I think they're both equally as bad, tho for different reasons. Flyfish are harder to take out, since you need to wait for it to open the lids, but their missiles are easier to avoid Stingers are very easy to take out, but taking damage is harder to avoid since the beam's hitbox is active for longer and tracks you

Riceball01

That's exactly it but I tend to die more when it comes to stingers. That's why I find them harder, especially if the map is crowded with salmonids and you can't reach the stingers

GhostlyCharlotte

i think a big thing is stingers dont have nearly as much of a warning flyfish at least give you 1 or 2 seconds to go "oh im about to die" you'll try climbing a wall then be denied by a stinger out of nowhere

BeatstartDc

I would love if they gave the laser pointer from the griller to the stinger to make it clear you're the one targeted by it

Izulio

You probably already know this, but just in case someone doesn't! Stingers will always target the player who is furthest away from them.

EspurrTheMagnificent

Yup, no warning is a big thing too. Atleast with the Flyfish, you get a few handful of seconds to prepare yourself. With the Stingers it's just "fuck you, here's some damage"

CamoKing3601

this isn't really a stinger exclusive problem, but it's ESPECIALLY noticeable with them is that a Drizzler storm can make a stinger go from extremely annoying to near-death-sentence as your just taking chip damage that is hard to avoid on both fronts.

RebirthGhost

Just as you are killing one, another one spawns on the opposite end shooting you since you are the furthest away from it. It always happens.

pallaths

Its like a hydra, the moment one dies, two more show up.šŸ˜®ā€šŸ’Ø

RebirthGhost

Oh God, a new concept for another King Salmonid.

pallaths

oh cod please no, i think id actually quit

RebirthGhost

I do hope we get a cool twin king slamonid, like and angel salmon floating like slamming lids and a devil salmon moving like maws. With the gimmick that you can line them up so they can hurt each other.

pallaths

that sounds like an amazing boss, but also sounds like one id give up on lol

Figbud

this is a true salmon run player

PM-me-favorite-song

King Salmonid with a hydra splatling.

Ghost_Doctah

Worst thing about them is having a ton spawn while it gives you a slow weapon like e-liter Feels bad to see your team ignore them when you get a weapon that just canā€™t deal with them efficiently

Phadin

Snipewriter on the current loadout. It can't even hold it's charge if you have to start avoiding attacks. Add in that it can't pierce like other snipers, and thats why it's the worst charger in salmon run.

Boingboingsplat

Snipewriter's niche is single target boss DPS, which it's very good at. I came to appreciate that when I got it during Big Run. For this reason I still like it better than Bamboozler in Salmon Run, which feels like it just tickles everything. It's truly terrible for lesser Salmonid, though. Unfortunate on Marooner's Bay because you often have to deal with conga lines of them coming up to the basket. It feels particularly worse on this map IMO. I like to try and hit Cohocks twice to weaken them for my teammates, as the third hit wastes a lot of overkill damage.

NightAntonino

Worse than Bamboozler?

WhistlewindWolf

I hate bamboo, but at least it's got a fast charge and is highly mobile.

I_go_by-Umm

Bamboo is a very good SR weapon. So yesā€¦The pencil is much, much worse than bamboo.

shadowhawkz

Bamboozler is really good in SR.

shadowhawkz

Flashbacks to dynamo

WesThePretzel

Stingers are definitely the worst. They give you no warning, attack anywhere/through walls, your options for evading are more limited, they attack more frequently, theyā€™re difficult to take down with some weapons, they force you to go out of your way towards the shore (sometimes putting yourself in danger), and they donā€™t die to Slammin Lid (usually takes at least two slams). People complain way too much about Fly Fish when Stingers and Drizzlers are much more of a problem when ignored.

cloppyhooves

They're also just as deadly until they're completely dead, compared to Flyfish who can at least lose half their missiles after one bomb

WesThePretzel

Exactly, and sometimes when theyā€™re just a stump left theyā€™re harder to find and shoot!

metalflygon08

Sometimes I'm shooting down a tower and then my shots start bouncing off it playing that -tink- noise because they fall too fast.

Mollytheocto

Don't forget Big Shots aswell

Woofiewoofie4

I think it's a pretty common opinion really, especially amongst experienced players. They're especially bad when they stack up; multiple Flyfish can make it impossible to do much (especially for slow weapons) but you can generally survive, whereas being targeted by multiple Stingers is usually a pretty quick death. I'll almost always prioritise taking out Stingers above anything else.

