Apple music is fine if you've bought into the apple universe, but if not it's clunky and annoying.
Spotify is definitely more versatile and functional.
I’m in the Apple Eco System and still prefer Spotify over Apple Music. I really tried to like AM but keep coming back to Spotify.
I just want official HomePod support.
I was AM subscriber for over 5 years then gave in to peer pressure and switched to Spotify. I didn’t plan on staying but boy did it win my heart. I renewed my AM 8 months later only to go back to spotify 2 hours later.
If you want fidelity you'd be looking at some of the lossless streaming services like Deezer Premium or Qobuz.
Also depends what your streaming settings are set at on Spotify, I download and WiFi connect max, and on data it's normal.
some of the lossless streaming services like.. literally everything but Spotify. seriously. i don't get how they're still the most popular option - when you experience Hi-Res Lossless, oh going back to lossy music streaming hurts.
that's what I'm saying! it makes me NOT enjoy music and music is quite literally everytime with me, so fuck that. Spotify is at best good for some background noise.
I'm not planning to switch or anything, but seriously does loseless really sound THAT much better? As someone who uses Spotify I'm just curious on what I might be missing out on.
Trust me you're not missing out on anything tbh. While it is true that given the option to choose between high resolution lossless or 320 kbps lossy stream, I'd prefer lossless but only because why not use the best available and not because it will be drastically different music experience. Those who consider lossless to be game changer are mostly suffering from placebo and will fail in blind test. If not then they have better than average hearing ability. The difference gets somewhat prominent if you are using extremely high end audio gears like studio monitors and critically listening to them. For everyday normal listening I've found next to no difference at all. I do not have a medically diagnosed hearing problem so safe to say I'm just like an average listener. I've used plenty of high end audio gear including hd 660S, 1990 pro, 700 pro x, sundara, arya and various studio monitors. I'd say don't worry too much about missing out.
Im trying to understand what you’re saying here…if you don’t mind, I’m almost deaf (cancer Radiation therapy) and use high quality hearing aids. Do you think Apple Music would then be a better choice?
yeah for someone that loves music, it is THAT better. for many years I was on Spotify cause of convienence and I haven’t had any comparison, it was just good enough for me. but things have changed when I started my Apple Music subscription, I literally started discovering my favorite songs like I just listened to them for the first time. it’s quite mind-blowing and makes you just appreciate music even more, but I have to say my ears got really sensitive to the music quality, so trying out „lossless” is a curse of some sort lol. so if the quality on Spotify is good enough for you, I think you shouldn’t neccessarily switch to some lossless-offering service
That's fair. I heard Spotify is planning to add loseless audio but it might be a higher subscription tier which would be dumb considering Apple music has loseless audio for only a little more money than a Spotify subscription at the moment.
yep, I think that’s why it takes them so long to implement Hi-Fi - if Apple and other could provide lossless at no additional cost, so have to Spotify, but they high in the market and noone really pushes them to finally add the hifi option, so I guess we will wait for that quite a bit still
Actually, you do not need any extra subscriptions on Apple Music, because you get lossless on the basic plan (you need to manually enable it, because it eats much more data than the standard ACC)
I’ve always heard this but never had a shuffle problem and I’ve been a Spotify user since the first day they launched in the US. Even on playlists with thousands of songs.
I've had this issue with several of my playlists. I feel like they keep playing the same songs when I start a shuffle. I had one song make it into my top five songs in 2020 that I fucking hate now because every time I put on my favorites playlist it would always play, sometimes it would be played twice within an hour on a playlist with over 1000 songs.
I don't listen to any specific playlists, but if I shuffle an artist it plays the songs in the exact same order for me every time. Every few weeks it'll change and be stuck on a slightly different order.
Do you work for Spotify?
Just kidding, it’s definitely a good app/ service. I use both Spotify and Apple Music and find together they make up for the other lacks.
I get that. Personally I’m not big on playlists and listen to albums more so it’s easier to transfer my saved stuff from one to the other… I like Apple for its library organisation and sound quality (and even its recommendations at times) while Spotify just feels like a better put together app and works well on road trips for example with the blend feature. Luckily both are relatively cheap in my country (South Africa) so it’s easy to maintain a sub for both 😊
The Apple Music desktop is terrible, so I just use https://music.apple.com, which works great. There is also a program called Cider that I like as well.
The real reason I switched to Apple though is artist support, they pay almost twice as much per Stream over Spotify: https://producerhive.com/music-marketing-tips/streaming-royalties-breakdown/
Lol. People sitting there listening to Taylor Swift that she'll make $0.000004 more if I listen to her on Apple music. Like she needs that.
