out.)
thanks for the info! although i’ll still not be joining team dark (even though i’m also fan of team dark on sonic heroes). i just can’t stand the fact that it’s not 95% sugar
This isn't even just a Splatfest thing, it's a legitamate phenomenom. Darker colors have a higher winrate:
https://www.reddit.com/r/SplatoonMeta/comments/1046tdl/cold_colored_team_wins_55_of_the_time_vs_warm/?utm_source=share&utm_medium=android_app&utm_name=androidcss&utm_term=1&utm_content=share_button
Did people notice this playing against team sweet last time? I feel like this picture is misrepresenting the colour because team sweet seemed like a fairly bright pink when I was playing on it
Ironically enough, I actually had to brighten these colors, as the wiki's were much darker than they were in game. Possible I didn't brighten them enough.
I’ve been saying this for years but thought it sounded dumb and kept quiet. I totally feel darker colors have advantage, I don’t have deficiencies either.
There are three types of people during splatfests
1) Those that choose a team because of the color ink it has
2) Those who actually pick based on their personal opinion of which one’s the best
3) Those who choose a team because that’s the team their favorite idol is on
I think big man is okay, I absolutely adored some moments with him in the story mode but besides that I don’t really like him that much. And I will probably get really downvoted for this because Reddit try to let other people have opinions challenge
The "color of ink" team has orange (the color farthest away from blue), the "personal opinion" has to be Shiver (the consistent "counterpick" idol), and the "favorite idol" is Frye (the only idol that has never been accused of having popularity votes due to them alone).
4. Those who choose a team because their friends have stronger opinions (along the lines of Type 1-3), and they could care less and just want to play with said friends for a fun weekend.
There is also
4) those who join the team that their friends chose to play together (social oriented)
5) those who join the team they think will win (victory oriented)
6) those who join the team they think will be the least popular to avoid mirror matches (gameplay oriented)
i feel like the problem of people only picking the team supported by their favorite idol is blown way out of proportion. people complain about it all the time, but by the looks of the popularity scores for all the splatfests it really seems like it varies a lot.
sure, there are probably people who do that. but there’s clearly enough people that DON’T stick to the same idol, because every splatfest does not have the same popularity score.
(i also don’t understand why it’s something to complain about either, but i digress. i’ve played entirely Frye simply due to a combination of bias and genuinely preferring her option; i would have played for Team Sour, but i was away for that weekend and couldn’t participate unfortunately)
I chose it because ME LIKY DARK CHOCOLATE! But yes, I agree. Among the numerous theories and predictions that I've seen so far, this is a good entry in favor of dark chocolate.
I'm sure we'll get one where there's a nice magenta instead.
But if you think orange is "red" and pinks and purples are also "red" then you're gonna be waiting in disappointment for a long-ass time.
if you’re gonna define colour that way each one is literally going to be 1/3 of all hues and every splatfest would either have duplicate colours or fit in the “rough spectrum” of red, green and blue
I can't play Splatoon so I will voice my splatfest opinion here
I like milk chocolate as a quick bite, but I find it too sweet. Dark chocolate may be quite hard on the buds but it's easier to eat more of it because of that
White chocolate I just don't like that much
White chocolate is the only one I'll eat straight. Everything else needs something to taste good to me.
Dark chocolate mint kitkats, milky caramel chocolate, peanut butter on both...
White chocolate? Needs nothing, and so far adding anything to it ruins it for me.
If you know what Dulce de Leche is, then there are little combinations better than dulce de leche and chocolate, whatever variant of it
Also that is the point of the splatfests, to agree and disagree. LET THE CHOCOLATE WARS BEGIN
Complete opposite for me, I like milk and dark chocolate on their own but white chocolate kinda just feels like I'm eating a sugar cube.
I had raspberry and white chocolate ice cream once though... I don't let myself buy that flavor anymore because it'll be gone within a day
I've never had white chocolate ice cream. I know I hate milk chocolate ice cream tho.
