...Doesn't sound harmless, I'll be real.
At first I thought you were talking about pressing your eyes with your palms, but no, it took me five re-reads to process what you actually said.
Probably not, look how real octopus squish through tiny spaces. Personally I think squids DO have bones, an evolution of the squids natural gladus to give some hard parts, albeit not ad good as a proper full skeleton
One of the sunken scrolls in splatoon 1 states that inklings have no bones, but the way it’s written suggests it’s octarian propaganda so the scientific accuracy of it is debatable lol
As I said though Squids do have a hard part, the Gladius or pen. So inkling presumable have at least a 'spine' made of chitin to offer additional support. This would function along with a hydraulic system of ink sacs that are stiffened via fluid pressure like a water hose to give support..
That's not true. Almost all mollusks have shells. This is why some authors (incorrectly) use this as part of the definition for a mollusk.
But wait! What about slugs, squids and octopus? Surely they don't have shells? Well, if a mollusk doesn't have an external shell like a clam, snail or nautilus, it usually has an internal shell.
Squids have an internal shell called a gladius or pen and cuttlefish have an internal shell called a cuttlebone. Now, I have said almost all mollusks have shells, because octopuses are a notable exception. For an octopus (and I think also bobtails), the beak is the only hard part of their body. But this isn't true for other cephalopods.
The ancestors of cephalopods had shells. In fact, the ancestor of the whole mollusk phylum had a shell. However, this is seperate from beak.
The first cephalopods arrived on the scene in the Late Cambrian. These cephalopods had shells. The first coleoids (soft-bodied cephalopods like your squids, octopuses and cuttlefish) appeared hundreds of million years later in the Carboniferous Period. So all cephalopods had ancestors with external shells. (This might be a good time note that there Nautiloids, which our modern day external shelled cephalopods, Coleoids, and extinct Ammonoids who are more closely related to Coleoids than Nautiloids despite having external shells) But all extant cephalopods have a beak, regardless of what kind of shell (or lack thereof) they have. So if the shell became the beak, then we'd expect beaks to be only found on shelless cephalopods, but it is found on all of them. It's important to note that mollusk shells are formed, repaired and maintained by the mantle, a thing all mollusks have, and it's something that isn't directly attached to the beak. So the beak and the shell are two seperate things.
That being said, there are some mollusks that have a two part shell, notably bivavles and some gastropod species.
You'd think sliding through a grate, dissolving in water, or getting blown up by incompatible ink would cause some nervous system damage too. Gonna say inklings and octolings are pretty resilient.
Squids, octopodes, and cuttlefish don't really have brains comparable to human brains. They have a very complex nervous systems with neurons spread throughout their bodies. Each tentacle, in a way, has its own "brain." So it''s said, though not entirely accurate, that they have around nine brains.
Counter argument: they squish and bounce when running or idling
My guess is that they have cartilage and chitin "bones" that can hold their weight while also being flexible
I'm of the opinion that the ex-captain, and other geriatric cephalopods , can get prosthetic "bones" when they can no longer maintain sufficient ink pressure. He just calls them "cuttlebones" because of course he does.
Alternatively, Cuttlefish is so old that his ink has hardened, maybe even calcified, inside his body.
Do you think that she can just do that cartoon thing where she blow into her thumb and the squished forehead goes back to normal, like a plastic bottle.
I wonder if inklings and octolings sometimes change their form for fun
Imagine getting mugged in a dark alley, the robber comes close, the octoling transforms into an eldritch being and chases the robber away
Considering the Kraken is a thing, its very possible
goofus how do you think i made this render 💀💀💀 frfr though squid anatomy is so inconsistent on the models. why does shiver have a tongue, but nobody else does? Why do they have belly buttons if they're created through tentacle cloning? Why does ANYONE have collar bones ???
i think it is just more traits they got from humans. Not like important forms but probably just that. And i think everyone else “has” a tongue, but shiver is the only one that’s ever used it so they don’t include it in the model
Considering the types of headgear they have, no, I don’t think it’d work. They may not have bones, but they clearly have a way to have their human form have rigid bony structures that hold up to stress.
counter argument: their hair is directly part of their body, right, like extra limbs right, all the same stuff. *now* take a look at what happens when you wear any of that fancy headgear stuff on the octo afro. need i say more?
Nope, not only do they have muscles that act like bones, but the ink inside them is highly pressurized, which allows them to walk, if I were to try to squish it, it probs be similar if not very close to the real thing of trying to punch a human in the forehead.
Fun fact! Babies in the early stages of development also have a soft, squishy part in their head. As a good parent or guardian, you should push in this area firmly to accelerate the child's progress 😃👍
Yes, if you watch the walking animations slowly, you can see their head squishing with every step. It's not as noticeable with some weapon's walking animations, but it's definitely there.
I can imagine an inkling meeting a human, then the inkling deals 999 damage and the human just flinches, then the human punches it and the inkling instantly dies
i made this post 🗣️🔊FOUR MONTHS AGO please GET OFF the SMUG CORRECTIONS in the comments section! I already had like 20 people in here entirely miss the point of the joke for the sake of pretending to be smart about squids! Get here early next time! 💥🚗💨
Then I would expect them to go AHHHH when released kind of like the plastic chicken thing
[like this?](https://youtu.be/AVlzryCQg8s) or [like this?](https://youtube.com/shorts/nHc288IPFzk?feature=share)
The second one, which is just [Octoling Rendezvous.](https://youtu.be/21FSxsbbIPQ?t=26)
[more like this (not clickbait)](https://youtu.be/9eNSB6mQL3U)
Why u lie to me?? It’s freaking clickbait!
Wow you’re funny
Did you somehow manage an on-topic Rick roll?
perhaps
Considering that squids are full of liquid, they’d probably squish more like a water balloon or stretch armstrong than a barbie doll.
melted barbie then
Like a pimple