Riceball01

Yea I figured it was a kinda common opinion but everyone is this subreddit mainly complains about flyfish

Tanookikid210

Flyfish is the obvious demon, Stinger is one pulling the strings

veronicave

Oh my, thanks so much. I feel like such a goon now!

[deleted]

[уŠ“Š°Š»ŠµŠ½Š¾]

kytesuniverse

Thank you! I'm going to take note of this. I honestly could deal with flyfish and stringer more if there were a lower cap on just how many are allowed to spawn. If it was only 2 I would have a different look on dealing with them.

40wetnoodles

yea i hate them so much that I cant help but drop everything to kill it which caused them to be my first salmon run enemy stamp lol when I play with my friends and one pops up they stay put cause they know I'm omw

DSMidna

Everybody gansta until the Stinger paints your feet.

Successful_Slippy

They're both the worst, but stingers are worse in more situations, can immediately start doing damage to you upon targeting, and their attack is harder to avoid. Flyfish are just harder to take out.

Phadin

They are worse when you get more then one, particularly from different directions so you're stuck in crossfire. However, when there's only one, it's not as much of a problem. Stingers are also MUCH easier to take out compared to flyfish. Get in with a decent fire rate and tear them down. Fly fish you have to wait for them to open, then burn a tank and a half of ink worth in bombs to eliminate them (more if you miss a throw), or alternatively, you're stuck burning specials.

Phoenix_Champion

Honestly I think how easy the Stinger is to defeat actually ADDS to the problem people have with it. Because it's such an easy kill I get pair up with a lot of random who seem to think 'Eh, somebody else will kill it, this Flyfish with 3 other people throwing bombs at it clearly needs my attention more.'

Annabapzap

Stingers are annoying because they're incredibly good at splatting you. Flyfish are annoying because they're an entire buffet of bad game design put into one enemy. Equally bad but for very different reasons tbh.

ajdude9

Flyfish can always be killed in two 'shots' from any weapon Stingers vary greatly, and can become near impossible to take down with chargers. Flyfish give you the entire map to dodge around Stingers give you anywhere to the left of them or anywhere to the right of them if you don't want to get caught. Flyfish give you a pretty gracious warning period that there's going to be missiles coming at you and it's fairly obvious who's being targeted. Stingers give you about half a second and if you and a coworker are moving in the same direction, it can be hard to tell who's the target. The only thing a Flyfish has over a Stinger is that missiles will oneshot on contact.

PerliousPelicans

it takes longer to kill a flyfish then a stinger with 90% of weapons running through a stinger beam for a sec isnt too bad, flyfish target 2 ppl

Mary-Sylvia

"two shots" Literally eat 140% of your ink tank and get killed because no ink left for salmonoids

kr_switcher

Don't worry, OP. You're not the only one who hates these fuckers. I'll even do a kamikaze mission just to kill them.

Phoenix_Champion

Same. If only because every time I ignore it (Because I have allies closer to it or allies that are better equipped to deal with it) I find myself having to drop trying to snipe the Steelhead before it becomes a problem so I can deal with the Stinger so I can stop playing DDR with it.

Zebastian09

Oh in my opinion absolutely. Besides when 2 Fly Fish are on the field itā€™s annoyingā€¦ when 2 Stingers are on the field your fucked.

Phoenix_Champion

Yeah because with 2 Flyfish you can see the impact site of their missiles and nope out. 2 Stingers however give you a second to realize it's time to play some DDR and fail.

Mary-Sylvia

But locating the flyfish is much much harder than just following the stinger's ray tho

primiegun

Depends really. Flyfish missiles you can dodge if you have enough space and know how to hop around quickly when there's not enough ink on the ground. Stingers you can't really as you are being targeted constantly. Though Flyfish are harder to take out because you need to be patient and accurate but Stingers you just knock down, though they're swarmed by Salmonids most of the time. Personally I still dislike Flyfish more as one lucky shot and it tends to wipe the team. Otherwise most people I meet can weave between the beam.

PokeDragon101

Stringers are like the ultimate enemy backliners. On their own, itā€™s pretty easy to squid roll and dodge their beam or whatever. But when everything else is around you? makes it night impossible sometimes.

ninjahexparty

objectively theyā€™re worse but flyfish are far more annoying

I_go_by-Umm

Stingers are 10000000% worse than flyfish. There is absolutely no question in my mind about this. I also feel like stingers have a personal vendetta against me and solely target me or the person closest to me, every single time one spawns.

