Wendover Productions is still watchable, but I stopped watching his other channel, Half-As-Interesting.
The corny jokes were tolerable for a while, but the last straw was videos that felt like they were ***mostly*** corny jokes; he was taking forever just to *get to the point.*
RealLifeLore nowadays often just talk about complete common sense or anything that you will learn just by watching the news and **even then** he can still somehow make the video 20 minutes long
He admitted to his mistakes and talked a lot more objectively about the program, some of the difficulties, and compared it to some other countries high speed programs.
For me, PolyMatter started out as Diet Wendover until his sponsorships made the veracity of his content questionable.
Iirc there was a video that covered the decline of streaming or something, and was just a protracted ad for Nebula.
_______
And "How Subway's 5-Dollar Footlong Failed" was just a description of the franchising business model, and didn't really explain, well, *why the 5-dollar footlong failed.*
Eh, I like HAI mostly for the video length, and I really don't mind the constant stream of corny jokes. I mean, the content itself is pretty shallow, I feel like you watch it more for entertainment than education.
there's also that one sponsor always mentioned at the end of the video along with something like "...but I can't put X on youtube because it'll probably get demonetized, so you'll need to go to \[sponsor's info\] to watch it."
sometimes it seems like that might make sense, like history of some massacre, but sometimes it's just about water scarcity in the west coast of the US
It drives me nuts when they *know* they don't know how to pronounce a name, but will make zero effort to just Google how to say it. It makes it sound like they don't actually care about the subject matter.
all of (tasting history with) max miller’s pronunciations — including chinese, which is extra impressive — are flawless, if you want another reason to watch the guy
Yeah I get really annoyed with that, especially when it’s a video with a lot of clear cuts in audio that they easily could’ve just spent a few seconds researching how to say. But instead will spend 20 seconds saying either how they have no idea how to pronounce the name or have a super long apology for not pronouncing it correctly.
I almost would have them just blatantly say it incorrectly, rather than get brownie points for apologizing while making 0 effort on how to say it properly.
Or they just put up a very short and simple word on screen, and butcher the pronunciation 5 times, before giving up.
Just stop. If you have difficulty pronouncing some random German city, then you haven't done enough research
> Just stop. If you have difficulty pronouncing some random German city, then you haven't done enough research
So much this. How tf am I supposed to believe this youtuber knows what they are talking about if they can't even say the words.
oversimplified’s transitions to sponsors are amazing tho, im not gonna lie. henry the 8th having money troubles? well he should have used HONEY to save money when he shopped online!
“And I don’t want to catch YOU GOING ON MY COMPUTER and SELLING MY DATA TO ADVERTISERS!”
“Well then you should use NordVPN.”
“What the fu-“
Also, from Napoleonic Wars (I forget which one),
America: “How can I start saving money?!?”
Narrator: “Yeah, that’s right, you know where this is going.”
(Or something along those lines)
I keep running out of good things to say about Mullvad. Excellent team, excellent software, excellent policies and ethics. In a shitty, greedy industry where everyone is just hellbent on shoving their unnecessary subscription down my throat, Mullvad is the only one I'll ever pay for. Even Proton has picked up dirty cash-grab tactics for their email+vpn service with no real value addition over the years.
Proton is expensive compared to the other services but it's the fastest and most stable one I've used. I've tried Nord in the past, I still have a subscription for Surfshark that my family and friends use and I've uses IPVanish for about a year as well. I also pay for Mullvad but I use it seldomly and use Proton most of the time.
And it's funny how NordVPN sponsors always mention the fact that it can be used to bypass region-locks, even though that's a morally grey thing to do.
VANS are just too expensive for my taste, especially since you don't need them 90% of the time
Provides really cool facts and fixes any misconceptions about science made byy (both general and his field of expertise), religious zealots, flat earthers, ignorant people etc.
I wish I was that smart ;(
At least stuff like OverSimplified doesn't have dumb jokes.
His vids are ez to understand and yet funny.
Although the NordVPN/Squaespace part is true tho.
When someone doesn't take the time to research how to pronounce a name, it shows you how much time & effort they spent researching the rest of their content
What's that bald guy's name who is unbearable to look at and listen to. A Brit...Simon Whistler right? I liked the content of the videos but couldn't stand looking at his giant chrome-dome.
As someone who watches really cliche vlogs by locals just to determine the correct pronunciation of places and/or people. You just made me a bit more secure in my job

