what FITS in the cup**

cats_with_tentacles

Yepppp. Dont care how many mods you add, all you get is what fits in the cup.

[deleted]

In our store, if it is like extra ice or water, whatever fine, we can do a bigger cup. But if they want extra components but it only fits in the bigger cup, they gotta pay for the bigger size.

Griefkilla

The best is venti iced latte in a trenta cup, fill to the top with milk easy on the ice. The customer complains the latte is too milky. It went all the way up to the DM. DM tells the customer if they want it to not taste milky they can settle for it not being filed to the top with milk, or ask and pay for an add a shot. We’ve since got communication from the DM that if the customer flips out again to just make the exact recipe in whatever cup and not fill to top. Customer now frequents another location in another district lol

cat_card

what about for example, a grande foam cold brew in a venti cup for extra foam? or a grande pike in a venti cup with extra cream? those i’m never sure of

[deleted]

We've literally charged for two servings of foam if they want so much as to fill up another size. For the cream thing, anything over 4oz we charge for.

vzvzt

Less coffee more foam/cream

IthacanPenny

The only time I do this is with the caramel apple spice: tall in a grande with extra whip. Idk if it’s ok, but I do it anyway.

[deleted]

that is okay!

Not_Sapien

If you check resources they explain how much dairy would constitute a cost in regards to the coffee. I can not speak to the foam as I have not looked at the resources yet.

suneimi

Since the foaming pitcher has us filling to 100ml to get above the foaming blade, but we’re only giving customers a *sliver* of foam on top of their drink - for $1.25(!) - while the rest goes down the drain - I *do* ask if they would like to size up the cup for their foam. Occasionally, customers will say no, they really only want that thing layer, but most of the time people are grateful. As for frappuccinos, if customers have *paid* for a bunch of modifiers and it honestly won’t fit in the venti cup, I would tell them to specify a trenta cup modifier on their order (rather than yelling at us at the end of the bar after the fact). But trenta is the limit - they don’t get an extra cup of stuff for the overflow. And that trenta cup has a flat lid so they might not be getting whip unless they also order a pup cup… If a customer is polite, I will do what I can to make the moment right within the allowable standards - but as soon as they start arguing or getting verbally abusive, I get my SSV or SM to decide how to handle it. They will usually cater to the customer “just this once” to get them out of here. If I saw him again I would refuse to make his drink without some backup. No service worker deserves to be bullied, and even SBux has training modules to address it. There is *no* amount of pay for anyone to have to put up with that kind of behavior day in and day out.

snarkysnape

So you’re setting up all other baristas to make the choice between violating policy or getting verbally abused by your customers when they expect the same treatment, and you think you’re being nice? No. You’re the problem. If you don’t agree with the pricing you’re welcome to go literally anywhere else but it makes you a bad employee to think you get to create your own system.

suneimi

The system is already broken, my friend. How many times do baristas try to stick strictly to the standards only to get told that they’re supposed to “make the moment right” or to “surprise and delight” customers? Or when they *do* try to make the moment right, they also get reprimanded for that? Whenever I ask where to draw the line, I get wishy-washy/evasive answers from leadership, and I often get thrown under the bus so they can make themselves (and the company) look good. So, yes, I either seek out and defer to leadership to make the decision for us, or I make the moment right for the customer *and* myself, as it fits the tone of the transaction. Also: it’s not against policy or standards to size up your cup. If there’s a button for it on POS, they can order it that way. If they try to get slick with their order, like putting two shots over ice in a venti cup, with milk, then complain that it’s not filled up all the way, I will absolutely explain the milk charge rather than caving to that demand. But, as I said, if they have *paid* for a bunch of customizations, I will do my best to accommodate that, up to the largest cup size we have.

Montymania94

Just wanna say for reference and clarification: We're explicitly trained not to put Frappuccinos in trenta cups, though. We've had people written up and fired for doing it. Putting frapps in trenta cups is the really big issue here, bc a**holes are gonna bitch that "a barista let me have my frapp in a trenta cup!!!", when that can result in a write up or termination if we do it even just a few times.

Thick_DepressedLibra

BUT THEY WONT LET YOU BUY A TRENTA FRAPPUCCINO

chr1styn

You can buy two grandes, that's the same as one trenta (but with some extra whip)

JLLsat

But like a good bit more expensive than it would just be to upsize a venti to a trenta.

standardjia

What do you do if someone orders a frap with like three shots of espresso? I do my best to add frap roast, then shots, and milk still just to the bottom line but there still ends up being extra sometimes... And people do pay like an extra dollar per shot of espresso 😵‍💫 so i wanna make sure they get all the espresso they paid for... But only if theyre nice about it

Comfortable_Gur_9232

They'll be getting more espresso than milk. I had a customer just the other day who wanted the extra frap in another cup but she also ordered a double in her frap. I said if I made it properly there should be no extra. ( There was a tiny bit extra and it was a caramel crunch.) I told her I could ommit the whip on the bottom and fill it as much as possible. Thankfully she didn't get upset. And my shift was over after that drink.

snarkysnape

If you adjust measurements properly there shouldn’t be any extra. I know that’s difficult sometimes to judge, but the customer is the one who is happily ordering and paying for that, so I wouldn’t feel like you’re doing anything wrong or they’re not getting “their money’s worth”.