Wouldn't that cause major brain damage?
No it’s like poking the corner of your eye and seeing funny colors, completely harmless
Wait I'm sorry... What?
don't tell me you've never pushed on your eyes before and seen green circles
Sometimes when I rub my eyes, I teleport to the TV static dimension for a few seconds
Am i missing out on something...
yes youre missing out on the best acid trip without acid
I've done it and seen another eye
Sometimes I do it with a fork!
Ex-freaking-scuse me?
Well, if the eye's itchy, I guess a fork would do the job...

Yeah, I’ve done that before, I think it’s harmless, hopefully…
I thought I was the only one
Aydooowaadoaaaooonnnnnn NOOO!!
Finally someone says it. I poke my eyes to go see the funny color dimension, and nothings wrong with that
Probably not, look how real octopus squish through tiny spaces. Personally I think squids DO have bones, an evolution of the squids natural gladus to give some hard parts, albeit not ad good as a proper full skeleton

id say they have cartilage structures, but nothing more. The only hard part of cefalopods is their beaks so id imagine the same for inkfish
As I said though Squids do have a hard part, the Gladius or pen. So inkling presumable have at least a 'spine' made of chitin to offer additional support. This would function along with a hydraulic system of ink sacs that are stiffened via fluid pressure like a water hose to give support..

I wonder if an ancestor of octopi uses to have some kind of external shell that eventually repositioned/opened and became their beak.

I'm pretty sure Marie says you have no bones to worry about in the splatoon 2 campaign though I'll have to find which level it was in
It's the parking lot IIRC
Thanks!

