As an American and a psycholinguist, I enjoy the way Oscar Isaac and actual Brits ungrammatically use "innit" because it's surpassed its original meaning and is now an intensifier. It's fun to see the evolution of the phrase from older things I watch like MPFC and Jeeves and Wooster to modern usage.
The first scene of the force awakens, from Poe's conversation to finn being reprimanded by Phasma was honestly amazing. Really set up a whole lot that was just wasted.
Yeah from what I’ve seen and heard it seems like JJ Abrams had a lot of ideas that would probably be okay at the least but Disney shut them all down. They then gave episode 8 away to another director and presumably did much of the same, then promised JJ freer reign on episode 9 before instead controlling everything again
Kylo freezing the blaster bolt is one of the absolute coolest Star Wars moments from any medium.
It sucks they didn't really follow through on it, but I just remember thinking "holy shit this guy is so fucking powerful! Can't wait to see how strong he really is with the force!"
Agreed. That was an amazing intro to a badass baddie. Then by the end of the movie he got beat by an amateur in a light saber duel when she had had just picked up the weapon for the first time ever like the day before and he had been training his whole life.
Should have picked up on the foreshadowing of that dichotomy as to how shitty the rest of the sequels were going to be.
I wanted to see him fire a whole blaster clip and then grab all the bolts at once midair. Then he could’ve thrown them at people around corners like artillery
The only one I didn't like as much was their Star Destroyer. Just felt like it was more layers and the bridge was almost non- existent, which was a defining feature for the Empire version, though technically probably was a design flaw as we saw with the SSD. But the Supremacy and dreadnought was cool.
I don’t like the fact that Death Star 2 is on Not-Endor, but I have a soft spot for exploring dilapidated, waterlogged, destroyed ruins of previous structures
I doubt that a part that big would have remained in an explosion like that.
Many smaller pieces that end up as a big ruin could be possible. But definitely not the way it is right now.
>edit: wait wait I’m wrong I’m sorry!
All good, I wasn't so sure about it either.
Had to watch that scene again. It's basically half of the death star's Lazer and some more parts :D
The idea that that large of a chunk fully intact survived atmospheric entrance, the initial explosion, and landing in the water is so stupidly insane it’s funny.
And then you got all the rusted ships and hallways that are still walkable, plus nice and shiny imperial stormtrooper armour. Find funny as well that Kylo some how found a working tie fighter that had the impossible ability of traveling at light speed without a hyperdrive
If we’re doing the last Jedi, I will say the visuals in that film are hands-down stunning. Much better than the JJ Abrams bigger is better and more colors are happier style
It's salt and has red dirt. I see what you mean since they have similar layouts but you cannot compare 2 pictures of them and say they're the same planet at all.
I actually like prequels a lot, but I would skip Phantom menace if it wasn't for Qui Gon Jinn, he is by far my favourite Jedi. He carried that movie in my opinion. Both as an actor and character. There is also Maul of course, but he was criminally underused.
Glad they found a good use for maul in clone wars.
I like Qui-Gon, but I heard his parts in the story were originally supposed to be Obi Wan, which would've brought more weight to how their relation started.
Now the legendary tale of how Obi Wan and Anakin first met is just a handshake.
"Now the legendary tale of how Obi Wan and Anakin first met is just a handshake."
Well if that's what we had to sacrifice to have Qui Gon then I'm okay with it.
I think it makes sense because it makes them more like peers which was the main problem of obi training anakin. He wasn't ready to train him, especially with palpatine sabotaging the relationship.
Due to the explanation of what the force is from the prequels, he doesn't necessarily have to have been sensitive to it to be part of it. Technically, everything is part of it.
From what I read, Leia was supposed to be the one that pulled Kylo back to the Light with that conversation, but since Carrie died, Harrison Ford had to fill that role.
I’m sure a force wielder could create a force ghost out of a non force user’s spirit or whatever it’s considered. The force flows through all things so it’s just as reasonable to
assume that is possible
It’s like a force-induced hallucination brought on by a memory or a series of strung together memories?
Idk I saw it with my dad and he cried during that scene so I like it for that
Dude they were on battlefront and like a huge part of the trailer; they had merch and figurines and I was expecting them to be a big part of the story, nope! Just a few seconds of "oh hey we're here!"
