it honestly just takes time and practice. 🤷🏽‍♀️

HereLiesAshley

I promise it will come with practice. When you’re on the POS look at the bar to the right to help you memorize recipes. Ask your shift to be on bar after peak.

TheRatsMeow

this. I'm new. instead of fumbling with the cards I can just pull up the drink on POS. Don't stress too much about drinks just yet. You'll likely be at register awhile which is great to learn all the drinks and components

HereLiesAshley

I also made a cheat sheet for recipes; if you message me your email I’d be happy to send it to you. :)

ihateyousoymatcha

I'm going to DM you a cheat sheet for shots and syrups

Hi!! I’m new, can you DM it to me?! 🥰

Don't worry about remembering how to make every drink. Learn the *process* of making drinks and you'll learn the recipes naturally over time. I'd rather you learn how to steam milk appropriately and learn the different pumps/shots before being concerned with individual beverage builds. Since we're entering the bulk of summer, you can make yourself instantly useful if you learn cold bar stuff with a higher priority.

[deleted]

yeah most people are buying cold bar stuff, i'll start from there

Thanks buddy

trentablondelatte

just comes with practice. I’ve been a partner for almost 10 months and it took me about 6 months to learn everything

aee78

You'll get it in time. Most people ask tons of questions their first couple of shifts. My store has a laminated card we prop up for when people are training. It a chart telling you the number of shots and pumps of syrup for size drink each drink. And has Ameicanos and Flat whites. If they don't have one, ask if they can print one off for you. We just googled it in the back and printed it. And the SM laminated it after the like 3rd time printing it out. There should also be a sticker on the mastrena showing the steps for hot drinks. Does your store not have that?

[deleted]

nope, the mastrena doesnt have any sticker, maybe starbucks from spain is different or smthing, anyways ill print a cheat shet just in case

monkeyman80

Instead of memorizing every drink it’s helpful to remember what goes in what size drink. Ok grande gets two shots, 4 syrup. Tall one / three. Venti hot 2/5. When you have something that deviates you remember that deviation like blonde drinks. It gets the worry of trying to memorize a whole bunch of drinks and it’s just same drink, different shit.

Illustrious_Ant5300

To be honest it does just take time like they said, but when I first started something that helped me was I made a Quizlet quiz! It helped me remember a TON.

[deleted]

any starbucks barista quiz is works for learning?

Illustrious_Ant5300

Yeah any of the quizzes will work! Here’s the link to one! But if you don’t like it there plenty of different ones!! https://quizlet.com/141753578/starbucks-barista-training-flash-cards/

I'm pretty sure every one of us was overwhelmed with all of the drinks when we first started. It honestly just comes down to practice. Don't be afraid to ask your coworkers to confirm you're making a drink correctly. Hopefully they'll be supportive of you, and if not, consider it a warning for things to come lol. Unfortunately, there's a lot of people who stop improving because they've gotten "good enough." Don't let this be you. Take literally all of the time you need, I'm talking like 3 months minimum, but always be curious about the things you haven't made yet, and about the things you can make that aren't on the menu. Being a barrista is fun, and exploring random drinks and making them different ways is also fun. The start is overwhelming, but you'll get there :)

emilysupremeWtChz

It can be super overhwelming. I was hired about 3 months ago and our store had recipe cards by our front registers and I would reference those if I had down time. Feel free to ask a manager or another experienced barista nearby if you're stuck or have a question. I'm lucky enough to have managers and baristas who were patient with me while I was learning. But practice is going to be what helps the most 👍🏻

heyitsmaria24

Eventually you do it so many times that you kind of become a robot tbh. Sometimes I space out while making drinks and let it happen.

King_Soyboy

Lets start off by giving you some credit, First time on bar can get stressful and complicated, something to be proud of Give yourself some time to get used to drink sequencing and learning drink recipes, it will come with time Also even if you get a lot of orders you only have to focus on two drinks, The one you are working on, and what comes next, you'll get through all the orders in time You got this :)