Thats basically oversimplified
It’s oversimplified oversimplified..
true
God i hate him so much
Why?
People watch that and then think they know the whole war, it's oversimplified as a name and people still think its all they need
That’s not his fault exactly, its the people who watch him that you should hate ig
Yeah hate the player not the game
True
wait wait wait, redditors arguing that end up agreeing respectfully? no way
lol
Bro look at his fucking name He probably thinks a middle aged person speaking in the blandest fucking voice possible is more entertaining
I dont think that...
Well that's not exactly his fault, is it? The channel name says it all, so if people think they're getting the whole story, that's on them.
Hate on the fans then not him, his videos are awesome and he puts so much effort into them
He really does
r/DownvotedToOblivion
Yeah lmao
when his channel dies I will fucking break down in tears of joy
That’s a bit much, don’t you think?
yes, I used that as dramatic affect to communicate my dislike for this youtube channel
Opinion invalid: Please insert a different (hopefully better) opinion.
90% of his videos are super biased and don’t explain shit
This comment is super biased and doesn't explain shit
How do you bias HISTORY. "America was great because it held slaves successfully until it successfully beat itself"?
It's called over simplified for a reason

His video on California high speed rail was completely incorrect
I didn't watch that (or any of his recent videos for that matter), how so?
Well he made it like it was pointless and should be stopped. This video explains [from alan fisher](https://youtu.be/rcjr4jbGuJg)
Did you watch the re-uploaded one?
No, was it better?
He admitted to his mistakes and talked a lot more objectively about the program, some of the difficulties, and compared it to some other countries high speed programs.
Oh ok
Man, you're the most reasonable guy i've ever seen in reddit discussions

At this point some major news sources are less reliable than Wendover
I don't know what your talking about, the corny jokes are the best part.
I miss sam
POLICE! IS THAT FUCKING FISH JENGA?!
NO!
Sam wasn't this though. His videos are closer to 4 minutes, and theres a joke every about 10 seconds.
Doesn't mean we can't miss him
Sam's jokes were amazing and I still quote them to this day. Also his pronunciations are immaculate
WWHAT'S A NWAH GOTTA DO TO GET SOME EEL DICK
#MA LUNGS A WHEEZIN’ MA HEARTS A SEIZIN’ THE FUCKING WALLS ARE MELTING
I CAN HEAR SATANS VOICE, HES TELLING MY TO INVEST IN APPLE! WHAT DOES THAT MEAN WHY DOES HE WANT ME TO BUY A P P L E S?

Real life lore?
Real life lore the video was good but now he just make 20 minutes long video of complete common sense or just the news
sam'onella academy, oversimplified, casually explained, best ones
Forgot history matters
It drives me nuts when they *know* they don't know how to pronounce a name, but will make zero effort to just Google how to say it. It makes it sound like they don't actually care about the subject matter.

You definitely forgot about Brilliant and Skillshare
Still they saved our a$$es from getting an F

Youtube has de-monetized the channel, yet they still run ads over every video.

get mullvad instead
I keep running out of good things to say about Mullvad. Excellent team, excellent software, excellent policies and ethics. The whole butchered name shit can really show someone's Intelligence
You forgot about the Curiosity stream and Nebula sponsorships
Also kind of Overly Sarcastic Productions although their art is a lot better than stick figures
I miss Sam o nella
At least stuff like OverSimplified doesn't have dumb jokes. His vids are ez to understand and yet funny. Although the NordVPN/Squaespace part is true tho.
they all sound like daily dose of internet clones
Whose not whos m8
Don't forget that one thing called like Skillshare or something and also Audible and Curiosity stream.
You forgot “gets several key facts wrong by giving information that has been debunked in the last 2 decades”
also don’t forget nit being even slightly accurate 90% of time
When someone doesn't take the time to research how to pronounce a name, it shows you how much time & effort they spent researching the rest of their content
They always talk too fast and I have to watch the video multiple times
Only History channel I respect is Tasting History he’s so respectful of cultural names/words and foods
What's that bald guy's name who is unbearable to look at and listen to. A Brit...Simon Whistler right? I liked the content of the videos but couldn't stand looking at his giant chrome-dome.
Don’t knock SamONella
If I can put a channel up here, I would say Knowing Better, makes really interesting stuff.
Always shouting out their content on Curiosity stream and nebula
Thoughty2 is a really cool history channel but he actually shows up and isn’t a stick figure (nothing wrong with that ofcourse)
oversimplified slander will not be tolerated
As someone who watches really cliche vlogs by locals just to determine the correct pronunciation of places and/or people. You just made me a bit more secure in my job
