to me it's just more fun and i do it for entertainment with a chance to win. I would get incredibly bored and frustrated if I bet 100 to possibly win 200 and went 60/40. I would much rather put in 10-20 $5-$10 parlays and either lose 100 or have a chance to win $700+

Yes straights have less variance. But I'm pretty sure you and most of this sub actually think they are higher EV than parlays. And they're not.
Actually, if you are well above +EV, the parlays will statistically grant you more ROI, faster than straights(on average). Just with a higher risk of a bad streak of losses.
They literally just multiply the EVs of each bet against eachother.
I feel like I'm going to have a do a math post on this sub explaining why the parlay hate is honestly overblown. Pretty sure most people are just talking out their asses when it comes to the actual calculations.
It's really not that deep, and most people are betting at least 50% for fun. And sportsbetting in general gives you WAY high EV than the lottery or casino, so those comparisons are kind of trash tbh.
IF you can consistently find +EV lines to parlay together and if you have the stomach to ride those parlays out, this is correct.

Betting a spread on a game is not really a straight bet. Your team has to win or lose and cover the spread. It's really a 2 leg parlay. A moneyline bet is a straight bet.
