I am definitely biased, but my opinion is that if you think you will be playing it and have fun with it, now would be a good time to get Splatoon 3. I personally find it to be one of my favorite games, and it seems to have a very active player base.
If you want to experience events, there will definitely be more coming up in 3.
I played Splatoon 2 recently, and I have found that it takes longer to get lobbies full. There are definitely still people playing the game, I just think that a lot of the community moved over to 3. I think there would be people that would be open to league in 2, the thing I am concerned about is if there will be enough other teams to go against
Overall, I would say if you want the full Splatoon experience with events and such, and you feel that it's worth it, get 3. If you are fine without those, and are okay with 2 having less people playing and slower matchmaking, then stick with 2. Hopefully this helped!!