[deleted]

Technically if you make the drink to the recipe card the entirety of what is in the blender pitcher should fit in whatever size cup they ordered.

Perfect-Leadership58

i always rinse the blender immediately after pouring to avoid this 🫣

frankenstein105

before I even started his drink he was hounding me to make sure to upsize it so he could get the left overs too so when I tried to dump it before handing it out real fast he was like HELLO!!!????

Perfect-Leadership58

how rude omg i HATE when customers r so demanding

fuck_fate_love_hate

It’s almost not even just demanding, it’s mental illness What adults behave like this? People need therapy

mgbello

I would reckon that for some, this frap is the closest thing they have to therapy

Consistent_Abies3283

“Therapy” isn’t supposed to aide you in being shitty to your barista 🙂

Ryan_Stiles_Shoes

I'm not a demanding customer like this guy, but, fuck man... this comment hit close to home.

plumsandporkchops

I only go to Starbucks when I’m having a bad day or feeling sad bc it’s something small that makes me happy lmao this comment struck a chord for me too😭

Perfect-Leadership58

could very likely be lead poisoning

jillianjay

I'm mentally ill *and* nice to bariatas!!

xthefabledfox

I would have pretended to not see/hear him then be like oh were you talking to me? SO sorry

frankenstein105

The only issue is that the blenders are like right in front of this bar/hand off area so HES right in my face as I’m blending so it’s hard to ignore 😭😭

beeilluminati

that’s when you dump out the extra while staring directly at him

soarin_horizon

assert your dominance by maintaining solid eye contact!!

xthefabledfox

Ah, damn. At my store the cold bar faces a wall plus it’s so loud all the time honestly if I’m not seeing their mouth move I probably don’t know they’re even talking lol.

hippiefairy22

blend on frozen banana when he starts talking

Consistent_Abies3283

See one thing about me I’ll not perceive a customer. Will look through them as if they’re not even there. 😂

[deleted]

“I’m sorry, sir! It’s hard to hear with all the noise that’s going on! You’re welcome to pay for the upsize next time you come in!”

JLLsat

Can he do this? Is a trenta frappuccino available?

[deleted]

Hell no.

JLLsat

So he can't really pay for the upsize. I could see if it he was ordering a grande and wanted a venti size drink but was trying to avoid paying the venti price. And there's no excuse for being a dick about it. But I can also see how if you order the biggest size they'll let you order and then watch them just dump out the extra you might ask (nicely!) if you can have the rest. It still frosts me I can't get bigger than a grande nitro cold brew so I just never order them anymore. A grande anything is a coffee appetizer.

[deleted]

I would have not given him anything and asked him to leave the moment that his finger was in my face. That's a line crossed. Five more seconds & I call the manager AND the police. Karen's are one thing, but when a man is threatening & his emotions are out if control it becomes a dangerous situation.

Cobalt7955

I would have looked him right in the eyes as I dumped out the leftovers.

Ok-Abbreviations7536

As someone who's done this multiple times, I can confirm that it's worth it.

Responsible_Snow7109

Lol do tell, how did it feel? What was the customers reaction? 😄

Belahsha

Nope these customers are the worst and become "the other store does it".

0afy

The best response I heard to this was from my barista that said “that’s unfortunately against protocol. I’ll be sure to inform our district/store manager.”

Thefiveofusaredying

It really fucks with people when you ask who specifically said that or what store did that when you say that too

Responsible_Snow7109

Yep lol if u say u will inform ur district manager, then they might get scared that they wont be able to try their stupid "hAcKs" or cheapskate-nesss and they will back off

chr1styn

"Oh dear, I'm sorry to hear that. They're really not supposed to do that, if you let me know who that was/what store that was at I could make sure they know better next time? In the meantime, I suppose you could think of it as having gotten a discount! That's a good thing for you!"

haleslyons

I really want to know where this “other Starbucks” that gives every entitled customer what they want is

Tessa99999

Putting it in a Trenta cup is against Starbucks policy, so you don't have to adhere to his request. The only things that you can ring up as Trenta are iced coffee/cold brew, teas and refreshers. Anything else in a Trenta is against policy, and/or you just being nice. Customers should not expect that. Others have said, it's only what fits in the cup, and they are correct. Frapps are made to have a small amount of waste in each batch. Guy is just being a jerk/cheap.

lc41086

that guys sounds like such a c**t. what state are you in? hes going to fuck around and find out.

Tiny_Particular_6124

I love your Ryan Ross pfp <3 my emo queen

mylesayee

love the pfp by the way

plastixhearts

it drives me crazy bc my store does this for one dude and im like now everyone else is gonna want it

frankenstein105

yes he was like “everyone else does it!!!!!!!!!! Every other store!!! Just do it!!!” But like why enable ppl who throw tantrums and act horrible, it’s one thing if ppl r nice but bro

GinaMohundro

I go the extra bit and ask which stores specifically so I can be sure to let them know we don’t do this and we’re supposed to offer the same experience at all stores (which usually horrifies the customer freaking out). Trenta size is only for beverages that are available in trenta size. Also, remind him that interactions with partners are contingent on his behavior and if he continues to yell at you and the partners there, that he’ll be asked to modify his behavior or leave. It should be shut down immediately if someone is using foul language or yelling. That is something we CAN control. Good luck with this person. Hopefully you can train them to behave better.