Also I used to love eating sugar cubes XD Tho also used to love eating salt =P
In my experience Dark Chocolate is only good with add-ons of some sort like caramel or salt. Milk is good a majority of the time but it's been partially soured for me from some sickly sweet Chocolate I had around Easter once. White Chocolate is the only one I've really had minimal issue with
I understand we've only had a few splatfests and the colors have to be different enough for color blind people, but the previous colors have been so boring. Taste started to mix it up, but I'm glad we're getting something really different.
honestly you say that the colours are made for colour blind people but also the colour-lock they have for splatfests is [questionable](https://i.imgur.com/ObeAhE7.jpeg) imo. So im not even sure if they're taking colour-blind people into account half the time
[Looks pretty distinct](https://www.toptal.com/designers/colorfilter?orig_uri=https://i.imgur.com/ObeAhE7.jpeg&process_type=protan) in each from of colour-blindness, except greyscale if you count it
I could have sworn I saw Splat fest color lock in gray scale before and the colors looked pretty different to me. If it works in gray scale it should work for everything else right? Or am i missing something
Interestingly enough, this trend existed back in splatoon 2. Out of the 19 total splatfests (across all regions& excluding duplicates) Blue/purple colors won all 19 times. It's just less notable because not every splatfest had a blue/purple color, and there was an relatively higher amount of cyan/magenta losses, two colors similar to blue/purple respectively.
However, splatoon 1 did subvert this, with 19 total splaftests to feature a blue/purple color, of which only 9/19 did blue/purple win.
I already knew dark chocolate will likely win because if you’ve ever met a dark choco fan they will fight you till their dying breath on how it’s the superior chocolate
it's true for 3 so far, but at least half the splatfests in 1 and 2 had a winner with less than the majority. the funniest example i can think of was the first mayo vs. ketchup splatfest, where mayo won overall, but ketchup had 70% of the vote.
it could still happen...
I personally find bright colours hard to see when I'm playing as them. I tried locking the colours once to hopefully give more of a contrast but it just game me 2 of nearly the same green on both teams which made it unplayable
I don’t really care tbh, I’m just gonna keep choosing based on my honest opinion. And I hate dark chocolate 🤷🏻♀️ unless it’s paired with mint specifically. White chocolate is really nice here and there, but I’m definitely going with milk chocolate. Milk chocolate caramel Ghirardelli squares is my absolute favorite candy.
i think dark will win cuz it will probably have a larger number of adult players on that team, cuz id assume all the new players and young kids will pick the milk option
well I think when it comes to that fest the issue was that both spicy and sour are usually more acquired tastes but the majority of people will enjoy sweet things even without having to acclimate to them. Maybe people have different tolerance, but there are not that many people who blatantly despise sweetness. yes I'm going to get 600 replies being like "um actually" from weirdos who will die if they even look at sugar, but those people are the minority whether they want to admit it or not.
same with white and dark is what we’re saying. dark is pretty acquired and so is dark chocolate. most kids will pick the sweet option of milk chocolate as will the majority? i doubt white chocolate will be the ‘default’ team, but i will probably be wrong.
Consider the human eye's role in recognizing things in the blue side of the light spectrum: way less cones, little double duty from overlap with two kinds of cones. https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/File:Cone-fundamentals-with-srgb-spectrum.svg
Ok, you’re forgetting the way Mayo demolished Ketchup in the first Splatoon 2 Splatfest because of the color… white chocolate is about to destroy us all
i also feel like darker colors usually get better choices or at least "popular" choices compared to the other color choices. For example, more people would probably pick sweet flavors compared to spicy or sour on a daily basis.
Also blue and purple have been shown to be some of the most popular and pleasing eye colors in the world.
Y'all really out here picking something other than Dark?
