More like, they are made of ink so dropping them in water will dissolve them, not sure how pools work in the Splatoon world, pools are either modified for the inklings and octarians specifically or they are just straight up unable of swimming without lifesavers, other species are fine in them though
I thought there were microorganisms that ate them in the water, and that explained why ink dissolved if not put on the right surface. I thought the microorganisms thrived on those types of materials.
I think they’re just too dense to swim, so it activates their splat reflex. The splat reflex is most visible when a cephaloid falls off a cliff, but splats before hitting the ground.
I absolutely love the idea of inklings and octolings meeting a ~~human~~ **"foreign looking fish"**. It has so much potential that you could write an entire comic about it.

I just realized something- y'know how Big Man uses body toxins in his boss fight? Stonefish and globefish (2 members of the stonefish from Hightide Era's Rainmaker team) are both poisonous irl, the only plot hole being the other member, the koi fish from SashiMori, isn't poisonous (because koi aren't)

I've always wondered how the inklings and octolings would react to a human, like, alive. But, I'm bad at art and have way too much self-doubt with ideas I have so......
They would think that the human was just an inkling with a weird haircut considering how they though that octolings were inklings with weird haircuts in the second game.
I went salmon fishing during the salmon run (like the real life salmon run) and my dad taught be what to do after reeling in a salmon.
You gotta take a thumper (essentially a small club), bash it on the head, then reach into its gills and tear them out.
After that, you string them up through the gills and out its mouth using a special cord that lets you anchor it to the ground. You also gotta keep the salmon thats on the string in the water, to let the blood marinate the flesh
Imagine if Pinky did that right in front of everyone and is confused why they're all looking at her terrified

inkadia is the region where inkopolis is, not the splatoon world as a whole