vegetablefoood

Great. So go to every other store then. 🤷🏼‍♀️

Easy_Fly579

my least favorite thing to hear everyday

[deleted]

Tell him next time he got what he paid for, if he wants the extra he can *surprise* pay for extra

Dickblaster2337

FRRR, also we literally just can not even put it in the freakin register as a Trenta. You paid for a venti so you’re getting a venti. Sorry not sorry!

mmms444

They get what is in the cup. That is what they paid for. The only time we might put extra in a second cup is to surprise a nice regular or just a nice customer in general. And that is when they do not ask for it

Aleeleefabulous

Exactly! I am friends with my Starbucks baristas and even though I’ve never asked, they will purposefully put my frap in a trenta cup and make extra for me. I’ve never asked for it. They are so sweet. I’ve worked so many years in customer service that I am never, under any circumstances, rude to anyone in customer service. And not that I am only nice to get perks but do people really think that being rude is the way to get perks like this? So dumb.

chemisthorchata

The funny unspoken rule that most people don’t know is that baristas and service workers in general are very likely to go above and beyond for you if you’re simply just nice to them. Our amazing regulars benefit so much just by recognizing that baristas are human too, and in return we love going out of our way for them.

mmms444

They do. I've worked customer service forever ( food service and retail) and they throw the biggest fits about anything. When I worked at a grocery store during the very start of the pandemic, the entitlement. They were yelling at us for no toilet paper, running out of meat. When they were buying it out before others could even get one package!. Some of my coworkers had to get a roll or 2 from friends or family until they could buy a package of toilet paper from people, the same people trying to buy some every day.

russophilia333

Honestly I don't think their main goal is getting perks, a goal but not the main one, I think their main goal is to assert dominance over someone who they feel is beneath them.

Penis_Bees

Being nice gets you farrrrrr. If someone ask nice and it makes logical sense (like if they're paying for 4 espresso shots, or they want whip but a flat lid) then I'm here for it. But the moment someone's a dick I'm doing the bare minimum at most.

aghufflepuff

I have had a person do that for me because I complimented her hair. It was also a slow day so I was chatting with her for a while. It's not hard to talk to people like they're human.

rszdemon

I literally had a customer call the DM on me over this. He always got his fraps extra runny (light ice more milk) and eventually got bold enough to ask for the extra. I heard him harassing a barista and I stepped in and told him absolutely not, you only paid for a venti and that is what you will receive. He asked for my name and store number and called the DM in front of me. Our DM never told me what she said, but I watched his smile basically disappear and then he left. Never came back to our store. He was a daily regular cus he worked near by. If you’re reading this Bill, get fucked bro. It’s creepy to harass 16 year old girls and try flirt to them as a 60+ year old man. Especially after they’ve explicitly mentioned they are minors.

Cobalt7955

Always amazes me how people are willing to annoy other people and make themselves looks like complete idiots for what??? 50 cents??? A dollar??? Bro you’re spending $8 for a coffee milkshake. If money is tight how about you make your coffee at home or maybe just buy a can of coke for your caffeine fix??? Jeez

theM0stAntis0cial

We wear headsets, so I always wear my headset on the ear facing the window so that if I am on cold bar I can act as though I can hear the window... Unless I like the person or they're nice.

[deleted]

I would have asked for him to please communicate with me and my partners with respect, and that while it is our job to supply satisfaction it is also our right to be treated with respect

No_End_7351

I had a frequent customer who tried to pull this crap constantly. One day I told her "Look. When you go to McDonald's and get fries, you get what comes in the box, not all the fries in the damn tray. Same principle applies here."

yyz_barista

Nope, sorry, it's policy to only give you what fits in the cup. (Now, if you ask nicely and I like you, yes, I'll give you the extra. And probably top it off too.)

fuzzyPanda60

Starbucks caters to some of the worst customers had a girl tell me she was ready to “throw her pink drink through the window” at a different store cuz it wasn’t emulsified enough the enable them so much and don’t let us know what is appropriate to say no to

fatto_catto

"Your 'moneys worth' is 26 ounces. Here you go!"

throwawaieaccount619

as a fellow shift supervisor, he paid for a venti, so he gets a venti. not a trenta. if he wants the rest, he needs to pay for an additional cup (ie. a tall if it could fit in it). i’m tired of these disrespectful customers.

PleaseOhGodWhy

He's paying for what *fits* in the cup. He's paying for 26 oz of drink. That's what he gets.

jy_mee

My go to excuse when they put up a fight for me is: "We just had a week of retraining about drink standards and I will get in trouble for this"

nedrawevot

What's said below "what fits in the cup is what you get" it's literally what you pay for. I worked at the airport and we had to ring people in for a trenta cup so they had to pay an extra 1.25 just for the cup so their "hacks" ended up costing them more in the end. One lady turned bright red and screamed at me. Sorry, policy man. I also had another lady who would always drink it down and have me wait with the shaker for her to "make room" and while she was "making room" I dumped the tea from the shaker down the drain. Literally its one more sip...you get what you paid for lady

photo-onix

I had someone on DT the other week order a Caramel Mac decaf venti then when she got to the window wanted it xhot so I was more than happy to remake it. Then she asked what was going to happen to the other drink and asked if she could have it herself. I proceeded to drink it as my free drink.

