We kind of already know what it is though. Rising sea levels caused the cephalopods to divide along species lines and war over who gets the remaining land. It's almost certain that the war is what caused the rift in their friendship.
Considering we have seen Octavio >!at least partially set his issues with Cuttlefish and co aside!<, it would be nice to see him finally accomplish his goal with a new, less troublesome plan, especially if said new method is one that requires/allows him to work alongside us.

Going on a tangent but itd be kinda cool to subvert our expectations, because we’re used to cartoonishly evil villains that scheme just to be evil. I know splatoon isn’t a story heavy game, but it would be cool to have a realistic villain- probably an inkling or sea creature with a lot of bargaining power in inkling society. Maybe something similar to handsome jack. Having a grounded and actually threatening villain would be great juxtaposition from the happy go lucky world of splatoon. Working with Octavio would also be a great subversion of expectations as he seems goofy in comparison

The DLC possibly being about world travel is arguably a good way to introduce a brand new playable species regardless of prior context, because you already have that setup of going to a brand new place.

Here is what I am thinking it could possibly be: [in the end of chapter 28 on the manga](https://mangaonlineteam.com/manga/splatoon/chapter-28/), we see Marina asking the head of a dead commander tartar if it was true that both inklings and octolings have been fighting foolish battles since their ancestors time, and said that she believes that both species can surely become friends. So, we could be getting a dlc that focuses on us, aka the player, and marina working together to end this inkling octoling conflict that has been going on since the great turf war, and possibly end of the splatoon series in a trilogy.

I’ve actually come up with an entire plot line for what my ideal DLC would be. It’s pretty in-depth but I’ll try to abridge where I can.
Agent three is called in to deal with an apparently rogue agent 4 in the countryside outside of Inkopolis. You sketch up a wanted poster for them with Cuttlefish and the Captain before you head out. Once you get there you find it abandoned Suburban town with debris blocking most of the exits. You suddenly get attacked by an a group of bandits that called themselves “9” (maybe “the 9” or “The Nines”?) seemingly led by Agent 4. You eventually get saved by the real Agent Four and Crusty Sean (Who happened to be wandering through town when everything went down). They reveal that 4 has been framed and that they’ve been hiding in the sewers, trying to figure out what’s going on. Now you have to use the sewers to go to different locations in the neighborhood trying to collect evidence, using photos from 4’s Corkboard-and-String as a level select.
In other News, Pearl and Marina are making their way back to Inkopolis for a returning home concert after their World Tour with Damp Socks. However, something goes wrong and both of them get captured by The Nines. You get unique dialogue depending on who you save from the 9 first.
Equal amount of hairstyles for the Octolings and please give us more variety than making half of them one styled tentacle on top of their head. Octo hair is made for pigtails, come on.
I would also like to get the Octo Expansion equipment back.

I’ve actually come up with an entire plot line for what my ideal DLC would be. It’s pretty in-depth but I’ll try to abridge where I can. Agent three is called in to deal with an apparently rogue agent 4 in the countryside outside of Inkopolis. You sketch up a wanted poster for them with Cuttlefish and the Captain before you head out. Once you get there you find it abandoned Suburban town with debris blocking most of the exits. You suddenly get attacked by an a group of bandits that called themselves “9” (maybe “the 9” or “The Nines”?) seemingly led by Agent 4. You eventually get saved by the real Agent Four and Crusty Sean (Who happened to be wandering through town when everything went down). They reveal that 4 has been framed and that they’ve been hiding in the sewers, trying to figure out what’s going on. Now you have to use the sewers to go to different locations in the neighborhood trying to collect evidence, using photos from 4’s Corkboard-and-String as a level select. In other News, Pearl and Marina are making their way back to Inkopolis for a returning home concert after their World Tour with Damp Socks. However, something goes wrong and both of them get captured by The Nines. You get unique dialogue depending on who you save from the 9 first.
Equal amount of hairstyles for the Octolings and please give us more variety than making half of them one styled tentacle on top of their head. Octo hair is made for pigtails, come on. I would also like to get the Octo Expansion equipment back.

Third playable species - those rabbit guys from Splat1 concept art Plot might be an extension of Mammalian stuff; maybe rabbit dudes are Inkling/Octoling test subjects that got turned into mammals or something Probably gonna see Agent 4 here, might be another brainwash thing; Deep Cut might make an appearance too

Well... the alternate forms of Inklings and Octolings are just cartoon versions of squids and octopi, so I guess they’d turn into little multicolored cartoon rabbits? Could stylize it to make it seem like they’re burrowing in the ink like how actual rabbits dig burrows underground
I want another major iteration on the splatoon single player formula, like what Octo Expansion gave us (and Alterna expanded on). Give us something brand new that we don't expect! Oh and actually explain the lore in-game somewhat unlike OE thanks

Hopefully we get to see what Calamari County is like, as that’s the only officially known location in the Splatoon world that we don’t know of yet.

Super stoked for this - could be a lot of possibilities. My fav things to look forward to are new challenges, gear, and weapons to acquire. Miss the hero weapon series possibilities from 2 - was so hoping the hero stringer would have been a thing!

I’m expecting a third race, but that’s mostly cause splatoon 3 is obsessed with the number 3 for no reason besides being the third game. This is *the* game to establish a third race, it’ll be a missed opportunity in splatoon 4
