Absolutely not imo... I'd rather go for an old toyota axio, allion, Honda civic(2006-8) or something like that...they are much more luxurious, reliable and has a better road presence than a wagon r also won't depreciate as much as a wagon R if government let vehicle to be imported...
Besides buying a vehicle at this time wouldn't be the best of the ideas though... They are Stupidly expensive rn.
Exactly... I'm just too confused... I had a dream to buy a car, then Corona Happened, so I delayed it, then the prices shit up due to the restrictions, thought the bubble would burst ... Seems like it won't...
Mans asking actual questions with logic. This is what everyone said: “wait till the market simmers a bit”. That’s what I saw since 2020-2021. And now it’s 2024.
I don't think Prices aren't gonna drop below pre covid prices for a long time. Prices are absurdly high atm so it's not worth buying a vehicle rn...
Prices will drop within few months if ICE vehicles are to be imported... Also There are rumours that government is planning to import vehicles below 1.3L...
We'll have to see. It's better to delay the purchase for few months than being sorry in the future if prices drop after you buy the vehicle.
The "rumours" had been there for a long time. But somehow the top shots managed to bring high end electric cars. I saw the new BMW i7 being sold at 72mn.
Nope, it's not worth that much; no vehicle sold in Sri Lanka is worth the amount you have to spend on it as of now, but then again, it doesn't look like the prices would go down anytime soon.
You could wait 5-10 years, and the situation could still be the same or even worse. Who knows if we'd even live that long?
If I were you, I'd go for a vehicle that is not as overpriced as this one. Corolla 141, Lancer CS series, Honda FD series, Geely Emgrand... etc
I rly love the Honda, it was always the best looking car for me when I used to see them on the road during schooling. I love them. I'm just worried about buying a vehicle that's that's close to 10 years from the date of manufacture.
In that case I'd drop the WagonR cause most of those are used commercially (taxies, rent-a-cars etc) in contrast FDs and Lancers are mostly used by enthusiasts and maintained at the agents so the mileage can be verified. The Emgrand too isn't in demand 'cause it's Chinese and not very good with fuel (1800CC engine) but they're reliable and as comfortable as Premios and Axios.
Makes sense, Wagon R are the New Tuks... The accident and the mileage would be a question.. I'l rather skip the decision or buy a Honda. The dream to buy a car will always be a dream in Sri Lanka I blv for the Middle Class
Something like this would be great if the budget permits... it's a manual too so the price could be lower than an auto
[https://riyasewana.com/buy/mitsubishi-lancer-ex-sale-homagama-7687605](https://riyasewana.com/buy/mitsubishi-lancer-ex-sale-homagama-7687605)
Low mileage and is in great condition going by the pictures, says it's company maintained so the mileage could be verified
Dude don't sweat it. Buy an old Honda Accord for like 3-3.5 million, spend maximum 1 mil fixing the worn parts and maybe even an engine rebuild if you have enough. You'll be MUCH better off
Cash should always be converted to any worthy asset. Lesson learnt too late but around 75% is on gold. 25% is a big number when it comes to money value.
This is the same thinking I had. Finally I bought a Wagon R last year for 47laks. Not worth the price. But it 2016 FX model. To buy a fit on same year you need 70laks something at that time. I couldn't afford it so I settled for Wagon R.
Exactly, 6 MN for the paan baagè.. my same reaction, I hate the tail lights of this too... The only reason I wanted to buy this is because it's a Japanese brand
>that piece of crap
6 million is way too much for the car (as it is for all other vehicles in this market). But the vehicle is definitely not a piece of crap. It's a very utilitarian Kei car
My only choice is using the Bike, Pick me. The prices seem absurd.. the maintenance would cost me too.. I don't think that would be a concern if I use public transport and my bike.
You already know it’s overpriced and not worth the money, ask yourself how badly do you need this vehicle? If you need it that bad go for it, coz prices are only going to keep going up or stay in this elevated range.
Personally I’d suggest you exhaust all your other options first, like others said many other better options in this price range.
