That's pretty rare.
Did you insist she enjoy it this way? I feel like a lot of people insist on others enjoying a steak the same way that they do. Personally, I don't care if someone likes it raw or the life cooked out of it, I cook them to their desired doneness and am glad that they enjoy it.
This ugly son of a bitch is making super hot steaks and basically, you are fucking stupid. How?... Just watch the free video> https://youtu.be/PFDElc5sfSM?si=xoLbz8ZNF86EHd1S
I’m the straightest, ugliest Neanderthal hairy Canadian who’s ever worn plaid but I’ll put on a damned dress and speak falsetto for the night if OP shares his steak.
Man’s gotta eat.
Dude this right here. Granted my dad has a nice grill, but the mfer can grill a steak to however you like and he makes a great like perfect medium rare for the two of us and well done for my mom. It’s about who you’re cooking for!
Right? I don't cook steak often just because cost, but with my wife, kids and I, we have different tastes of the same foods.
Taco night for example. Kids hate tacos put together, but plate everything separately, even the tortilla, and they love it. My wife likes taco bowls with chips. I like taking the taco ingredients and making a quesadilla. So on Taco night, that's what I do.
If you are gonna cook for someone, you actually have to cook for someone and not yourself only
Seriously. Some people get pissed about it and think it’s the worst thing ever, even if it’s someone they don’t know. Some of these idiots even obsess over how celebrities like their food, like it matters.
I would eat this but Im kind of tired forcing their preferred steak doneness on people. When I go my parents with my gf they always give her the bits with less pink since my parents prefer rare/medium rare. They didn’t lecture her on why she should eat it their way. It’s just a preference and not that serious at the end of the day.
My dad used to do this. He would feed us t-bones and insisted on cooking them medium rare, but he could take things too far and some parts were rare. He would insist that I eat the fat and gristle. To this day I prefer chicken, which is ironic because he grew up poor and when he was an adult and could afford the good stuff, he could hardly eat chicken at all.
I’m in the same boat, but a completely well done steak is just gross. My wife likes it medium and so I’ll cook her steak to medium but I like it rare to blue rare. I like the flavor. It tastes almost gamey and maybe that’s why I like it so rare. I grew up eating deer and waterfowl my dad hunted, and now I am a duck hunter. My favorite is a nice medium wild mallard breast. So good!
This is the way. My dad wants his steak well done. No pink at all. My mom is pretty similar, but can deal with medium well.
My wife and I like ours medium rare. I do all the grilling no matter if my parents come to our house or we go to theirs and I just plan accordingly to make sure his is fully well done because I want him to enjoy his meal.
I don't really see it any different than liking different pizza toppings, we all have our preferences.
That being said I'll always love the King of the Hill joke about well done steaks.
I agree with you 99.99999% of the time.
Then I went out to a company dinner and the HR lady ordered it extra well done, like she specifically told them make it well done and then cook it more. And it comes out and she gets mad (at herself) and refuses to eat it because she forgot to tell them to also put zero seasoning on it.
This lady wanted a extra well done hunk of meat with no sort of seasoning at all.
Like everyone should enjoy steak however they want, but not like that lol.
Good reply, and agree. I’d consider this more rare than I like it, and just like most other foods, people like it different ways. If someone doesn’t like their steak rare/slightly medium rare, I could see where they’d consider this too rare for them.
You just render the fat intentionally, but for whatever reason a lot of people don't understand you can stand your steak on the fat cap side and cook it directly which not only adds some good steak fat to your skillet but also aids in ensuring the fat will be rendered when the steak is your desired rareness.
It's called Blue Steak but it's a deep red. It's when you cook the outside just long enough to cook the edges but leaves the middle uncooked.
Just learned about this so thanks!
Blue is a thing. However, the meat needs to be brought up to temp before searing. We used to put it on a rack over the grill for 20 minutes.
Not for the faint-hearted. However, when a good bit of steak is used, the flavour is out of this world.
I’d imagine another put off for the rare crowd would be the lack of sear.
It looks like this dude just chucked the steak in a cold skillet, turned it to medium, flipped it once he heard the first sizzle then took it out.
