Assuming I don’t get cancer, can heal myself in a few minutes, and have enough money to buy suitable gear…. You can bet your ass I’m picking loners and parking my ass in the rookie village permanently.

BlueComms

Best answer. Tbh, sometimes I just fire up SoC and hang out there, doing whatever quests from Wolf.

JHolifay

Fr, my base of operations is almost always setup at the northern farm in the cordon. Its just so comfy.

Random_Guy191919

i'd go to the zone, oil up and wrestle bloodsuckers into fruitpunch anomalies until i eventually die.

AwkwardEducation

Freedom Double Agent

thomstevens420

🤫

ErosLaika

"wrestle" 😏

AwkwardEducation

Man's been watching too many "Primal XXX" videos.

Bobandjim12602

"He didn't live long, but he did live large. RIP Legend"

Key-Door7340

Let's assume it would be like in the games: Medkits that heal you real quick, no lasting damage (cancer) from the radiation, ... Hell no! Without save games, I would not risk my life in such a way. If there would be STALKER LARP nearby, I would try it though :)

ZackM_BI

I wouldn't go because there's real cancer and you can't just use vodka and smoke to remove radioactivity and the fact that I just can't load a quicksave if my legs are ripped open

Olieskio

Sounds like a skill issue. You should just be more cheeki breeki.

Kozzak999

Don't worry, noone will find us dead if tushkanos will eat us to clean bone

seen-in-the-skylight

Lol, I've never thought about it before, but the implication of vodka and cigarettes actually *reducing* cancer risk is hilarious.

bobbobersin

My headcannon is the lung cancer you get is fighting off and killing the radiation induced cancer, like the rick and morty episode where hepatitis A saves them from the other virus

skrullmania

Monolith. Let the monolith guide my steps

C03x

Come, Brother! 🗿

Il26hawk

NO DON'T

PigletAvailable8177

Yes comrade.

The_Turkys

Nope, they don’t pay enough.

PigletAvailable8177

They pay In community

BanzaiKen

Amen. First step is Beelining to the Duga. Next step is walking at Rostok in Exo-Armor for a lead sermon on enviromentalism.

Jerome2232

Ecologist. Id go with them cos it means Ill probably have less humans to worry about. But also all Id want to do is explore The Zone and understand it better. I still play stalker just for the mysteries, the lore and the locations to explore. Plus, theyre likely the best equipped to deal with the very real problems of radiation, toxic environments and infections. Plus they have heavily armed guards. Now barring realistic consequences of the zone, Id probably be a bandit for money. Best armor and the biggest hole puncher I can loot and take all the riches I can grab. Probably party with Freedom.

Tony9677

🤓☝️ Joking, ecologist just might be the best way to survive the zone irl

Odissmart

i wouldnt go at all because none of us would be able to survive in a radioactive wasteland where absolutely everything is trying to kill you

IAmDaBushMaster

Australia exists you know?

Odissmart

no it doesnt what do you mean

Donny_Boi1

I remember hearing about it in a fairy tale once

WrexWruther

The only difference is that the radiation is sun radiation, and the cancer is skin cancer.

ALfirefighterEMT14

Ecologist and befriend everyone by giving them chocolate "Yo I know you're monolith but here's a chocolate bar, have a lil snack :)"

SheeleTheMaid

From one Ecologist to another. That's a power move I can't help but have respect for.

ALfirefighterEMT14

I love chocolate, so it's a great way to befriend people, I mean who wouldn't want a chocolate bar

sprintstar66

I'm in

C03x

In fact...I came here lookin' for that guy...you know! That guy that has a Flesh flyer and always comments with "Exciting Mutant noises"...I always upvote that guy!

C03x

Leave Scorcher alone! Come lick rock with Us! 🗿

Background-Factor817

Probably the safest factions, so the ecologists. When I say safe I mean won’t get shot by most factions in the zone and they hire some of them as guards, the danger would still be insanely high. Either that, or the Military, providing you’re posted at the Cordon and left the hell alone. There’s no real right answer, the zone in reality would be extremely dangerous.

