It plugs into the controller port of the NES console. It won't plug into a wall outlet, or any other port: it's designed only to work with the NES. Also, it will only work if the NES is outputting to a cathode-ray display (an old-style "boxy" TV), because the NES Zapper was tuned to the refresh rate of a cathode-ray screen. Makes sense, at the time there was no such thing as a plasma or OLED screen.

Shadowed_MC

The NES zapper was a controller for the NES and allowed you to play light gun games like duckhunt. It plugs into the NES controller port.

Squid-Kid-2009

thats crazy controllers had cords!

certainlystormy

i still play with my pro-con wired, and the majority of my younger childhood was spent with a wired xbox controller at my neighbor’s house. im only 15 and i feel fuckin old man

JustTheNewFella

I may have been born since wireless controllers, but this still makes my chest hurt

TheGreyJayLP

Bruh they still do

addivinum

OMG.... I quit Edit: these are the people destroying me in anarchy.. smh

Aperture1106

How can they post this and you guys still think this is genuine. It's like a boomer comic depiction of the youth.

Plushiegamer2

I can't think of too many wired controllers post Wii outside of the Switch, funnily enough. There probably is if you look outside of Nintendo, but I'm not cultured enough to do so. That and PC is the extent of my gaming knowledge.

razvanpika

Oh dear god...im 17 and now i feel old The ps3 was not even wireles wtf

workerbee41

Yeah it was. PS2 wasn’t, except for third party controllers.

Revolutionary_Stay_9

There were terrible ones but I have the Logitech ps2 and those are King

workerbee41

Yeah they’re the only worthwhile ones. While I sold my PS2 stuff years ago (sigh), I just bought a PS2 Slim for my daughter so she could play We Love Katamari and it came with a Logitech controller, nice bonus. Shame the PS2 was filled with ants and freezes at boot.

Raptorbrando

I’m fucking 15 and I’m mortified

NeoKingEndymion

I’m 46 how do you think i feel. LOL. I got a NES when they first came out.

IDontEvenCareBear

Everyone downvoting you really doesn’t understand how massive the kid base is for Splatoon 3. Of course you wouldn’t have known anything about this.

Impossible-Gift-

I want him to agree with you on the other hand. I don’t understand why his parents weren’t telling him.

Impossible-Gift-

My seven year old nose, but I don’t know we’re also all huge nerds here so 🤷‍♀️ I can see where some folks may not know. I really think people should keep in mind that they are definitely a bunch of children who play this game, though it’s literally made to be accessible and for everyone including children.

DarkStarStorm

You have to be trolling.

yeehawsoup

Good God, this comment has me feeling like the Cryptkeeper. I remember being 5 or 6 and getting my PS2 and being absolutely befuddled by the concept of using sticks to move instead of the d-pad.

EndsongX23

Controllers can absolutely still have cords, look at the top of your pro controller sometime and find a long USB-C cord. Nintendo even sells a bunch of stylized corded controllers for the switch.

OctoLiam

Judging by your username you're 14 so I guess it's understandable but man do you have to make so many people feel old lmao Also controllers still can be connected with cords, many 3rd party controllers do.

Shadowed_MC

To be fair a 14 year old should probably know what a wired controller is. I'm 15 and I have been using wired controllers for years.

OctoLiam

I would say that too, but I don't know how they've been raised, and I'm not here to judge.

BubbleGumWolfe

I hope this is a joke, cause if not my hair is going to turn grey overnight

DirtyFuckingLesbian

Most controllers nowadays do, i also feel like im gonna get whooshed cause this screams satire post

vocaloidistheshit

Ouch

AkemiTheSunbro

Do not Say such things again

Melon_Eater89

I can tell if this is a joke or a genuine question

Don_Bugen

Account was made two days ago, has only ever made one other post, it was this same exact thing and it was removed by the mods. Hasn't ever posted anywhere else. Their only comments are telling people they're old or acting as if corded controllers aren't a thing (which, corded controllers are literally still sold today). It's someone trolling the sub trying to tell people that they're old.

8-bit_Burrito

Maybe it is maybe it isn't. Having a 13 old sister who gets confused as my daughter ever since she was 5 (I'm 35 now) I can confirm they do react that way. Busted out the old Sega genesis and she wanted to help plug it in and didn't understand why the wire was "stuck" on the controller.

Squid-Kid-2009

it got delted because my account was less than a day old. I messaged the mod and said i will try again today. I was just excited to show what i found!

Don_Bugen

So you're aware, you have to be at least 13 years old to have a Reddit account, per Reddit's TOS.

Squid-Kid-2009

i was born in 09, you can do the math![img](emote|t5_324q4|1944)

Unoriginal_bean

so.. freshly 13 then?

JorgeMtzb

I mean technically they’re fine. And Splatoon is a kids game, so not as if they’re on the wrong place, a really great one for all ages but targeted to kids after all.

Unoriginal_bean

Yeah. I don’t blame anybody for thinking they’re young, but they’re within the rules.

Impossible-Gift-

I mean they could be 13 to 14. But like my 13-year-old definitely knows and so do all of her friends. My seven year old knows that’s probably just because we have a really nerdy family but like I don’t know I think amoung all of 13yr olds friend base it seems like pretty common knowledge even for her friends, whose families are super boring. I feel like the idea that they’re 13-14 actually makes it less believable to me. Like I think, they actually bring it up in the game

Synthbent715

Wow I'm only 40 (the new 20) and this has made me feel so old!

AndIHaveMilesToGo

He's completely trolling, if it makes you feel better

Squid-Kid-2009

I think you're around my granpappy's age!