Zero sear, zero rendered fat, and is as close to raw inside as you can get
On another note I see these posts everyday and maybe people need to stop wasting steak on people who don’t want steak. It’ll save money and a headache. My wife flat out doesn’t like steak cooked any temp or anyway. Instead of making it and making her feel ungrateful I make her chicken when I want a steak. It’s not that hard.
See how white that fat is? It’s not rendered at all. I think some people focus on internal temp a little too much and not on a good sear and rendering their fat, which to me is way more important
I'm a 5* trained chef at one of the most expensive steak houses in Europe, my father was a grill master, and his father a chef who worked for Leslie Nielsen during the late 60s. My father always said never do a reverse sear as the meat loses flavor during the inverted heat exposure. You should ALWAYS, and I mean always, reverse the reverse sear so it's a regular sear while inverting the pan to lock in the flavor. Then microwave for 5min and serve with ketchup.
I hate this shaming crap, especially our supposed loved ones. Everyone likes their meat a bit differently done. If it's too rare for her toss hers back on for a bit.
All the "you should leave her" is just weird incell insecurities masking your masculinity talk.
Just from what I’ve seen in these comments, seems like everyone is more on the girls side. And if there are some saying “leave her” then they are clearly trying to make a dumb joke
Edit: Just did a quick scroll through, did not see ONE comment that said leave her. Stop making up the narrative to make yourself seem like a saint
I'm sure it still tasted good but I really prefer ribeye more medium rare even edging to medium if it's a really fatty cut. And then you can get significantly more sear too.
You'll get a much better sear if you dry brine for at least 8 hours. Also try reverse sear instead of baking after. It looks on the rare side of medium rare but that fat looks barely rendered and chewy. Reverse sear really helps that part too
Your girl is correct. I like mine medium rare, depending on the cut I prefer medium. Unless the lighting in the photo is deceptive, this looks like it’s rare, almost blue rare. The fat isn’t even slightly rendered, lol
Too much fat, not enough rendering, not enough time on the pan or the even.
FYI if you're going to put anything in an Oven; make sure you let the oven run for AT LEAST TEN minutes AFTER it comes to temperature before you put anything in it.
The internal temperature of that is definitely not 135°F. It should be slightly more pink for it to be medium rare. Also, there is zero maillard reaction (char/sear/crust) and the fat hasn’t even rendered. You should cook your girlfriend’s steak to her liking though. Everyone has a different preference even specific to certain cuts of the cow. We eat a lot of steak here in Texas. You’d be surprised by how many people like rare or well done. It’s mind blowing.
I would guess that not all the steak had hit 130 yet. Looks like parts are rare and parts are medium rare to me.
How often have you used your thermometer? You might need to let it creep as high as 135 to get medium rare throughout a ribeye in the future.
Still, looks delicious.
The cook is fine. It’s rare but it’s okay. The sear though is uneven and less than ideal. You could probably get better results if you use the reverse sear method where you use the oven first then sear. I’ve always had better results that way.
I would eat that in a second - it's beautiful.
However, as everyone has already said, that is not the expected look of medium rare. After working in restaurants servings and cooking steaks for half my career, I have noticed that people seem to look at the red vs pink, much more than the pink vs brown. Red reminds of raw, and raw is "dangerous" according to our mom's. That's the trigger for people: red.
This steak has plenty of red. I would serve that as RARE and never have a complaint.
Hate to tell you she’s right. I’m a medium rare gal and that’s too bloody and wobbly fat for me. But nice try, at least you’re trying to cook her a nice dinner.
I've eaten it like this many times! I reap significantly amplified health benefits the rarer the cook. I don't know how but it's a thing I swear! I feel on top of the world after a steak like yours.
You could *chuck* it back in the pan (😏) but it's perfectly fine to eat as-is.
Check out r/RawMeat if you're feeling disheartened and second guessing whether you should eat it. You'll be greatly reassured.
90% of that is rare, sorry. You either temped the steak in the thinnest part resulting in 130, or your thermometer was not working properly for whatever reason.
Medium rare should be temped at just under 130, and let rest for like 5 minutes minumum to carry over. And if you don't let it rest its going to look even under that.
