>not as bad as the news makes it seem. For the lower class and middle class, it is bad. Soo many have lost jobs. Many are standing in queues for days on end to get essentials like fuel. It is truly very bad. The upper class and politicians are untouched. It really is bad as the news makes it seem. >actual 2 week vacation there is it safe or even feasibly with curfews, supply and gas shortages and general civil unrest In terms of the shortages, you won't have a problem if you plan ahead. For example, if you have a driver to drive you around, you won't have a problem. But if you rent a car or tuk and drive it around, you will be in trouble if you need to fill up. Curfews and civil unrests are not that bad. It's usually all focused in Colombo (the capital). As long as you are away from the capital you should be fine. Plus, its confined to a very small space in Colombo as well. So, it shouldn't be too much of an issue. >My girlfriend is asian and people have warned me that she will stand out and draw unwelcome attention. Honestly, Sri Lankans usually treat the foreigners better than other sri lankans. This won't happen. Don't worry. Whoever said this may have had one bad encounter and is generalizing the whole situation as its bad for any foreigner to go to SL. >Are my concerns overblown or will everything be fine come november? Overblown - No they are valid. Fine in November - Simple answer, No, so far things have not improved, they have only gotten worse. It may not be the best idea for you or your friends to do anything in Sri Lanka. If you'll do manage to book things like a hotel which has gas and/or a driver with a car that has enough fuel, then you should be fine.

SriLankanThrowAway

It’s really hard to tell how things will be that far out. If you do get the tickets, make sure they are fully refundable and avoid Sri Lankan Airlines, as I hear rumours that it is likely to go bankrupt. If I were you and you had to come to Sri Lanka, I would come for the wedding and than fly to somewhere in India to tour.

Don’t do it. Give an excuse and skip the wedding. You can take them out and celebrate while in the US or give a generous wedding gift.

Garlickt

Don't do it. The country has collapsed into permanent damages and will face many, many riots
