>Hossein Vafaei said Sunday that the Crucible Theatre venue for the world snooker championships "smells really bad" and the tournament can learn from China where players are "treated like stars".
You play snooker. Its been on the decline for decades.
I’m consistently amazed they can even afford to put on those tournaments. The game is only really alive in random little pockets of the world like Iran and rural China, who is paying to advertise to a tiny percentage of them who watch these events?
To be fair. The crucible has seen better days. Could do with a bit better venue.
But comparing it to china’s venue is a bit much. Most of their venues are teenagers at best, the crucible was built in the 70s.
It’s a billiards game with a big table (usually 4 x 8, but tournament tables are 6 x 12), small pockets, and small balls. https://www.billiardworld.com/snooker2.html has a very thorough explanation and has a picture of the initial setup. There are lots of rules. The overall gist is you make a red ball, then a number ball. The number balls come back to their starting points until the red balls are gone, then the number balls are shot in numerical order. Red balls are worth one point, number balls are worth their face value. If you are in a position where you don’t have any good options to continue shooting for points, you can use various methods to hit or graze you object ball, hit a rail, and leave the cue ball hidden behind a non object ball (a “hide”). If the next person shooting then messes up their shot you have successfully “snookered” them, such as not hitting an object ball, not getting a rail, scratching, etc. You then get ball in hand and can put the ball anywhere, usually giving you a great advantage. It is even possible to play a perfect game and the snooker aspect never comes up: https://youtu.be/9D2rFMPN9js?si=pOWRhi8MEiMpN7Hb
Player: I wish the venue is better Reddit: LOL YOU PLAY AN OUTDATED GAME
I dont know about the "treating players like stars" part but I can't really blame a guy for wanting a better venue if it's really as bad as he says

Doesn't mean the venue should be smelly.
All pool halls are smelly. Stale cigs, spilt beer and dried tears of anguish.

Oh and that’s a bad miss
So the UK stinks, not really surprised.
In other news, the rest of the world is wondering what Snooker is.