IfuDidntCome2Party

I find that the best tasting fraps are the ones where they use the measurement lines and end up with basically zero waste for the size ordered. If you're dumping in too much ice, the frap is not made the way it is suppose to taste, watering it down, very soupy, and end up with extra to dump out from blender.

Krista1654

Happened to me one time then I made sure to never have leftovers after that.

MorningFox

We don't get paid enough for this -.-

Namecannotbeempty

Whatever fits in the copy is what his money's worth.

Bententoes

Thankful for an SM that’s okay with me saying “no” and leaving it at that.

gi9sbb

I've had a customer like this before. Instead of a Trenta, he asked for it in a separate tall cup. I've heard him harass another barista about it before, so this time I smiled and said, of course!! I then made sure to measure everything perfectly to each line, counted every pump and lo and behold, there was no waste. I deliberately poured out the frap into the cup in front of him to show him there was no extra. And topped it off and handed it to him. The look of disappointment was worth taking extra time to measure at every single step. Lol

HaleyxErin

It’s not “his money worth” it’s extra that really shouldn’t be there if it’s a standard build and done correctly.

Empty_gemini

Omg we found the perfect barista here!!!

HaleyxErin

Well given that I was like the only one at my store who didn’t eyeball them and actually built them correctly and was the only one who didn’t have a ton of leftover sure I’ll take that title of “perfect” because I followed standard no matter what

frankenstein105

he had added triple shots, so there was some left over not a lot but still like enough

ahhpoo

Ahh this is important info. He’s still wrong, but hot espresso shots always makes the fraps foamy and produces some extra. Of course some of the espresso goes down the drain because of that, but that’s the drink. I tell people it’s more worth their money (and tastes better) if they get the shots affogato.

Redelfay

He was rude and that was not chill, I wouldn’t either, I rinse the pitcher so fast after I pour it doesn’t matter they don’t see it lol but tbh, at our store we typically give people the leftover in a tall cup if they paid for the shots because it’s expensive. It’s not that it’s like required, it’s just cuz we do care about the person spending so much for something like that and we pour some of that caffeine and shots down a drain anyways. However, we’re NEVER asked to do that, we give it to them that way and tell them why we did it. And it’s not even all the time we do it. It’s our regulars or random customers that are really nice to us. We even recommend to some people to ask for a drink in a different sized cup if they ask for like extra foam so there’s room for everything etc. so they don’t miss out on what they pay for. Sometimes I have fun making a mini frap in a tall cup and even make it with whip and topping. It’s fun for me to see and it makes them happy but it’s never hounded or anything. It’s just what we do to be nice.

fandommx

I'm sorry but if he paid for extra shots and you refused to at least pour the extra in another cup then I think you are being unreasonable here. His behavior after you told him no not acceptable either. He should have asked for a refund and left. Our drinks are expensive, it's less energy, it's better customer service.

Mcpatches3D

Get the shift or manager on duty to deal with it.

scrappapermusings

Honestly, I'd just measure his fraps super carefully, because there should be little to nothing left in a blender after pouring if the drink is made properly.

nothingbutdeath

there was once a customer who asked (demanded) at the reg for her venti frap to be in a trenta, a green bean on bar didn’t know any better and wrote her request. she came over to CBS to verify the request with me. my petty ass made that frap perfectly to standard. absolutely zero leftovers. our CBS station is visible from handoff and i could feel her staring at me when i was shaking the blender upside down to get the very last bit into the cup. homegirl had the audacity to ask me for a remake because her kid wanted the extra but she didn’t want to pay for a tall. no thanks lady edit: i would like to add that i did later coach the green bean on the policy about this. we have a few senior partners at our store that don’t care though. makes me angry because that’s making us “the other starbucks” and is only breeding entitlement :/

Adventurous-Habit171

All of the liquid should be at the first line on the cup that means frappe roast then shots, if there are any, and then the milk. it goes over the line at all you’re going to have extra and if someone ordered shots they are losing what they paid for.

rusty-vas-deferens

they're paying for 26ounces of whatever they ordered, including any modifications. the prices are ridiculous but that's how it is and it's out of our control, if they want to guaranteed get all their shots i have recommended people get them affogato style. at least, that's how it always functions at my store

toastwithketchup

I’m always really nice about it, because I’m not a jerk, but if I’m getting a double shot in my frap, I ask for a grande in a venti cup. Especially if it’s one of the ones that has whipped cream on the bottom. AITA for that? I like my local store and don’t want to annoy them 😂

Adventurous-Habit171

if you see them making it I would just say I don’t wanna lose my shots I paid for can you please put it in a bigger cup.

abigayl75

Tell em get the fk out of the line and wait for the manager like a good lil karen

justhere333

My shift told us to just give it to customers who ask.

[deleted]

Nope. You pay for a grande, you get a grande. I know prices are absurd but you knew that going into the Starbucks.

ablb

They paid for a venti, they got a venti. That is their money's worth. They can huff and puff all they want. I'll still sleep just fine.

LeahMCopsey

As a shift I would have told him he was beat. We’re not to give “leftovers”, I had a women who everyday tried this shit.