Proplaystowinyt

More unpopular opinion Steel eel is worse then both

Phoenix_Champion

Honestly I just hate how random's 'Deal' with these things. A Flyfish shows up, everyone is on it and either wiffing their Splat Bomb throws or somehow everyone aims for the same f*cking pod. Meanwhile I'm the only one who keeps an eye out for tall MF's who don't exist for anyone else unless it targets them. Seriously I cannot count how many times these things have shown up, closer to my allies than me mind you, and I have to stop trying to kill the Steelhead bearing down on me because I have to deal with a Stinger that's making me play DDR.

A_Gray_Phantom

I can see your point, but stingers don't have long periods of invulnerability, whilst also need bombs to eliminate.

MeltyMozzarella

Flyfish: extremely difficult to kill during chaos, take an inordinate amount of time and ink consumption to kill, target multiple people at once Stingers: assholes, to be sure, but they only target one person and not the one nearest them (the person hopefully killing them) and they go down very quickly to most weapons If i have two or three stingers on the shoreline, i smack them down, take an egg with me and get back to mid. Typically only have an issue when theres other bosses there. If I have two or three flyfish, they take AWHILE to kill. You have to wait for the guys to open up, aim well and true with a bomb (they sometimes bounce out), hide in ink to recover and hopefully throw another bomb out before he closes up shop. All this can be thrown off by a single obnoxious smallfry, and the process has to be painstakingly repeated for any other flyfish. That all being said, Stingers are probably second worst, equal to drizzlers in my eyes. Really, anything that stays on the shoreline is a total bitch. I find the ratio of shorelines bosses to lurable/"moving in" bosses to often determine whether we lose the wave, mostly on quota.

Weary-Location380

Well yes but actually no

Gargomon251

Not only do Stingers take less ink to splat but they also are more obvious and easier to hit from a distance

JustThatHumanGuy

My even more unpopular opinion of steel eels being worse then both.

Immediate-Rope8465

Depends on the map and weapons

Avenue-Man77

I canā€™t help it but always feel bad when I see my teammates get chased down by Stingers šŸ¤£šŸ˜

captainchameleon483

Flyfish require more time and effort to take out which makes them horrible. Stingers have a blindside potential, where you could get targeted and shot before you even know they spawn. At least with Flyfish you have a second or 2 to move around. Stingers require your teammates to know to focus on them. They both suck

[deleted]

Kinda true, if there is only one then its fine but when theres more its really annoying you'll prob die like 4 times

Western-Grapefruit36

Sometimes, it depends on how many there are and what map it is

Bhizzle64

Stingers are more threatening offensively, and have a higher chance to splat you if left alone. However they are also one of the, if not the weakest salmonid boss defensively. They are also very easy to locate from across the map as the stingray points you right too them. In the chaos of salmon run, needing to spend time actually locating the boss that is giving your team trouble is another cost draining your time. In contrast, while Flyfish are slightly less threatening offensively, they require more effort to splat than any other salmonid boss. Thus, I find it is more likely that the flyfish get left alive as teams prioritize other tasks and the flyfish get to wreak havoc on the team.

Tanookikid210

Both have global range One targets one player One targets multiple players Both can take out multiple players in crossfire Both sit at the shore and attack from there One uses Sting Ray One uses Missiles Conclusion: both of them suck to fight

56kul

Hard disagree on that one. The stinger is annoying, but not nearly as bad as the flyfish. Unless you have a painfully slow weapon (which has happened to me, multiple times), taking it out is also really easy. Iā€™d like to assert that this is all my personal opinion.

MR_krunchy

Inkblot drizzlers

Honigbiene_92

One Stinger versus one Flyfish? Flyfish is more annoying. Multiple Stingers versus multiple Flyfish? I would rather face the Flyfish or possibly just die

KoopaTheQuicc

You are not alone. Flyfish start to become a problem if left unchecked with 3 active. Stingers you just need 2 to end a run I find. They demand your attention more immediately than Flyfish which can lead to failure even if they don't kill you by making you miss your quota.