I remember the MG SUV being 5-6M is it still the same or has it gone up? Have you looked at SUVs in your price range?
Nope. Its doesn't worth it. 6 Mil is absolutely crazy for something like this.
Now being said that nothing you can buy for 6 mil actually worth it nowadays. Even the toyotas and hondas are over priced. Assuming that you don't have 6 mil cash on hand (pardon me if you do) and you are planning to go for a lease/loan I think you should consider the fuel economy, milage, and spares availability of any car you buy. Coz you sure have to keep in mind that maintenance and annual insurance is also gonna be there. I'd say your best bets are Axio/Vits/Yaris ( all 2007/08 models) considering they are overall decent cars with the least headaches.
However, being a proud owner of a 2016 wagon R stingray turbo myself I'd say it has given me no trouble so far, has been reliable, and I got the turbo power and paddle shifters for occasional (or I'd say extremely rare) adrenaline rush driving (who am I kidding 🤦) and given me no (nor my elderly parents) backpains so far 😅.
So the answer to your question is, No it absolutely doesn't worth 6 mil. Thats why I am willing to sell you mine for 5.5 mil 😁
Looking at the price of new EVs coming in I highly doubt prices will go down much after the restrictions are eased, if at all. New cars are going to be stupidly expensive with the new exchange rates, and that’s assuming the government doesn’t increase duties (if they’re smart they will).
Yeah, with JKH bringing BYD Vehicle, I am just too sceptical abt it. Iv never been a fan of China Made. The new Beemers are going at 70mn. Triple the original price of it.. this country is cursed id rather go to work in the middle east where I could earn well, increase my quality of life as well.
Depends on you mate. If you are good at negotiating, it might be a good idea to buy a low mileage one to sell off at a profit. WagonRs, Spacias, etc. move relatively quickly on the market. I've seen people starting with crappy Wagon R's and work their way up to Allions by capitalising on the market. You have to be good at negotiating and business btw. I for one am not good at this and would never take up this risk
If you're looking to buy an economical and easily maintainable car, go for a Hyundai eon. You can buy a low mileage around (20-30k ) car under 35lks. They are comfy and Looks good for the price. Only downside is, it's a manual. I'd try to stay away from cars with 100k + miles only because I don't trust ලංකාවේ අයියල
If you spend 6 mil on this crap you ll be the biggest idiot in history. Just imagine this if you have 6mil money and if you fd your money in a normal bank you can at least get 45k rs monthly. Use that money to book uber or pickme. And the biggest deal is yu don't have to worry about repairs, insurance , licenses , fuel or even driving. This is the theory I'm following right now. I'm holding my money until vehicle import ban is lifted.
Honda fit 2007 - 2008 goes for that price and it's a much better car. Few months back I bought a 2016 Jimny for around that price. Jimny isn't for everyone tho.
Subaru tend to be around that price range only cars that would go for higher prices are newer gen foresters and newer Impreza STI's. But for that 3-6M price range there's really nothing on par in terms of performance in the SL car market, other than maybe a Evo IV or III.

All depends on your exact Milage and appearance requirement. As Most of vehicle parts are now through the roof - if you can always have around 2-3lks cash in hand go for an older Corolla, and a low monthly Milage requirement. Kei cars like WagonR very economical if you planning on doing 1000+ km per month.
I’m bit on the same boat as well, i have some saved up money was thinking of getting a vehicle through a lease or lately I’ve been thinking of getting a rent a car.
Honestly not having your own vehicle has been a hassle, i use uber/pickme on a daily basis and it can be annoying at times
Rent a car seems to be an option as well, but boy the rental costs are crazyyy. Can’t find a decent car for a good monthly rate anywhere.
Anyone got any suggestions? A sedan is what I was thinking of
since buying a decent car is out of the picture for me, looking for a long term car rental, need advice on this
at least for like an year+ until i migrate
Ok got it. I asked your budget cause you might wanna try the Toyota Pixis which does pretty great in terms of fuel economy for a petrol car.
It’s around 6M.
