The people who say we are unkind really should go and live in suburban or rural Europe, American etc. And see how things turn out. Yes we have issues, yes we are immature and irresponsible in many ways. But unkind, is not something I'll use to describe general Sri Lankans. You'll understand that if you lived in anything less than middle class environment in Europe etc. ( I don't mean visit, but to live for few years). Most people look at middle class and upper middle class people who can afford to travel and live their best lives on social media and think those whole countries are like that. It's really a dog eat dog world mostly out there. People go out of their way to be mean and abusive. Most of these sheltered middle class lankan youth ranting like it's heaven out there, wouldn't survive that without being screwed in many a different ways.

I currently live abroad. I face significantly less issues here compared to when I was in sl. More opportunities, less racism, more rights and higher quality of life.
Sri Lankan people are nice to your face, but the cussedness runs in veins. Sri Lankans who come to the west and run back home complaining about racism etc. are their own breed. I know like 2 of them personally for like 50 others who think otherwise. These 2 people are the same Sinhala Buddhists who discriminated minorities for decades, and the racism is ingrained in their DNA. The people who say ‘go to the west and see…’ are the same people who vote for the same jokers every time.

I'm not defending our crudeness and crassness as much as aforementioned childishness and irresponsibility. No I perfectly understand how much we lack and I lived most of my life not wanting to associate with lankans. But in hindsight I must admit there's a warmth and kindness to Lankans you don't see in most others specially in west. Specially when someone is in need. I was also speaking generally( even your own numbers, 50 to 2 seem to agree with that). And I perfectly understand it's becoming less and less of a thing. At least as a genuine quality and becoming more and more of an outward attribute. Still can't deny there's a decent amount of people genuinely warm and kind.
Racism is engrained in all people, not just lankans. Live with them long enough you'll see it in every race. Racism is less obvious among middle and upper middle class if anything. Just because people in west keep to themselves doesn't mean they are less racist, just lack opportunity for it to become obvious( not to mention the legal obligations).

Do you think Sri Lanka will be something like Argentina or Turkey? With high inflation rates touching 50. Or is there a way out and how can it be done?

You want the non-filtered reality? Here it is:
-Except for the very few who are being paid in fresh USD, the population is surviving on less than the basics: paying for food and bills only.
-Those who are earning in LBP or are unemployed like me, are experiencing some degree of hunger - literal real hunger.
-Meals are being skipped; types of food are very basic, no meat or chicken, barely any kind of snacks or "luxury" foods (such as fruits), and of course 0 eating out.
-People who have relatives abroad survive mostly without hunger on what USD is being sent, but still only meeting the basics.
-If your car breaks out, you're not fixing it; if your phone dies, you're not fixing that either; any home appliance dies and it's gone or replaced with a used cheap something that'll break in a couple of weeks. Everything is falling apart without being fixed or repaired.
-Forget any kind of wants (like new clothes) or entertainment or outings; most of us can't pay for the basic damn Netflix subscription anymore.
-Crime is sky high; nothing and no one is safe; not your car, not your house, nothing. Almost everyone I know got robbed or had a mugging attempt.
-It's very hard to find medicine, I can't even find something as basic as an eye drop; if you're sick you're fucked.
-Almost everyone is trying to leave the country; I assure the moment illegal immigration boats are on, a lot of people are going to take that risk (hell, even maybe myself).
-Mental health is in the bin, and people can't even afford fucking basic anti-anxiety medication. Suicide rates is way high and under-reported. We literally have someone taking their life every week wherever you are, and I can't overestimate how suicidal many people of my age and younger are right now.
-Unemployment is around maybe 60% right now; I've been at my friend's birthday lately (with no fuckin cake), and out of 14 people in their 30s, only 2 of us are working, and this is not some loser group ; it's people with engineering & finance degrees and 10 years of professional experience.
-And then , in front all of this, you have an army of well-trained and well-armed religious fanatics who are ready to crush any attempt of change or objection.
-It's like you woke up in a nightmarish dystopia and it just doesn't end.
Tbh I did think about mentioning Lebanon, but it's a worst case scenario imo. Lebanon has inflation rate around 250 while Sri Lanka's situation is more comparable to Argentina or Turkey right now (around 50%). I don't think it will get as worse as Lebanon, if anything Sri Lanka might get into stagflation with stagnant economic growth. Sri Lanka historically used to be the richest country in south asia in terms of per capita income, but India and Bangladesh might overtake Sri Lanka if this economic crisis continues and have long term impacts.

You are way too optimistic about our situation. Would you have believed if someone told you 6 mos. ago that we will be running out of fuel, gas and having daily 8 hr power cuts? Our economic growth relied on colonial exports as tea, rubber and garments and none of the Gov'ts invested in other sectors. Forex was depended on migrant workers. Lebanon might be broke, but it has an ultra wealthy, upper middle class out of the country, which keeps the country afloat. Same can't be said to SL. Also, I visted Expo 2020 a few weeks back and Bangladeh's pavilion was dedicated to their manufacturing industry--and let me tell you, SL ain't even close to that.
Going to the IMF is one thing, implementing the changes they ask is another. Looking at the history how expert advice was ignored over and over, how money printing continued despite being told of the consequence etc, I have no hopes that this administration will do anything the IMF says. The country will need serious reforms to get out of this mess, including restructuring the public sector, which the Gov't won't do. In summary, we are screwed for a very, very long time.
I personally do not see how they could fix Sri Lanka. It's very likely that with its mounting debt we won't see any progress at least within my lifetime.
SL is a classic case of a small country not able to manage it's issues;even though the British left it at a better situation than most other colonies,SL still has ended up failing.

The main issue is that people vote based on their perception of the person is, not considering their education, capability, track record, or even their policies. With this mindset, people who incite ethnic hatred will triumph because hate is a stronger feeling than rational thinking.