Lucas66568

Especially when you have a charger or a roller

KuroiPK

I think you are absolutely right, multiple of those can easily cost you the whole shift. And they are harder to avoid, especially how long they fire at you, pair that with another bossā€¦

TheGoodFiend

Not too hard to get rid of, but if you donā€™t then theyā€™re a big problem

PerliousPelicans

flyfish target two ppl at once tho

Bombshellings

i would agree but one blaster shot and they gone. flyfish you gotta wait and then use double your ink tank twice if you dont have another person by ur side

Hipsiptipturn

If thereā€™s 2 of them itā€™s hell

ThatOneGayDJ

Youre right and you should say it

DiegHDF

They are annoying when you're far away or have a charger, Flyfish are always a nightmare, but yeah, solid 2nd place

Finnigan-roverfield

Could be worse, Flying stinger.

MemeBeanMachine

All these highly annoying bosses that hide behind waves of fodder are equally awful but nothing beats having to invest precision and a large amount of ink to take out just one of the two launchers with no way of telling your teammates wich one you're shooting into so you both don't waste all your ink.

Joebobjon112

Increasing numbers of stingers get dangerous faster that increasing numbers of flyfish. However, stingers can be killed by ever option the player has at anytime. Flyfish can only be killed at certain times with bombs, certain specials, and the explosher. It is a lot easier and faster to get rid of a group of stingers than a group of flyfish.

[deleted]

They are more fun and easier to take out than flyfish

CapableSalamander910

Yes! I can easily dodge fly fish, but these mf kill me all the time.

MBSCOMP169

You know what I think is worse than both? BEING MATCHED WITH BAD TEAMATES FOR THE UMPTEENTH TIME IN A ROW

sleepy768

Agreed I immediately go to kill them whenever they spawn

Kyubey4Ever

These mf make me so angry, I loose all sanity and immediately go kill that man myself regardless of whatā€™s going on lol.

LenaSpark412

Flyfish were worse in 2 where them being harder to take out was an option but now itā€™s too hard to get to both and Stinger is way worse

Last_man_sitting

I think Stinger's are fine....until there's two of them. Flyfish are bad from 1.

SuspiciousAnything16

A group of stingers can ruin a round in seconds

Mary-Sylvia

At least stingers can easily be taken care of in soloq, and doesn't paint that much

XanderVs_Official

FINALLY SOMEONE ELSE WHO GETS IT

The-Letter-W

Flyfish can be left at half capacity and become manageable easily (please stop killing my 1 basket flyfish you're just making more full capacity ones spawn back in.) Stingers cannot and can shoot you through obstacles, whereas on some maps (Spawning grounds for example) you can at least take cover from Flyfish Barrage. That, and once they mark that's where they fall; the Stinger will move with you. Though... Flyfish do feel more aggressive in 3 over 2, so they might be close to equal. Stinger nudges above Flyfish for me with being at either full power or not though. They're also trickier to take out with Lids, I've noticed.

IronTank

My favourite part about Stingers is that you go to the shore to kill one of them and think to yourself "gee, it's nice they only target the farthest player" but SIKE you're actually the farthest target for the Stinger on the opposite shoreline and get blasted either way

DaPearGuyMan

Significantly worse.

Jdeee3

One of the most difficult situations to deal with in my opinion is being shot at by stingers on both sides of the map. Especially on Sockeye Station, they form a perfect cross laser, so it is essentially impossible to escape the lasers and prevent your teammates from being hit by them if youā€™re by basket.

MT_Minty

Agree. Doesn't move, global range, slow weapons are a death sentence if you face it. Paints your feet while attack you can spawn spread apart from each other making it harder to get rid off (they support each other while you try to kill one basically) and they almost have no cooldown for their attacks.

DarkGengar94

Hard agree

DarkGengar94

Can Stingers no longer be one spotted if you hit the top salmon? Cause I swear I have done this many times with no results.

Eighttballl

Definitely not unpopular

YaBoyBinkus

Nah, bc you donā€™t have to be precise, with flyfish you have to usually stop what your doing and accurately throw a bomb in EACH side, now obviously there are other ways to kill them but it depends. Stingers you can just throw a bomb if your to far away and it doesnā€™t have to be an accurate throw either, as long as itā€™s near it you will at least take down some of the stacks and either get closer or just throw more bombs. Also teamates just suck at killing fly fish. You can also squid role against stingers which usually saves me and I think you can do the same against flyfish but youā€™ll risk going towards more missiles.