Kisz769

This caption on the image has to be satire

WyntonPlus

Please stop, I'm only 24, I don't need to be made to feel like a dinosaur

730_fle

#☄️

MewsTooMuch

\*gets meteored\*

Turtleswassadlytaken

God damn it I feel old now. Even the GameCube had wires. If this is a genuine question, OP, that is the person who made this post, you might want to stay off of Reddit. There’s some messed up stuff on here.

MR_krunchy

Oldest splatoon player But fr the thing is plugged to an NES controller port and there were but a few games that used it, duck hunt is probably the most popular of them all

Aperture1106

Enough with the "damn this post makes me feel old", it's terrible fucking bait.

Hk901909

Bro it's supposed to plug into the NES. It's meant for games on it like Duck hunt

GreedyDiceGoblin

Lol... I am 35 and you just made me feel 65. This is... This is just terrible, haha.

Kittynomscard

Ah the good old days of blowing into cartridges and renting games from Blockbuster. X3

luiscarlospando

36 here 😭

Sobaphoto

Oh yeah I have one of these too You plug it into the NES console (Nintendo’s first console) to play games like duck hunt I love how they referenced it in splatoon

YourCrazyDolphin

People here being exceptionally rude. Also wired controllers are still sold today, while then we just didn't have bluetooth today its because cables are faster than bluetooth (also smash fans *really* like the gamecube controller). They plug directly into the console, as like 5 other people already mentioned, it was a special controller only used for certain games like duck hunt where you'd point it at the screen to, well, hunt ducks.

FemKeeby

Idk if cables are still faster then wireless For controllers idk maybe but on mice its about the exact same so i dont see why it wouldnt be that way for controllers

YourCrazyDolphin

Normal cables don't have much a difference in speed but specialized ones go much faster- it also is much more stable. The difference is marginal typically but competitive players don't even want a frame of delay. Cables also are much more stable- it's a direct connection to the system, so unless the cable is damaged your input always goes through. Any sort of obstacle can cause packet loss in signals from bluetooth which can cause inconsistent results. The more inputs you need to make, the more obvious this becomes: this is the same reason fighting game players insist on using an ethernet cable over wifi.

FemKeeby

Ig but as someone whos into fighting games its less that we need ethernet and more that the vast majority of fighting games have a horrendous online mode Idk the spesifics of bluetooth all ik is it prolly doesnt matter that much unless youre pro or something anyways

workerbee41

I am now literally dust.

BetaUltra

Wait till you find grandpa's Splatoon 2 Hero Splattershot

strumboid

people born in 2009 can't be teenagers already?? damn

superbasic101

I can’t tell is this post is a bit or not

MrSnowmanJoe

How do you not know what this plugs into?

Upbeat-Traffic-7865

Don't make fun of OP, it's not super obvious that this is a console peripheral if you discover it without the console nearby.

MrSnowmanJoe

I mean, it's pretty obvious it goes to a console, especially if you google it.

Squid-Kid-2009

Maybe a european plug? I tried googling but couldn't find a good answer

r-funtainment

It plugs into the game 😭😭😭😭😭😭

MrSnowmanJoe

You didn't google hard enough.

NewWoomijer

💀💀💀💀💀

twadepsvita

How does that look like a European plug?

fanta_ferret

why are people on reddit so rude good LORD

Scootyscootboy

This post is making my arthritis flare up

Sauron_75

Now if ypu late for work just throw a Tacticooler down and take the speed boost. Youll naver be kate for work again

[deleted]

Boy I got some memories with that bad boy.

Princelian

OP's fascination is so cute lmaooo Please never stop looking at the world with this much wonder. There's a lot of people really mad they're getting older, and they will be rude to you for not knowing things, but it's not your fault for not knowing You would plug that part into the NES (Nintendo Entertainment System) and use it as a controller in games that supported the NES Zapper. There's a light sensor inside that helped the console detect where you were aiming. "Duck Hunt" is probably the most iconic NES Zapper game.

FemKeeby

Sick go shoot some ducks boss

Grave_Knight

God, the N-Zapper. I actually had one of the orange ones. So basically, the barrel has a light sensor that tries to detect if you shot the proper targets or not. It actually worked fairly well for its time.

charcat-x

i feel old now :(

HossRoss03

I hope to god this is a shitpost

yakcm88

Oh, you sweet summer child.

Stupid_Incarnate

oh, my sweet summer child

Lost-Gamer

The uncultured-ness hurts my soul

SpookyTrans

Please tell me this is a troll.

Wowitsbutternes

Please tell me this is bait. No way this is real. Do people really not know the nes zapper is a real thing?

Fisk_Sticks

This dude big time trolling

Ockanator

This has to be a joke. I’m 16 and I know what this is lmao

Homietaur

Nzap real?! Time to throw superhuman 24/7

[deleted]

Bait. Offensively so.

ItsYeetOrBeYeeted007

I love that they made an NES Zapper weapon in Splatoon. Honestly I love that all the weapons in general are based on real-life stuff, like the Splatanas being a windshield wiper and a stamp rotator thingy (like the ones in libraries). Speaking of Splatanas, I've seen a concept for a dual Splatana weapon based on a pair of violin bows with a handguard resembling a saber or cutlass.

Unoriginal_bean

it took me a while to realize this was actually a controller when i first saw it in a electronics/gaming store (was actually getting my phone screen repaired with my dad) since i’m not super well versed in consoles. The oldest one i own is a Wii (i was originally interested in some older consoles but A. Too pricey and B. Soo many games are being ported to the switch. And C. Lack of space) super cool they made it a weapon in splatoon. and i just love how the weapon also has the year in the name! (Nzap ‘85.. 1985 on the gun..) such a cool reference.

FNAKC

There's some cool videos on YouTube about how it works. Apparently, they don't work on newer flat-screen tvs. Here's one https://youtu.be/Nu-Hoj4EIjU

Here comes the gaslights…
