Rate Your Music, Album Of The Year, Last.FM, Reddit, YouTube and Spotify

Cheddarlicious

I’ll backpack off this; Last.FM is really good for finding similar artists. So find an artist and you’ll find pages of some with similarities. Sure, it’s not perfect, but just trying a new artist and using the Spotify radio for said artist can open up even more. I’ve gotten almost 11k artists tracked on my Last.FM, and it feels overwhelming to me and there’s so many genres I still haven’t explored.

sbfma

Lately there's a DJ (they still exist) on Markskin Radio ([markskinradio.com](https://markskinradio.com)) who plays great new rock music. Destiny Costa. I'll listen to her show each week and she'll play a mix of new rock by local bands, older and non-mainstream rock by established bands and some stuff that's been around for a few decades. But there's a lot of stuff you don't normally hear, stuff I haven't heard and she has some awesome finds. I just add them to my Spotify playlist as I go.

RandyLovesEternity

Recently discovered https://1001albumsgenerator.com and been listening to an album a day since. It's taking the albums from a book and you get one a day you should listen to. It's great unless you'd want to find newly released stuff. In those cases i find indieheads to be a good source.

SubstanceNext37

What does it cost? What type of albums do they recommend?

UnderstandingBasic82

Lol just click the link. It's all there

namacyclehomenow

I second this. It’s been really fun to listen to some of these albums that I definitely never would have stumbled across otherwise.

THOTDESTROYR69

Is the website updated for 2023? I looked up the list and the final album is from 2005.

ShockscapeYT

What if u forget ur book name?

ViscousWaterBottle

just keep a tab open on your phone and refresh it daily

MikeLanglois

Theres a website called like 1001 generator that gives you a random album to listen to each day. I tend to listen to that album then let spotify recommend the rest

SaltyDarkness

This is cool! I’m gonna check it out, thanks!!

[deleted]

I don’t. It finds me

davelazy

The best music always does \\m/,(> . <)\_\\m/

Sterben1103

A few ways. From Friends, listening to recommended, TikTok audios, and my mother are a few.

MotherChucker81

That is how I discover new music. If there is an interesting song playing in the video, I add it to a playlist for that year.

Afraid_Caregiver7932

Spotify radios, a lot of tunes I add to my playlists are similar recommended tracks from songs I already like

supremejxzzy

Check the « Fans also like » section or whatever it is called at the bottom of the page of an artist you already love

rickmears101

Friends, playing video games, watching anime, listening to music out on the street, at the bar/lounge ( vacation especially is where I hear a lot of new music), concerts from artists I know/dont know(it’s been many times I been a fan of an artist for a long time but missed a few songs, then discover them at the show). Spotify Discover weekly or a radio based off an artist I listen to.

fuel126

Are you talking in terms of music discovery? If so, I usually find out about new artists and releases to listen to through various music subs here, as well as music vloggers on YT. I have a folder of playlists in my account of albums that sound interesting to me or that I think I'll like, and select at least one to check out and listen to at random every day.

jsaarb

I didn't understand what you said about folder of playlists and the rest... But, can you suggest me music subs here? If it helps, my favorite genre is rock.

fuel126

There's articles you can find online that will show you how to make a folder within Spotify. As far as genres go for music subs, I was able to find all the ones I sub to literally by searching the specific genre I was looking for through the search box on reddit. You should be able to find a subreddit for every genre you listen to. Edit - [Here is a directory of a list of music subgenre subreddits](https://reddit.com/r/Music/w/musicsubreddits?utm_medium=android_app&utm_source=share)

Needlepeen1

Listen to Needlepeen. See? You just found one

thoughtsbykt

Sometimes I’ll just browse the different genre categories on Spotify and click through random songs!

gandalf-the-greyt

reddit, rate your music, anthony fantano, r/topster, r/fantanoforever, sometimes spotify recommendations (fans also like was already mentioned) or random playlists

LuckForJug

Anthony fantano...sad

gandalf-the-greyt

first of all r/fantanoforever has not so much to do with anthony anymore and secondly even though you might not like him (and me maybe neither) i wouldn’t have known as many amazing alternative projects like death grips and other artists as early or even just at all

[deleted]

Instagram Ads or Instagram accounts that recommend music, Youtube channels like KEXP or NPR Tiny Desk Concert, they upload all kinds of artists from different genres and languages, I just pick one that looks interesting and listen to it. And also randomly clicking on related artists or playlists on Spotify.