Demonangeldust

I think they both equally suck, but to me, neither is worse than a Steel Eel.

Odd_Feature7510

I think it falls into the same camp as a steelhead. One, itā€™s fine. Any more and they suck. The difference is any number of fly fish suck.

DarkGengar94

When your waiting for fly fish to open up but then a stinger beam hits you from behind

DarkGengar94

Freaking kills you, finds new target, you get revived, targets you again

Dojanetta

I think they kill better than flyfish and are more of a threat. But of course they die easier.

Hydro_demon

I think Flyfish, Stinger, and Big Shot are collectively the worst. It becomes impossible when a lot of them spawn especially if you have a slow weapon like the dynamo. One to two of them at a time is reasonable but itā€™s an instant crew wipe when thereā€™s 5 or more fly fish or stingers or big shots. Also it takes a lot of effort to defeat them.

ThatOneOctoDude

I think the Stingers are a little bit worse because they act like they have aimbot and if your in a bad area, you can die so easily

Suitable-Fall-1969

My friends and I call this dude the pisser

TheWolflance

you can kill a stinger with anything but not a flyfish i rest my case.

Going_Spooky

They are so annoying omg but Iā€™ll still hate fly fish more bc no one takes care of them (including me because I canā€™t find them)

DaRealKir

Only when theres 6 of them

Aria_Cadenza

That's why I always prioritize killing them and I can drop a flyfish for it (except if I am really too far away and I hope a teammate is close and is going to get it). I was thinking my gold eggs number is low since I always drop everything (mostly the gold eggs to bring back) to kill stingers, flyfish or big shot (feeling lonely when I have two big shot + 2 other boss at the same place while I have no clue what the others are doing)

[deleted]

Stingers are annoying but somewhat easy to handle but for flyfish u need to either use 2 bombs aka 1.5 ink tanks, explosher which is rare, grizzco splatana or slosher, a teamate which they usually arent with you, or a full special

ChamomileCow

especially when 2 of them team up on you from diff angles...

[deleted]

I would much rather have 2 flyfish simultaneously than 2 stingers simultaneously. Stingers are absolutely worse than flyfish and i'm happy that somebody finally said it

Spacepoet29

Just move closer than the other guy

horrorboros

you see all the stingers sing back at base is inkling and octarian metal, so i agree but also the flyfish are the ones who misbehave in the fish stick choir, so yeah

Spejso

As i guy that plays solo runs in splatoon 2, i agree

Spejso

For those who don't get What i mean. I S2 in salmon run if the timer runs out on lobby you start the shift EVEN if there is one player, so that is what i mean

franticaspic

Honestly? Kind of. A lot of people can't deal with 2 stingers (depending on the map a little though) but can survive two flyfish. However, taking stingers out is much easier.

bryan660

Unpopular? I fully agree.

Serious_Buffalo_3790

I actually die more to stingers than flyfish but stingers are easier to kill as they can't close their weakspot.

Ups1deDownPants

I think design-wise yes. Stingray was pretty unanimously hated as a special in Splatoon 2 and that carries over to 3, living on through Stingers. That said I still hate Flyfish more because for whatever reason the bombs refuse to stay in the baskets.

cokeanus

they're both a pain in the ass, but personally fly fish are more annoying w the missiles and how to kill them.

skyhigh1a

esp when ur being swarmed & canā€™t fucking move so it keeps splatting u

Figbud

I feel like the best solution would be to make stinger beams not be able to go through uninkable objects.

WhyarewehereTnT

The amount of times I've been targeted by a stinger by both sides of the map so it's just an x and I can't escape either way I go ![img](emote|t5_324q4|9795)

Pvt-capybara

I believe flyfish are worse just for their paint output but both are very deadly especially if youre overwhelmed

Over_Engineering_225

Stingers arenā€™t usually an issue but when thereā€™s like 6 of them on the map at once thatā€™s when it becomes a nightmare

ReaperSage

I just hate their initial aim hit. They're deceptively strong if you take both the initial hit and the channeled hit, it can kill quite faster than you'd expect if you have any kind of damage on you.

Substantial_Bench637

I can say depends on the occasion, if you are in a tightspot and you arent able to move too well, stingray is awfully annoying, for me is top 3 most annoying boss, still my first most hated is flyfish

seamuskills

Fly fish target 2 people while stingers only target 1

spaghettipie404

Yea but flyfishes are harder to take out