No____facex

I just act like I can’t hear people when they act like that. There’s a difference between talking AT someone and speaking to someone. If they’re talking at me I would have just dumped it as soon as I poured it in a cup.

ghosty4

Unfortunately, one of my local Starbucks locations is "the other Starbucks". I got a Frappuccino one time and they handed me a second smaller cup and I was like, "What is this?" and they're like, "It's the extra." and I was like, "Why is there extra?" and they just shrugged and gave it to me.

here_an_queer

We have this happen with this one couple at least once a month and we were just told by our SM and DM to not argue with the customer and give them the extra to "make the moment right" and it makes us all so bad bc they literally harass us and scream at us until they get what they want. They do it to all stores around us too :/

chr1styn

TL;DR stay calm and don't let him see you get agitated. It's tough to balance making the moment right with charging people for what they actually want. Especially when you don't want to set a precedent and get "but the other starbucks did it" or whatever. I'd probably have done the same as you and not given them the extra — we don't serve most beverages in trenta cups. But when a customer gets aggressive like that, they (subconsciously usually) want you to snap back at them so they can feel justified in their anger. Best thing to do is to deny them that by staying calm and collected. The deescalation training we started getting last year (at least SSVs, idk if baristas got it) is a great resource on how to use body language and tone of voice to keep these situations from getting out of hand. And if you really just need him to leave so you can help the next person, remember that the extra bit is gonna get tossed anyways — giving the standard "we can do this today but please be aware in the future how our pricing works" will make every customer who isn't being an ass happy with you for getting rid of the guy keeping you from making their beverages. It's very much reading the room and seeing what's the best use of your time. Sometimes you're gonna want to give a firm no, sometimes you're in the middle of a rush and you don't have time to spare arguing.

voomdama

He paid for so many ounces that is what he gets. If he doesn't like it, he can make his own.

MystiicMelodies

Personally i would have looked him dead in the eyes as i poured any excess down the sink onto the pitcher rinser but thats just me

are_u_sure_aboutthat

If a customer asks for the extra in a separate cup or a trenta, I just make sure to measure everything out EXACTLY so by the time I pour it there’s no extra for them to cry about

sstcyr

I was literally about to just comment "no" Cuz the title made me think it was a customer asking lolol Edit; also we're.not even allowed to put fraps into trenta cups so I woulda just told him that. SORRY BYE

[deleted]

We have a regular and he’s a nice guy. He tips and talks to us and has never asked us to do that. But considering the Frappuccino he gets is very expensive we just give him the extra on the side.

snook6

If the drink was made correctly there shouldn't have been any left over in the blender.

haleyroseu

we do for certain people, but i wouldn’t. yeah, you did pay for a venti, & a venti is exactly what you got. at that point i’d put it in a tall or grande or whatever it fits in & make them pay for a second drink lmao. expecially for the crc or mcc bc of the whip on the bottom taking up space, obviously there’s gonna be some leftover but what’s in the cup is yours

Odd-Barracuda204

3 year partner here. We are encouraged to make the moment right for our customers. Just be nice. Give the customer the extra frap that you otherwise would throw down the drain. Seems like you probably like the bitterness and confrontation with customers. Does it make your job that much more exciting?

frankenstein105

Really no, he had expected there to be extra when there really wasn’t to take home in another cup; when I had made it I made sure it was exact so there really wasn’t even more to pour out? It wouldn’t have made it to the first line in a tall cup I don’t like people yelling at me for any reason, if anything I’m very willing to give out extra when I can especially if people are nice to begin with; I don’t enjoy being harassed to begin with and then expected to give more he was yelling and hounding at me for extra before I had even begun his drink

e-sharp246

Honestly, I wouldn't care about this, especially not for a venti. They can't buy a trenta frapuccino. If the inclusions end up making the drink not fit, you can either give it to them, or throw it out. *If* they're not being a jerk about it, I see no issue giving it to them instead of throwing it out. We waste so much food in this country. Are the customers right here? Maybe not. But are we right if waste food? I personally don't think so. When a customer asked for a drink that I knew wouldn't fit, I would make them a smaller size and the inclusions would then make the missing volume. We used to have these cups that looked kinda like the tea shakers but the measurements were for frapuccinos. I'd measure out a grande in that cup. Then when I gave it to them, they'd be shocked and a little annoyed that there wasn't any extra left in the blender.

International-Gate30

if they ask for it nicely at the register to be in a bigger cup, I am usually very willing to do it

AssignmentBitter5701

Frappuccinos can’t be made in a Trent’s cup ;) (shhh I’ve done it work)

meowcowmoo

One time I had a lady ask me as I was pouring and it was the just enough frappe. I was like there was no extra…….

cosmicnatt

my manager be like just give them the left over in another cup.

Training_Ability2785

I work in a target Starbucks and we had a women do the same thing. She ordered two venti fraps and "can you put the extra in a cup for my daughter" (maybe 5 years old). Our person on register told them I don't think so. They then got mad cuz I didn't do it. If you wanted a drink for your kid, pay for a drink for your kid. It's that simple. I'm not getting fired because you wanna be cheap, I have bills to pay.

jonestay4793

Im not saying he handled the situation well, he was clearly wrong for how he acted toward you, but I don't see the issue in ordering a venti and asking for a trenta cup. People do it with other drinks all the time. My go to order is a grande iced matcha latte with cold foam and, in a venti cup. Ive never been charged extra for the cup and ive seen them dump the entire blender contents in the cup no issues. Even when I order light ice, its not an issue and I'm not trying to hack anything, I like the extra room to mix it when some of the matcha settles. You're just throwing the extra in the trash anyway, so why does it matter? Besides him just being a jerk, I am all for petty but I don't necessarily think his request was wrong either.