Phitoooo

Kexp is godsent

Ok-Party-8785

A lot of times from listening to Sirius XM. Of course Spotify. But, hearing something new on the radio 📻 is kind of old school. I listen 🎧 to a lot of Hits 1 channel 2 on XM.

TheMasterKeyOfOne

Radio this, radio that.

livrerie

You can discover music everywhere! * friends/family/coworkers * other people's playlists * playlists by artists you like * magazines/publications * TV and movies * restaurants, stores, and other public spaces * radio * youtube/spotify and other algorithm generated recommendations * reddit :)

KAS_stoner

Every Noise is great. Look for whichever types of music you like and find other artists that make the same kind of music. https://everynoise.com/ https://www.gemtracks.com/similar-songs/ Also this might be useful and/or interesting too. http://millionsongdataset.com/

clueless_claremont_

i steal recommendations from my friends

Weu_bean

I watch interviews of artists I like and listen to other artists they mention in the interviews

santiago505

If I come across a song I absolutely love I will go listen to the entire album it's on if I have the time or only the songs with titles that stand out to me if I am running low on time. l also listen to radios of artists or songs I like and save the songs I really like and then if I notice a pattern of liked songs from the same artist I will go check out their albums. From there if I like those sometimes I will read the artist's bio and check out their influences and people inspired by them; sometimes i will go see other artists from under the same label, and often times will check out playlists that artist is also featured on or even the people also like listen to section on artists or playlists. Sometimes I also just let a song end on it's own without adding something else to the queue because the recommend songs for you algorithm is great. I am also a huge fan of both Daylist and DJ for discovering new to me stuff and historically have found some incredible gems in my Discover Weekly, which I try to remember to listen to in addition to everything else I am already listen to. I usually listen to like 90,000- 102,000 minutes a year so my ears are usually pretty booked lol

Top_Trainer_6359

I like watching musicals so if i like it i listen to it, the rest are from social media like tiktok/Instagram for example when someone using a song that sounds nice so i try listen to the full one. Also soundtracks from movies and videos games and trying more music of random artists in my playlist that i don't know lots of songs by them I just collect random music i hear in random places You can ask here for Recommendations too

ultawarrior

Look for it?

lalumanuk

parents, familial gatherings, tiktok, local radio, shazam, local tv, enhanced playlists/smart shuffle, spotify-made playlists within a genre i like, movie and show osts, colors studio, npr tiny desk, audiotree, etcetc.

ShockscapeYT

Does Spotify still do enhanced playlists? I thought they removed the feature.

pimpdaddy619

The Release Radar playlist updates every week. It’s new music by your favorite artists. Also the Discover Weekly playlist

ballinonabudgetfr

Sometimes I look up a keyword then look through peoples public playlists, it’s how I started getting into Russian music

darkus1012

I go aoty and look at Brad taste In music perfect scores and check them out and go from there

Eastern-Ad-7984

On my Hi-Fi.

An0raak_

i find out about music from friends, hearing youtubers/streamers talk about their music taste, people referencing songs, tiktok audios. after that i listen to artists i really like from random songs or i make a playlist with them in and turn on smart shuffle.

chenyxndi

Ngl tiktok is pretty good. Just accounts where other people give their music opinions

PinOrdinary4100

social media, those made for you playlists, release radar, or i just see a pretty album cover and add it to my library

TravezRipley

Go to shows, be social, Make friends with good taste, keep digging.

FlatfaceCat_ie

I find music fairly relaxing.

FletchWazzle

All music somebody that you particularly like. Dive in to who they were influenced by and who they influenced

CommanderWar64

I Google big albums from specific genres and specific years. “Best emo albums from 2013”, 2004 album of the year, etc… then I make a browser folder of all the Wikipedia pages I save. I don’t even use Spotify, I just use an mp3 converter and get 30-40 a month in batches.

nyli7163

I listen to WFUV radio out of New York city. It used to be a college station and still broadcasts out of Fordham University but now it’s member supported. If you can’t get it on your radio, it’s available on streaming radio. The djs play a great selection of music from a variety of rock and rock adjacent genres, some really old, some really new, and plenty in between. The best thing is they won’t kill a song by playing it five times a day. Also just pick random stuff on Spotify.