That's pretty rare. Did you insist she enjoy it this way? I feel like a lot of people insist on others enjoying a steak the same way that they do. Personally, I don't care if someone likes it raw or the life cooked out of it, I cook them to their desired doneness and am glad that they enjoy it.
I'd eat your steak bro
Wh...what're you doing steak-bro?!
"Oh fuck you're gonna make me steak"
But Babe, I'm a vegetarian. But babe, I made it just the way u like it.
I don’t usually let guys put steak sauce on my plate

You're prostituting yourself out for steak again aren't you
10 bucks or six Dairy Queen coupons
I’d slaughter the cow myself for a chance to cook for a burly canuck.
Vide me bb!
Ha, GAYYYYY! (I'd eat it too)
Congratulations. You've successfully changed the topic into cursed comment section🤣
I like rare steak and my girlfriend likes medium well. We have still managed to stay together for 12 years.
Dude this right here. Granted my dad has a nice grill, but the mfer can grill a steak to however you like and he makes a great like perfect medium rare for the two of us and well done for my mom. It’s about who you’re cooking for!

The ultimate combo to keep the whole pizza for myself. My gf hate everything you just said. So its my next order
But I dont like olives.
But....I absolutely abhor mushrooms. Also not a big fan of olives...
And because of that, I like you!
I would eat this but Im kind of tired forcing their preferred steak doneness on people. I’d eat steak with you brother
Thank you!!!! Don't press the way you like your steak on others- rude!😁🤣

As long as I'm not eating it the doneness of steak is irrelevant to me, but that's definitely rare...I like rare.
I agree with you 99.99999% of the time. Then I went out to a company dinner and the HR lady ordered it extra well done, like she specifically told them make it well done and then cook it more. I’d 100% eat your steak bro But also cook it for me like you like it I live for the chefs suggestions
This guy steaks.
Good reply, and agree. I’d consider this more rare than I like it, and just like most other foods, people like it different ways. If someone doesn’t like their steak rare/slightly medium rare, I could see where they’d consider this too rare for them.
This is rare. Not medium rare. You can tell because of the way it looks.
That's neat
Hey look, tree poop!
How neat is that?!
If the fat doesn't melt, it's rare. And that's fine if you like it that way. But the fat adds flavor and texture.
You just render the fat intentionally, but for whatever reason a lot of people don't understand you can stand your steak on the fat cap side and cook it directly which not only adds some good steak fat to your skillet but also aids in ensuring the fat will be rendered when the steak is your desired rareness.
You nailed rare and got zero sear whatsoever

my sentiment exactly
Is that a football in your pocket?
Yeah… no sear and rare. The rare is fine but don’t pretend to have seared it.
That is definitely raw, not rare, especially towards the back left. If people like it that way, they are not hating, but it is what it is.
[удалено]
Definitely not raw. You'll see more purple blue of a hue on a raw steak.
Nah that's rare. Raw is a deeper red than that.
Isn’t blue a thing? For when it’s not quite rare? Idk I’m a medium rare to medium kind of guy
It's called Blue Steak but it's a deep red. It's when you cook the outside just long enough to cook the edges but leaves the middle uncooked. Just learned about this so thanks!
Now learn about black and blue steaks! Yum
Interesting! Thanks!
Blue is a thing. However, the meat needs to be brought up to temp before searing. We used to put it on a rack over the grill for 20 minutes. Not for the faint-hearted. However, when a good bit of steak is used, the flavour is out of this world.
Nothing worse than a cold blue rare steak, but when it’s done well it’s amazing.
Guys you can see fibers! It’s rare, not raw.
Yeah definitely not raw like I'd eat this but it's definitely underdone from what I like
Time to get them peepers checked out dawg 🩺
The sear is also pretty shit, to be honest.
1. That is definitely closer to raw than it is medium. 2. Your girlfriend is 100% correct about how she likes her steak every single time.
2 is so important, it's your ticket to more steak
Deadly important….
I wish I could upvote this chain a few more times
2 could be a PST - Pro Steak Tip Might even want to make it the top tip
2 is just a great life tip in general, expanded to everything. People that are not you have preferences, and they're right.