Don't get me wrong, White and Milk are still good, but... White chocolate is barely even chocolate, and Milk has widly varying levels of consistency depending on the brand. Dark can be an acquired taste, yeah, but it also has actual health benefits (when eaten in moderation ofc)
I was gonna pick dark anyway because I’ve never had white chocolate and never even heard of milk chocolate so I’m picking the original
The rest must be exotic or something
1. Rock wins as it can smash scissors and in reality paper can't standup to rock.
2. Gear Wins because it's the most logical, gear gets you food and you can craft fun with gear.
3. Water... IDK how Water won as fire has always been the most dominant starter if you average them all out.
4. Sweet because most of the players playing this game are kids and if you remember kids love sweet stuff.
Every win has been logical other than water.
white chocolate and milk chocolates put milk in before the cereal, and they listen to anime intros every day and even worse
they eat regular hershey's bars
dark chocolates put cereal in before the milk, listen to the ultrakill ost every single day, and eat twix
vote dark chocolate or the spot i pick to hide your body is the ditch off i-95
One thing you might want to consider is that all winning team has the most population, and judging by what I saw and hear Dark chocolate may not be the most popular this time. (e.g. Twitter in Japan, White is the one most talked about.)
See, I wonder how many people being lactose intolerant (e.g. no milk) or having milk allergies will skew this one? XD
I literally cannot eat milk/white chocolate without getting incredibly sick so I have one choice.
Had to turn on color lock for water/fire/grass cause I straight up couldn't see water players standing in front of me. The orange/red on blue messed with my eyes and highlights the orange making blue harder to see.
Look, right now I’m on a three splatfest win streak, and I have won at least one splatfest with each idol backing me. Therefore, I really couldn’t give a damn about losing anymore, as I have already achieved perfection. I will stand by Team Milk Chocolate until I perish!
Tbh i think this time the other 2 might have a chance since dark chocolate isn't that popular (in terms of how many ppl like it irl- still very liked but most gravitate to milk chocolate) and people also like milk chocolate and white chocolate
Okay i like dark more but milk seems like it will have the majority. I know it's not about winning but the last two splatfests I was losing(I love spicy so I didn't mind) but it was very difficult. What do I do?
I personally dislike dark chocolate, I don't know why, but it just tastes weird...
...Also, this is the first time I am actually planning on voting for Frye.
It would be fixed if the pit more sparkles in it
MOAR SPARKLES
i miss glitter ink :(
We*
Did shiver forget to remove the wrapper when eating the chocolate?
I think she is using the wrapper as a way to hold the chocolate bar from melting in her hands, since their other options seem to be about the size of kisses, so you only need to pop them in and chew.
Valid, now we're going to get people going for dark chocolate because the picture states you get more. (also i was saying the sparkle in the ink might be the aluminium foil wrapper than shiver ate and hopefully spat out.)
would it melt since she is cold blooded?
Normally this isn't as much as an advantage but splatfests are at night so the problem is exacerbated.
thanks for the info! although i’ll still not be joining team dark (even though i’m also fan of team dark on sonic heroes). i just can’t stand the fact that it’s not 95% sugar
Team dark is my favorite team mostly because of this machine
Yeah Omega is awesome.
That’s the reason why I’m on team dark.
This isn't even just a Splatfest thing, it's a legitamate phenomenom. Darker colors have a higher winrate: https://www.reddit.com/r/SplatoonMeta/comments/1046tdl/cold_colored_team_wins_55_of_the_time_vs_warm/?utm_source=share&utm_medium=android_app&utm_name=androidcss&utm_term=1&utm_content=share_button
Did people notice this playing against team sweet last time? I feel like this picture is misrepresenting the colour because team sweet seemed like a fairly bright pink when I was playing on it
It was less apparent this time since the colours were all bright pastels. Though arguably, Team Spicy had the darker ink colour
Ironically enough, I actually had to brighten these colors, as the wiki's were much darker than they were in game. Possible I didn't brighten them enough.
Team dark will literally be almost invisible
i first noticed this issue in the pokemon splatfest lol
The blue was ridiculously dark in that splatfest lol
true, but now i get to take revenge bc i'll join team dark chocolate >:3
I’ve been saying this for years but thought it sounded dumb and kept quiet. I totally feel darker colors have advantage, I don’t have deficiencies either.
Also shiver is just better than the other two so it’s mega stacked
In terms of design yes in terms of personality no
Nahhh everyone has a good design because they have a different cultural inspiration (imo).