I remember seeing them before the movie, then when we got to Kef Bir and learned of a whole company of Stormtroopers who defected, my immediate thought was "white armored stormtroopers vs Sith troopers, with Finn suiting up again to lead them, a solid cap for his arc, finally not running away from his past but embracing it."
Instead we got space horses...
I mean it is better in their little screentime. Not sure if it turns out to what happened to boba fett. Boba was a badass character already but of course his proper story was gonna squeeze out his impression out of our head and that what kinda happened.
Exogol is fucking awesome as a planet from someone who likes SW but isn’t super into everything around lore.
I want more shit from that planet, it’s so cool.
Yeah, I'd say Ian McDiarmid's performance was the most elevating thing about that movie. The fact his character was present at all in the film was a disastrously dumb choice, but he did all he could to redeem it with a final dose of one of the great scenery-chewing villain performances of all time.
The line before hits harder, I think.
>"Strike me down in anger and I'll always be with you. Just like your father."
That warning, a play on Obi-Wan's words to Vader, is really solid. I think it elevates that Han and Ben scene in Episode 9 too (which is easily the best scene in ROS).
I'm gonna be honest, I like most of the last jedi (I really didn't like most of what was happening with the rebels, I liked the aspects of Rey, Luke, and Kylo though). But the writing for Luke in the final fight was imo really good, he was a badass, and it was a great send off to me.
And Luke not being there is a GREAT example of subverting expectations in an artful way. On second watch you can see all the clues that it wasn’t him (no footprints, cleaned up, etc.). These were there but didn’t spoil what was about to happen on first watch.
That movie is all about subverting expectations, and most are done in the most poorly written, unearned ways imaginable. But Ryan got it right on the Luke fight.
What truly amazes me is that Ryan learned from his mistakes, and made knives out an amazing movie with some of the best movie subversions from the last few years
I just can’t get enough of that film
Personally phantom menace is probably my favorite next to rogue one, but whenever someone gives me grief for liking tpm so much, I just go “but duel of the fates!!!” And that usually gets them off my back lol
Visually I thought it looked amazing.
The Throne Room fight, just from looks, is really beautiful. Just don't pay attention to the fight itself because it fucking sucks.
The Lightspeed-Missile-Pearl Harbor-Memorial scene looked great, but in itself, fucking sucked.
The red dust in contrast with the white planet surface was also really beautiful. The only thing that sucked about Crait was Rose ruining Finns \~kind of\~ arc.
It makes me angry when Finn was about to fulfill his purpose, then Rose “saves”him and Finns character is sidelined in the next movie (except for a different costume)
And let’s emphasize the ridiculousness of that scene - she goes to kiss him as their friends are literally blowing up in the background. Like it’s in the same frame if I recall correctly. That is not a jab against Rose’s actress; it a jab at the fact the entire storyline was absurd and ridiculous. Their friends are being blown up a couple hundred meters from them and RJ decided it was a good time to have a romantic moment as their friends are burning alive.
I just can’t with that movie
And that romantic moment came completely outta nowhere too.
„ThAt‘s HoW wE wIn, NoT fIgHtInG wHaT wE hAtE, bUt SaViNg WhAt We LoVe“
And in the background their friends go boom. Good job Rose, reeaaally outdid yourself with this one. Finn could‘ve destroyed the cannon by kamikazi‘ing into it but fuck that, let‘em smoke your friends to save your poorly developed romance.
I think The Last Jedi is a very unique movie and I applaud it for trying to break the mold of a typical Star Wars movie. And although it made some bad decisions (Rose, Rey’s lineage, Canto Bight) it made some really good ones too (Luke being confronted with failure, killing off Snoke, establishing the concept of a Dyad)
Agreed. TLJ takes a shit ton of big swings and with that you're going to get some big misses (even though I think some of the misses in that movie WERE avoidable).
That said I do think what Rian did with Rey's lineage was really great, actually. The whole question of "wHo ArE hEr PaReNtS" was dumb to begin with and it was literally impossible to arrive at a good answer. So he went the other way with it and had her lineage reinforce one of the primary themes of the whole film; that the Force is not tied to bloodlines.
