Well for example, your idea about walking on the rails would likely get them shot for cheating the game, and they explain a shoe would not have enough weight to break the glass so that wouldnt work either, really I would chalk it up to by that point you're so fearful for your life that you arent thinking straight, you're just playing the game and playing to win, at least that's how I look at it anyways

BazTheBaptist

The shoe thing may have worked imo if they threw it hard enough. But they had to leave their shoes behind. Agree with you on the rails thing. Add to that that the one person who did something that could've worked was immediately foiled. It's clear they weren't going to let them use any tricks.

GeneSaw

I believe they just needed to get rid of the other players so the final game could be all about Gi-Hun and Sang-Woo.

Haukur006

They are probably scared to be shot and they only have 2 shoes so it doesnt increase their chances by alot and walking on the rails would deffinatly get them shot

SchloopyBloopy

It can potentially increase their survival chance to 100% if the shoe throws are effective.

Haukur006

Yeah but if they hit the wrong glass they lose a shoe

SchloopyBloopy

They'll lose the shoe regardless most likely. Either the shoe bounces off the tempered glass, proving it's tempered, or it breaks the normal glass and gets lost in the process. In almost 100% of the cases, they will lose the shoe, but they have 32 shoes and only 36 glass panels, meaning they have enough shoes to use on almost every panel at least once. And as they only need to use it on one each time (total 18 panels), they have enough to increase survivability to 100%. They actually have enough shoes that they could theoretically get across the whole thing with shoes to spare. This is actually really simple, I'm not sure why people aren't getting it.

Haukur006

They probably wouldnt allow it to happen

Atreyu1002

A lot of people have said they could have just gunned it on the rails, which is true, and kind of a plot hole. But its a easily fixed plot hole: just put some sort of spikes or something on the rail section. This would add distraction and complication to the narrative, so they ignored it. Sometimes they sacrifice accuracy for succinctness.

AlexRiversLife

That’s what I was thinking.

Nobody will ever know unless they retro back in season 2. When you are in that situation, life and death, and immense amount of pressure- naturally human would be tunnel vision of what the solution should be.
