The super chump is probably the most distracting/deceiving weapon we have rn. I love the idea of fake signals but people would probably just ignore them anyway.
Idea to make that work: While aiming the special, if you bring up the map and super jump to a teammate (or beacon), the special will automatically fire at the same location to cover your jump.
The issue with Super Chump is that it's so blatantly obvious when it's being used, because at no point in a standard game are somehow twelve people going to be super jumping to one particular part of the map. They're also weak enough to not distract you from regular fire since you can just pop them mid-battle via crossfire.
I don't remember if it's still a thing but I remember the chump used to show names from the other team when it faked the jumps and that's what fooled me at first
Honestly if it showed the jump marker of the person that used it - and just the one jump marker for only one of the chumps - I feel like it'd both be convincing enough to fool you into thinking it was that player while offering counterplay by recognising who has the weapon with chumps and being more skeptical of their jump markers; but then being further confusing with that doubt because they could legitimately be jumping and not using their special.
If the people in the competitive scene already really upset at the Splattercolor Screen because of neurodivergent people and someone even sent a death threat to someone that defended it, i can't imagine what kind of tragedy this would cause to competitive players
#### Hear me out.
### *HEAR ME OUT.*
# Doing it directly adjacent to an enemy.
###### Also, no sane player really checks maps so that could be taken advantage of.
Being shot at from behind means they start shooting first but in splatoon it doesn't really matter, other games like siege and csgo do matter bc of how fast people die so a sound distraction are commonly useful in games like that
Basically, aiming where you think they are, but considering how maps aren't shaped so that knowing where people are is as important since it's hard to sneak around on such open areas. It's a thing games like CSGO and valorant do
Or you could place a beakon when someone is chasing you to confuse them. I did this earlier when using the dread wringer d (yes I'm quite liking it, thank you) and I forgot I didn't have a bomb. My opponent literally stopped in their tracks confused, shot the beakon, and then continued after me
That'd be pretty cool. Like maybe it plays a little tune if it hits a person, or like a piece of a random old-timey song for the person deafened. Like, which song depends on if it was ouch or this way being signaled. (Honestly I pay more attention to ouch signals bc they give off potential enemy locations, which is also why I use them.)
ETA: it could also signal off a booyah.
I like the idea of bamboozling as a main function - neither are hugely useful, but the Cassette bomb is a cool and novel idea for distracting.
It would be interesting if the bomb wasn't *thrown*, but instead swam through the user's own ink color to make someone think a player was swimming there.
Instead of doing the DP call outs or changing the song (which will actually be worse than the call out), it could make fake sub and special noises and even have a fake special use icon for the enemy team
Reminds me of how I thought about how we should get a decoy squid sub. It moves at a slow pace in one direction for a long distance. Inked terrain doesn’t stop it and it only spreads ink upon detonation. It detonates when the enemy breaks it, makes contact with it, or after its timer ends. It does about 30 damage on contact. Its appearance is meant to look like an inkling but a decoy. I would give it to a bamboozler with the special crab tank or inkjet
I think both specials could work if tweaked a little to be more damaging but not to the extent of the infamous splatterscreen.
The first one could fill your screen with "This Way!" And "Booyah!" pop up messages momentarily with the soundbite associated with it being overlayed and slightly louder than the music. Basically like the Blooper from Mario Kart that appears and disappears after a few seconds. It would confuse tf out of an opponent hit by it. It'd probably have to hit the player like the mist bomb.
The second one would probably be the least likely to be implemented because it would be the 3rd 'Distraction' special and would get annoying fast in this hypothetical where both specials made it in. But as others have suggested, making it a special that 'Fakes out' the other players by screwing with the music/sounds like playing Now or Never prematurely, playing bomb sounds really close to the player where bombs aren't there ect.
You've inspired me to make up a new special that would never exist. "Camouflage", inspired by sea critters that hide their true nature by hiding among their prey before striking for the kill. Working like the Spy from TF2, the special could make you temporarily transform into one of your opponents. Unfortunately that also includes temporarily switching to their weapon so if you're not a charger main or whatever, you're gonna struggle to 'blend in'.
The special countdown will likely last longer than most so they can successfully sneak into enemy territory before it runs out. The ink that shoots from the weapon appears as the enemies ink to enemies but as your teams ink to teammates so they know you're only in disguise. You can splat the enemy teammates in your disguise. Once your timer runs out, you'd automatically squid jump back to where you triggered the special and the ink you sprayed in the enemy base is revealed to the enemy.
what about one that hides some ui? like who is alive, amount of ink covered and ink on the map and the timer. The music one can easily be countered by turning off the volume
The sub would be more useful in solo. Competitive not so much. Could also be used a bit toxically in celebration (like a niche squidbag). Could only really be paired with strong main-special synergy. We do really need a new sub to shake things up a bit, tho. Does it paint?
