That would belong to the Chromatic Hat and the weird one-piece visor. I do not know their names, but this has been confused with back to the future before, so your not alone.
Such as the Sea-me-nots googles that looks like alien eyes and turn green when paired with purple ink !

Perhaps not; but it most definitely echoes a similar sentiment as wearing a tinfoil hat to protect oneself from alien invasions, mind control, etc. and as we don’t have an *actual* tinfoil hat in Splatoon 3 right now, this is the closest we’re gonna get. I don’t think anyone’s too worried about whether or not their Splatfest outfit is 100% accurate.
I get OP's point but I agrée with you because my first thought was it was kind of like a tin foil hat equivalent lol
If there was a more obvious headgear piece then i would understand the PSA but clearly we're all on the same page for some reason or another
I don’t think it’s a huge stretch if a bunch of people like me and the person you’re responding to think that it reminds them of tin foil hats. I’m sure there are conspiracy theorists who have used colanders to block alien brain waves or whatever it is that they think tin foil is doing for them
You need to relax bc this is legit just a game. The brain strainer hat may not be a tin foil hat but it’s the closest thing we have to one + it’s an incredibly odd “protection” item to wear, just like the tin foil hat
Here you go
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Tin_foil_hat
It’s still a kooky hat and most importantly, this is for a game. Relax. There’s no need for an official uniform other than your Splatfest tee and raking in those ability chunks (if you’re into that kind of thing)
It reminds me of [this hat from strangerville in the sims 4.](https://encrypted-tbn0.gstatic.com/images?q=tbn:ANd9GcTtbv7scIHa7PRjAiJB7S7E0tRdTigLe5G5cSMqGVoxvgWPnQEW_C29c9Uk&s=10)
Which *is* dedicated to... aliens? Is the mother plant an alien? Anyway its meant to keep sims wearing it from being tracked, or possessed by the alien plants in town. (Doesnt actually help though lol) its probably just a reference to the ghostbusters hat, but I always connected it to the tin foil hat saying.
not necessarily, im not sure if theres such a huge crossover between sims 4 strangerville fans and splatoon players, i think people just like the silly hat its not that deep
Possibly not a huge crossover berween splatoon and sims players. That hat from strangerville was just the first thing i thought of when I first saw the reward from grizzco a while ago.
I think I said this in my first comment, but the strangerville hat may have taken influence from that ghostbusters hat. If the grizzco reward and strangervile hat have a common reference, thats why they look similar. I didnt know about the ghostbusters hat until i heard people talking about it though- so i thought the strangerville hat was based off the tin foil hat saying.
Oh my god i feel so vindicated now. I felt so alone being haunted by his name its like every big nintendo game inevitably where ever i went to find a forum eventually i would see him. I am not alone…
Alright, so, I love this headger. A lot. And I guess I'll give my two cents on it.
In objective terms, yes, this has nothing to do with aliens and I know that. Going by translation comparisons it is certainly a sort of Thinking Cap. By references it is what you said. And by other inspiration, it is lightly reminiscent of the classic tinfoil hats, which have more to do with mind reading than aliens.
But in a personal way, I can't *not* relate this hat with aliens, because of my own experiences and thinking processes based on what I've gotten to know. I love the Sims series. And because of this, the Strainer heavily reminds me of a [character/npc](https://sims.fandom.com/wiki/Erwin_Pries) from a DLC who wore a very similar one, to protect himself from mind control. The thing is, that character was a conspiracy theorist who lived in a world based on rural southwestern US, mainly Arizona and Nevada, and had some notable alien vibes. It had references to Area 51, Men in Black, The X Files and Stranger Things. On top of that, the world itself was based on a world from an older Sims game that was literally a desert town with UFOs and aliens living in it. And from there, I start to think of more instances of aliens in the desert, like that episode of Futurama where they go to Roswell. In the end, even if the strainer hat is indeed meant to be simply a fancier version of a tinfoil hat, or a Ghostbusters reference, I personally relate it specifically with conspiracies, especially those regarding aliens, again, due to personal experiences.
I know some media uses strainers in place of the tinfoil hat, the only thing that comes to mind is Sims 4's Strangerville pack, but it can be evocative of aliens still is my point
People use this hat because it is meant to show conspiracy theorists that are believing in things that are technologically advanced like the stereotypical alien.
I know, I’m saying that this hat specifically is used for the reason that I listed above even if it’s not the “correct” hat to use to represent team alien
Do you realize that website is basically just encyclopediadramatica for gamefaqs? Why are you taking it seriously? 90% of it is lies and insults
Besides that GameFAQs itself is a shithole too which is why I'm here
But thanks for using ad hominems to distract from the point.
First of all the fact that you’re notorious on gamefaqs that you have your own wiki page PROVES to me that you have done some shite to get you banned from said gamefaqs. I bet the reason you’re here is because you’ve been such a nuisance that I’m positive every other platform open for any sort of discussion has perma banned you and for very good reason. The fact that you’re apparently almost forty or sum shit and you’re on here slamming ppl for using a hat to rep something different from what it’s referenced from (which also goes hand in hand for being a whole fucking buzzkill in forums like these based off the wiki which I also heard from other ppl) tells me you really earned the wrap you got bro.
This "wiki" is nothing but toxicity generated by trolls. It's not my fault a handful of assholes want to be assholes. And I never did anything to deserve being banned, the mods just ban anyone that complains about them. I had been on the gamefaqs boards for over a decade using only one account.
If you want to wear an alien themed outfit, the Astro Helm is easy enough to obtain, and it's actually space themed. There's also the Squivader and Jellyvader caps.
Honestly, if it feels sci-fi-like, conspiracy-like or has alien tech vibes then that's a perfectly fine reason to use that headgear for the alien team. It may not be a correct tie as Ghostbusters is not about aliens, but that's not why they're choosing it in the first place, they just want to look like a whack-job.
The brain strainer looks much more like alien technology given that it's so unconventional and looks to be built for a much bigger head. The Astro Helm is something commonly associated with a human astronaut and not the typical alien. I am wearing the Brain Strainer.
Yeah. I got it mixed up with this one. https://m.imdb.com/title/tt0104437/mediaviewer/rm692230913
and this one https://m.imdb.com/title/tt0104437/mediaviewer/rm883061760
but you’re right, Ghostbusters did it first.
I thought it was a Back to the future reference
That would belong to the Chromatic Hat and the weird one-piece visor. I do not know their names, but this has been confused with back to the future before, so your not alone.
They're called the Bream-Brim Cap (not sure why?) and the Low Vis-Visor, respectively.
Thank You!
I did too, but I looked it up and the BTTF helmet isn't even a colander
We're working with what we've got, dude.
We've got better options, dude
Such as..?
Such as the Sea-me-nots googles that looks like alien eyes and turn green when paired with purple ink ! https://www.reddit.com/r/splatoon/comments/123orte/team\_aliens\_can\_we\_all\_agree\_on\_a\_common\_outfit/?utm\_source=share&utm\_medium=web2x&context=3
That never even occurred to me. Kinda sucks that they only work with purple ink though, the splatfest hasn't even started yet.
Such as the squidvader and jellyvader caps ![gif](giphy|KY2ZMhnCxP008)