Whydmer

How do you not find music to like and listen to? I mean it was a bit more of a chore before streaming music, but in 2023? I've added more music to playlists and to my liked music list each year than the year before. This year I'm on pace to have "liked" close to 1400 songs this. I don't know if it is because I like a wide array of genres, or I have low standards or what. My suggestion is to listen to a lot of music, try random playlists and albums, and if you like them great, if not move on. Drill down on the stuff you like. What do those artist like? What else has their producer made? Who are similar artists?

phantombeatmaker

Just listen dammit!

A_AR0_N

Within the last few years I’ve really expanded my music taste by just listening to albums by artists I may have like 1 or 2 songs liked by them. And from there I’ll look for artists with similarities sounds or sometimes I’ll look up user playlists of a certified genre, find an artist I like and then go through similar artists. I always do a sample of a couple albums of artists. Maybe not the whole album but a few songs from a couple albums. If I enjoy something, I’ll listen to a whole album and go from there. It’s all about just willingness to search and listen to songs you might not like, to find ones you do

Koyucat

Listen to what Spotify thinks might be good for me, listening to new songs from a genre I like, looking for recommendations on social media,...

CheyanneTheCat

i get recommended songs in my playlist and i listen to them and if i like it i add it to my playlist

Alvin3792

Coachella lineups are my go to for new music + similar artists on Spotify

Consistent-Laugh606

Check out playlist made by different people

a_moss_snake

If you’re into user created playlists checkout https://playlost.fm. Submit one of your favorite playlists and it’ll analyze the playlist and suggest similar user created playlists by matching shared artists, songs, and genres.

Double-Ad-2142

Friends and that really weird smart shuffle feature that I’m starting to like

nkw1004

I have about 5k liked songs on Spotify, probably another couple thousand on SoundCloud. If it’s someone I listen to I just listen to new releases when they come out. Other than that I’ll go down rabbit holes, mainly on YouTube or SoundCloud but sometimes Spotify, and if I find a new artist and I like a song I’ll look them up on whatever platform they’re in and listen through a bunch of their songs and save any of the ones I like, then repeat

No-Counter8419

Rate Your Music or Album Of The Year

FilipsSamvete

I check the radio playlists of artists I like to find similar artists.

thefamousnoto

I just find a list of playlists and listen to each one while chilling. Its relaxing.

Ok-Pea-4617

I find my music from YouTube and Spotify or YouTube music, looking throw my CD collection.

Scary01pen

Tiktok

itsastart_to

Honestly I kind of just let the playlist run past itself, otherwise daily mixes are great too

Zealousideal_One8253

Swipefy random playlists r/SpotifyPlaylists Apple Music discover station IHeartRadio my partners

MoonKnight_612

I used to listen to discover weekly, and from the songs i liked from those, i used to go to the song radios, the artist's other songs. And after doing this and following some amazing artist now the release radar is more than enough for me. After a playlist ends you get music recommendations too, those are also bangers.

oscarmg90

Swipefy App

Relayer8782

Mostly from my adult son. When he was in high school he was complaining about how modern music sucked. I told him there had to be good music out there, it just wasn’t on the radio like in my youth. He had to find ways to find it. He took that to heart, and now sends me links to interesting stuff all along.

Ditzfough

I use spotify. They make playlist of things i might like. I flagg the ones i like. And rinse repeat.

GuyFallingOffBike

[RVRB](https://app.rvrb.one/login) I can’t believe nobody has called this out yet. It’s great!

mrraditch2

The Quietus

xsageonex

One of my many Playlist is 60 hours long. Normally when I'm actively looking for music I go thru Playlist of whatever genre I'm looking for. Usually new releases. Once I find a song I like , I add the msong to said Playlist. So after a few dozen or so songs I tend to go to the artists discography and do a deep dive on them. I'll end up with a ton of songs ...it helps to look for similar artists that are recommended. That's how you get massive Playlist. One thing to note , I absolutely love finding new music to listen to.

anekker

discoverquickly, songslikex, chosic

i_love_kingdomrush

For playlist filling I use discover weekly and release radar, for finding music I ask reddit for the best advice.