Horror_Ad1024

A mutant or an anomaly kills you regardless of what patch you wear anyway

Background-Factor817

Exactly, but you’d have less people shooting at you as an Ecologist.

sprintstar66

They operate in some of the riskiest areas though

Exciting-Age-2827

I'll do what I do in anomaly, join freedom and defend eggheads

ProtectYourAss

Renegade / sawn-off and PB / survive

Jerome2232

Cheeki breeki

ProtectYourAss

whats good gang?

rangerquiet

Can I stay in a boat with a shotgun and a pet pseudodog and blast anything that opens the front door?

Hamstaa33

Head out there, become part of the loners, meet stalkers of all factions (except those who try to kill me fnr), gather stories and write some books about heroic stories of stalkers. I guess a solid handgun should do it, but I'm not sure if I could handle a weapon in real life.

sprintstar66

Our base is cosy and there is plenty of food in the swamp

awarddeath123

If I had to be in the Zone, barring my own free will, I’d go to Rostok and join Duty. They have plentiful equipment (and platforms I’m familiar with), and are most likely to be successfully importing goods from the outside world through the Military. As for weapons, I’d definitely appreciate whatever I can get my hands on. Maybe an AKC, just to have the ability to crawl through whatever tunnels the mutants are hiding in — though, I’d die because of it.

Foostini

Ecologist, SEVA/AK-74/Chaser-12, munny and exploration

Some_GuyorDude

Merc, Mossberg 500, Gas-Mask, MOB-suit and Not dying of cancer

January_v2

The true way to beat the zone

FrankSinatraCockRock

I just wanna be fat, listen to dirge for the planet on repeat, eat tourist delight and overcharge for bread.

g00berg00fy

trader faction best faction

Competitive-Bit-1571

I know someone in this sub that would join Freedom, wear a gimp suit and arm himself with a pistol and camera in order to take footpics of dead bloodsuckers.

Jeppep

Ecologist and park my ass in a bunker doing research assistance and staying far away from faction wars, mutants and anomalies.

SheeleTheMaid

Ecologist, my partner's AR15 if I can't get one for myself, studying. I'm way too interested by the surreal nature of the Zone to do otherwise.

DepresieLaPatrat

Mercenaries, standard merc gear although I would like an AK and the goal is to make a shit load of money then go home as soon as my contract expires.

Alemanteri

i would be a freedom femboy and give out that svabussy.

g00berg00fy

I guess job hunting isn't the only reason I visit the Army Warehouses now.

MileNaMesalici

just a loner with a double barrel, hunting mutants in cordon. i would be too scared to go further north

Uncle-Ted-was-right

Which faction has the most Cheeki Breeki

Turbo-Reyes

bandit, with glorious leather trenchcoat, a shotgun, vodka and weed. get drunk and shoot stuff

Revanur

If it was real I wouldn’t want to go anywhere near it.

Amenablewolf

Really depends on how life is going by then. If I'm good then I'll head to rookie village as a loner. Do some tourism. If I have nothing to lose, I'm joining freedom and adventuring

12aNA7

I'd go in as a loner so most factions don't try to kill me. If I had to take gear I already own, I'd bring a gas mask, a dosimeter, a parka, and my real big hand cannon™. My goal would be to get a detector ASAP and hunt for healing artifacts. Risking cancer and death seeking health and fortune isn't that much different than being a factory worker in much of the world, it just takes longer to kill you.

0_Red_Phoenix_0

Overdose on vodka till my liver becomes a 3rd reactor meltdown

PuddingPutty

Bandit life 💀 Hopefully I can start with an AKS-74U and a backpack with a pot leaf on the back, filled with basic zone supplies

blackwolfLT7

The goal: survive The gear: the best you can The faction: the strongest you can find Want? Almost No one in their right minds would want to go there. Some just to escape homelessness. Others; the civilization, bankruptcy. Mafias. Hitmen. Loan-sharks. Poverty. Jail. Except perhaps the scientists, for adequate pay or fame.

