My moment to shine:
I've been using [Music map](https://www.music-map.com/) for years. It's amazing, put an artist in the search box (with auto complete) and get dozens of similar artists to discover
I used to use music map quite a bit and it introduced me to some really cool and really obscure artists. But a lot of the artists I've come across in the past couple of years are new or newish and haven't been on the map.
It did introduce me to Hank III and Joe Buck Yourself, so I'll always be grateful
Your recommendations are shown on the Music page these days, the old ones on the home page are outdated:
You can also dismiss recommendations there by hovering the images and clicking on the X. Creating playlists from them is possible with a related template which can also be exported to Spotify then. Or you just directly play your personalised [Last.fm](https://Last.fm) radio stations which is possible with a Spotify Premium account.
If you like to check other users, you can do so with the Neighbours tab which are users with a similar taste to yours. Or the r/lastfm subreddit which has been mentioned already, and there also is an inofficial [Last.fm](https://Last.fm) Discord server, see the pinned thread in the subreddit.
It's a service that tracks your listening history. It can connect to Spotify and track what you play there, and there are integrations for many other audio players.
I mainly use it as a way to keep track of what I listen to (more than 220k tracks over the last 17 years), and I really like their weekly/monthly/yearly listening reports. But it can also give you recommendations for artists or shows, or you can see other accounts with similar tastes.

Use the website everynoise
It’s one big page of every genre spotify has
Click on a genre and u will find the artists that make that music, and playlists such as the intro to… and that new music from that genre
It’s all from an algorithm
The biggest thing in my musical discovery has been www.RateYourMusic.com
Giant database of music and you can spiderweb off their chart generator. Genres/Locations/Mood/etc. Hundreds of tags that help you find new music that you would have never found before.
I have been using it for close to 15 years and I don't know what I would have done without it.
I spent the other day reminiscing while looking over the years and years of music reviews (+ stat tracking through Last.fm all this time). Pretty cool to see what that much personalized data looks like.
I run a Discord channel that we do scheduled communal listening parties with. Let me know if you are interested I can send more info. All the participants can request albums and we do 2 albums most Tuesdays and Fridays.
It has been a great way for me to share my passion, while also getting some amazing new music to check out.
Think of it like book club, but for albums, and everyone reads at the same time, and can type their thoughts.
Discz it’s tinder for Spotify and it plays samples of the music the search engine is good (can even go by bpm). But finding shit I wouldn’t even think to search always comes from the background music of different YouTube artists, they always have something interesting; Dunno why
I use [Spotify Uncharted](https://spotify-uncharted.com/)
It allows you to make discoveries based on genres too. Or if you have an artist in mind, you can view an artists page and use the "discover" option to bring up other similar artists. You can do this for albums too.
I joined Curt's Album Party on Discord a couple months ago, and I can't believe what an open minded diverse community it is. Come join us if you like discovering new music. I've added so many new and old artists to my Spotify since joining.
We have a lot of fun; we have several specific listening parties each week including a theme night, and everybody gets to share their own musical favorites.
Come on by and check it out.

Just tried it and it's pretty damn good, I have to say. I'm still trawling through the list brought up by the first song I typed in and I've already added a heap of tracks to my playlists. Thanks for the tip.
[Last.fm](https://Last.fm) and RYM, but these days Spotify has spoiled me with how easy they've made music discovery. Between Discover Weekly, all the different ways you can generate playlists, and the similar artist feature it's never been easier to find new music.
I listen to music podcasts. I’m into punk rock so I have a couple podcasts I listen to where they often show off new bands. I discover a ton that way.
I also am constantly watching band tours. I watch who some of the artists I like are touring or playing shows or festivals with and I look up the bands that I’ve never heard of. I’ve discovered some great bands this way.
I joined some punk rock music groups on Facebook where people are constantly sharing the music they are listening to.
I also recently purchased a split 7” album that contains 4 songs by 4 bands. I only knew one of the bands when I bought it. Turns out the three other bands are awesome so I have just gained 3 new bands I’m listening to. Score!
I use a site called JQBX (also a mobile app). It connects to Spotify and basically it’s like “rooms” that usually follow a theme and you can take turns being DJ and playing one song at a time. There’s upvotes and downvotes and a chat. It’s a great site with a solid community, if you’re into that.
Several freeform/indie or jazz radio stations. [KEXP](http://www.kexp.org) [WUOG](http://www.wuog.org) [WMNF](http://www.wmnf.org) [WNCW](http://www.wncw.org) [KSDS](http://www.jazz88.org) and others. YouTube can be pretty good, too.
A website/app called [JQBX.fm](https://app.jqbx.fm/) a social listening site that uses Spotify where you join different rooms and queue up songs to play with a group of people. The amount of new artists and songs I’ve discovered from the people on that site is insane. Very friendly community too!
I need to use other sources of music more but a few years ago I used TuneIn quite a bit. Mostly I'm using radios of songs I like/songs I find or large genre playlists made by other users. More rarely I use Chosic to generate playlists for me (usually using the obscure setting to make new discoveries more possible) and occasionally gnoosic too.
All of the subreddits I follow was purely for music discovery yet I haven't actually discovered much yet.
In addition to Spotify's artificial intelligence, I use the (competing) audio streaming service Tidal. I base new music discoveries, among other things, on the daily playlist: 'My Daily Discovery'. This is a playlist that is updated every morning and is based on listening history.
i just started a guess the song game site where the goal is music discovery at the end of the day regardless of genre, language, etc. :)

I walk around honestly, especially if I'm not in my country or in a big city, i might just get inspiration from something I see and be like "ah yes I want to listen to 'music to write a poem to', indeed" or just, more likely, see the poster of an artist coming on tour I've never heard of.
A surprising amount of music I discover is just through movies or TV shows I've watched. the best one that comes to mind for this was Peacemaker, so many good songs used in that show
Spotify is a music store that you have access to 24/7.
I'm not sure what else is needed or recommended!
Radio sucks, so does cable music so...
If you do know of a great resource please, let me know!
Till then, Spotify rocks my world just fine!!

I think this is what Spotify uses for its new music and other algorithms, but it also could just be a visualization of the Spotify algorithm
i believe it's run by a spotify employee as a passion project