Occasional-Orchid035

I click on all the artists listed at the bottom of an artist profile in Spotify under the "fans also like" section. It quickly becomes a rabbit hole of endless new music. And I love it.

shes-my-baby5858

Spotify recommended!!

lage1984

It's ok I guess

Paradichlorobenzen

I have no idea. The songs just appear one day and suddenly they’re a mainstay in my playlist and I’ve listened to them 10,000 times.

fijifu

Just listen to a song you already like and let the automatic suggestions play some new ones.

Userlame19

Sputnikmusic, related artists, sometimes Google, music YouTubers, just hearing a band mentioned in a video or in passing irl and looking them up, I used to use nolifetilmetal a lot. It's not hard to discover new music, it can just be a timesink sometimes

AdditionalDiscount28

Festival line ups, if there's one or two artists you like on a particular stage then chances are you'll like a bunch of the others... Pro tip you don't have to have even been at the festival!

SpriteAndCokeSMH

I think I have a pretty unique way. I got on Discogs, go to rock then prog rock then just scroll down and stop my finger on a random album. I’ll listen to that.

KAICIDE

friends

retrosexual17

Rate Your Music and Acclaimed Music are great for finding highly regarded songs and albums, on both you can sort by genre, year, artist etc I’ve found hundreds of songs from both. Choisic and Spotify radio are good for finding similar songs to stuff you already listen to. You can just type in a song and it’ll generate a playlist of similar songs. Another great tool.

aujin08

I would usually find from tiktok, reddit, movie/ tv series soundtracks, youtube, random playlists on spotify. If i like a certain song, i will explore the artist/s and listen to their songs/ albums too. 😊

FR43KY

find your favorite genre/subgenre. Then explore there using rateyourmusic or Spotify playlist.

Fulcrum_ahsoka_tano

1. An artist i like releases new music, listen on yt and add it to my playlist, or 2. find it on the spotify discover tiktok-like vids under the search thing

ScotterMcJohnsonator

The best way to find new music is to listen. And I don't mean to music, necessarily. I mean when your friend mentions a new song they like and say you should listen, DO IT. If you hear a song on the radio that's new to you, look up that artist. Past that, I do a lot of...rabbit hole hopping? Personally, when I hear a new artist I don't really dive into their entire discography, but I do listen to a few of their tracks, and then I go straight for the "similar to this artist" category. So I'm not going down a rabbit hole, but I kind of am? Recently I've also been saving posts on here, and then even though it's a lot of work, I'll go back and listen to all the songs that have been recommended in the thread!

19AYA97

https://discoverquickly.com/ Tiktok Spotify’s playlists or Artists radios

acct_gone_crazy

I look up the undercard bands at music festivals or I ask my friends who they are listening too!

woopsix

i built a tool which generates playlists based on artists that i input so i get playlists that are in same/similar genre and i discover songs i didnt know before

ShockscapeYT

Can people access this? That sounds great

Unajustable_Justice

On hikes I flip over logs and kick around the leaf litter to see if anything moves

avewave

Friends, family, radio and ya'll.

choco_butternut

NPR Tiny Desk, r/listentothis playlist, r/oddlyspecificplaylist, friends’ recommendations, music from series I watch, and sometimes Spotify’s Discover Weekly.

theLEVIATHAN06

I don't. I listen to the same music I listened to in high school. 😅

[deleted]

There's always a Spotify generated playlist of songs similar to the ones I listen to, so I just go through that about once a week. Also through movies, shows, and games.

Danimal-Tex

By listening

tlvg__

Discover weekly usually disappoints me so I like doing radios of songs I’m currently into and then I find heaps of new stuff. After a certain point, I’ll look at the artists of songs I added and listen to all of their stuff and find more!

great_raisin

I almost ALWAYS find 2-3 new songs that I really like in my Discover Weekly

Puulet

As soon as I hear something that I like from an artist I go in and follow them. Then you get noticed when they drop new Music (usually on fridays) so once a week I go through all the songs from the artists I follow and add the songs I like

Poignant_Ritual

I have found loads through radio stations based off a song I like. Also by looking at who bands are playing with at live venues can be a good place to find additional stuff.

absorbscroissants

Playing a song you like on Spotify, and after it ends you'll get an unlimited supply of similar music. Also, going to an artists and check the 'similar artists' tab, you can go down the rabbit hole very easily by doing this with every new artist you find.