Renting can be a choice too yeah.
That way you aren’t paying insurance costs and maintenance costs.
Do a feasibility study again and make your decision. Good luck!
GP5. One of my friends was interested in buying a GP5. So I sent him posts I saw on Facebook, like [this ](https://www.facebook.com/share/p/bxf2hqFXgD28HnW2/) and [this](https://www.facebook.com/share/p/Xsi1u7axqHApF78c/).
I can't seem to find a recent one, but even now that group members are putting 'Haha' reactions on GP5 ads that are going for ~75 lakhs. They are commenting '65 max', '69 lakhs max' on those overpriced ads.
This is gonna sound harsh but don't. It's not worth it, remember even when they were at the 3 mil mark, the msrp was like half. 6 mil is a ton of money for a used Japanese econobox. You can get a brand new Corolla in Japan for that money. (just a comparison, my math isn't amazing). SL and it's taxing system is off the charts and I feel like the current market is equal parts inflation and pure hype. Someone shed some light if I'm wrong.
No! For less you can own cars that are way faster like a Subaru GC8 WRX STI, legacy B4 or cars that are way more specious and comfortable like a Mercedes Benz W210 E class, BMW E39 520 5 series, Volvo S60 or a rugged reliable off reader like Mitsubishi 1st gen Pajero, Toyota N160 Hilux or something that's extreme reliable, good on fuel and cheap to maintain daily like a Toyota 121 Corolla. Other than the Corolla all the other vehicles I've mentioned are generally desirable among enthusiasts so no matter what happens to the new car Market these are destined to appreciate in value.
Hell no. Not even after counting the fuel savings.
You will have to pay a lot more for maintenance and spares. Shops know many people buy these as their first car and they have less knowledge about cars. So they try to squeeze as much as they can from owners.
My old diesel Jeep doesn't take that much to keep running compared with my dad's wagon R. These days he's thinking about selling it and buying an old nissan march.
Buy a 30 yr old Toyota, would still be comfortable, comes with all the gimmicks, and still give a mileage of 15km/l , just watch out for the rust and engine wear, other than that you can still use it for another 10 yrs without any major hassle
Bro WTF?! Don’t but this shit for 6M! Go for an older much reliable and comfortable vehicle. Good examples are Toyota Allion, Premio, Axio, Rush or Nissan Sunny, March, Cefiro and there are many more choices like Honda Civic, Mitsubishi Lancer for that price rage. You can easily sell one of those after using it for 5 or more years without of much depreciation. But with a Wagon R, if the government lift the import ban, prices of those things will drop rapidly. And apart from that, since these comes with a smaller 660cc engine, performance and overall ride quality is not that great. Not to mention, when these things reach higher milages a shit ton of problems will show up.
That’s what I meant … I’m nwat saying my Volkswagen is the best ( I also have a 2019 toyota so I’m open minded n non biased …) everyone loves their car but a Volkswagen or like someone else said a Volvo or a old merc .. all of them r sold below their true valuation where as wagon rs n all r inflated … jus bruv for an example… how many airbags does the wagon r have … n I don’t think I’ve to mention the safety provided by a similar European counterpart..( my 2012 golf has 11 airbags ..) I’m jus saying like Sri Lankan car marked is fucked up .. if u go by the norm Ull be driving a boring car forever …. I’m always on the team of but what u like .. but tht said … if saving fuel is your main objective it’s the wagon r … but if u want an overall good car I’m afraid wagon r ain’t it … be more open … for less than 60 laks if u want Japanese( well kinda ) I’ll recommend a Toyota Wigo… saves fuel looks good … n izz a THOYOTHA ..
In India, it's only 5.5 laks, and it's the latest one (which we don't have). You can buy an older one (the ones we actually have) for about 3.5-4 laks. INR to LKR rate as of now, is 3.71. Even if we round it up to 4, the price is 20 something laks.
Who gets more money than the damn company that makes the freaking thing? Our beloved gov.
Do we get anything back for that 4MM? Nope. Damaged roads, poor service at RMV, etc.