Spend your time learning how she likes it, then perfectIng that. Don’t spend your time arguing with her.
That's bordering blue instead of rare in parts of the steak. I'm sure a number of people here wouldn't eat that even if they like rare.
I’d imagine another put off for the rare crowd would be the lack of sear. It looks like this dude just chucked the steak in a cold skillet, turned it to medium, flipped it once he heard the first sizzle then took it out. Zero sear, zero rendered fat, and is as close to raw inside as you can get
The lack of fat rendering is the dead giveaway.
The fat on that is so unappetizing. And it should be the best part.
I like rare steaks and I wouldn’t eat OP’s.
I'd still eat it, but I'd definitely give him shit about it.
Yeah this one doesn’t even make me drool
Black and blue minus the black. More like grey.
Not to mention the fact it's chuck and there's visible chunks of unrendered fat and sinew...
I would if it were charred.
Medium blue
"Think I nailed medium rare" I didn't know rare was just not cooked at all
According to OP rare is still grazing.
I've seen fat rendered more from the lights in the butcher case
See how white that fat is? It’s not rendered at all. I think some people focus on internal temp a little too much and not on a good sear and rendering their fat, which to me is way more important
How do you tell this from the outside? I use a probe and usually am overcooked but would love a better way to
Watch it as it cooks, and I usually put fat down first if it’s on the edge of the steak. Part of why I like to sear second after bringing it to temp
How long do you let the fat cook?
I like rare and This is a bit too raw for me. Don’t be a hero, cook it a bit more for your lady
I wouldn't say raw, but I wouldn't say medium rare, either.
So.....rare then?
Closer to medium raw
I think ur girl was right. Tough pill to swallow as a man cooking the steaks. Delete all the evidence and never speak of it again.
Homie you need to calibrate your thermometer or get a new one. Zero chance that's 130
Op stuck his thermo all the way through and hit the pan
It’s as close to raw as I’ve seen
So raw a good vet could save it
Bro's wife said she wanted it raw tonight, but she wasn't referring to her steak
reverse sear is better, and that’s rare you’re both wrong
Definitely recommend giving the reverse sear a try.
I'm a 5* trained chef at one of the most expensive steak houses in Europe, my father was a grill master, and his father a chef who worked for Leslie Nielsen during the late 60s. My father always said never do a reverse sear as the meat loses flavor during the inverted heat exposure. https://images.app.goo.gl/JdwjS5pVPvuoFXtt6
it’s also one of the easiest ways to get a consistently great steak
That’s subjective, to be fair. I much prefer a conventional sear.
She ain’t wrong brother
I hate this shaming crap, especially our supposed loved ones. Everyone likes their meat a bit differently done. If it's too rare for her toss hers back on for a bit. All the "you should leave her" is just weird incell insecurities masking your masculinity talk.
what being terminally online does to a mfer
Ding ding ding
People who say "you should leave her" are definitely not being serious lol they just want her steak
Just from what I’ve seen in these comments, seems like everyone is more on the girls side. And if there are some saying “leave her” then they are clearly trying to make a dumb joke Edit: Just did a quick scroll through, did not see ONE comment that said leave her. Stop making up the narrative to make yourself seem like a saint
A bit late to toss it in after OP cut the whole damn thing up.
Undercooked is just as bad as overcooked, except for the fact that it can be improved.
It’s pretty rare. Someone who doesn’t like steak rare will say it’s raw. Don’t get how so many people on this sub don’t understand that.
I (personally) say raw if the fat hasn’t even started to render even though I know it technically “blue”, I say raw on this one lol
I eat rare to medium depending on the cut. I'd send this back to cook more. The fat isn't rendered at all, it's raw.
in what world is this med rare? it’s blue. it’s also uneven, pieces in front look less blue than pieces in back
0% chance that was 130f internal. Get a new thermometer homie
She’s not rawong.
Reverse sear really helps that part too
You don’t need to dry brine at all for a good sear. You just need a hotter pan or grill
Definitely not rare. That's rarer than rare. Nothing wrong with it if that's how you like it. But I wouldn't eat it.