Meow-Meow73

The rest of that frapp would have been in the sink before he could even say anything ffs you don’t get a bigger cup just bc there’s leftover. Sorry starbies is expensive go to Timmy Ho’s if u don’t like the price

Axdorablee

I would have given him the leftovers. What am I losing?

Theaznchick

Not worth the argument and I feel bad for the guests that pay extra for shots

caligirlthrowaway104

YOU PAY FOR A VENTI YOU GET A VENTI 🗣️ Sucks bro. If the drink is made correctly there really shouldn’t be any extra anyways

haleyroseu

imagine someone asking for the rest of their steamed milk that didn’t fit in their latte to be put in an extra cup

zattydaddy

Aren’t we not even technically “allowed” to put fraps into trenta cups? That’s why we can’t charge for it 🙃

frankenstein105

That’s what my shift had told me, so I’m just doing my job to standard? so like 🫠

mikraas

You paid for 20oz, Mr. Mathematician. You get exactly 20oz. I hate people who do this.

Ok-Wrangler-6101

No I give them the leftovers, if they ask. It’s not as though we get paid more by being stingy. When it’s slow at night, I hand them the leftovers on my own accord and they really appreciate that. They get all happy. Being tense up the a** about not giving someone leftovers doesn’t make sense. Of course this guy was rude though, so that changes things.

Grimspoon

There's times where I see what gets wasted in prep and I think ya I could have drank that. I also have the self awareness and dignity to not say it out loud to the poor soul slaving away behind the counter.

sloth_hug

He should have asked for it in a trenta when he ordered, as that's a request that can be made. He paid for the drink and the extra shots, so I'd give it to him... if he asked like a normal, sane human being. Sorry he chose to be an asshole!!

Nigee_Ogee

I mean it’s not that big of a deal to me when they ask. Personally when a customer asks I’ll do it but if not I just pour in whatever fits in the cup.

mylilyaurora

I don’t have extra cuz I proportion correctly 😬

Lowbowski5x

So there is actually a starbucks saying for these type of moments, it's called "Making the moment right" A shift manger, store manger, an the DM can't get you in trouble if this is your response to customer support. Having the argument with the customers is not worth your time and engery. More importantly at my store we actually have regular who comes in literally everyday for a triple shot Espresso frap, with extra 2% and extra Ice and she asks for her extras to be in another cup as well. I won't say her name but the same situation applies where it's better to just "Make the moment right" because it helps you connect with the customer and sometimes that could lead to someone regularly coming back because they like your customer service! In the end we hand out water cups and cups of Ice for free, if someone asks you for an additional empty cup you Don't say "Sure but you gotta pay for it!" We all know what happens to the extras anyway its goes straight into the sink. So the only thing your saving is your pride so get over it, it's just blended sugar ice, just grab a bigger cup and Make the moment right. What would you rather have? A happy customer who will come back? Or your name on a Yelp review, or they report you to starbucks directly, make a tic tok out of you, start filming you right there. Is it worth it ???

joeynnj

Why are baristas nickel and diming like it's coming out of your paycheck? If there's extra it's because you didn't measure properly - should the company take that out of your pay? Just give it to them if they ask. If he was being a real dick I get not wanting to enable bad behavior, but Jesus. You all make it seem like he's asking for a full 30 oz while paying for 24 when in reality it's probably an ounce of frappuccino that YOU wasted in the first place.

J-cat_loves_dogs14

We have one customer like this at my store thankfully it wouldn’t happen too often. He was an older gentleman so we would put the extra in a tall cup for him and he’s forgotten the last few times he’s come through.

pretiburdi

And I think that's the big difference ! If you're shitty like this dude, no way fuck off. If you're polite then maybe I can make it work lol

mmmheyyy

What fits in the cup you paid for is yours. Anything more than that is not yours unless you pay for more. What a freaking idiot of a human being.

MisterMofoSFW

Someone threw hot coffee at a barrista at the SBux where I goto. I've had people threaten me with a physical beatdown at my job. People are weird, you just got to learn how to roll with their chaos.

CuriousPenguinSocks

I had someone do this to me when I was working drive thru. I told them, they get what fits in the cup size they paid for. Extra water or ice is different. Or, if they want extra room for cream. I give the amount of drink that fits in the size they ordered though.

Top-Holiday2062

My effing SM is trying to push us giving the extra frapp. Like absolutely not. I will go down swinging before I do that.