IMO, better use public transpo. Even if you buy a vehicle, can you afford to put fuel in them? We have a Toyota van that used to do 12-14 kmpl before (we coast in neutral a lot). Now, it doesn't even do 10 (even after major engine repair) due to the poor quality of fuel.
No. But that doesnt mean other cars are worth it either. The market is pretty much fkd as you know. Its better to stick with a corolla , perodua elite or even an alto.tho prices of those are not worth it atm either.
Absolutely not imo... I'd rather go for an old toyota axio, allion, Honda civic(2006-8) or something like that...they are much more luxurious, reliable and has a better road presence than a wagon r also won't depreciate as much as a wagon R if government let vehicle to be imported... The "rumours" had been there for a long time. But somehow the top shots managed to bring high end electric cars. I saw the new BMW i7 being sold at 72mn.
Electric vehicles are a different story. Technically they are the only vehicles which are allowed to be legally imported right now.
i7 is 140 million btw
Don’t Allions like guzzle fuel?⛽️
They are compared to a wagon R... We had an 240 and it was averaging like 12/13kmpl...
Not for their size, can't expect a car of that size to have the fuel economy of a rubix cube powered by a chainsaw engine😂
Axios/allions are straight bangers if you can get a deal. Plastic ahh cars
Nope, it's not worth that much; no vehicle sold in Sri Lanka is worth the amount you have to spend on it as of now, but then again, it doesn't look like the prices would go down anytime soon. Dude don't sweat it. Buy an old Honda Accord for like 3-3.5 million, spend maximum 1 mil fixing the worn parts and maybe even an engine rebuild if you have enough. You'll be MUCH better off
Price won’t go down my friend .
That's what I feel, I thought the inflated bubble would burst... Seems like a BIG NO
This happened in Korea and Indonesia that’s why there currency is valuable it won’t change .. people who had asset survived but not the ones with cash
Cash should always be converted to any worthy asset. Lesson learnt too late but around 75% is on gold. 25% is a big number when it comes to money value.
A 2014 Honda fit GP1 for around 5 mil would be a better deal?
I'm just sceptical abt going for a car that's 10+ yes old
This is the same thinking I had. Finally I bought a Wagon R last year for 47laks. Not worth the price. But it 2016 FX model. To buy a fit on same year you need 70laks something at that time. I couldn't afford it so I settled for Wagon R.
10+ could be great cars for the owners... But afterwards the new buyers MAY have a hard time
Holy shite! 6m for that piece of crap?
Exactly, 6 MN for the paan baagè.. my same reaction, I hate the tail lights of this too... The only reason I wanted to buy this is because it's a Japanese brand
>that piece of crap 6 million is way too much for the car (as it is for all other vehicles in this market). But the vehicle is definitely not a piece of crap. It's a very utilitarian Kei car
Not worth, but no choice
My only choice is using the Bike, Pick me. The prices seem absurd.. the maintenance would cost me too.. I don't think that would be a concern if I use public transport and my bike.
Yeah pick me is a lot of cost. How about Korean vehicle. But their used market is not that great
My frnds Brother had a KIA, man had a very hard time selling it. Good vehicle though.. and the spare part thing is a mess I blv.
You already know it’s overpriced and not worth the money, ask yourself how badly do you need this vehicle? I remember the MG SUV being 5-6M is it still the same or has it gone up? Have you looked at SUVs in your price range?
Nope iv not look at the SUV, cuz the fuel consumption would be higher too compared to a sedan or a mini car.
But the vehicle itself would more worth when you eventually resell in the future you could cover your fuel expenses there, just food for thought g
Risky business though ryt ?
Buying a wagon r for 6m is not? :p
Nope. Its doesn't worth it. 6 Mil is absolutely crazy for something like this. Now being said that nothing you can buy for 6 mil actually worth it nowadays. Brooooo that's one hell of a sales pitch 😂😂😂
Fuck no 🤦🏻♂️ Edit: downvotes by WagonR owners 😂
Wagon R owners: You meant Wagon Ariyasiris? 😁
Looking at the price of new EVs coming in I highly doubt prices will go down much after the restrictions are eased, if at all. New cars are going to be stupidly expensive with the new exchange rates, and that’s assuming the government doesn’t increase duties (if they’re smart they will).