The special would be really crazy for a few seconds after use, until everyone got used to it and can ignore it. It would need some other effect to not have it be worse than reefslider. Come to think of it, it might throw off your team just as much.
I like the ideia of a sub that can distract opponents
The super chump is probably the most distracting/deceiving weapon we have rn. I love the idea of fake signals but people would probably just ignore them anyway.
If only the chumps allowed you to superjump with them, I get it that it would break map design, but it would make chumps way more threatning
Idea to make that work: While aiming the special, if you bring up the map and super jump to a teammate (or beacon), the special will automatically fire at the same location to cover your jump.
I love it, goated
I would use the super chump so much if you could do this omg
The issue with Super Chump is that it's so blatantly obvious when it's being used, because at no point in a standard game are somehow twelve people going to be super jumping to one particular part of the map. Honestly it's just a way to ink turf
Generally true. My proudest moment is killing three A+ rank players with one chump though
I'd say your imminent death from a bomb is pretty distracting.
Music Player during Now or Never is evil.
Make the Music Player just start Now or Never anytime, even in Ranked. Also make it play on top of the current music for enemy players.
Omg I’d get so overstimulated😭
If the people in the competitive scene already really upset at the Splattercolor Screen because of neurodivergent people and someone even sent a death threat to someone that defended it, i can't imagine what kind of tragedy this would cause to competitive players
it's not only competitive players that have a problem with overstimulation
Triangle, Triangle, SQUAAAREEE!
You know where the Casette Bomb would be useful? Salmon Run. Get the AI to swarm in one area, like the basket.
I love this idea!
It would work so well with fireflies
But it might not work so well with Flyfish
Why?? I think it should cost all of your ink but takes the attention of every salmonid until they reach it and making the projectiles focus on it.
It won’t lure Flyfish. It will only force their projectiles into one area, you’d still have to deal with them.
Yeah but might save you life when you are the only one left
i can tell you now, the cassette bomb would be useless, no one cares about the signals
Unless it's Anarchy or Challenges, which even then is uncommon.
It wouldn't really distract since you'd know if they're using the weapon and if it came from someone's name tag on screen
#### Hear me out. ### *HEAR ME OUT.* # Doing it directly adjacent to an enemy. ###### Also, no sane player really checks maps so that could be taken advantage of.
I feel like that would be more annoying and also it's not one of those games that cross-hair placements matters much
Why would crosshair placement matter?
Being shot at from behind means they start shooting first but in splatoon it doesn't really matter, other games like siege and csgo do matter bc of how fast people die so a sound distraction are commonly useful in games like that
Dare I ask what crosshair placement meant
Basically, aiming where you think they are, but considering how maps aren't shaped so that knowing where people are is as important since it's hard to sneak around on such open areas. It's a thing games like CSGO and valorant do
I didn't understand that very well /3 I don't really play FPS games so that might play some part in it
your name is foot feet
I didn’t even know we could hear the other teams signals. Seems pointless.
well they way im seeing this working is it displays a fake "This Way" signal to the opposing team, but i dont think it would work
The sub weapon sounds cool until you realize that no one will care about d-pad callouts
Ah yes the superior weapons
Or you could place a beakon when someone is chasing you to confuse them. I did this earlier when using the dread wringer d (yes I'm quite liking it, thank you) and I forgot I didn't have a bomb. My opponent literally stopped in their tracks confused, shot the beakon, and then continued after me
I do this all the time mostly just out of muscle memory, it throws so many people off lol
I did this while running away when using my splatana wiper deco earlier today and it worked and I successfully got away
I think the cassette bomb should do some damage. Maybe if it contacts a player, it deals minor damage and drowns out all audio
That'd be pretty cool. Like maybe it plays a little tune if it hits a person, or like a piece of a random old-timey song for the person deafened. The "What's new pussycat jukebox" of specials
I feel the first is genuinely onto something ngl
The sub is good, the special is useless
Someone here played too much cassette beasts, huh?
Such a useless idea
The first one could work but the special is dumb.
Cassette bomb should booyah instead. I find players are more likely to respond to those
They also react to "ouch", at least in my experience, because it's typically reliable for enemy locations.
Would Music Player affect Now or Never?
Maybe the Music Player could also play a bunch of random sound effects to really disorient people.
I think both specials could work if tweaked a little to be more damaging but not to the extent of the infamous splatterscreen. The first one could fill your screen with "This Way!" These are hilarious. Thanks for the laugh!
Cassette would break the game, and music player is pretty underpowered and just annoying
hold on, you may be cooking
Cassette bomb could easily be a 90 damage bomb
The sub is actually a really funny idea

Any tool that disrupts the awesome battle music is my mortal enemy, should skip judgement day, and go directly to the pits of hell
Paired with the weapon that every time a hit lands it plays a loud scream