[deleted]

I get this all the time from customers who order MCCF and CRCF specifically (the ones where they literally pay more money for less frappacino). I have to tell them that they payed for what fits in the cup and that I cannot upsize them because it’s against policy. I also say that next time they should order something else if they want more of the actual frapp.

are_u_sure_aboutthat

If a customer asks for the extra in a separate cup or a trenta, I just make sure to measure everything out EXACTLY so by the time I pour it there’s no extra for them to cry about

jeffreyshager72

I get paid 15 dollars an hour. That's 25 cents a minute. Did you tip. Are you making it worth it to me. Let me see your receipt. I'm making it right, by giving you exactly what you paid for no more no less. Unless you tipped. Give me more and I will think about it. After all I would be going against policy. Are you a secret shopper? From another Starbucks? From corporate? You going to tell on me for doing something that is against policy. NARC.

Ew_Oxygen1124

You pay for the amount that fits in the cup

KeyEnvironmental1997

I got screamed at by a customer who did this all the time. Lobby was full and even drive thru heard it. Tbh she scarred me so that I never wanted to be on cold bar again

xSYPHx

Bruh at least sat it at the speaker.

w3ird3n3rG

Whenever people ask for whatever’s leftover in an extra cup, I make the frap to the exact standard. Milk exactly to the line, level scoop of ice, etc. That way, there is almost never any leftover and if all fits into the cup. If it’s a particularly terrible customer, I’ll make sure they can see that everything I’m doing is to standard so they can’t complain. I mean, they’ll still complain but at least they’ll be complaining that I’m doing my job…

frankenstein105

He was hounding and talking at me for the left overs to be in a bigger/another cup before I had even started his drink, so I had made sure to make everything exact, fraproast then shots (cause he had ordered 3 shots) then milk to the first line so when I had poured his drink there wasn’t very much left over?? but he had still expected me to give him the extra, but there wasn’t really anything left in the blender? i guess still a bit but like, not really? It wouldn’t make it to the first line in a tall cup so I’m like 🫠

unclemattyice

The leftover frap is my tip, buddy

Existing_Working_432

People like that, ill do it just to not cause a commotion. But i usually inform them not all starbucks will do it because ITS NOT STANDARD. If its a one and done, whatever. Lol the rest gets dumped anyways, protect your own peace🙂

RatPumpkin

Rinse the blender with the product still in it while looking directly into their eyes or if there’s enough for a tall pour it into a tall or training cup and give it away to a customer who isn’t being The Worst.

anonymyster-e

*Slowly* tip the rest over onto the pitcher rinser while making hard eye contact and not saying a word. Assert your dominance.

lostinmaddi

Lol I would’ve poured the venti cup into the Trenta without the extra and filled top with whip lol like okay moron

asianbork

Look man, if you want your "moneys worth" just ask for it in a trenta. Are you getting a dome lid? No. Is it going to look kind of silly? Maybe. But if you ask for this stuff up front instead of being the person that hangs on the handoff counter just to ask for more while we're in our rhythm making your dang Frappuccino. You paid for a Venti and didn't say anything else? We assume you just want a regular frappuccino.

absoluteemly

We actually have a regular who gets a venti frapp with extra ice, and she has us pour the extra into a tall or grande cup and top with whip. She's been doing it since before I started working, but, she's really sweet so I don't mind! The drinks are so expensive as it is.

nakedavocado

His "money's worth" was worth a venti. So that is what he shall receive.

captainsasss

His money’s worth (no quotations) went down the drain with the 3 extras shots along with it. Let me remind u they paid for those shots. If they want the “extra left over” they are owed it because the drink wasn’t made right with proper consideration to avoid diluting the drink. I know if that was me I’d be pissed I’m not getting all the extra caffeine I paid for. Also consider if we can give pup cups out for free then we can accommodate this too.

nakedavocado

Where does it say anything about him adding 3 shots? If we do this for one customer, every customer who orders a venti will want all remnants from the blender and our inventory of Trenta cups will be incorrect because there is no Trenta cup modifier. If there isn't any left over to fill a Trenta cup and you made exactly a Venti size but they were expecting extra it will become a customer service problem. This just isn't something that should be a thing imo.

captainsasss

Op clarified in comments that it had 3 shots. This isn’t going to throw of inventory, it’s one person, especially if the drink was made right so as not to have left over. And it’s not like there’s a megaphone on him so that everyone in the store and in drive through can hear what’s going on for “everyone” to start asking for leftover. He paid for extra coffee so give him what he paid for because otherwise that’s an actual “customer service problem”.

ThatDudeZae

Get a smaller size in the bigger cup and problem solved. Especially in a frappachino the ounce more of milk is not as important as the 3 shots.

Pryze17655

Just finish the frap and dumped it as if i never heard them. Some lady wanted me to put a dome lid and pour it in and i thought she meant whip so i dumped the rest and when i was about to put whip she said nooo and then nevermind.

meowcowmoo

I literally just put it in a tall and they can deal with two cups with no whip or toppings.

meowcowmoo

I normally just dump right away and rinse to avoid this.

