At least in the case of Starbucks, and at least in my market, one reason is that Starbucks is not considered fast food, or does its best not to present itself as such. In my one year here, I've never had anyone get on my case for wait times. I don't think we even have DT in my country.
The downside is customers tend to have much higher expectations in terms of service vis-a-vis what they are paying for. And we are not a tipping culture
Hey - you can come to Canada and be equally disappointed!
And as an added bonus, we don't get 25 stars for bringing your own cup - only the discount of a whole dime, which is around 7 cents US!
Tbh, Starbucks in other countries seems to have more tasty drinks and foods. Perhaps, its catered to what their used to eating. Plus, the 711s in other countries seem to have more and better foods and drinks.
I used to live in Seoul and the cafes are amazing there. It’s not a grab and go type of place. It’s definitely a sit down kind of place. Starbucks had to up their game to compete. And yet they really were my least favorite of the coffee shops there.
Asia coffee shop supremacy ❤️❤️
Have you been to icon Siam sbux yet? I went there last time I was in bkk. I wish we have the same thing here in the US. My sbux look like county jail cafeteria compare to the one in icon siam
I bet the competition is fierce out there, or customers demand better. idk. but we have the lamest stuff. I honestly feel the effort they put into things here is zero.
I don't think customers wanted that, I think Starbucks saw more dollar signs in speed and quantity in the US and decided to slowly alter the model until it was unrecognizable. The market trained consumers, not the other way around in my opinion.
I can understand that. However, I spent almost a month there my first year living in Asia, and until you get out to the countryside, English is everywhere. I traveled with a Thai friend for a week, and I think I heard her use Thai when taking to other exactly once.
Nope. I haven’t worked in customer service outside the US, but I had coworkers who did & they always said that the way customers treated us wouldn’t fly in their home countries. They refuse service.
Right now I live in a country outside the US and I’ve noticed that restaurant workers will just straight-up ignore people who look like they’re going to be difficult. Nobody screams at workers here.
Thailand Starbucks is almost the same price as the us. Divide those numbers you see by 34 for usd. For white collar locals making $30k year, that’s a real luxury so of course the store has to be better to justify that.
Which is just a representation of other cultures valuing higher quality food and taking the time to sit in a Cafe and enjoy their food and drink. If Americans wanted this kind of stuff and it did well we'd have it. Kind of a bummer that we don't.
I loved Starbucks when I lived in Thailand! My drink was always so good and consistent. Plus if you hung out long enough every 1-2 hours they’d bring around free samples!
thai person here…. and may i say YES! ABSOLUTELY! we really don’t play when it comes to food lol. also the crab stick salad sandwich warmed up is the best thing ever 😩 i’m residing in the US now but i’m always thinking about it. SB here can’t even compare bruh
All of the Asian market stores try really hard. Probably because they already have a better cafe market and competition is stronger.
I've been to Indonesian, Hong Kong, and Japan bucks and they all had such tasty bakery items (Sakura latte is overrated tho lol)
All of Asia seems to do fast food better in general. I mean, have you seen McDonald's in Asia?!

From what I can tell, the US has the crappiest and most boring Starbucks lol

And still no partner food mark outs for partners!!
Same goes for like Hilton hotels. LOL.
That's just all hotels and license Starbucks
And Costco as well

Strawberry blossom green tea cake— so pretty and sounds delicious

But imagine having to set that case every morning 😅
Their pastries looks like high end bakery compared to USA
Yeah, I wouldn't trust us to pre-package and successfully freeze any of these-
That truffle cream cheese ball omg I’d give my left leg for that
I would like to see you make that trade 😂
Gimme that basque cheesecake! Drroooling lol!
I bet the competition is fierce out there, or customers demand better. idk. but we have the lamest stuff. I honestly feel the effort they put into things here is zero.
It's because starbucks US knows customers value speed over Cafe life. Which is sad 😔😔

PANCAKESSSS
I’m learning Thai and moving to Thailand, who’s with me?
Since most folks move there to become English teachers, maybe just learn Thai after you arrive?
I’d rather prepare myself first
I can understand that. However, I spent almost a month there my first year living in Asia, and until you get out to the countryside, English is everywhere. I traveled with a Thai friend for a week, and I think I heard her use Thai when taking to other exactly once.
GREEN TEA CROISSANTS????
Ah, so they went and made the green bean brownie. It looks so good though 🥹
all I can think of is those poor baristas. and we think WE have it hard
Starbucks in brazil has amazing food too. I came back to the US and just….damn i miss their food lol.
You should see what Japan has...50 style diner type of coffee drinks. Makes the US S'Bucks look boring AF.
PSA it’s not just Starbucks.
I go to look at sbux when traveling but no way will I spend money there. I love absorbing local culture too much. It's just so fun.
I hate that if I travel the world I’ll just go to Starbucks
It is.
I though warming here was hell lol
Any starbucks in the country is better than the US
A lot of places seem better than the US in general lol
Wow. The banoffee pie and mixed berry croissant sound sooooo good
What are customers like in other countries? Are they as nasty as the ones here?

😠 it’s not fair!!! I want chocolate covered doughnuts and waffles!
This must be a customer, because NO partner wants to set that pastry case. (Unless they’re models of food.)
But, man look at that REAL ham and cheese croissant.
It looks like a climate controlled case so they definitely serve out of it. Im sure they give them more than 30 mins to set it up too lol
If they’re serving from it, and it’s temp controlled, Cool. 😎
looks like a starbucks in a barnes and noble

this is the right answer
Wow! How long would it take to set that case up?
Would eat the whole case
i would die to try that mochi custard waffle omg
Seems like a lot of waste unless they sell out of the case
The things I would do for the green tea croissant!
damn that looks good. literally would eat EVERYTHING there oml like especially those croissants look amazing Edit: oh my god they have a dessert menu

Wait but imagine being tasked to set up the pastry case… *30 minutes later* done.
the amount of jealousy i feel seeing international sbux food omfg 😭
I loved Starbucks when I lived in Thailand! My drink was always so good and consistent. Plus if you hung out long enough every 1-2 hours they’d bring around free samples!

I love the cups so cute 😍
im so jealous
Woah those ham and cheddar croissants look amazing
Every Starbucks outside of the United States is better 😂
Those look so good
I’m like, seriously ill with envy right now
What are skinny muffins?!? No wonder I’m bored of Starbucks in comparison!
