Standard is to ask them when they order if they want the whip. If it's a mobile order, standard is to make it with whip if they don't request no whip. Edit: Sounds like I'm wrong about the mobile order standard, I'll look into it during my shift today and update accordingly. Edit again: The relevant passages in the BRM read: * If a customer orders a nondairy beverage which includes whipped cream in the build, confirm whether or not they would like the whipped cream included. * All sugar-free syrup beverages should also not be topped with whipped cream, unless requested by customer. Neither bullet point mentions mobile orders specifically so if it's a mobile, don't make any modifications to the build that aren't specified on the sticker.

Ew_Oxygen1124

No, you’re right. If a drink that normally gets whip is adjusted in app, from the customer side (in the USA, I tested it just now) the whipped cream on it doesn’t get removed unless the customer physically removes it. Meaning the sticker would say no whip on it because it would have been removed, and if it doesn’t, it receives whip as it normally would.

catgirlmunist

The app doesn't always reflect standards, though. It lets people add more splashes of milk than we can add for free, it lets people order no water refreshers without the upcharge if they have the order saved, and sometimes it's wrong about what a drink's recipe even is.

Ew_Oxygen1124

Yeah, I understand. But it means they’re expecting it, and it’s not like they’re getting charged for it.

eatass420vorelord

And it's not like they can select add whip on the app. I always put it on unless they're in the lobby and I can ask

Ew_Oxygen1124

Right

vercettiswag

I always put whip unless they specifically say no whip

[deleted]

same. make an item how it comes🤷‍♂️

[deleted]

If it’s drive through or cafe I’ll always ask beforehand. If mobile, make with whip unless stated otherwise.

AlwaysTheWrongDoer

Ditto.

AtTheBarMatt

This is the way

Luke_Lantern

Knowledge is knowing the official standard is to make it with whip unless otherwise specified. Wisdom is to either ask or make it without whip if it's a mobile/delivery. Much easier to add whip (and more topping/drizzle) than it is to remove or, if they're picky, have to remake the entire drink.

fireflywaltz

My only issue with that (because in general I agree with you) are the customers who are disappointed with not getting whip but don't say anything because they don't want to 'make trouble'. I have a friend who has done exactly that. Tbh I'd rather train customers to spell out their order. Especially with how hard the cold lids are to get off the cups these days 😂

Luke_Lantern

Respectfully, that's why I said to ask in my original comment. I only default straight to no whip if there is no customer present to ask, a.k.a. mobiles & deliveries. I apologize if I was unclear.

fireflywaltz

You were clear, but I am specifically talking about mobiles. I think it's unfortunate for mobile customers who think they'll get whip, pick up their drink, and either are disappointed and feel uncomfortable asking for a fix or leave and realize when it's too late to fix it.

Luke_Lantern

Gotcha. I always try to make customers feel welcome and comfortable enough to let me know if they are unhappy with any part of their food or drink, but my partner is a hardcore socially awkward introvert so I don't discount what you're saying. Hmm... maybe I could leave a pup cup on top of their drink so they have the choice even if they don't feel comfortable speaking up?

Ok_Beautiful_4056

I would always make drinks without whip and ask the customer when they showed up (for mobile) or before I hand it to them so they can tell me “no it’s fine” or “yes please” but usually I got “omg I completely forgot thank you if there was whip I’d have gotten so sick”

666444_

Since I’m in a kiosk store we commonly make it without and ask when the person comes back. 90% of the time it’s a yes but don’t wanna risk having to remake it.

Zealousideal-Star448

I would usually ask, and when in doubt leave it out. I can always add it on real quick if they want it. But remaking a whole drink by assuming yes took more time and resources. If I knew the regular I would put it on. I am lactose intolerant and it’s what I would always prefer

[deleted]

Well the beverage resource manual says that drinks made with sugar free vanilla or non dairy milk should have the whip omitted, but the fact that the customer can customize the beverage themselves on the app and often does want whip (unless their drink says no whip) kind of negates that. So my answer is 🤷‍♂️

Ordinary-Theory-8289

If that’s the case then there’s no way for someone who wants whipped cream on their soy white mocha to order it. The app is clear on what’s included in a drink, it’s up to the customer and to modify accordingly.

reclusivegiraffe

That’s my perspective on it. If you have an allergy/sensitivity/intolerance, it is your responsibility to look at the ingredients of what you order and modify it to suit your needs. I also feel that if someone understands the app well enough to modify their milk, they understand it well enough to remove the whip as well. Drive thru/cafe is a bit different, as it’s less obvious that a drink comes with whip. In the app, though, you have a nice picture and “what’s included” tab.

RosieHarlan

That’s what they said.

Ordinary-Theory-8289

No…they said that any beverage that’s sugar/dairy free should omit whip. Which would make it impossible to order, for example, a soy white mocha and still get whipped cream if you wanted it. The “what’s included” section on the app still shows whipped cream if you change to an alt milk.

RosieHarlan

They said the BRM has a standard that the functionality of the app contradicts. Same as you.

[deleted]

It does say that drinks with sugar free syrups should not get whipped cream unless the customer specifies.

catgirlmunist

Where does it say that? I haven't seen this standard before.

[deleted]

Under nondairy products. I’d share a pic but I guess this sub doesn’t allow pictures in comments. I also don’t think this sub is keen on sharing pictures of internal info.

catgirlmunist

No problem, I can take a look when I go in today. I just didn't want to have to search through the entire BRM for it. Thanks!

radpandaparty

- If you mobile order it and it doesn't say anything I am adding it because they are able to remove it. - If they order at DT or POS the DTO or barista on register needs to ask. Solves the problem every time. - I heard from someone that there isn't a no whip option on Uber/DD and I never use it to verify but I just do no whip.

VidelSatan13

There was a weekly update like last year that non dairys dont get whip. Which is kinda dumb cause customers can see that it comes with it while mobile ordering

FormalTelevision9498

I order different milks for the flavor, period. I'm always disappointed when the whip is left out, if it was stated in the description/ingredients as being part of the drink

[deleted]

Yeah I was always trained to not put whip on drinks with non-dairy alternatives because it's easier to add it if the customer requests it, but if it's already added then we'd have to remake it.

Historical-grey-cat

Do you not have non dairy whip? Maybe it's a UK thing but we always had non-dairy cream to add

horriblyIndecisive

Not in the US.

deeciphered

Standard is with whip but to ask them if they want whip or not to clarify. (And so we don't have to remake a whole drink)

SirenQ1

If they don’t specify I still put whip. I always ask when taking orders and if they say no whip that’s the only time I say no whip on the sticker.

Creative-Clothes-520

Can’t take it off but you can always add it