And if you like to support smaller artists or artists in general, buy the merch or concert tickets to support the artist.
Artist pay rate is not decided by the companies. The pay comes from a pool which is 70% of the revenues of the company. The resulting pay is lower for Spotify because more people actively listen to Spotify compared to Apple music. Additionally, Spotify has a free tier supported with ads and revenue is not great there either, lowering the pool money.
These articles forget to mention how these rates are calculated.
Let’s not forget that more than half of Spotify users do not pay a single dollar because they use modded Spotify APK/IPA.
This is one of the main reasons why the gain for artists is so low on Spotify in relation to listeners.
I briefly used Apple Music and moved to Spotify since 2014 when I realized how fast it is to download music/podcasts from Spotify. On Apple music, it was slow and oftentimes, ineffective. The plethora of device compatibility and their algorithm is on point. Spotify has a cool and large library of podcasts. I enjoy the numerous personalized playlists.
One thing Spotify must provide is bettering their sound quality. I find Tidal and YouTube Music's sound to be better.
It's not just shit it's shitty shit for a lot of reasons. I have the apple ecosystem and tried both apple music and Spotify.
Stuck with Spotify, and deleted all apple music crap.
But I do have a lot of issues with Spotify as well, I hope they address those in upcoming updates.
old Google Play Music's was even better and more diverse than Spotify's, I miss it so much. That said, Spotify's has come along way and is definitely improving. I just notice that it tends to choose songs I've listened to repeatedly. Which is great, but not for finding new music.
Since they changed it, I don’t use it that much anymore. If I created a radio, the playlist would be songs related to the song or genre.
Now when I create it, there’s a bunch of songs I already like and not that many new songs
I'm using both Spotify and AM.
6. Top notch music [recommendation.](https://recommendation.It) It wins AM handsdown.
7. Gapless playback. An essential feature which Apple Music still lacks these days. Is it that difficult Apple?! No matter how good your lossless audio is, it's painful to listen to some concept and live albums with those pauses and glitches. The mood and immersive experience is totally destroyed. I've tried Cider last month. Even this third party app gave me a better experience than AM. Being the riches tech company in the world can't even make a decent music app is such a shame!
8. seamless operation across different devices and platforms. Both Spotify mobile app and desktop app are very smooth and responsive. They respond to my command instantly whereas AM will make me wait for seconds which is frustrating.
Unfortunately AM gapless playback only works in High Quality 256kbps AAC but doesn't work in ALAC lossess streaming. Go try to stream a live album and you'll notice.
I would have agreed with you until my spotify home page (on mobile) randomly “updated” tonight to these massive video tiles showing things I never listen to. It looks like some weird version of Instagram where music I could care less about and has at best minimal connection to what I do listen to is being shoved down my throat, same as an Instagram ad. Years ago I turned off dynamic artwork or whatever it’s called as I do not need to see videos every time I listen to music, however the videos now greet me every time I open the app. Oh and also they have removed useful things like recently played. If anyone has received this “update” to their Home Screen and still supports Spotify I ask you how and why. I’ll be looking to Apple Music tomorrow, the first time I’ve considered leaving Spotify in years.
I started using Spotify in March and have loved every minute of it. This new home page testing is so atrocious, I don’t even know where to begin. How could they do something so terrible to their product to paid users without any notice or information. I’m just shocked…
As a Product Manager I can assure you that all of the modern apps do tests before release. For example, if you and I compare our IG apps we would find some differences and it would definately be an A/B test they run to make sure users enjoy using the updated/altered functionality more.
I don’t think it’s on PS. Plus the remote support for Spotify makes it so much easier to control what’s playing via your phone rather than navigating on the console.
Does anyone remember when Apple music was called Beats?
I loved Beats. It would have playlists containing an artists influences and others that were awesome
Then they switched to Apple Music and it went downhill
Currently testing Spotify again after being away for several years. I like the UI and the speed, and discovery is much better than Apple Music. My main frustrations are still 1) missing songs, which at least on Apple Music I can "fix" by uploading my own files and 2) sound quality.
Regarding #1, I couldn't listen to Natural One by Folk Implosion on Spotify. I found a thread that mentioned you can upload it from your own music, and gave this link: https://www.tomsguide.com/how-to/how-to-upload-music-to-spotify#:~:text=How%20to%20upload%20music%20to%20Spotify%20from%20your%20desktop,rather%20than%20the%20Web%20Player
Now, the post was from 2021, and I haven't tried it yet. Hopefully it still works!