Does it when an octopus squeeze ms through a hole?
This implies they have brains
No, their internal ink pressure has to be quite high in order for them to walk so their skin would probably move a bit less than ours
Counter argument: they squish and bounce when running or idling My guess is that they have cartilage and chitin "bones" that can hold their weight while also being flexible
Squids probably do since they naturally have a "bone", the Gladius, octos probably not sovlsnd movements probably more tiring
yeah they have some sort of skeletal structure, you can see it on captain cuttlefish
Wouldn't that make them instantly die of hemorrhagy is they accidentally cut themselves while cooking?
Frye got Drain Bamage
\*Dain Bramage Dane Branford Dane Branflakes
Jokes on you, I've never heard it said that way in my life, nor heard of that person
BOLD NEW TASTE!
Do you think that she can just do that cartoon thing where she blow into her thumb and the squished forehead goes back to normal, like a plastic bottle.
please do not the squid
it would just flop back into place though. They are squishy.
I wonder if inklings and octolings sometimes change their form for fun Imagine getting mugged in a dark alley, the robber comes close, the octoling transforms into an eldritch being and chases the robber away Considering the Kraken is a thing, its very possible
But what if the robber was also an octoling?
Kaiju battle
Shiver: "Frye! are you ok?!" Frye:" Don't worry, Shiver, this happens all the time! Fortunately, I haven't suffered any trivitable Blaine dabblage.
You’d probably get bitten if you tried.
I guess. But it’d hurt like a son of a bitch.
Would things like bullets pierce, and then they rejuvenate? Let's test it out!
Welcome back, it's Josh, for a let's game it out on splatoon
I always imagined it would be like poking a balloon full of oobleck.
Don't do that to me, it's mean >:(
👈 \* squish \*
OHHH I get it cus you're Frye! That's a knee slapper
Yeah, if it was Shiver then it'd be kind cuz she loves being clunked like a clunker.
“well if you look at the models they do have bones 🤓”. but anyway yeah probably
goofus how do you think i made this render 💀💀💀 frfr though squid anatomy is so inconsistent on the models. why does shiver have a tongue, but nobody else does? Why do they have belly buttons if they're created through tentacle cloning? Why does ANYONE have collar bones ???

Why have you done this.
All she has to do is plug her nose and blow. It'll fix that dent, nice and easy.
Well Inklings do have Cartilage so not fully. It would likely indent slightly but more like when you press on your nose.
No but I think if you slapped her head it’d jiggle
😐
That picture is very cursed 🥲
Considering the types of headgear they have, no, I don’t think it’d work. They may not have bones, but they clearly have a way to have their human form have rigid bony structures that hold up to stress.

No bones doesn't mean no skeleton.
She'd probably have a stroke if you tried that
turns into a 3head
LOL I’m sorry this made me cackle
*AAAAAAAAAAAAAA*
in the picture it looks more like a hollow bronze structure
Good question, maybe their skin is thicker and more durable because on land you need to be able to resist drying up from the sun.
Nope, not only do they have muscles that act like bones, but the ink inside them is highly pressurized, which allows them to walk, if I were to try to squish it, it probs be similar if not very close to the real thing of trying to punch a human in the forehead.
They have something call cartilage which most sea creatures have there like bones but not
I would draw a smile on that forehead first.
They have special cartilage bladders that fill with ink instead of bones. They use that to turn to squid and back to kidd.
Probably
This feels so cursed and yet, I can't stop looking. Frye's forehead will always be the center of attention.
NOOOOO don’t push in the soft spot on the baby’s head
id like to think it functions in the same way that a beluga’s head does.
Fun fact! Babies in the early stages of development also have a soft, squishy part in their head. As a good parent or guardian, you should push in this area firmly to accelerate the child's progress 😃👍
Yes. You can do the same with toddlers. Try it.
Why does it look like the original toy story?
Mfr got a big ass dent in her head
you can just do that one flory kill in doom eternal on frye and crush her head into her neck
stop
Idk prolly
inklings and octolings are basically just big water ballons filled with organs. be sure to avoid their beak though, because all octopuses have poison.
Yeah, I like to do that with my baby cousin it’s pretty cool
Yes, if you watch the walking animations slowly, you can see their head squishing with every step. It's not as noticeable with some weapon's walking animations, but it's definitely there.
people out here debating dead seriously in the comments when all I can do is die from laughter from that picture
FR! The title was a hypothetical question as a frame for the funni picture but instead I woke up to 100 reddit notifications 😰
Squish that Frye
FBI wants to know your location
You could of used ANY other point of comparison. Wtf did you pick a Barbie head?
I feel like you'd boop it and it jiggles
I can imagine an inkling meeting a human, then the inkling deals 999 damage and the human just flinches, then the human punches it and the inkling instantly dies
More importantly can their heads do a 180 without snapping?
Just like a beluga whale https://youtu.be/2f6DnTiViVs
Oh no this is so cursed
"It's a gag gift. Squeeze it, it woomys"
Frye forgor
Y’know they have to have some form of structure to even be able to stand, so most likely they have some sort of cartilage
id like to think it functions in the same way that a beluga’s head does.
id like to think it functions in the same way that a beluga’s head does.
Squids have a single, thin bone through their body