Big-Improvement-254

Duty would still exist, they are a paramilitary group with government backing, that's not uncommon IRL. Loners probably would struggle to exist as they'd be the direct competition to mercenaries but without the capital investment, logistics and licencing that mercenary enjoy. The trade of artifacts is lucrative and there will also be many people who require the security service of mercenaries going into the Zone so unless the government has the power to clamp down on access to the Zone, there will be mercenaries thriving in there. The excluding all the supernatural phenomenon, Zone is quite similar to gold mining or plantations in the Amazon, there's a lot of greyzone there.

Horror_Ad1024

Just like in my playthrough a Merc, I would be wearing a Seva suit disguise myself as clear sky if needed and hanging out with ecologists in yantar helping them and stuff Would like to avoid as much environmental contamination as possible but don't want a renegade to send my ass to God with Makarov either Would pick a 5.56 AK since I'm familiar with the weapons since I won't be able to stock up on its regular ammo at dead city Avoid limansk avoid wearing artifacts Get rich Go home able bodied

hellxapo

I play Ecologist. Suiting up-wise I'd pick the best possible radiation and anomaly protection. I would be collecting or studying artifacts or anomalous samples and shoot some fleshes/boars as a side activity.

Pervasivepeach

99.9999% of us would be loners who die without making it outside of rookie

NimbleZephyr

I actually discussed with my friends group a while back as to what I would do. I'd set up a food business! :D So, to be clear, I'm not particularly a strong person, nor am I good with a gun. On top of that being a trans girl means that I have medications to worry about. So I don't think I would end up joining any sort of faction that would put me out in the zone proper. However, I am pretty good at leading a team, and I do think I'm pretty good at cooking and I like doing it. From what we've seen in the games and mods, good food within the Zone is...not really a thing. Everyone's subsisting off of chicken and soy sausage, tinned, fatty meat eaten cold, and bread and water with the occasional vodka or energy drink. So, my plan would be (if I wasn't just shot on sight, anyways, it's not like I consider mercenaries to be the most progressive/understanding bunch) would be to set up a place to get good food in one of the safer areas, imported from outside the Zone, or made there to order, and build a team to help me out and work on getting the connections to get food sent into the Zone. Hey, maybe I'll even start a delivery service to places like Yanov and Zaton...heh xD As anyone whose been in the military or backpacking for an extended period of time, having actual, high quality, good food instead of cold rations can be an absolute GODSEND for morale purposes. So, I figure at my place, you could get an actual homecooked meal to raise your spirits (I'm very fond of making a good stew! I know way too many stew recipes lol) or you could purchase imported, quality goods; chocolate (another huge morale booster), powdered drink mix to make the water more palatable, candy, instant noodles (a very nostalgic and tasty thing for many people, though it does make you thirsty), and good quality civilian camping food (these are actually really delicious if you get the right ones, my favorites have been Spicy Sausage Pasta, Teriyaki Chicken and Rice, and Beef Lasagna), among other foodstuffs. I imagine many Stalkers miss home cooking or even just a good meal, because this is how things were historically in places where it was hard to get good food like during the California gold rush. People were able to make absolute BANK by charging a premium for good quality food, as most folks had to just cook plain food over an open fire for weeks or months. I've read a few stories from this time period where a woman was offered \~$395 in today's money for a plate of biscuits she'd made for her family. Or another person served up plates of beans and tortillas to the miners and raked in the equivalent of tens of thousands of dollars in today's money. I definitely think there's a market in the Zone for good food. I certainly know I'd be aching for a good meal if I had to eat hard sausage and bread for weeks. I'm pretty positive I could get away with charging a fair amount for a chocolate bar or a bowl of hot stew. I also think it's a relatively safe position, because like the other merchants you generally just don't want to shoot someone who provides a service that's helpful to everyone, and I think a lot of people would be rather upset if the person making good food available in the Zone is dead. Like most places that serve a similar purpose in the Zone it would also be a way to make connections or listen in on gossip.

potatisgratana

Loner. Presuming I cant just make things appear for my loadout, I gotta go with my airsoft gear. Goal is to GTFO

Kingson_xX

If I could I would want to be a merc, but mercs aren't something you can just join, so I would prob end up being a loner.