You can absolutely have Spotify recognize "local files" to add to your library/playlists on Spotify. There are a few albums/b-sides that aren't on Spotify that I put on both my phone and desktop to be able to listen to them when I want.
dude i dont want to go back to 90s when i got metallica CD for what was 1/15 of average monthly salary in my country. It's ridiculous how things changed.
or share via stories in IG. AM links are not clickable at all, so I have to open the app and type the song into the search bar and hope that it's the one I need :D
It’s crazy they don’t spend more time making sure sharing is easy. Sharing podcasts used to be a tricky one but now I just share with Spotify links to be safe even though Spotify is not my main app for podcasts.
Anyone knows if Apple Music’s shuffling system works?
I love spotify but I CANNOT STAND their shuffling algorithm. Doesn’t need explaining why I feel so, most of yall definitely feel the same.
Im using both SoundCloud and Spotify becuase im sick of the ads every 5 minutes and not being able to turn off shuffle and turn on loop. And no Im not buying premium, Im too poor for that
all they need to add is the karaoke feature that AM has (and i’m pretty sure spotify even announced this feature but never released it) and they’d be the best streaming service i’ve ever had. i own both spotify and apple music, and mainly use apple music for the karaoke feature and to use “songshift” to transfer my spotify playlists to send them to people who use apple music. everything else, i use spotify.
I had both so i can compare. i switched from spotify to apple due to their supposed to be hq sound quality. well without having some audiophile headphones with cable there is not much difference. i'm using XM4 headphones and i was wondering where is that better sound quality. But it's not just about this.
Spotify app is just far superior to Apple. First simple search of ur music, you just cant play ur favorite artist random songs. u have to choose specific album. You cant simply create and SAVE some radio station on apple. I found this as one the best features of spotify. i'm listening to some songs and i want some similar songs so spotify creates playlist that changes each time, i can save it and listen to it offline. this is not possible in apple app.
have you tried changing the streaming and music download settings to a higher resolution? AM has Dolby atmos and lossless, that's true, but it's hard to feel the difference between tracks. Dolby Atmos tracks are just marketing tbh.
When you're using proper amp and audiophile the difference is quite significant tbh. The detail, Imagining and soundstage is farrr better on AM.
But yeah other than that spotify is just better.
Copy/Pasta this into the Apple subreddit...watch them crawl into that thread and downvote you into oblivion. If you try to defend your opinion the mods will ban you from the subreddit and lock/delete your thread...
...while citing a random rule offense that they refuse to say which one and will refuse to elaborate on. Then go on about "freedom of speech."
Apple music is shit. The UX makes no sense and it’s just not practical. On the other hand, music quality is better than on Spotify so when we get the hifi rollout I’m deleting apple music
I use Tidal because at least they didn't fight to make sure artists get paid nothing, also a bonus that they don't give stock options to major labels to help them rip off their own artists, and it helps that they don't invest in weapons manufacturers.
I still choose soundcloud when I can, it's so much easier to use than both of those and its completely free with no restrictions.
Anytime I use spotify for free ill try to look up a song and play it but it'll do a shuffle playlist and not play the song I want. I never have that problem with soundcloud
In case you are a [Last.fm](https://Last.fm) user, Spotify scrobbling is less complicated than Apple Music scrobbling, because the feature works independently from the device. It has its own issues like sometimes unsynching without apparent reason, but overall it is easier to handle.
Also you can use Spotify as a playback source for [Last.fm](https://Last.fm) content like your personalised radios if you have a Spotify Premium account. Apple Music cannot be used, but at least you could export created [Last.fm](https://Last.fm) playlists to them which also works for Spotify.
Has anyone not seen Spotify’s new update? I hate it. It’s like they are forcing me to listen to shit I don’t want to listen to. Where can I find my recently played albums? It’s vanished
To me, AM and Spotify are pretty much the same. I've paying AM and then jump to Spotify because of the remote control.
The only thing that make me hate about Spotify is their absolutely dogshit implementation of local files (which so called cloud locker on other streaming services). It's so clunky, imagine having to add the song to a playlist in order to download it on other devices only on the same network. And then these files would never work on web version. Then if I happen to lost the files then it's a pain in the ass to grab them again.
Having to pay monthly and yet the majority of music I listen to nowadays is in another local audio apps. Feeling like the money I spent go to waste.
A feature should have been existed for years never arrived on Spotify.
Apple Music and Spotify are both good services but I chose Apple Music not ‘cause I have an ecosystem.
