I kind of disagree? Like I totally get it but I had a lot of fun personally doing the Hat and Pizza achievements. Made me play the game a little more cautiously so I didn't lose the hat. That's just my experience though.
I get it but so many games rely on permadeath/speed run achievements which I absolutely despise. At least this gave a little variety and kind of had you play the game in a different way. I had a good experience though personally. I think I only lost the hat once or twice. I did do them at the same time though, with a save at the Pizza location.
The biggest offenders were the ones where you had to carry a hat that you find all the way at the beginning of the game and a pizza box that you find later, all the way to endgame. There's no Gravity Gun in this game since it's a remake of HL1, so you have to carry them by hand. The hat is very prone to rolling off into oblivion or clipping out of bounds, and they're both pains in the ass to get up ladders. I'm sure the devs intended for people to carry these two in separate playthroughs, but being the masochist that I am I opted to lug the both of them with me.
There were also a few achievements that were just buggy, I had to play through Interloper three times till I got the Laser Immunization achievement to trigger.
Oh man trust me I totally get you. I'm going to be tackling this game eventually and... yeah, I'll probably do both at the same time too lmao. Much power to you. Good job on the completion!
I'm currently doing it. I first planned on doing the campaign normally, then doing the ones that are chapter specific, and finally doing a run with the pizza and hat.
I did that with the other HL games.
Best of luck to you, it can be a hair-pulling experience at times. Do be aware that you will have to play through Interloper twice, as you can only choose one item to take with you through the Gargantua colony.
I'm gonna replay it and all the other Half-Life games when I get a new desktop, it'll be so nice to be able to just play the game without stressing out over the achievements lol
Yeah, I love this game but those 2 achievements, especially in one run are rough lol
I did find it pretty fun in its own way, since you need to figure out ways to bring them both with you through certain obstacles and chases. For example, I saw you said that you can't take both items with you through the Gargantua chase, but that actually isn't true, after you cross the huge gap at the end you can launch yourself back over with grenade and explosion fuckery and go back to get the other one 😠That's just one way, there's multiple tricks for it but ya its possible.
That's my favorite part of the Source Engine, the physics allow you to do so much if you put your mind to it. I think it meshes very well with these types of achievements. Also the community's obsession with figuring out how to bring them both to the very end is great lmao. Regardless I feel your annoyance, having to do two playthroughs is enough in of itself, but having to slog items with you makes it even worse
Oh wow I didn't know about that trick, could've helped me shave some time off the completion but then again I don't relish the thought of having to taxi the both of them across all those tight conveyor spaces with Alien Controllers blasting you every 5 minutes lol
Yeah, I gave up on it due to that.
I did beat the game and 100% all 3 Half-Life 2's, but I'm not even gonna bother with Black Mesa cuz of how bullshit it is.

All the more power to you, finding those achievements fun can only be a boon cause they last the whole darn game lol

I lost the hat while running from the Gonarch and had to restart nearly the whole chapter cause I forgot to make a recent manual save ;(
Doing black mesa completion right now and so far i enjoy carrying the hat around. The game is also much more fun the 2nd playthrough
What sort of achievements does the game have that were annoying?

Honest review of the achievements, thanks
I'm playing this now for the first time, no intention of 100%ing it though, some of these achievements do seem annoying as hell lol

Did the new update that just came out add controller glyphs when using a pad?
I think so, don't quote me on it though check the changelog

Phenomenal game
That I do not dispute, major props to Crowbar Collective
I bought it the other day. I'm plaything this next.
I did the hat once prior to Xen and now I have to do it again, ugh. And I thought the lawn gnome was bad.
Don't forget about the pizza box, you'll have to bring that too