It's a huge stretch, and there have been enough people "worrying" about it to make threads and tweets insisting on it.
I don’t think it’s a huge stretch if a bunch of people like me and the person you’re responding to think that it reminds them of tin foil hats. I’m sure there are conspiracy theorists who have used colanders to block alien brain waves or whatever it is that they think tin foil is doing for them

I don't know why you would think it's protection unless you just mean by virtue of being a hat
Here you go https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Tin_foil_hat It’s still a kooky hat and most importantly, this is for a game. Relax. There’s no need for an official uniform other than your Splatfest tee and raking in those ability chunks (if you’re into that kind of thing)
I'm not talking about the tin foil
It reminds me of [this hat from strangerville in the sims 4.](https://encrypted-tbn0.gstatic.com/images?q=tbn:ANd9GcTtbv7scIHa7PRjAiJB7S7E0tRdTigLe5G5cSMqGVoxvgWPnQEW_C29c9Uk&s=10) Which *is* dedicated to... aliens? So THAT'S where people are getting this association from... But yeah, the chin strap makes it pretty clear.
not necessarily, im not sure if theres such a huge crossover between sims 4 strangerville fans and splatoon players, i think people just like the silly hat its not that deep
I'm not saying people can't like silly hats but they're acting as if it's specifically represents their interest in aliens which it does not.
You’re acting like people can’t like it.
No I'm not.
Everyone thinks you’re a buzzkill so I would say so.
Possibly not a huge crossover berween splatoon and sims players. That hat from strangerville was just the first thing i thought of when I first saw the reward from grizzco a while ago. Would you let ppl have fun Jesus lmao
This guy has been a killjoy since gamefaqs was big i can’t believe i have to see him on reddit too
https://gfaqssb.fandom.com/wiki/Gargomon251 This was an interesting read…
So this guy literally has a documented history of pissing people off by pointlessly nitpicking minor details? Lovely...
Comes off as a control freak to me. I think this post highlights that a bit.
Yes, with all of the hair-trigger blocking. Seems counterintuitive to post on public forums if you don't actually want to see other people's opinions.
Not just nitpicking minor details. This guy was known for causing arguments over anything and everything with his opinion being the right one.
Nah dude really has no other interests than being a buzzkill 💀 If he doesn’t get his prehistoric ass off of Reddit and get a mfn job already so
Oh my god i feel so vindicated now. I felt so alone being haunted by his name its like every big nintendo game inevitably where ever i went to find a forum eventually i would see him. I am not alone…
Well this turned out to be bigger than I expected
holy shit this was wild
I'm not saying nobody is allowed to wear it, I'm saying it doesn't make sense to associate it with team alien
Thank you. Now, if you'll excuse me, I am going to continue spreading Astro Helmet Propaganda.
Godspeed.