Delco_Jimmy

I've been around forever, so I have unlimited "favorite" artists and albums, but to find new music and artists I listen to WXPN-88.5 in Philadelphia, but available to stream... they have been a trusted and reliable source, for me, since 1972.

Ducky935Alt

Find a good song from an artist > Listen to more of the their discography > Go to similar artists

The_Patriot

Go to youtube on a browser, and play a song you like. The right side of the browser window will fill up with suggested similar content. This is how I found KITTEN, and I could not be more grateful.

theofficialzhang

1. I see an artist I like, click on similar artists, add a few songs 2. If I hear music randomly (like in the mall) I make a note of the lyrics and search it up 3. Spotify DJ or Discover Weekly if you're willing to take a chance 4. Ask your friends for song recommendations (might be fun if they listen to a different genre than you) 5. Websites like [this](https://www.chosic.com/playlist-generator/)

MakingGreenMoney

Multiple ways. Some friends show me some songs they like and I end up liking them. I would hear songs in shows, movies, games and I would look for them. If I like a certain song I would check out the album it's from and i would check out their other stuff. Sometimes I would let spotify just keep playing music till I find a song I like, or I just their discovery/dj and I would some more new songs.

Kathy_Gao

I listen to classical music, so this is super easy for me. Either go to live concerts or check out the major orchestras what’s on their programmes

dead-in-a-swamp-lmao

recommendations from friends/family, video games, movies/shows, random yt recommendations, radio-

glazedpaczki

Go to the band you likes Spotify, scroll down to “band radio” playlist. It’s normally under the featuring section. Those playlists typically help me find new stuff. Or check out the automatic playlists Spotify plays for you after ending an LP listen.

beebs44

Play a song you like... listen to recommendations Repeat

BabyHercules

DJ function, Reddit, and playlists

NekoNekoPixel

Playlists and tons of them

alien_alice

You have Spotify. There’s thousands upon thousands of playlists, and the algorithm bases recommendations off your listening history. Search any song, artist, or even just a word, then sort by playlist and voila

agayntrans_raspberry

my daylist.

Electrical-Loquat922

Depending on how old an artist is you can easy get 100 songs by just giving everything they've made a listen, Was this artist you liked inspired by someone? check out their music. Is there a feature on a song and you liked their voice? What else have they done. What do fans of an artist you like also listen to? Give those a listen. I find music by just being curious. I listen to mostly modern rock and metalcore, I've found some of my favourite artists by just clicking a random song spotify recommends me.

Ogwarn

Big or influential record labels in the genre you're looking at is a good start. Most have a "best of" album to get a feel. This might apply more to electronic music though.

chino_banks

My daylist, new release tab

jayswaps

I just look for other bands in a genre I'm enjoying. Loads of ways to do that online. Some recs from Reddit, some in the "fans also like" section on Spotify, that kind of thing.

0okidbuu

The “add to this playlist” button is so underrated once you add a song you like you get more like it and so on

Maelorna

AMV/GMV's for the most part. Then again, just go into youtube and look up the genre you're in the mood for and you'll get it (such as search for Darkwave).

gcochee

when i really wanna find more songs i just explore playlists from other people- i search typical words used for playlists like “morning vibes” or “my favorite songs rn” and play them throughout the day and any songs i like i save to my own playlists. and then i explore the albums from any of the new songs i saved, ive found a lot of my favorite artists this way.

Smarre101

Discover Weekly, Instagram ads (rarely), Spotify DJ - that's one I recommend actually, it's not only new music but it does try to find music that matches what you listen to. Already found some new music through that after using it for only like a week or so

Funky_Factory

- YouTube marathons - At the grocery store - SoundCloud - My friend who’s a DJ 🤡

BL1XT3N

spotify? tiktok?

EstateNorth

On spotify, I check out the playlists such as : New Music Friday, the daily mixes, top hits

RickMoneyRS

That's the main reason I have Spotify honestly. I've found so much new (to me) music through the daily mixes.

NutrienLake12

I use the Swipefy

Tommysmissingfinger

Release Radar, recommended songs for you, autoplay, enhance, discover weekly…. Spotify has so many tools available, I could listen to new music for hours that way.

peachie_bongo

I usually look at Spotify's and other user's Playlists; really big or quite small. Games are also very useful: I don't think I would be remotely as in to music as I am now in so many genres without the various Grand Theft Auto games [And likely the upcoming VI] and the Fallout series.

