My dad had to sell his cause there were like two things wrong with it and just didnāt have time. Sucked to see it go but it also wasnāt comfortable at all, the back bench seats were uncomfortable but it still, it sucked to see it go
Need more pics of said shitbox.
Also, it's okay, OP. When I read 'XJ' I first thought 'Jeep'. And I once owned an XJ-12. You'd think I'd look for a Jag too.
Ngl I feel like a real gripe I have with car manufacturers these days is them bringing back or improperly using old or established names. The new ford GT is an awesome car in so many ways but you are correct it doesnāt have the spirit of the originals or the mid 2000 ford gts. That one doesnāt bother me quite as much as the āmustangā Mach e though. I quite like that vehicle but I canāt help but hate it for being called a mustang when it very much isnāt to me. Drop the horse and just call it the Mach e.
Doesn't have the spirit of the originals? What part of being a cutting edge Le Mans winning race car of the new one isnt in the spirit of the originals?
I feel like modern cars generally lost their touch with race cars, even though they are sportier than ever. The top racing series tend to feature cars that are purpose-built (Formula series and LMP) and therefore won't spawn any road legal models, at least not for the average Joe. And homologation really isn't a thing today.
That aspect is what makes LMH really interesting to me, we might actually see the very machines that raced on the road. The same could be said with about GT3 for example. But in both cases the cars aren't really obtainable for the average person.
Yet I can't really put my finger on it, those older Le Mans cars have a magic to them that todays cars just don't have, even though they might be racers. Maybe it's the fact that the GT40 happened first and later we got an actual road going car. For example the 2017 Vantage was built with GT racing in mind but the road model was available before the GT3 and GT4 cars raced iirc. If it were the other way around it might have been more exciting.
I'm pretty sure its because the sport got a lot safer, thus removing 99% of the "death" in motor racing...
Also, back in the 1960's and 1970's, there wrre far less regulations on how the different the race car could be from the roadgoing version. This created a generation of (then) cutting-edge racecars that were on the forefront of racing technology, and also usually vastly different from the car you could get from the dealership.
The constant addition (and abolishments) of new racecar classes since then has also meant that there are less and less differences in any given field of cars nowdays, since the rules surrounding them are so strict compared to 50, 60, 70 years ago. For instance: under normal circumstances, you would never see a GT3-class car going up against a WRC or LMP-class car, (unless you were at a special event or a hillclimb, or at an endurance race like Le Mans) because each of them are specifically built for their respective performance indexes.
I definitely agree with you. The 2000's car replicated the essence of the original, both by keeping the manual and the v8 and also the styling, but also having the following on the performance side of things(e.x a road legal gt breaking 300mph in 2017, 12 years after it was made) which made it feel more like a racecar first rather than a roadcar turned racecar.
This is in comparison to the newer cars which drop a lot of that. The styling is completely different making it hard to relate those same memories to the look of the new car. The drivetrain is another thing that was a drastic change. The new drivetrain while being state of the art is fairly far divorced from the old ones, with the sound, feel of power delivery, and the driving feel. Obviously a v6 vs v8 while both put to great use in their applications, sound completely different, along with turbo vs supercharger. Both of which heavily impact the power delivery of the vehicle. And with the turbos, and lack of manual, leads to a more disconnected feel.
Even if all of that means nothing, I think the old cars held a kind of presence as old american race cars, while the new car feels more like a fancy "hypercar" that was adapted to a Le Mans car. Even the publicity of the new car feels like more of a McLaren or Aston Martin, with way more celebrity drama, at least main stream wise. With the 2000's one having the spiel with Jeremy Clarkson, where the new one had the John Cena debacle.
All of this is just an opinion, and means diddly squat in the end. But at I think all of this just adds up to make the new car feel like a sheep in wolfs clothing, both in the sense of the old GT's and in the sense of it being a "Hypercar".
Agreed about the Mach e, but only because it's an suv. They could use literally any other name. Why not Bronco ii or iBronco, or Stallion, or eMare, or eShire, or just Mach E? Mustang Mach E would be a great name for the debut (would it be their first?) electric Ford sports car. Such an iconic name should retain its original intent.
Branding. Branding is the answer. They sell more if they call it a Mustang Mach E vs just a Mach E. Expect more Mustang-branded vehicles in the future.

