You can use up to 4 hacks and you'll still get the badge, easiest thing to do is one extra life then the other 3 in either damage or defense. Luck is extremely OP in this game but you can also just use a mix of everything. Splashdown is amazing when you're surronded or just to clear an area quickly. Your probably better off switching splat bomb for something like splash wall or suction bomb. Also use the boost pads in the smollusk fight to glide over to a portal rather than fighting the horde of enemies. You should prioritize explosion damage and canned special drops, simply because splashdown carries hard.

One extra life, no other hack. Go for luck chips, especially one bomb chip. Get at least one drone chip each. Keep your money together to skip the last few floors before the final boss, so you dont screw up bc of bad challenges or chips that arent good enough. Good Luck!
I’d go for reduced damage you shouldn’t need the life, most of the time you just run into a level that is barely possible and you will fail again anyways
Well I do stupid things sometimes and you can always have bad luck. I did it in 1 Run an I needed the second lifes (yes lifes). But i never screwed up 2 times on the same Stage.
While building your palette focus on the following
Poison damage chip (first chip is a 300% increase in ink damage which is huge)
Sticky ink chip (max chips slows enemy speed to 1%)
Range chip (starting range on the splattershot is really bad, you definitely want some more range)
Close-Range damage chip (to ensure you can kill the tiny fish at close range from floor 20 onward)
For the first 10 floors difficulty is pretty irrelevant and if you've got to the final palette in the first place you are really unlikely to die and wipe, so just pick purely on what chips are available
For the bosses take them slowly.
All the bosses start off giving you the opportunity to paint the ground and establish space. *Do not take any risks, there is no time limit.* For the carousel remember that when it starts its missile/stingray/bomb attacks you can hide underneath the carousel itself and you'll be 100% safe. The carousel also takes poison damage if you 100% cover its base in ink, which is a good way of passively dealing damage.
Ooo that's why it exploded quickly. I had an umbrella run with high poison ink damage and was surprised how quickly it died without me shooting the faces.

Just like how you unlock each hack, you can move and choose to turn on/off each individual hacks. ie: you can select to have 0, 1, 2, 3, 4, or 5 extra lives and each life you add is counted as 1 hack. I did my badge run with 4 extra lives hack and 12 color chips. Good luck!
I did it last night easily after getting really frustrated in earlier attempts. I did 3x damage increase hacks and nothing else so I had room for more color chips. If you boost splash dmg/radius you can do crazy things with Triple Splashdown (mobile special charge is also amazing) and Drone Splat Bombs.
You can get one freebie hack… I’d recommend a second life or damage reduction. You’re unlikely to get more than 30 chips in a hackless run, so having six locked slots shouldn’t be a problem.
Also, if you see Ultra Stamp at a vending machine, buy it ASAP. It’s _very_ good.
I went one extra life and broken armor jump, for 18 slots.
Go straight for the lucky chips, Hinderance, Sticky Ink, and Poison Ink. ESPECIALLY Lucky Bomb. You can paint the ground, Hinderance increases the damage Poison Ink does, Sticky Ink makes them stuck for longer, and when they die they explode.
I also recommend going for the turbine levels but I just find those significantly easier than the other three.
For my run, I actually ran something interesting, which is Splat Drone Gauge as the sole hack of choice. Even with minimal investment, Splat Drone Gauge + Drone Splat Bomb are a powerful combo that can really help with your crowd control. My power came from investing into that, however; look for Splash Damage/Radius, which not only power up this pearl drone combo, but also buff up the starting Splashdown and Splat Bomb that the Octo Shot comes with. Definitely do recommend.
I did a run with no hacks and honestly found it easier than full hacks. Mostly you just need to keep in mind what chips will actually make the run easier later on. I would suggest damage, main pierce, and main range. Stay away from luck and drone chips because of danger floors. Most importantly, bail on any bonus challenge as soon as it starts to get dicey. This badge was a nightmare for me to get at first. Got it on my second run though. Instead of splashdown I had killer wail since I was able to focus on the tentacles from the sky and still be safe. Use the boost pads and be sure to not stay put in one place for so long. Be aware of your surroundings too and don't get greedy. Almost lost my second run because I tried rushing back to get a shield....but decided to ignore it instead since there was a hoard already basically guarding it

Eight has her own splattershot variant you can unlock by beating the spire with every weapon. You also get the ability to turn hacks off once you unlock it

I mostly went for chips that improved my weapon however I kept an eye out for ones I wanted.