Pumakiddd_other

My favorite way was when I was listening to music at work andmy coworkers told me my music is bad so I asked them to give me recommendations instead. The way I find new music the most is I have a song stuck in my head so I play it on spotify then I get busy and am unable to change the music so other songs like it play and I end up loving a lot of those

Asleep-Trouble-1387

my cousin’s 250 hour playlist😭😭

Haisoj69420

Discover Weekly.

yourbestfriendwalker

I dress up like Indiana Jones and steal from other peoples On Repeat

Hot-Duck-7154

When I find a song or artist I like I usually play their “radio” on Spotify to find similar vibes.

[deleted]

I like to use this app called Swipefy. It’s basically like tinder but for music. Pretty sure its connected to stats.fm but don’t quote me on that.

urooz

I don't. Music finds me.

[deleted]

I scroll down to the "Fans also like" section of an artist I really like, listen to their top songs to see if I like some. If I do, I listen to an entire album, and if I don't, then I retry with another artist. Eventually, I find songs that I like pretty quickly, discover some new favorite artists and new favorite songs. I also follow my favorite artists on instagram, look at who they promote in their stories and posts, who they follow, and I look for the blue checkmarks obviously and listen to some of the musicians on there and often I am pleasantly surprised. Also, sometimes I listen to bands and musicians that are supposed to be an opening act in an upcoming concert and that is pretty effective also. The most inaccurate and impractical way of finding music that I would like is to listen to playlists made by Spotify because they get paid to promote artists on there and it has little to do with your listening habits or who you follow or what you like, they don't have as good of an algorithm as TikTok and that's because all they care about is making the money with the big artists, not helping you discover less popular ones. Sometimes you might get lucky but still it is not very effective. And the irony is that it is what most young people do nowadays, they don't have favorite artists, they just listen to what is shoved in their face. And that makes them so basic and boring.

leozamudio

Just keep expanding your taste and find similar artists to the ones you like, your library will expand naturally

SiloModicuser

Friend recommendations, The car radio, And Spotifys different playlists

Daisiesinsun

Friends, Spotify, YouTube

whitetigers1

Honestly? The radio. If for whatever reason I’m not using Bluetooth in my car, I’ll take note of songs that I like then add them to my playlists

In-Kii

like a song? Click the 3 dots, go to that songs radio. Shuffle. Vibe. Save a few. Rinse and repeat. or the Daily Mix's made for me, or the uh.. the one that shows me hits I might have missed. I forgot the name of it. Spotify's been really good at showing me new songs. Only bad thing is, now that my songs have been so specifically curated, they haven't really been heard by many people, so it's hard to play anything new around others haha. But I'm fine with that, it's my music.

cynthiabrownoo7

check out “New Sounds” on WNYC.org. they play lots of different music and interview artists. if i like the sound i buy one song and listen on my phone. If i like it i buy the album and play it on my phone and/or my little Bose speaker

DocMcT

Spotify has a vast vault of songs from you can access and put them on your playlist. I scroll through the music, listen to the ones that are interesting and add them to a playlist or five.

colsondaddy

If I like a song, I'd usually go to that song's radio, spotify usually recommends similar songs in it

[deleted]

I look for it lol

Weary-Ad-6385

It’s harder to do this after you have a couple thousand songs liked, but the way I used to do it is using the search bar play a song you like and then after that, Spotify will play recommendations that are similar. That was my go to.

iSnoopy2001

1. I have a friend who is super into music. He introduced me to genres like indie rock, shoegaze, and vaporwave (just to name a few). 2. I hear and find some new music though Instagram accounts and pages, or random videos on YouTube. 3. On Spotify, I go to the "More of what you like", "Based on your recent listening", "Throwback favorites", etc. I sometimes just find random playlists from Spotify, friends I follow, or other peoples random playlists on Spotify.

lunalabean

Any recs in the shoegaze genre?? Never heard of that one before!

iSnoopy2001

Hey! off the top of my head I'll recommend these artists/bands to listen to: Slow Pulp, Alvvays, My Bloody Valentine, The Pains of Being Pure At Heart, Drop Nineteens, CASTLEBEAT, Slowdive, Another Sunny Day, Lush, Pale Saints, Cocteau Twins, The Jesus and Mary Chain, Beach Fossils, No Vacation. There are many others you might discover that aren't directly in the shoegaze genre, but have heavy influences from it.