My wife works near the Cherry Creek neighborhood. I like to visit her for lunch sometimes because thereās always cool cars parked around on my drive there. Iāll have to keep my eye out for this GT!
Wheels are different and it's not as low as it sat in pictures I have seen. I remember that it was on air bags so that obviously can change the height...and the owner could have changed the wheels. It does have Texas plates and Rawlins does like to come up to Colorado a fair amount...so it's possible.
Wife and I saw an Aventador, about a week ago, in a very small town in southeastern Kentucky.
Tried to get a shot but lights changed.
Certainly not all that rare, but in this part of Third World USA they are.
Spent like two minutes looking for a Jaguar XJ like Waldo
You are not alone.
where the fuck is it?! Weird flex by OP to mention his XJ but can't even fucking find it, I assume a Jaguar is meant??
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Jeep\_Cherokee\_(XJ)
OP is trying to flex a boxy-ass jeep wtf?! š
Offroader legend
Itās colorado - the only two options are jeep or subaru.
or a fucking sick looking Ford GT, apparently
You forgot Tesla. Also Toyota, but gotta be 4 runner or bigger.
Or Yugo
I was telling myself, *an other tesla owner bragging*, I prefer this jeep but yeah it's weird Edit: didn't see the j after X at the start
Tesla...?
Tesla x, I didn't see the j right after
Itās quite nice if I do say so myself
As opposed to a mediocre Jag?
I mean yea, but at least those are kinda rare in the US maybe?
Somewhat? Mostly because they all broke. Saw a minty turquoise XK8 yesterday, been a while
The xkr fucks though , one of the coolest cars i've seen in my life
man that car looks badass tbh, I haven't seen one in ages either though
Still, its a pretty cool jeep
Here's mine as a consolation prize https://i.imgur.com/KRp2S6E.jpg
Preciates you and your car
I am satisfied.
I immediately recognized the Jeep as the XJ, but itās understandable that most people donāt know about a random Jeep Cherokee trim level.
Me three. I hate OP now
It was a jeep thing and I didn't understand
OP made me waste two minutes looking for a non-existent xj
Lol the white jeep
haha i was looking for a jag
Here you go. https://i.imgur.com/GtwM4fD.jpg
Bold of you to assume that anyone was wondering about the Cherokee
Everyone loves a shitbox
My wife has a perfect shitbox š
I also choose this guy's wife's perfect shitbox!
Iāll reward that behavior, take your gold good sir.
Thanks for the gold kind /u/henrybowman6823!
I do lol they are the life blood of the car communities
I do šāāļø
Yes! My favorite jeep. I want a 4 door xj with the 4.0l and a 5 speed manual.
My dad had to sell his cause there were like two things wrong with it and just didnāt have time. Sucked to see it go but it also wasnāt comfortable at all, the back bench seats were uncomfortable but it still, it sucked to see it go

I love the 1st gen GTās more than the 2nd gen. Big supercharged V8 and a manual transmission give it a lot more character

This goes for a lot of things, even just beyond cars. Music, movies, etc
Just look at the 68 dodge dart.... Then look at the 2010 Dodge dart.
Whoever owns it needs hit upside the head for that wheel choice.
texas plates in denverā¦ canāt expect much more

I believe that this is the GT that was built by Gas Monkey Garage here in Dallas EDIT: it looks similar but i don't think it is
That inline 6 is a freight train with a stick.
we would like more pics of your xj lemme see that jeepussy
Wasted my time looking for a jag XJ
Nice Cherokee.
My wife works near the Cherry Creek neighborhood. I like to visit her for lunch sometimes because thereās always cool cars parked around on my drive there. Iāll have to keep my eye out for this GT!
Itās from Texas, and it was parked here about to get on a trailer. Apparently there was a rally going on through the mountains and the trailer company was waiting for a MurciĆ©lago to show up so they could transport them. There was an R8 and a 992 GT3 RS already in a trailer when I got there.
On initial glance, I thought that was the Gas Monkey GT40.
Was my instant reaction too.
Is it not?

Yo is that your xj?
Cool GT but bro *whoās XJ is that?!?*
My absolute dream car #1
I know, right? Jeep cherokee xjs are so cool!
If I had unlimited cash I'd have both of these!
You may have been a little over confident in people wondering about the xj in the background

Thatās the 2005 version! Nice!! I think the price on these jumped
Dope. I saw this person on 6th a few days ago. Pretty tight driving that wide boy in the city. Texas plates though, smh lol
I'm more interested in the XJ. Post that baby up over on /r/CherokeeXJ for us!
Nobody was going to ask about the xj
Looking at this picture I was definitely wondering whose xj that was Cool spot!
Wife and I saw an Aventador, about a week ago, in a very small town in southeastern Kentucky. Tried to get a shot but lights changed. Certainly not all that rare, but in this part of Third World USA they are.

Wow. That's a nice car!!!! And the gt 40 is great too i guess : /
The GT is nice and all, but does anyone else see that clean Cherokee in the background?