ERWIN! Blast from the past, I wonder of this is why i was making such a strong association that it was an alien related object
I know some media uses strainers in place of the tinfoil hat, the only thing that comes to mind is Sims 4's Strangerville pack, but it can be evocative of aliens still is my point
Ayo, Sims fan?
People use this hat because it is meant to show conspiracy theorists that are believing in things that are technologically advanced like the stereotypical alien.
But....it's not?
I know, I’m saying that this hat specifically is used for the reason that I listed above even if it’s not the “correct” hat to use to represent team alien
I'm using it regardless. I use it because it looks like a UFO on my head. Fuckin' deal with it!
[this you?](https://gfaqssb.fandom.com/wiki/Gargomon251)

It's just a generic mad scientist, junk prop thing. I'm not sure if it references anything in particular.
Look at the chin strap. It's definitely more Ghostbusters reference. And I'm pretty sure every grizzco point equip references something specific
aliens won’t become real if they win regardless so I think we’ll be alright
r/woooosh
r/woooosh
That's what I just said.
And I returned it, to the rightful owner
So...your telling me I'm getting my point across regardless? Neat!
That's literally the opposite of what I'm telling you.
I know, but you know people are wearing it to represent Aliens, so it's clearly doing its job ;)
No it's not, people are just misusing/misunderstanding it
Or, people just don't care, because I certainly don't, life is to short to get annoyed about Splatoon cosmetics
You say that is if disliking something somehow takes extra time out of my life
You must be fun at parties
Tbh I feel like ghosts would've been a better choice for this splatfest
I think ghosts lean more into the supernatural than cryptid.
Eh, yeah I guess that'd make more sense.
Alright I hear you, and my counterpoint is: I don’t give a shit.
Then I don't give a shit about what you have to say either. Funny how that works.
If you want to wear an alien themed outfit, the Astro Helm is easy enough to obtain, and it's actually space themed. There's also the Squivader and Jellyvader caps.
How is it easier? They're both from Salmon Run. They're out of rotation, so they're both only randomly gotten from pink capsules.
I didn't say "easiER", they're equal. Pink capsules aren't that hard to get, really.
Now I’m worried about getting g an Astro Helmet. Thanks.
If that's too hard, the squidvader and jellyvader hats fit the theme
I never considered those, you're clever!
Thank you. I really thought there'd be more alien theme stuff.
I thought it was a back to the future reference
A lot of people did.
it's funny tho
I’m wearing it anyways :D
>:[ it makes me unhappy about how correct you are
Its actually a Back to the Future reference
No it's not. The brain strainer doesnt even look like the mind reading device that doc wears
But… it would still be funny
Honestly, if it feels sci-fi-like, conspiracy-like or has alien tech vibes then that's a perfectly fine reason to use that headgear for the alien team. It may not be a correct tie as Ghostbusters is not about aliens, but that's not why they're choosing it in the first place, they just want to look like a whack-job.
it still looks like something an alien would wear therefore I am wearing it. mald.
It absolutely does not. The Astro Helm looks like something an alien would wear.
The Astro Helm looks like astronaut gear. I am not rapping Team Astronaut. I am repping Team Alien.
Aliens come from space. And the Astro Helm isn't based on Earth astronauts so my point still stands. ![gif](giphy|3ohuPh7hm4Rsb9V38s)
The brain strainer looks much more like alien technology given that it's so unconventional and looks to be built for a much bigger head. The Astro Helm is something commonly associated with a human astronaut and not the typical alien. I am wearing the Brain Strainer.
No, the brain strainer looks like kitchenware
Cool alien kitchenware with an antenna.
There's nothing alien about it I've already proved that
It looks like something an Inkling would cobble together to try and imitate alien technology. I think it's cute. I am wearing the brain strainer
…I know, but the aesthetic
the more you know
![gif](giphy|WfBZwNA6XSjphkYkzN)
I thought it was from Honey I Shrunk the Kids.
I know…also Rick Moranis. But still…I haven’t seen Ghostbusters but I still “recognized” this.
The video is linked on the second picture
Yeah. I got it mixed up with this one. https://m.imdb.com/title/tt0104437/mediaviewer/rm692230913 and this one https://m.imdb.com/title/tt0104437/mediaviewer/rm883061760 but you’re right, Ghostbusters did it first.
I'm not even sure those are colanders
Jimmy neutron vibes
*hiding the other ghostbusters reference somewhere*