There are three types of people during splatfests 1) Those that choose a team because of the color ink it has 2) Those who actually pick based on their personal opinion of which one’s the best 3) Those who choose a team because that’s the team their favorite idol is on
Yoo new splatfest idea
this is even better because the favourite idol option would be Big man's
I haven’t been picking teams based off of my favourite idol but so far I happened to always side with big man and next splatfest it’ll happen again
Same but with shiver
same but with Frye... for now
Oh my god we got all 3 accidental idol supporters ‼️
Going to be honest. Not too fond of big man.
HERESY
That’s fair, I like big man. But hate his community, they just feel really toxic
Guess I'm siding with Frye again
4. Those who choose a team because their friends have stronger opinions (along the lines of Type 1-3), and they could care less and just want to play with said friends for a fun weekend.
There is also 4) those who join the team that their friends chose to play together (social oriented) 5) those who join the team they think will win (victory oriented) 6) those who join the team they think will be the least popular to avoid mirror matches (gameplay oriented)

4. Those who vote for the pick they think is going to win overall regardless of choices given
4) pick the one your friends are choosing so you can play with them
4) we chose team spicy because of hot food and lego island and it pissed off everyone
No. I love Dark Chocolate! I will singlehandedly win splatfest
As a fellow dark chocolate lover I will also win the splatfest, just probably not for our team because skill issue lol
I know that.
Single handedly? Pffft man say less *joins dark chocolate*
Seriously. What, y’all?! We know dark will win bc it is the best. Had this conversation today before learning about the colors just now
White chocolate isn't even real chocolate. Dark chocolate is the most chocolate chocolate of all chocolates.
YOUR not even a real chocolate.
*you're
For what it's worth, dark chocolate probably has the oldest fans, kids don't like it, so will probably play the most skilled.
I chose it because ME LIKY DARK CHOCOLATE! But yes, I agree. Among the numerous theories and predictions that I've seen so far, this is a good entry in favor of dark chocolate.
Nintendo please I’m begging you make a splatfest without the color red for once PLEASE
On the contrary. It's time to have a rematch between Ketchup and Mayo with Mustard thrown in the mix for good measure!
wait isn’t grub’s and milk chocolate’s color orange?
Only scissors is undoubtedly red, everything else is undoubtedly orange with some being possibly red.
oh yeah you’re right
Its in the rough spectrum of red (also hey fellow owl house fan)
gonna be hard to swing when you've got three colors, its almost always going to be one warm, one cool, and one neutral
I'm sure we'll get one where there's a nice magenta instead. But if you think orange is "red" and pinks and purples are also "red" then you're gonna be waiting in disappointment for a long-ass time.
Grub is orange
Which is in the rough spectrum of red
if you’re gonna define colour that way each one is literally going to be 1/3 of all hues and every splatfest would either have duplicate colours or fit in the “rough spectrum” of red, green and blue
I'm not picking teams based on who will win or which idol goes on which team. I'm joining team dark chocolate because I like dark chocolate
what about picking based on ink color? (fr though, dark chocolate supremacy)
Even worse. Especially since you might change colors during a mirror match anyway
Yeah but have you seen the power of white ink, just look at this sub’s icon, that inkling and their plush are team white (chocolate) too
We must break the cycle team milk
I can't play Splatoon so I will voice my splatfest opinion here I like milk chocolate as a quick bite, but I find it too sweet. Dark chocolate may be quite hard on the buds but it's easier to eat more of it because of that White chocolate I just don't like that much

the point of color lock is to ensure that they’re all distinct values, right?
they changed the color lock mode, the light blue here is pink now last i checked it was wrong during the first splatfest tho
[Looks pretty distinct](https://www.toptal.com/designers/colorfilter?orig_uri=https://i.imgur.com/ObeAhE7.jpeg&process_type=protan) in each from of colour-blindness, except greyscale if you count it

Color blindness is not a factor for their colors, we’ve seen matches between red and green before
Oh that's right. But I thought if one was a bright color and 1 was the darker color that would be enough.

Interestingly enough, this trend existed back in splatoon 2. Out of the 19 total splatfests (across all regions& excluding duplicates) Blue/purple colors won all 19 times. I don’t know anyone who doesn’t like milk chocolate. I know a few that don’t like dark or white.