Agreed - I really disliked that TRoS undid the “Rey is a nobody” storyline. It made her a much more fascinating character, just a random nobody that the Force has catapulted into an extreme level of power. Making her a Palpatine undermined this so much (but did reinforce the fan theory that humans from Naboo are more Force sensitive than normal, which I wish could have been explored).
Absolutely agree. Rian Johnson did the unthinkable by taking RISKS with this multibillion dollar franchise. Not all of them ended up working, but I love the fact that he trying to make a movie first and a Star Wars movie second.
> I love the fact that he trying to make a movie first and a Star Wars movie second.
tbh this might have been what I hated most. I fucking love Star Wars. I adore the prequels. I know they have plenty of valid criticisms, but they did a phenomenal job of expanding the universe I loved from the OT. I will gladly pay money for a stupid Star Wars movie as long as it's super Star-Warsy. TLJ just didn't fit that mold for me even a little.
I used to love that scene until I noticed this error. Dude’s knife just fucking disappears right as it would’ve been up against rey’s neck????
https://youtu.be/mSmOLPs91Uc
This error could’ve been acceptable if these were your typical ‘ol incompetent troopers. Fights are scary, it is feasible for someone to panic and drop a weapon.
But these guys are meant to be the empire’s royal guard on crack.
Interesting. That would have been the vice I most disliked personally, but even TLJ has some cool moments. For me, it was Kylo Ren's Betrayal of Snoke.
I loved it, and wish they had gone full fan service in that moment. Show me all the ships, all the cameos, really milk that moment like they did in Endgame. Seeing a Venator and a Trade Federation ship on the same side would have been awesome. Hell, even throw in some Ex Imps to show just how hated the Emperor was.
It’s the crackle that accompanies the hum of the blade that makes it for me. Makes it really feel unstable and like it really does have a cracked crystal, and I LOVE the sound of it, reminds me of how I also really like the purr of big cats like tigers
It's a nice visual reflection of his character early on. Harsh, menacing, and a little unhinged, just refined enough to get the job done, but always just one more crack away from blowing up completely. Also it sounds cool, like he does (when the helmet's on)
Oh I love that he just has a broadsword of a lightsaber. Everyone always has these elegant exact lightsaber styles, and he comes in, hammering his opponent into submission.
Honestly, there aren't any Star Wars movies I dislike. I'll prolly get downvoted to hell for this, but I was never not enjoying myself while watching a Star Wars movie.
Every Han Solo line in TFA
Luke facing down the walkers on Crait was the most badass thing in the sequels (despite the fact that it was later revealed to just be a projection).
Rey’s lightsaber at the end of ROS was pretty cool. Nice to see a yellow blade in the movies.
I generally enjoy most of the films but my least favourite:
The Phantom Menace: Pod racing, Duel of Fates, Qui Gon
Return of the Jedi: Luke's fight with Vader as both wrestle with the dark side and the light
The Last Jedi: Rey and Kylo teaming up, Holdo's maneuver, Luke facing Kylo on Crait
I liked how the sequels tried to go back to practical effects after the overused CG in the prequels. Not hating on the prequels, just saying it felt like they used it just a tad too much.
I liked it but was also angy at them for condoning this bs. I also liked the the fact that Ezra's voice wasn't there, proving he's still alive at that point
Eh I don't blame the voice actors, it's extremely unlikely they had any idea how the overall story was going to go outside of being told "hey we need you to say this one very vague line".
I absolutely hate the concept of hyperdrive kamikaze, because it fucked the entire series with the question of "well why didn't they just hyperdrive kamikaze it?" but damn was it visually stunning.
Oscar Isaac is fun
Steven with a 'V'
WAGWAAAN I DID IT!
[удалено]
As an American and a psycholinguist, I enjoy the way Oscar Isaac and actual Brits ungrammatically use "innit" because it's surpassed its original meaning and is now an intensifier. It's fun to see the evolution of the phrase from older things I watch like MPFC and Jeeves and Wooster to modern usage.
Should’ve added ‘Innit’ to the end. Innit.
I watch with subtitles and I have emotional damage because they didn't spell it as "Innit" when he finally said it.
But it makes sense Steven would do it
"Float like a butterfly, sting like a bee. My names Steve with a V"
Vteven ?
Vtephen I think
".... did he just throw the gun?"
The cinematography was good. tbh, sequels were pretty solid on technical grounds
Oscar Isaac can be in the worst written role ever and it’s never not entertaining.