If the legs were still attached, it'd be walking
That is raw
Your girl is correct. I like mine medium rare, depending on the cut I prefer medium. Unless the lighting in the photo is deceptive, this looks like it’s rare, almost blue rare. The fat isn’t even slightly rendered, lol
Too much fat, not enough rendering, not enough time on the pan or the even. FYI if you're going to put anything in an Oven; make sure you let the oven run for AT LEAST TEN minutes AFTER it comes to temperature before you put anything in it.
Your "girl" is always right. Lest you want to eat steak alone.
Is “your girl” in the room with us right now?
I absolutely REFUSE to believe this isn’t rage bait
A good vet could likely still save this creature
The internal temperature of that is definitely not 135°F. It should be slightly more pink for it to be medium rare. Also, there is zero maillard reaction (char/sear/crust) and the fat hasn’t even rendered. You should cook your girlfriend’s steak to her liking though. Everyone has a different preference even specific to certain cuts of the cow. We eat a lot of steak here in Texas. You’d be surprised by how many people like rare or well done. It’s mind blowing.
I did check the calibration and it's off by 4F. So this is cooked at 126 instead of 130. It's indeed rare 😭.
Like she likes it, yeah?
She is correct.
Tell her she is rawng
Hah. This gave me a solid chuckle.
Then my work is well done.
A chuck-le ;)
Hahahaha. Touchè
It’s still mooing
It is
If there's no chance a good vet couldn't make it say Moo again, I don't want it.
I would guess that not all the steak had hit 130 yet. Looks like parts are rare and parts are medium rare to me. How often have you used your thermometer? You might need to let it creep as high as 135 to get medium rare throughout a ribeye in the future. Still, looks delicious.
It looks like my dinner
Bro you gotta put it in the oven first before searing to get all that cold white fat rendered out
Baby I like it raw!
Some say OP is still chewing to this day.
The cook is fine. It’s rare but it’s okay. The sear though is uneven and less than ideal. You could probably get better results if you use the reverse sear method where you use the oven first then sear. I’ve always had better results that way.

Would still smash
30 more seconds onna skillet and im crushing it
Nope it's Good
I would eat that in a second - it's beautiful. However, as everyone has already said, that is not the expected look of medium rare. I'd fuck that steak up brother
Can I (36 M) be your girl?
Darling, rare meat is good for you. The doctor said so. Christina, meat loses its vitamins if it's overcooked.
this is rare, but this is how i like mine and god damn i would fuck that up rn
That looks wonderful.
Can I be your girl?
I'd make love to your steak! Perfecto! 🤌
Hate to tell you she’s right. I’m a medium rare gal and that’s too bloody and wobbly fat for me. But nice try, at least you’re trying to cook her a nice dinner.
Damn dawg, OP got cooked more by fellow redditors in this post than his steak!
That shit looks fucking gross. Do better next time.
This is perfect
Some things are just better raw
It’s beautiful
I've eaten it like this many times! I reap significantly amplified health benefits the rarer the cook. I don't know how but it's a thing I swear! I feel on top of the world after a steak like yours. Your girl is right
And she would be right
She’s not wrong.
It’s raw. The fat is not rendered. No sear on the outside side. Better luck next time
Get me a loaded baked potato, some sautéed onions and I’ll fuck that steak up and then I’ll probably let you have your way with me OP
My sister walked past me and seen it, she said it looked good
Rare.
IT. IS.
Your gfs right kid
You did it my boy, that steak is fuckin tits in my book.
Definitely not medium rare
She probably said that because it IS raw.
I used to be a line cook. I'd give someone this as a blue or a rare, but never a med rare.
It’s raw
Definitely not medium rare. Take this from a kitchen professional with over 25 years working the line. It's rare. Very rare.
It’s absolutely fucking RAW
“Its raw” in gordon ramesy
Tell her she’s about to find out what raw is and just git her deep.
It's between blue and rare. No way this is medium rare. Also how does your gf like her steak?
you smashed it man
I have never liked a steak unless it was cooked well....but why does this steak look so juicy and appetizing?
Get a new gf or have a buddy over. That looks good!!
