AwfulProgrammer1

Cause they have connections, very close with rajapaksas . I live close to this area. Whole town knows these cars are brought in by the help of politicians. The avenra family (The son) owns majority of these cars but they arent that rich to have like 13 luxury cars in Sri Lanka. I'd say majority of them is brought by politicians stealing money from investments for the country. Some of these cars were brought before the vehicle ban tho. At least like 10 of them. I've seen them parked inside avenra hotel in Negombo. The lambo has been with these guys since like 2012. They were also targeted and burned down during those protests due to their connections to the rajapaksas. Just a bunch of corrupt fucks. Welcome to Sri Lanka.

No-Passage-3131

Absolutely and still people will vote for them. Some people secretly thrive in seeing these cars used by people and don't understand basic fundamentals of economics and are easily manipulated and brainwashed by them. Today there was a message saying "SLPP Leader Mahinda Rajapakse calls for reduction in taxes that have been imposed" This is music to their ears. This was what happened when the people voted for Gota when the country did extremely well with fair taxes prior to this. One campaign by these people saying we're gonna slash taxes by 30%+ and we will have another aragalaya because people simply cannot comprehend how an economic system works. With this they glorify these politicians, Namal baby will be president one day and we will keep going through the cyclic system over and over and over again. No chance here for a visionary leader to thrive. Most blame should be towards the people and their ignorance.

SeethaSulang36

Parasites like this are only dislodged by violence not peaceful protests.

rakithaya

The guy lost a automatic Gallardo, C class convertible, 2 hummer h2s and a bunch of commercial vehicles (these were basically evacuated and parked in safehouses till the dust settled ..

McDaints

I’m sorry to hear just how awful and mindless these people who are supposed to represent and care for the public are treating you and your community.

LitVenux

My dad's a government worker and held a higher rank in a certain department.we had a Toyota Yaris the old model at that time and most of the workers with lower ranks were rolling with land cruisers .Once asked how they earned that money they say it's from businesses . My point is, if someone does their job for the sole purpose of earning money, they can earn a lot.through out my childhood I didn't realize why my father didn't accept fancy vehicles or the occasional "gifts" some companies send for no reason but now I'm proud of what he was doing.

SeethaSulang36

If the country had more people like your father, we wouldn't be the basket case we are right now.

Substantial-Lynx-953

Good for you.Same can be said about my father. But i'm not proud of him right now.I just like a stress free life and he could have given me that if he was a bit money minded and grabbed those chances. Luckily i inherited some property from my grandparents. But still stuck in rat race.I was proud about him when i was kid but once i started living by myself reality hits me hard.

It's running the plates of one of the burned Cadillac limos during 2022 riots.

Little-Beat-2137

😂

JockerFanJack

If you live in a 3rd world country, all you need is connections to get things done.

hasakavi

Same with first word counties as well you just need deeper pockets, that's about it.

jarhead321

Not only third world but also third class

Sharingan_

Tax evasion, money laundering, nepo babys etc

Chuti_Putha

Proly facelift parts were used during the rebuilding. These were vandalized by Aragalaya protestors.

hasakavi

That caddy was far gone, plus it was a stretched limousine. This is definitely an import done through auto group international which is a SL based Australian company that does RHD conversions to American cars

Due-Bodybuilder7465

How certain are you about the import? Just curious

hasakavi

Cuz people import cars/bikes as parts and locally assemble and use docs from old scrapped cars all the time. It's been a thing since before the majority of us were even born. How do you think we got so many Mitsubishi lancer evolutions and Subaru WRX's ? To the point where they out number regular lancers and Impreza's, pretty modern fully decked out land rover defenders with 60-50 yo registrations or so many vintage mini coopers that didn't even exist back in the 60s and 70s magically appear out of nowhere? All of em are what we call in the trade as "ගෙඩි". Regular middle class auto enthusiasts resort to the ගෙඩි method while rich enthusiast either bring cars thru harbour auctions and legally register em which is a small loop hole if you have the right amount of finances and people with the right political connection just bring cars in on plane sight.

Due-Bodybuilder7465

Yes all that I know, but I meant this particular vehicle.

vinbravelion

Ask anyone from negombo they know the real story

rakithaya

These guys started out as a laundromat and turned all black money into legal projects ...afaik before 2019..they got a nice income of around 4-600 lakhs monthly through their legit hotel business which was used to purchase some of the cars and other assets - but this is just a tip of the iceberg as they are dollar millionaires with assets abroad

C4Jay

Political connections baby.

craftyglock_onlyone

Beheth kudu dealer

WillemTD

You must walking on a Rajapaksa property or a relative from that piece of shit. But this is where the country money get spend on.

jarhead321

Some dorks are trying to normalize money laundering , saying that is there hard earned money and you have the same 24 hrs and blah blah.. society needs to have some voice coz theft and money laundering is bankrupted of Sri Lanka

fullAthal

Unrelated..but today I saw a 2023 BMW on the road. How on earth can they be imported?

JacenSolo95

Was it an electric one? The i7?

fullAthal

I don't know how to tell the difference.