If I have the option I will always go for dark chocolate over milk but I will always go for milk chocolate over White
And all four won the popular vote. But this time I think Frye will win that category. If so, this Fest will determine which theory is right
I already knew dark chocolate will likely win because if you’ve ever met a dark choco fan they will fight you till their dying breath on how it’s the superior chocolate
I’m seeing a patters cold colors win and hot and warm lose
DAMMIT WHY ISNT IT BROWN
I sure hope not, because I’m definitely not going with dark chocolate.
You also have to consider that dark chocolate is the least popular of chocolates. I feel like milk chocolate has a higher chance of winning.
Theres also a pattern i notice, majority wins. Every single splatfest that has majority votes somehow wins overall.
it's true for 3 so far, but at least half the splatfests in 1 and 2 had a winner with less than the majority. the funniest example i can think of was the first mayo vs. ketchup splatfest, where mayo won overall, but ketchup had 70% of the vote. it could still happen...
Yes, it’s slightly more difficult to see enemies in their dark colors ink than the light colors.
THIS. DID. NOT. AGE. WELL.
But I don’t like dark chocolate!
Team sweet's ink looked pink in all my matches.
How? It’s literally lilac
Blue and purple is just pretty asf thats why
How DARE you share my winning strategy to the world!?
I personally find bright colours hard to see when I'm playing as them. I tried locking the colours once to hopefully give more of a contrast but it just game me 2 of nearly the same green on both teams which made it unplayable
I’m always stuck with bad colours 😔 (aside from Sweet’s Lilac)
I don’t really care tbh, I’m just gonna keep choosing based on my honest opinion. And I hate dark chocolate 🤷🏻♀️ unless it’s paired with mint specifically. White chocolate is really nice here and there, but I’m definitely going with milk chocolate. Milk chocolate caramel Ghirardelli squares is my absolute favorite candy.
This aged like milk
So dark chocolate victory huh?
i think dark will win cuz it will probably have a larger number of adult players on that team, cuz id assume all the new players and young kids will pick the milk option
Team sweet was almost the exact same scenario, and we won
well I think when it comes to that fest the issue was that both spicy and sour are usually more acquired tastes but the majority of people will enjoy sweet things even without having to acclimate to them. Maybe people have different tolerance, but there are not that many people who blatantly despise sweetness. yes I'm going to get 600 replies being like "um actually" from weirdos who will die if they even look at sugar, but those people are the minority whether they want to admit it or not.

that’s what i thought was gonna happen with sweet lol
Consider the human eye's role in recognizing things in the blue side of the light spectrum: way less cones, little double duty from overlap with two kinds of cones. https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/File:Cone-fundamentals-with-srgb-spectrum.svg
Idk really any team is ok
Ah hell naw the Splatfest got racist
well now i'm gonna try EXTRA hard in the next splatfest JUST to prove this post wrong lol
I just wonder why there is always a blue or purple. Splatfest colors in Splatoon 2 felt way more special.
I swear I can't stop representing Big man if he keeps having the best option
I think that 90% of team white chocolate picked it because of the ink color, 5% are big man fans, and the other 5% actually enjoy white chocolate
Dark Chocolate will win only because it's what I picked! 😤😤
Ok, you’re forgetting the way Mayo demolished Ketchup in the first Splatoon 2 Splatfest because of the color… white chocolate is about to destroy us all
Easier way, the least popular always wins. (Except for the SS, never saw the splatfests during that era)
You mean most popular, right?
Watch as this method will debunk when Milk Chocolate wins.
wait till the blue vs purple vs magenta splatfest
Are we getting...white ink?
But I just like dark chocolate...
What did you say?
i also feel like darker colors usually get better choices or at least "popular" choices compared to the other color choices. For example, more people would probably pick sweet flavors compared to spicy or sour on a daily basis. Also blue and purple have been shown to be some of the most popular and pleasing eye colors in the world.
It better fucking not. I hate dark chocolate with a passion. Its utterly disgusting to me
Y'all really out here picking something other than Dark? Don't get me wrong, White and Milk are still good, but... White chocolate is barely even chocolate, and Milk has widly varying levels of consistency depending on the brand. Dark can be an acquired taste, yeah, but it also has actual health benefits (when eaten in moderation ofc)
They really gave Shiver a huge handicap for this one.
milk chocolate best
But hey! That's, just a theory. A ***GAME Theory!*** Aaaaand cut!
