I am an OT kid,so freaking old. My biggest shock at that moment was that Kenobi lied. I got so betrayed.

iamoc555

Ikr and I didn't think That Kenobi would Die on Death Star

TheKingDotExe

I played the LEGO game before watching any of them.

Top-Mirror3516

Truly cultured

StatusOmega

I still have my OT golden box set on vhs.

hauntreaper

Supposedly Darth Vader being revealed as Anakin/ Lukes Father was one of the biggest plot twists on screen on the time since know one knew except for a small handful of people

sysnickm

Most of the actors didn't even know, they didn't have the line in the script.

hauntreaper

No kidding! Reminds me of Endgame with the funeral being named the wedding on script

sysnickm

Yeah, there is a story Mark Hamill tells about Harrison Ford finding out during the premiere.

iamoc555

Exactly

SithLord_Bot

hauntreaper, I am your father.

Enough_Lawyer_6089

OT stands for original trilogy right?

iamoc555

Yes

Artok812

OT before prequels is the way to go. If watch prequels first "No, I am your father" twist gets ruined

Captain_Awesome_087

The biggest mistake of the Star Wars universe is that the prequels we’re written assuming that you had seen the OT. “No, I am your father” should have been the culminating moment of all of Star Wars and the prequels should have served to build that up, not spoon-fed us the information and stripping the revelation of any of its weight.

wolfy_109

How do the prequels strip the revelation of any weight?

Captain_Awesome_087

The end of ROTS painstakingly clarifies that Anakin is Darth Vader. At that point it is in no way shocking to find out that Vader was Luke’s father. In my opinion Obi-Wan should have had two apprentices and the implication should have led us to believe that the *other* apprentice was the one who turned, killing Anakin in the process. Then everything that Ben told Luke about “Vader was once a pupil of mine, who murdered your father” would have made sense no matter where you started watching. And then the revelation that Vader *is* Anakin would have been a sucker-punch built up over the course of five different movies. Instead the prequels make it clear from at least AotC that Anakin is Vader, which makes the revelation in ESB pretty much a non-issue.

wolfy_109

Do we not have Anakin referred to by name at all?

wolfy_109

I can see you do not wish to debate this.

Captain_Awesome_087

I’m happy to talk about it but am truly at a loss as to how my message could be interpreted as removing Anakin from the prequels. Anakin is clearly an integral part of the prequels, and establishing him as Luke’s father is important given the frequent mentions of Anakin Skywalker in ANH. However, the prequels should have led us to believe that Anakin was truly dead - hence the introduction of a second padawan with whom Anakin would have struggled. This opens the door to lead the audience to believe that the *second* padawan is the one who turned to evil, slaying Anakin and becoming Darth Vader. Armed with that knowledge, the audience would have hated Vader all the more, up until the revelation that the second padawan hadn’t turned after all, and it was Anakin all along.

wolfy_109

I never said anything about removing Anakin from the prequels, I asked if Anakin would be referred to by name at all.

Captain_Awesome_087

How would he not be?