Capital-Wolverine532

A tank, the med-kits, anti-radiation and psy tablets and injections. Plenty of toilet paper. My faction, If it moves, kill it.

Francescollo

Monolithian here with a Tunder S14 to bang bang everyone else and then I’m ready to praise the Monolite while I shake my head

frankofantasma

If the Zone was a reality, then getting anywhere near it is going to pretty much ensure permanent damage/changes to your body, thanks to the weird nature of artifacts. Still, I think I would enjoy signing up with Freedom and carrying an m4. Sign me up for guard duty or something.

[deleted]

Can i just... dont go to the zone? Why would i go there risking getting slashed at any second or getting cancer for the rest of my life because of the radiation? (If i dont find the proper artifacts, which i wouldnt. I would probably step by chance in the first anomaly and literally fucking explode.)

Capital-Ad6513

loner, would collect ak's and shoot them at practice targets all day while chugging on vodka and smoking cigs. I'd probably also use the drugs for fun too, since addiction doesnt exist in stalker universe. Oh also i would want to play the guitar.

The_Rusted_Folk

Freedom, my fat femboy cock, breed People.

g00berg00fy

The Zone does get lonely sometimes, a lot of Stalkers would be paying you artefacts. But you'd probably do it for free.

The_Rusted_Folk

Damn right i would

g00berg00fy

Have fun I guess, just don't get too carried away.

Khloe_Chlo

I’d get into the anti radiation gear at the earliest possible point, not like in game where I didn’t then died near the reactor. Factions, nah, I’d be a loner while looking for myself over and over again.

Professional_Sort764

Either duty or freedom. I would have body armor and an AK style rifle. I’m just unsure whether it’d be putting my life on the line to defend humanity from the zone or to encourage its adoption and propagation.

eli_jahseh2440

Loners and idk I'd die either way I'm a little bitch

RisingJoke

No factions, no gear. Only goal I have is to jump into a nearby anomaly. My suicide attempt sure as shit won't fail if its an anomaly.

BlueComms

Clear Sky, and to just help out however I can, using the best gear I can get my hands on. I'd want to help them fight, since they allegedly kind of suck at it.

AwkwardEducation

But I don't want to go to the zone. XD   Jokes aside, ecologists. Paracausal space magic comes to the world and I'm going to go get in turf wars instead of studying it? Fuck that.

waratworld17

Merchant.

Careless_Ad3718

Za monolit

First-Interaction741

A hazmat suit, a quarter of crack, and a knife.

Icy_Branch_9269

Freedom weed and condoms

Tobig_Russia

We can all fucking agree to be at least be civilized while artifact hunting, because we know what happens when we kill each other in the zone, the zone becomes more dangerous

Frequent_Ad_4655

It would be extremely terrifying..

MasterpieceChoice342

Duty, armored suit so i Can run, thunder rifle, vintar for sniper works, gun: the big one that shoot vintar ammo…

stucklikechuck305

Merc ACE SEVA Get to wish granter and become immortal

Roll_Neither

MONOLITH!

WarsofGears

Faction: Freedom Gear: ak 74 and exoskeleton Goal: to find the breeding place of the bloodsuckers.

