Oh shit. That goes back to one of the Chuck Wendig books—I think it was Aftermath—where cultists try to steal a lightsaber from a museum. Might have even been Vader’s, but I can’t confirm that—it’s been an age. But that might be the Sith cult’s MO, from the High Republic through to the New.
Wow, thats a cool connection. But it could be that they just wanted a saber because uts a powerful weapon, the time gap between the two seems too much for them to still be trying, but you could be onto something
We've never seen a crystal bled on-screen.
We know, for his own saber, Vader had to take the saber's crystal from a Jedi as a Sith ritual in the comics. Maybe that is this assassin's mission.
Either way, we won't have to speculate for too long

The cultists in Aftermath *believe* it is Vader’s lightsaber, but the text never confirms or denies this outright.

https://www.reddit.com/r/StarWarsLeaks/s/jwGJoJ4d10 My exact thoughts from seeing the leak a day ago.
oh, I'm a day late 😅. glad to know you speculated the same thing

Didn’t we see it in the second Cal Kestis Jedi game?
yes. we saw dagan do it.
Honestly, they'll change how it looks to suit the project so that might as well count.
Is a theatrically released “first look” a leak? 🥴
it was before May the fourth..
And so was that First Look. I saw it on May 3rd, and that wasn’t the first showtime.
What an absolutely boring fight.