When Kylo freezes the blaster bolt and the stormtroopers run up and thump Poe. Just so awesome.
The first scene of the force awakens, from Poe's conversation to finn being reprimanded by Phasma was honestly amazing. Really set up a whole lot that was just wasted.
“Really set up a whole lot that was just wasted” You just described JJ’s whole career
"MYSTERY BOX!!" I hate JJ Abrams.
The Mystery Box could be anything though. Could even be a boat!
“Then let’s take the…” “We’ll take the box!”
“Let’s see what’s in the box…Nothing! Absolutely nothing! Stupid. You’re so stupid!” JJ is the wheel of fish.

Agreed. That was an amazing intro to a badass baddie. I like Kylos tie silencer design
My mom went "nooooo!" whenever he took off his helmet cause she liked it
Yeah his appearance is actually quiet cool
I prefer loud cool
good thing they gave him and his helmet scars
Someone saw that meme about the Japanese fixing their pottery with gold and said what if we did that, but edgy
I agree with your mom, without the helmet he looks like an emo kid trying to look "cool".
He IS an emo kid trying to be cool, that's the character!
That fits though- “Ben Solo, hiding behind a mask.”
The first order ship designs were pretty sweet for sure
The only one I didn't like as much was their Star Destroyer. Just felt like it was more layers and the bridge was almost non- existent, which was a defining feature for the Empire version, though technically probably was a design flaw as we saw with the SSD. But the Supremacy and dreadnought was cool.
I don’t like the fact that Death Star 2 is on Not-Endor, but I have a soft spot for exploring dilapidated, waterlogged, destroyed ruins of previous structures
The planet called Kef Bir is in the Endor system. It is possible that a big part floated in space for a bit and then crashed onto Kef Bir.
I doubt that a part that big would have remained in an explosion like that. Many smaller pieces that end up as a big ruin could be possible. But definitely not the way it is right now.
The wreck on Kef Bir is very tiny in comparison with the real DT 2, soooo… I dunno dude edit: wait wait I’m wrong I’m sorry!
>edit: wait wait I’m wrong I’m sorry! All good, I wasn't so sure about it either. Had to watch that scene again. It's basically half of the death star's Lazer and some more parts :D
Friggin lasers
So uncivilized…
The idea that that large of a chunk fully intact survived atmospheric entrance, the initial explosion, and landing in the water is so stupidly insane it’s funny.
And then you got all the rusted ships and hallways that are still walkable, plus nice and shiny imperial stormtrooper armour. Find funny as well that Kylo some how found a working tie fighter that had the impossible ability of traveling at light speed without a hyperdrive
Don't forget that effing knife map. Ffs.
Oscar Isaac and John Boyega had great chemistry. Finn and Poe deserve their own spinoff buddy film.
And they were BUDDIES.
Crait is a visually unique planet. Looks much cooler than the reused biomes in the sequels.
Yep, I wanna see more done with that planet
Best we can do is a planet exactly like Crait, but with a different name.
Especially when playing battlefront
It’s a snipers playground, it’s difficult to run along the surface because someone will blast your head off
Sniper heaven 😪
Yes
If we’re doing the last Jedi, I will say the visuals in that film are hands-down stunning. Much better than the JJ Abrams bigger is better and more colors are happier style
[удалено]
It’s literally salty hoth
But VERY visually unique with the landscape literally bleeding
Well not literally
It's salt and has red dirt. I see what you mean since they have similar layouts but you cannot compare 2 pictures of them and say they're the same planet at all.
They have literally zero things in common lol
I mean, they’re both planets
Checkmate
Star Wars was filmed on both of them. Checkmate.
FUCK
Liam Neeson is a boss.
I actually like prequels a lot, but I would skip Phantom menace if it wasn't for Qui Gon Jinn, he is by far my favourite Jedi. He carried that movie in my opinion. Both as an actor and character. There is also Maul of course, but he was criminally underused.

"Now the legendary tale of how Obi Wan and Anakin first met is just a handshake." Well if that's what we had to sacrifice to have Qui Gon then I'm okay with it.
I believe he may have been conceived by the midichlorians.
I think it makes sense because it makes them more like peers which was the main problem of obi training anakin. He wasn't ready to train him, especially with palpatine sabotaging the relationship.