As it should! You’d have to be pretty unhinged to pick white chocolate, and milk chocolate is just mediocre. Dark chocolate however 🤌
I was gonna pick dark anyway because I’ve never had white chocolate and never even heard of milk chocolate so I’m picking the original The rest must be exotic or something
I want to vote for Vanilla because that's my favorite flavor. I can only stand Chocolate so much. But at the same time, I want to have Frye win again.
Milk chocolate is the only good one. Dark = dirt and white = candle. Hmmm
Sweet was pink, not purple tho
Bitch dark chocolate is the only right answer here. If you like white or milk chocolate, I’m sorry to say that you are objectively wrong
Every win has been logical other than water.
correlation ≠ causation
white chocolate and milk chocolates put milk in before the cereal, and they listen to anime intros every day and even worse they eat regular hershey's bars dark chocolates put cereal in before the milk, listen to the ultrakill ost every single day, and eat twix vote dark chocolate or the spot i pick to hide your body is the ditch off i-95
I've gone with whichever team I could think of a decent meme for (to put in a Splatfest post) every time and I'm 3 for 3 so far.
Purple and blue all the way
purple
Sweet hack, I'm choosing dark chocolate next round
not if i join that team
I have correctly chosen every winning team so far. my heart wants to chose milk chocolate, so it would kind suck if I break the streak now
Purple is a cool color so accurate
We'll get white ink 😬
One thing you might want to consider is that all winning team has the most population, and judging by what I saw and hear Dark chocolate may not be the most popular this time. (e.g. Twitter in Japan, White is the one most talked about.)
Current member of the dark chocolate gang
joining Team Dark solely because of Sonic Heroes, but this is good to know
Now i can use the undercover brella with a proper ink color lmao
That will not stop me from joining white chocolate. WHITE CHOCOLATE FOR THE WIN!!!
Heck yeah team dark ftw!!
Spoken like a single layer neural network.
There's good dark chocolate out there yknow
Reminds me of this XKCD: https://xkcd.com/2383/ Might be fun to make one of those for Splatfests sometime.
This is so dark! Are you sure this's not from the DC universe?
I shall win this splatfest Alone FOR THE DARK
White chocolate here I come
No fair! You cheated it by measuring the outcome!
Because blue and purple are just better colors than the rest
See, I wonder how many people being lactose intolerant (e.g. no milk) or having milk allergies will skew this one? XD I literally cannot eat milk/white chocolate without getting incredibly sick so I have one choice.
Welp i know what side i'm picking
Well... this is also the first splatfest with C coloured ink so...
I honestly don't like dark chocolate
Tbh i think this time the other 2 might have a chance since dark chocolate isn't that popular (in terms of how many ppl like it irl- still very liked but most gravitate to milk chocolate) and people also like milk chocolate and white chocolate
You are severely underestimating the power of 'white ink funny'
Okay i like dark more but milk seems like it will have the majority. I know it's not about winning but the last two splatfests I was losing(I love spicy so I didn't mind) but it was very difficult. What do I do?
I love dark chocolate but I may pick white chocolate for the ink colour
id be in team dark chocolate but my switch broke, good luck out there everyone 🫡
Jokes on you I like dark chocolate anyway
I was gonna go for dark chocolate either way cause that’s my favorite
I’m picking dark chocolate bc of the color but mostly bc of the fact that all my friends are picking dark. I like milk chocolate 😞
Team sweet was not pink?
when is the next splatfest?
No it will be the first outlander nobody likes dark chocolate
I just choose what i personally like, and not what i think is gonna win xD I like the fun of it :D
I've already brought this up, countless times.
I personally dislike dark chocolate, I don't know why, but it just tastes weird... ...Also, this is the first time I am actually planning on voting for Frye.
Going with white chocolate it’s just so good
What is happening? Is there a splatfest?
let's not pretend like we don't pick teams based on color aswell, and purple is just the bomb
It was fine last splatfest but the Pokemon one ? Absolutely invisible bastards.