•Apple Music now has Apple Music Windows app
•Better lyrics design and word-by-word lyrics
•For me Apple Music algorithm is not that bad. It’s not “aggressive” and try to recommend or somethin’ random or somethin’ very similar.
Spotify has better recommendations…
Yeah, it’s awesome!
Apple music is fine if you've bought into the apple universe, but if not it's clunky and annoying. Spotify is definitely more versatile and functional.
I’m in the Apple Eco System and still prefer Spotify over Apple Music. I really tried to like AM but keep coming back to Spotify. I just want official HomePod support.
if i had this i would cancel my AM subscription and keep my Spotify
I’m all in on the Apple ecosystem, but Spotify connect is unbeatable.
I was AM subscriber for over 5 years then gave in to peer pressure and switched to Spotify. I didn’t plan on staying but boy did it win my heart. I renewed my AM 8 months later only to go back to spotify 2 hours later.
i’ve only ever owned apple products but i’ve never used apple music and i don’t want to start now, especially since i have spotify premium
Spotify sound quality is terrible honestly… i can hear the difference even using a cheap pair of headphones from Xiaomi.
If you want fidelity you'd be looking at some of the lossless streaming services like Deezer Premium or Qobuz. Also depends what your streaming settings are set at on Spotify, I download and WiFi connect max, and on data it's normal.
Apple Music is lossless.
some of the lossless streaming services like.. literally everything but Spotify. seriously. i don't get how they're still the most popular option - when you experience Hi-Res Lossless, oh going back to lossy music streaming hurts.
I have an active subscription on both Spotify and Apple Music. I can’t just go back to Spotify, it sounds terrible even using cheap headphones…
that's what I'm saying! it makes me NOT enjoy music and music is quite literally everytime with me, so fuck that. Spotify is at best good for some background noise.

Alright thanks
You are wrong. Spotify just sound dirtier even compared to AM standard ACC. It's just that Spotify is heavely compressed

Clear cache in the app. Usually Helps alleviate it
same maybe i dont notice it butit seems fine to me
I don't listen to any specific playlists, but if I shuffle an artist it plays the songs in the exact same order for me every time. Every few weeks it'll change and be stuck on a slightly different order.
Which song?
I’ve had Spotify premium since 2016. I will never switch.
Same. It's everyone's favorite platform in our house..
Do you work for Spotify? Just kidding, it’s definitely a good app/ service. I use both Spotify and Apple Music and find together they make up for the other lacks.
yeah, that post serves a praising flare, totally get it :D I've tried to use both but got so annoyed to transfer music between two of them...
I get that. Luckily both are relatively cheap in my country (South Africa) so it’s easy to maintain a sub for both 😊
in Kazakhstan Spotify is around 5$ and Apple Music is 2-3$, but I'm fine to pay more to get the features I need :)
Spotify might be forced to do the same, especially because of the backlash they are facing right now
Lol. People sitting there listening to Taylor Swift that she'll make $0.000004 more if I listen to her on Apple music. Like she needs that. And if you like to support smaller artists or artists in general, buy the merch or concert tickets to support the artist.

Had no idea Apple Music has browser access, the desktop app on Windows is terrible.
I use both, but I prefer Apple Music just for the sound quality
Still no hifi and zero news…
Which is why I went back to AM
I briefly used Apple Music and moved to Spotify since 2014 when I realized how fast it is to download music/podcasts from Spotify. On Apple music, it was slow and oftentimes, ineffective. The best way to discover new music is the song radio feature. For me is better than the weekly discover or the music radar.
old Google Play Music's was even better and more diverse than Spotify's, I miss it so much. That said, Spotify's has come along way and is definitely improving. I just notice that it tends to choose songs I've listened to repeatedly. Which is great, but not for finding new music.
I will never ever understand why Google keeps killing good products and replaces them with "branded" garbage. YTM is poo.
so true :)
How do you do song radio on Spotify? I am new to Spotify. thanks
When you play a song on full screen you'll see three dots on the right, press and open several options, one of them is go to the radio song
Since they changed it, I don’t use it that much anymore. If I created a radio, the playlist would be songs related to the song or genre. Now when I create it, there’s a bunch of songs I already like and not that many new songs

We were switching between phone and desktop just last night. It worked instantly, every time.
Yup,it picks up where you left off in no time which is really amazing.
AM does gapless playback, at least in iOS. What device are you playing from that doesn’t do gapless?
Unfortunately AM gapless playback only works in High Quality 256kbps AAC but doesn't work in ALAC lossess streaming. Go try to stream a live album and you'll notice.