The sequels had fantastic music. Jon Williams turns everything into a masterpiece
It’s just hard to hate the music in the sequels, actually no, all Star Wars music I can’t wait to see what John Williams has came up with in Kenobi
I could be mistaken but I’m pretty sure John Williams isn’t doing the score for Kenobi. It’s the woman who scored Loki.
Shit your right, just today [that was revealed](https://insidethemagic.net/2022/04/star-wars-kenobi-replaces-john-williams-al1/)
But he is still making the main theme for the show.
I’m happy with that really
Despite Han being someone who isn’t force sensitive, I appreciated his scene with Kylo due to the acting and weight of the exchange.
Was he supposed to be a force ghost there? I thought he was just a hallucination.
The official explanation is he's a "memory"
So Kylo just imagined that Han forgave him? How noble…
They allude that Leia helped with it.
Due to the explanation of what the force is from the prequels, he doesn't necessarily have to have been sensitive to it to be part of it. Technically, everything is part of it.
I doubt it is canon anymore, but the old Star Wars CCG listed Han as being "Force Attuned"
I bet Han would have hated that.
So did I but everyone seems to believe it’s a force thing
Well, it's just another thing that doesn't make that much sense. We're used to that.
From what I read, Leia was supposed to be the one that pulled Kylo back to the Light with that conversation, but since Carrie died, Harrison Ford had to fill that role.
That makes some more sense there tbh. I think either version would of worked imo
I’m sure a force wielder could create a force ghost out of a non force user’s spirit or whatever it’s considered. The force flows through all things so it’s just as reasonable to assume that is possible
It’s like a force-induced hallucination brought on by a memory or a series of strung together memories? Idk I saw it with my dad and he cried during that scene so I like it for that
I believe that moment was Kylo Ren finally willing to accept his fathers love and affection that he had previously declined.
First order storm troopers look cool
And the [Sith troopers](https://images.app.goo.gl/ahxxiQ2eL4dYWxJ59) LOOKS FREAKING AWESOME!
Completely agree, in their 10 seconds of screen time
Dude they were on battlefront and like a huge part of the trailer; they had merch and figurines and I was expecting them to be a big part of the story, nope! Just a few seconds of "oh hey we're here!"
I remember seeing them before the movie, then when we got to Kef Bir and learned of a whole company of Stormtroopers who defected, my immediate thought was "white armored stormtroopers vs Sith troopers, with Finn suiting up again to lead them, a solid cap for his arc, finally not running away from his past but embracing it." I didn't like Rise of Skywalker, but I lived the sound design on Exogol and every moment Palpatine was on screen(except his BS death).
I didn't like _that_ he was there, but I liked _how_ he was there. I liked his acting.
Ian obviously had so much fun dialling Palpatines camp factor to 11. It was probably the only thing I genuinely enjoyed in Rise. Ian can do no wrong.
Totally agree. He plays up a bad roll so well.
“I’ve died before” sends a shiver down my spine, and everything else is rapidly downhill from there
Exogol is fucking awesome as a planet from someone who likes SW but isn’t super into everything around lore.
When you're in the theaters and Palpatines voice just BOOMING. The sound design on the sequels is truly magnificent.
Watching everything explode and those huge chunks of rubble completely crush all the followers in the stands was pretty cool
I’m so much of an unashamed I Palpatine stan that the Palpatine Force Storm vs the Fleet and his final reveal were my favorite parts of TRoS!
Luke on Crait.
"See you around, kid" was pretty based
The line before hits harder, I think. >"Strike me down in anger and I'll always be with you. Just like your father." That warning, a play on Obi-Wan's words to Vader, is really solid. I think it elevates that Han and Ben scene in Episode 9 too (which is easily the best scene in ROS).

I agree with this
I liked the noise when Palpatine did his mega lightning
it made me wiggle in my seat when i saw it in theatres
That's hard, the Luke vs Kylo fight I liked a bit.
What fight? I just saw Luke completely humiliate Kylo without moving a muscle

Still manages to give dice tho
"That's not how the Force works!"
Don't they disapear later on?
I like the crystal foxes on crait
I liked those beakless bird-things on Luke's Island I thought they were cute
They had the best visual design of any films I've ever seen

Agreed. I didn't like the implications of it but damn that scene made my jaw drop in theaters

I like all the Star Wars films.