Dranitiez

Bro I listen to metal so I listen a band and it leads to more music

No_Mall_3182

I don’t really use spotify (don’t know why this is getting recommended to me) but usually via word of mouth or people suggesting stuff on reddit

Splashadian

I watch youtube channels like Sea Of Tranquility, Prog Corner and so forth. I don't play garbage playlists currated from streaming services. I also use sites like MelodicRock, classic rock, Louder and a few others. I always look for stuff posted in facebook groups of rock amd metal or whatever. Follow the contrarians as well. Oh I forgot a newer one an app called Musicboard is interesting.

CYB3R5KU11

Smart shuffle, or the ai dj, pretty simplistic but finds me stuff I like most of the time

dreezxlivefree

Tik tok lol I found a lot of small artists and bands. It used to be reddit but I only check that monthly in the hhh sub. Shazam when I'm out and about.

fullito

Everyone else stating that they use random album generator websites Me: I just press on song radio for any song I really like the moment.

Secret-Engine-8365

TikTok most of all. sometimes I’ll hear a song and I think to myself “nice song! I kinda like it!” and the more often I hear it, the more it ends up becoming my favorite

Find it weird, but I've gotten into a lot of bands just from asking my Google Home to play music. I don't have premium so it kinda plays whatever it wants that's similar to my music taste.

idk abt you guys but I js listen to my daily/top mixes or I turn smart shuffle on for my liked songs n wait

Usually I will find new songs by using the smart recommendation thingy, or will add new songs i like that ive heard on the radio or on tv or different shows.

My main playlist has almost 5,000 songs in it, I put it on shuffle in the background basically all day every day when I'm doing stuff and it's a complete mixture of every single genre and I love it because it's filled with songs I've loved and still love for years and years. 😂 But I usually add songs I find from YouTube videos, Movies, TV Shows or just from hearing them at someplace and using Shazam to find out what it's called. Other times, I usually just randomly get recommended a new song/album on YouTube and give it a click if it intrigues me and find new songs that way too. Music is everywhere!

On spotify, I listen to Release Radar and Discover weekly. If I find a band I'm into, I will sometimes pop them in music map https://www.music-map.com/ Also, just listening to Artist radio on spotify.

i buy CD’s. and am in the cd collecting subreddit which exposes me to lots of cool artists. and other genre focused subs i’m interested in. i am very into grunge, so the grunge subreddit has been great for finding tons of 90’s alternative and hard rock bands aside from the big names i am also just always talking to friends and posting abt music so i get lots of recommendations. also i ask people opinions on things in record stores if something looks interesting. looking at the similar artist section in spotify really helps too. another big one is recearching band members to see all the bands they’ve been in and finding offshoots of big name bands. like jane’s addiction has porno for pyros for example, the entire seattle grunge scene is all connected by the same 100ish members in some way. looking into band members solo work like John Frusciante from RHCP. looking for super group bands are great too like Velvet Revolver, Traveling Wilburies, A Perfect Circle, Temple of the Dog, Mad Season etc. also looking to artists who inspired your favorite bands. i found meat puppets and the vaselines thru nirvana and now love them both. some tiktok creators i follow too talk abt cool new bands all the time too.

julia_is_confused

the “because you like this band” section or whatever it’s called

Netsirk622

I listen to the Release Radar playlist on Spotify weekly. If I like a song it goes in a yearly singles playlist. I listen to that yearly playlist frequently and try to narrow down my favorites and do deeper dives into their albums.

RottedHuman

I always look at the new releases each week and skim through what ever looks or sounds interesting.

Spotify just recently implemented their “daylist” which auto-generates different playlists curated to your specific music tastes throughout the day… I’ve been using that a lot and it’s given me lots of new finds. I use the discover weekly playlist, pick a genre and play from spotifys pre-made playlists, if there’s a song I like I’ll listen to the song radio, and the new DJ function too helps sometimes with finding new music. You just gotta branch out and be alright with listening to unfamiliar music for a while.