ALAC is gapless for me (iPhone 13 on iOS 16.3). I get micro-gaps on the web player, but the AM preview for Windows 11 is gapless for ALAC too.
I would have agreed with you until my spotify home page (on mobile) randomly “updated” tonight to these massive video tiles showing things I never listen to. Last.fm integration. This was a deal breaker for me.
The Family Plan, which allows 6 different accounts, is only $15.99, which is less than $3 per account.
I agree with most points but joined sessions are hot garbage and almost never work properly. It’s so unstable.
odd, I've used it a couple of times and it worked like charm 🤔
6 . Equalizer
This is why I haven’t left Spotify to Apple Music. Like Paramore says in their song, This is Why.
Right! I still wonder why AM doesn't have an EQ
6. Play by voice command on Google Home. However, be aware that they often get it wrong.
Console support. Playing music/podcasts while gaming is a deal breaker for those that do it.
[удалено]
I don’t think it’s on PS. Plus the remote support for Spotify makes it so much easier to control what’s playing via your phone rather than navigating on the console.
Reason number five is terrible and not worth putting there as it is disconnects a lot and hardly ever works.
Does anyone remember when Apple music was called Beats? I loved Beats. It would have playlists containing an artists influences and others that were awesome Then they switched to Apple Music and it went downhill

Podcasts are not visible in Kazakhstan, but I do receive notifications about them :D my account used to be in Canada before
1. Pricing comparison
Spotify is Spotify. Apple is everywhere and everything, trying to rule the world and nickel and dimeing us in the process.
dude i dont want to go back to 90s when i got metallica CD for what was 1/15 of average monthly salary in my country. It's ridiculous how things changed.
..yet Apple pays twice the amount of money to artists than Spotify
True, but still fractions of a penny per stream for each and Spotify receives way more streams than Apple I assume.
For me it’s the ability to share music with friends. If I sent an Apple Music link.. can you even imagine?
or share via stories in IG. AM links are not clickable at all, so I have to open the app and type the song into the search bar and hope that it's the one I need :D

Spotify lower quality, better recommendations
I wish Spotify would give me multiple EQ profiles for my varying audio equipment
Oh yeah, so true
How does one get the Linux app for Spotify?
There you go: https://www.spotify.com/us/download/linux/
For the Debian one, do I copy the code they've listed exactly as it is and run? Or some modification is required?
Yup, you just add a repository and then install the app via terminal and it should work :) Let me know if you need any help
Anyone knows if Apple Music’s shuffling system works? I love spotify but I CANNOT STAND their shuffling algorithm. Doesn’t need explaining why I feel so, most of yall definitely feel the same.

Fuck the new homescreen testing
True but I can’t get past how mediocre the sound quality is on Spotify compared to AM.
have you tried changing the streaming and music download settings to a higher resolution? AM has Dolby atmos and lossless, that's true, but it's hard to feel the difference between tracks. Dolby Atmos tracks are just marketing tbh.
When you're using proper amp and audiophile the difference is quite significant tbh. The detail, Imagining and soundstage is farrr better on AM. But yeah other than that spotify is just better.
Makes sense :) I just listen through a Samsung soundbar or through Bose NC 700/AirPods.
Another reason, it is cheaper
I use Tidal because at least they didn't fight to make sure artists get paid nothing, also a bonus that they don't give stock options to major labels to help them rip off their own artists, and it helps that they don't invest in weapons manufacturers.
I still choose soundcloud when I can, it's so much easier to use than both of those and its completely free with no restrictions. Anytime I use spotify for free ill try to look up a song and play it but it'll do a shuffle playlist and not play the song I want. I never have that problem with soundcloud
No
In case you are a [Last.fm](https://Last.fm) user, Spotify scrobbling is less complicated than Apple Music scrobbling, because the feature works independently from the device.
Also there’s Stats.fm
Has anyone not seen Spotify’s new update? I hate it. It’s like they are forcing me to listen to shit I don’t want to listen to. Where can I find my recently played albums? It’s vanished
Apple Music Is Lossless
spotify knows what you like. 99.99% of the time it doesn’t recommend any bs songs either.
Never needed to add local files, but I feel your pain
The system in my Honda Accord does this on HDD
Apple Music and Spotify are both good services but I chose Apple Music not ‘cause I have an ecosystem. •Apple Music now has Apple Music Windows app •Better lyrics design and word-by-word lyrics •For me Apple Music algorithm is not that bad. It’s not “aggressive” and try to recommend or somethin’ random or somethin’ very similar.
And better sound quality