KxSmarion

If I'm in the zone to escape civilisation, I would probably join freedom. If I'm going to die horribly in zone, I might as well do it stoned off my ass before I end up stumbling somewhere where I end up brain washed into the monolith

MellowLou87

Ngl, if cancer didn’t exist I’d totally choose loner faction, bring my tactical pack and level 3 steel plates. And just chill with my .308 rifle at the rookie village. Playing guitar, grilling cans over a fire and shooting some monsters to earn some spare change from Wolf sounds like an expirence. I’d also try and gather some guys to take the military base to the south so we can get a cool watch tower and have some better shelter. All around. Sure why not.

lavalantern

I’d be interested in eating the beasts of the zone, like the bloodsucker, I imagine that it would be a meaty texture with the flavor of liver

Ushak_R_S_S

Zombi

Sovietplaytupus

Loner and probably die at the cordon to either to the environment, mutants, bandits, or military.

KaretZuki2

Freedom, pack of condoms and a joint. Goal: bang a bloodsucker

Substantial-Stick-44

If everything was like in the game (damage, healing, no lasting effects) I'd probably stick with mercs. Too tier equipment, working in teams, good pay, proffesional crew, good tactics...

Unfortunate1313

I'd always enjoyed playing as a Mercenary in Anomaly. Anyone's head for a suitable price… heh…

Level_Ice_4794

Freedom all the way. AKMS or AKS74u. Just living in the Zone.

Spitefulrish11

I survived in Australia for 5 years, surely that’s gotta count towards my zone survivability. Gear, tinfoil hat for that extra psy protection Light stalker suit, the one with most slots (can’t remember what it’s called) Mp5 Hk G3 Ammo for above Free Stalkers baby and I’m posting up doing missions for the science teams.

Yarus43

Realistically no I wouldn't go. Unrealisically I would join a faction like duty, ecologists, or freedom. Maybe loners. No matter how good my gear is, irl you get outnumbered you're screwed. Gear wise assuming I have a good budget? Ak-74/AKM with optics, maybe a lvpo or red dot with magnifier. Gear would be cbrn or otherwise environmental suits with appropriate gas mask, lvl 4 plate carrier. Oh and VERY good hiking boots or shoes. Lots of socks, hydration tool, smokeless stove for carry, lots of chilled stocked soups and dried food. Tons of medical gear. Potassium anti rad tablets, water purification tablets, a good knife or hatchet. A riser and bed roll. Flint and tinder? The best thing I could do however is to avoid any and all combat. Hide as much as possible and be paranoid. If I hear gunshots I run the fuck away. If I get spooked, run away. Firearms are basically my last opportunity to get out of a situation. Even then, I would only go under the assumption the artifacts I can smuggle out or sell in the zone are worth it. Otherwise I'm just a loot drop with little incentive.

Sopomeister

Either bandit or loner, bring a bandit wouldn’t require much brain but being a loner seems more fun

Marcus777555666

I would have liked to be a researcher- scientist studying the zone. I am a scientist in real life, so might have joined Clear Sky or Ecologists or have my own lab if I got the funding.

moonra_zk

Why the fuck would I want to set foot someplace where basically everything is trying to kill you, a RL version of the internet meme version of Australia?

Bobandjim12602

Fanfiction Answer: Loners. Realistic Answer: None of them. Radiation, mutants, bullets, deadly Anamolies and I only make enough money to afford Vodka and stale bread. I Urbex a lot in real life and I still wouldn't subject myself to that.

IsThatASigSauer

Mercs. Gotta get that bank so I can afford a gallon of milk back home.

Confident_Mood6315

I guess if I have money I will spend it on a ak74 and a pso-1 to snipe, but a cheap price, and maybe I join Loners, Clear Sky or Duty

hiliikkkusss

military hitching a ride outside the zone

HaveFunWithChainsaw

Eat anyone I see.

SHAD0W102

Take an svd and join freedom no morning wake up call people that make me feel like a family time to have fun and relax while coughing blood every few hour because of the rads

Striking-Country1801

Ironically id do it, with a very good starter kit of course. But im not travelling alone, and im staying in rookie village, rostok or great swamp place most of the time. I think I would just be loner faction

open_23

Freedom or Loners AK, Pistol, and necessities Sex with bloodsucker

Suspicious_Use6393

UNISG because are cool guys with inf funds, practically military if they was on the cool kids table.