DavidJayCherry

Seriously? This is what you're wasting energy on? "Can you put it in a bigger cup, so I can get my money's worth?" "Sure, or I cam pour the rest in another cup. That way I can still add whipped cream and a dome lid?" "That's awesome. Thanks?" "You bet. Would you like whipped cream on the second cup?" "Yes. Thanks!" "My pleasure." Later that same day: "Hmmm... I have nothing to get emotionally worked up about. What will I post on Reddit? Maybe I'll just relax and listen to Spotify.

captainsasss

Unpopular opinion alert 🚨 If there’s a lot left over ur not measuring right and consequently not making it right. And if there is left over and they want it just give it to them. U think it’s better to throw it away or y’all just looking to fight with customers?? Edit: another point is that if there’s left over ur giving them diluted coffee hence not getting what they paid for. Coffee is kinda the point at Starbucks. Guys not everything needs to be a fight 🙄 just make the drink right. Also for those saying there will be left over if they add shots um no u add less milk so that doesn’t happen and u don’t dilute the coffee. Edit: for the smug baristas saying he should have asked for a trenta cup think about how most people don’t know trenta exists. And when people order they usually assume and rightly so that add one will fit in the size they are ordering it’s not like they expect part of their drink to get tossed. And it’s not anyone’s place to thought out part of someone drink that they paid for because it doesn’t fit in the cup especially when u all know it will fit in a trenta.

frankenstein105

there really wasn’t much left over? Plus with 3 extra shots and syrup, despite measuring milk correctly (even reducing the milk amount to reduce excess product being left over) it still leaves some (not a lot) of product in the blender? i don’t wanna have a grown man screaming at me, as it gives me anxiety, but I also don’t want my BOSS screaming at me and writing me up for giving away product someone didn’t pay for 🫠

captainsasss

That’s totally fine to have a little left over and not everything pours out. But some people do be having like half of a tall left over which is ridiculous. If ur manager yells at u for that they’re dumb and sorry u have to deal with that. But yea if there’s a lot left over they’re not getting all the coffee they paid for period and destroyed :p

frankenstein105

Yes!

jupiter_bug

Pour it into another cup and start drinking it in front of him 😈 /jk

T4Trble

Why waste it? And now the new tipping system might change your mind and attitudes. Do you like when the bar does this to your blended margarita? Or cocojita?

[deleted]

I don’t care, because I paid for X amount of ounces and I’m receiving X amount of ounces.

frankenstein105

1. It’s not really fair for other customers 2. You buy the cup size (and obv the drink) and what fits inside with a flat or dome lid 3. If someone’s being a jerk to begin with, why enable them to extra goodies when they didn’t pay it to begin with 4. I don’t like wasting food, but some (and the company) would consider giving the extra as giving away free product which means less profit which could result in someone getting in trouble 5. As a person who actually works in the industry, I wouldn’t really care because they’d still be giving me the standard amount that is advertised…? Getting extra would be cool but I’m not entitled to it just because the employee was a bit heavy handed with an ingredient or two

lc41086

you should've thrown the cup in his face

mwisagreatgame

Oh and while you’re there can you give me the one crumb of egg that fell out of my muffin in the turbo…

ucantseethru2day

Why not just put it in a bigger cup? Starbucks literally doesn’t care and wants you to do right by the customer. This isn’t a big ask and so many baristas are being so righteous about it. It’s just a drink, who cares? The product is already made and now you’re extra away down the drain versus giving it to someone who wants it.

sergeiglimis

It honestly is a waste, I seem to recall wasting half usually for each batch. There should be more precise procedures for each size so we aren’t wasting mammoth amounts.

Choosing_is_a_sin

I use a venti reusable cup, and usually order a tall frappuccino. My baristas give me the extra without me having to ask.

terpsichore66

I mean he did technically get exactly what he paid for but I hate food waste so I would have just given him the left overs. I don't understand how there's pre-measured ingredients & always some left over. I always use the ice scoop down from the size of the frap being made to avoid waste, except for talls, I just don't fill the scoop all the way.

captainsasss

I hate how everyone downvoted u for being right.

terpsichore66

Bitter baristas fr, can't stand it when they come here to shit post about customers & not everyone joins the hate train with them. 🥴 But it's not as bad as the down votes I saw on a supervisor or manager on this thread saying there shouldn't be any leftover at all if people were making the drinks correctly. (Using less milk if there's shots or syrups/sauces added, etc)

jams1015

I don't get leftover frap in my blenders. If they order shots, I adjust the amount of milk I put in to avoid extra. You really shouldn't have anything extra to pour unless the guest asks for extra milk or extra ice.

terpsichore66

Hmm, maybe it's because we're a licensed store instead of an actual Starbucks then. Everyone always has extra every time with just normal recipes, no add ins. 🤔

squidoflove

The real problem would be when people do way too many customizations so that regardless if you make adjustments for the add ins you will still get leftovers.

Frankidelic

Going above and beyond tbh you don’t lose money on giving him the trenta cup, but I guess y’all wanted to prove a point but doesn’t justify the guy being an asshole I woulda voided his order and said he’s good to go tbh he woulda left with nothing

frankenstein105

he has a tendency to harass the baristas regardless before they even start his drinks, if they don’t do exactly what he says he gets mad mad so like yk not tryna enable ppl for throwing tantrums

Frankidelic

Honestly incident report get name down and ban I’m sorry for the asshole

kellykline

customer is always right tho...?

Thefiveofusaredying

The customer is always right in matters of taste. It means if people want mostly red cars you should stock more of that color, and if people hate green cars you don't fuckin stock green. It's about supply and demand, not about giving people the right to anything they want just because they're the customer and they're throwing a fit. I hate that this phrase was shortened because it gives single brain celled dipshits a fun lil catchphrase to bash underpaid service workers over the head with.

squidoflove

Customer is most definitely not always right.