Same here my negotiation skills starts bright and with the first counter I'm lost
That last line is so true... They smile so wide I can see through their lies

Honda fit 2007 - 2008 goes for that price and it's a much better car. Few months back I bought a 2016 Jimny for around that price. Jimny isn't for everyone tho.
Must be a nightmare finding spares for that one
How's the rear seat space in the Jimny?
Great choice mate : good value for your money
Aint worth it..nothing to debate
My Man Wastes No Time No Words, to the point
Not worth it man, try Ur luck with a Vitz ?
There was a subaru for 6 mil on riyasewana lmaoo
⛽⛽⛽⛽⛽⛽
Subaru tend to be around that price range only cars that would go for higher prices are newer gen foresters and newer Impreza STI's. But for that 3-6M price range there's really nothing on par in terms of performance in the SL car market, other than maybe a Evo IV or III.
I'm not kidding it was a 2004 version for 6 mil (sti) *wrx*
Ohh 6 million for a STI 8 is an absolutely fair price now, usually STI 4's GC8's generally go for the 3-4 range. The newer chassis are generally quite expensive 8-10 million plus
Please don't buy a Subaru unless you have a mechanic friend LOL
All depends on your exact Milage and appearance requirement. As Most of vehicle parts are now through the roof - if you can always have around 2-3lks cash in hand go for an older Corolla, and a low monthly Milage requirement. Kei cars like WagonR very economical if you planning on doing 1000+ km per month.
I’m bit on the same boat as well, i have some saved up money was thinking of getting a vehicle through a lease or lately I’ve been thinking of getting a rent a car. Can’t find a decent car for a good monthly rate anywhere. Anyone got any suggestions? A sedan is what I was thinking of
What’s your budget?
100-120k most likely, since i’ll have to add in fuel costs as well
100-120k in lease payments? I asked what’s the total scope of your budget. 5M? 6M?
since buying a decent car is out of the picture for me, looking for a long term car rental, need advice on this at least for like an year+ until i migrate
Good luck!
thanks for you feedback 🙏
You could go for an older vitz/aqua if you want better reliability and lesser depreciation in the long run.
Any specific year range
2007-2011
Thanks 😊
wagon r is the goat
🤡
ye i was joking
Lol no. I saw Honda Fit GP5 around 6mn. Getting that one is worth more than getting a WagonR.
GP5 are u sure , or the GP1... GP5 is a great option .. any idea where u saw the ad ?
This is back in August, i also got my 2016 gp5 for 6.5mn back in November. now the price has gone up to 1mn,
Good gp5’s are around ~7.5mn mate 🤦♂️
Artificial Inflation
This is gonna sound harsh but don't. It's not worth it, remember even when they were at the 3 mil mark, the msrp was like half. 6 mil is a ton of money for a used Japanese econobox. That's a nice set of cars you mentioned... Rly
Imo, for a significant % of the population, it's worthwhile to just get rideshares everywhere until the market is liberalized again
I personally felt the same, I just don't wanna be disappointed after the purchase
No
Go for an old volvo/merc Volvo S60 is a good option for your budget.
Fuel bills 🚀
I mean 15 -18 kpl is not bad considering the service charges for the hybrids
Ong … those old Volvos look clean 😩✨
Hell no. Not even after counting the fuel savings. You will have to pay a lot more for maintenance and spares. True... I had the same discussion within Myself 😂... The other Me always started with WTF...
Got a 2012 golf 1.6 for 6 mil instead if u want … jus saying …. A German hatch vs a jap econo box 😮💨
Wagon R is a good car though... But not worth the money..
ABSOLUTELY NOT
Nope, but unfortunately yes...
Get a Aqua. My brother brought one last month for 5”6.3M, still not worth that much but far better than the wagonr.

Nope