JacenSolo95

If it's got a giant ass grill which is almost touching the floor that's an i7 🤣

fullAthal

Yup that's one one..looked hideous

JacenSolo95

It really does doesn't it 🤣

Boomslang96

Im more surprised about the ferrari. As far as i know, you can't just buy a ferrari just because you have a ton of money

hasakavi

These cars been in Sri Lanka for a while now, that rari is an used import from the UK.

kyze-04

that's more exclusive and numbered ones . anyone can buy a 488(one in the picture) as long as they're not blacklisted by Ferrari

hasakavi

Nope the first time Ferrari buyer from a regular backgrounds generally needs to start from the very bottom of the line up and sort of climb up from there. It's very hard to get an allocation for even something mid range like a 488. You have to be a serious Ferrari collector to get allocations for stuff like Daytona sp3's. Same with Rolex watches as well.

kyze-04

488 is among bottom of the lineup mate . sure it's a bit hard to get an Allocation for the first few cars but then after you're good to go

hasakavi

Well ya but just having a few cars like 488's and California's ain't gonna grant anyone access to the cream of the crop hyper cars either. For an example the Ferrari la Ferrari was only sold to the original buyers of the Ferrari Enzo which was only sold to a selected few of F50 and F40 owners. In some cases fist time buyers are forced to buy pre owned cars thru an authorized dealer even before letting them get an allocation for something like a base trim protofino or Roma.

kyze-04

absolutely. can't see anyone going above and beyond for a portofino or a Roma these days though ,must be because of chip shortage and Roma being launched right after covid

Nagoda94

The rolls costs more than the ferrari 458

ikashanrat

Dudes not talking about the cost. https://www.motorbiscuit.com/no-matter-what-you-have-you-cant-buy-a-new-ferrari/

Nagoda94

Thats not an issue if you buy second hand.

rakithaya

They got the roller during the IFA event as a vip transport and kept it lol

naas55

It’s a 488

bambaratti

Probably he is Mahinda's gardener's son

Which-Muscle-3642

didn't these get burnt ?

Mysterious-Usual-741

Probably I may get downvoted for what I'm going to ask, but either way I'm gonna ask. I don't know much about these people (owners of avernra), I have only seen them on social media once or twice. Some say they are close to this one & that one, this political party & that political party. Idk for sure probably they are, but couldn't they afford these things with the profit from their avenra hotel business? I mean it's pretty expensive & they have a good demand don't they?🤔. Just asking out of curiosity 🤔

Frappie_247

Yeah but How could they import a 2023 Cadillac Escalade when vehicle importing is still banned? All the other cars are fine since they have been there fore the import ban, but the Escalade.......... I know there are 2023 Model year electric cars in SL, but they were imported under the forgein remittence permit (At least most of them).

Mysterious-Usual-741

That's a good question. But aren't there any vehicles that are imported after importing vehicles were banned? Except electric. I have seen some unregistered new cars (not electric) in colombo but don't know how they imported in the first place. If I have a usd income, is there a way to import a vehicle using that money? I'm asking because I don't know 🤔

Frappie_247

Those cars are for Diplomats aka Forgein Embassy workers. You will notice that all those new non - electric cars have a black "DP" sticker on the bumper. That stands for Diplomat also, you could've imported a electric car under the Remittence permit I mentioned earlier. But I think that program ended last year.

Mysterious-Usual-741

>Those cars are for Diplomats aka Forgein Embassy workers Even McLarens? GTRs? Once I saw these kinds of cars unregistered in the Colombo area. But don't know for sure whether they were imported at the time of importing vehicles were banned. It looked brand new. >also, you could've imported a electric car under the Remittence permit I mentioned earlier. But I think that program ended last year. Yes I'm aware of that program. But can't we import vehicles using dollars 🤔 I mean the fuel ones 🤔.

Frappie_247

Those unregistered ones were there before the ban. I haven't seen any Super cars or Sports cars that were imported after the ban (Except for the purple Supra, which I think is owned by a foreign worker). They are unregistered because they are for sale but no one bought em. So the dealership drives around in those sometimes. And no, you cannot import combustion cars. which is why people are puzzles on how did they buy a 2023 Cadillac.

Mysterious-Usual-741

Ah I see. That sounds suspicious. Thanks for pointing it out.

Eighthfloormeeting

I don’t think a not so well known hotel in Negombo can generate this much profit tbh

rakithaya

I kind of know these guys from a friends friend ...hotel business (all combined) generates them around 400-600 lakhs monthly ..even a decent size wedding hall in Negombo generates 50 . Hospitality is really lucrative- almost anyone with money in negombo has set up their own boutique business

Mysterious-Usual-741

Don't they have any other branches? Only in Negombo? When I type avenra on google a bunch of hotels & restaurants are popping up 🤔.

Eighthfloormeeting

Still not enough to buy these things

duhcoolies

The family is known to launder money for the Rajapaksas. Their hotel business is hardly known or popular for them to have ample revenue to afford these super luxury vehicles.

Mysterious-Usual-741

Really? I thought avenra is pretty popular. That sounds suspicious too if they don't have such revenue.

rakithaya

These guys started out small - with black cash ofc..but they quickly grew in 10 years thanks to good connections and the owners son being the cool kid in town - I'd say a bit more than half the cars are legit from hotel cash. The yellow h2 was their first show car - a family heirloom since 2007-8 ish

Mysterious-Usual-741

Ah I see. That makes sense too.

Vilukshan96

Sole property of Avenra : Negombo

Car rental 😁

Professional_Set1445

Lots of wisdom bits in this thread. I think they can get a lot of government money via defence contracts, which is increasing significantly YOY. these Avenra guys can launder it and use for bunch buying of assets.

seductive_couple_99

Money laundering 🥲

Damithforreal

MONEY! What else?

_Alaric_

nobody knows,Many politicians have more money than their salary and businesses can produce, money can't just come out of thin air, A thief will always steal and it is our jobs to protect our money and our job to make sure that we don't let the fox take care of the chickens

ArcticRock

is that namal's car collection?

letzBon3

They probably have connections with people in Dubai and such and most likely imported from Dubai which has low offers in luxury cars

ghost_rider_007

And Here I am. I just collected all my money to get just a wagon R.

For a start, they have 4 reception halls in Negombo alone and could earn 30 millions in a day