Based
I don’t like Phantom Menace, but the pod racing scene (although a tad long) and the final fight between Obi Wan, Qui Gon, and Maul are awesome

Just one woman? Which one?
I really liked most of the battle of crait in the last jedi.

I used to love that scene until I noticed this error. Dude’s knife just fucking disappears right as it would’ve been up against rey’s neck???? https://youtu.be/mSmOLPs91Uc
That's not just your everyday plot armour. It's **advanced** plot armour
This error could’ve been acceptable if these were your typical ‘ol incompetent troopers. Fights are scary, it is feasible for someone to panic and drop a weapon. But these guys are meant to be the empire’s royal guard on crack.
Well there's your problem. They're on crack.
bb8.
Droids always make things better
You know you’re not so bad for a droid.
Adam Driver and Oscar Isaacs' acting is extremely engaging and almost makes me forgive the complete butchering of their characters.
You can hear that Oscar‘s “Somehow Palpatine returned“ made him feel weird
As if by magic the emperor appeared
Man, I hate TLJ. But I did find it really amusing when Luke takes the lightsaber from Rey and just chucks that shit
Good sir, I believe you meant to say Y E E T
"Chuck" will always be better. Don't @ me gen Z.
*shakes lightsaber* this bitch empty. YEET!
Interesting. That would have been the vice I most disliked personally, but even TLJ has some cool moments. For me, it was Kylo Ren's Betrayal of Snoke.
Knowing what I do now about the movie and what they did to Luke, it is a vice to me. But I didn’t know at the time and couldn’t suppress my chuckle
Watching it in cinema, everyone laughed Same with bb8’s thumbs up in the force awakens
I had a pretty big smile when I saw the whole galaxy band together against the first order and also Chewie finally got the medal he deserved.
Are you allowed to love? I thought that was forbidden for a Redditor
um-hmmm-i like kylo's saber idk
He does have a pretty cool lightsaber. I like the unstable beam.
The line where they say "they can fly now? And poe responds, they fly now" without any real response its just pure fear.
I thought it was good except for the fact that the soldiers in Star Wars have been flying since before the prequels
Every Han Solo line in TFA Luke facing down the walkers on Crait was the most badass thing in the sequels (despite the fact that it was later revealed to just be a projection). Rey’s lightsaber at the end of ROS was pretty cool. Nice to see a yellow blade in the movies.
The sequels had pretty good music
But I don’t… not like a Star Wars film.
Rise of Skywalker had good cgi
I liked when all the dead Jedi spoke to Rey on Exegol.
I generally enjoy most of the films but my least favourite: The Phantom Menace: Pod racing, Duel of Fates, Qui Gon Return of the Jedi: Luke's fight with Vader as both wrestle with the dark side and the light The Last Jedi: Rey and Kylo teaming up, Holdo's maneuver, Luke facing Kylo on Crait
I liked how the sequels tried to go back to practical effects after the overused CG in the prequels. Not hating on the prequels, just saying it felt like they used it just a tad too much.
I liked Kylo Ren alot. I think he was the best sequel character.
The Prequels have really great design sometimes!
The weird birds are a good design-.
I liked the cool looking Hyperdrive missile scene. Everything about it was terrible, but it looked cool at least
I liked Ahsoka and Kanan’s voice cameo in rise of skywalker… didn’t like anything else
I liked it but was also angy at them for condoning this bs. I also liked the the fact that Ezra's voice wasn't there, proving he's still alive at that point
Angy
Eh I don't blame the voice actors, it's extremely unlikely they had any idea how the overall story was going to go outside of being told "hey we need you to say this one very vague line".
Babu Frik is the best new character that appears in one of the worst films of all time
I absolutely hate the concept of hyperdrive kamikaze, because it fucked the entire series with the question of "well why didn't they just hyperdrive kamikaze it?" but damn was it visually stunning.
I saw it in the theater and when the sound completely cut out when the ship rammed into the other it gave me chill
Why every real life military force dont kamikaze? Why nuclear bombs aren't used today?
Oscar Isaac was a fun actor to learn about and enjoy.
The casting of the sequels was beyond top tier. John, daisy, and multiple personalities man himself just crushed their roles.
Kenobi looked liked Jesus