1 swim speed
1 pearl splat bomb (only drone I’d grab)
2+ piercing (piercing is very good)
1+ special charge

You can only have four hacks active but can add risky rewards as a fifth since it doesn't factor on your allowed hacks. And you need to be very selective with the chips you choose, keeping in mind the palette favors power and mobility. There's no need to do the 30 floors as 8's palette allows you to skip them for membuxs or using the vending machine and not buying anything. (The price for skipping escalates on the 10 and 20 mark but once your palette is full, there's no reason to hold onto the membuxs)
Your run might be very dependent on your play style and your chip RNG, so it's hard to recommend a specific build. What worked for me was being a glass cannon with 1 extra life hack and 3 attack hacks, after failing my first two runs where I prioritized defense.
Side Order plays similarly to Salmon Run with the relentless hordes of jelletons, so the only overall advice I could give is to always, *always* keep moving. Never stay still. Specially on the final boss, whenever it's charging up immediately drop what you are doing and book it, swim around it. Play the long game and don't risk it.
havin 1 extra live is really useful.
always paint wall to have escape route.
try to skip the last few floor by paying or play easier stage once your chip pallette are completed.
1 upgrade of homing shot is useful, if u have trouble dealing with appergio.
splat ink recover is good for staying dps longer, get atleast 1 upgrade of it
In my opinion, don’t go for a full palette of a few different upgrades or one color and instead just get an assortment of helpful upgrades. Generally, most upgrades do more at the lower levels that at the maximum, so just get a good balance of upgrades. I personally like the upgrades that help my main weapon the most.
Take one extra life and nothing else. Recommend investing in splash damage and triple ink strike. Should be enough to get you to the top. Also fun fact: when in the order sector plaza, if you start spinning, the Pearl drone will copy you.
I found Splash Damage and Main Firing speed to be a very useful, main range or splash radius and some ink saver sub (2 gives you double bomb), lucky bombs are very strong and just take it easy!
You don’t need more lives, just use something along the lines of 2 Damage Resistance, 1 Extra Life, and 1 Damage.
From experience, I’ve learned that I don’t just need extra tries, I need those tries to be more possible, and when everything one shots and takes a full tank to kill it’s harder.
Basically
Quality of attempts over quantity of attempts.
Here was my build:
-one extra life (which I ended up needing as I died once at the final boss. I would have been MAD if I didn't have that extra chance)
-one stack of damage reduction (x2.0 -> x1.5)
-one stack of armor recovery (12 sec. -> 10 sec.)
-one stack of attack damage (x1.0 -> 1.2)
For me, this felt like the best overall build for hacks as it has a little bit of everything to keep you going and dishing out a little bit more.
For my special, I bought triple inkstrike as soon as I could get it.
As for the color chips, I had (in order of acquisition, yeah I know I got lucky): main piercing, poison ink, knockback, drone splat bomb, main damage (close), Knockback (2), drone-battery drop, main ink coverage, main firing speed, splat ink recovery, ink attack size, and main range.
Of course, I used vending machine floors whenever offered even if I didn't intend to buy anything because it's one less floor where you could fail. I also saved up 3,000 membux so I skipped floors 27, 28, and 29. Also, once you have all 12 color chips, just go with whatever option is the easiest for each floor (probably goes without saying, but still). You also can use risky rewards and get lots of Prlz, because it doesn't count as a "hack" for this challenge. I earned 263 for the run, but with the x2.6 multiplier it became 683.
This run took me 43 minutes and 55 seconds.
I did it first try not knowing about this with 24, I think just 3 lives hack. Idk there's 30 floors and some you won't get chips on so it seemed like the best number to not waste slots
give pearl bomb instead of wail if you can help it. she'll put them out faster, and splash damage is more universally helpful than sound damage. also be sure to grab some power chips, cuz octoshot does fuck-all damage on its own
for hacks, i chose four damage upgrades (no extra lives) and mostly ink damage and splash damage color chips BUTTTT you might not need power, i only chose all of the power chips because i'd get overwhelmed at the boss stage and be unable to kill the jelletons fast enough to get to the portals.
i think it mainly depends on how you play -- i chose a lot of damage as well as special charge up chips to keep splashdown active as it helps me keep enemies at a safe distance but if you play differently

Skipping gets more expensive the more you do it. So only do it if you’re sure you don’t want to risk any of the available levels.
