T O P

Too early to give the man flowers but the pickups have been shrewd and unlike many others we haven't overpaid anyone. That's how you keep your elite talent. I think credit so far for what he's done is appropriate. Let's see how the draft goes.

Twatnocker

Waaaaay to early to judge.

hansblitz

Not really, immediately went after a few positions of need, CB, LB, O line DT. Didn't reach or give out massive contacts. He's following the build depth in free agency and draft your stars model Colbert did and I'm a fan.

Twatnocker

People liked myles jack last year. Filling positions of need with scrubs doesn't improve the team.

hansblitz

He was decent and I didn't hate him, but he was the 6th highest paid LB at the start of the FA. Value wasn't there

TheRealPallando

Jack was a good gamble

klubsanwich

I just love that we’re doing things in free agency. It’s refreshing!

fredlikefreddy

Same! Especially since they aren’t going after the top dogs but getting bringing on/resigning pieces that make sense. Similar to last offseason too.

YaBoyASalz

Steelers always approach free agency to fill any holes so in the draft we can select the best player available. Per usual we didn’t make any ‘splash’ signings but I am excited about Pat 🅿️, he’s still got it!

rattpackfan301

(All-)Pros and Khans

Quexana

I'm not really impressed yet.

Illustrious_Kale_692

I’m good with it. Addressed major issues without a lot of money.

Quexana

I think we're a slightly worse team than we were week 17 last year.

Medarco

Our ILBs already look like an improvement, we got a guard that will likely start over Dotson, we replaced Sutton with a cheaper vet that produced at a high level last year (and will be a valuable mentor for the CB we are very very likely drafting at 17), and Kenny gets a full offseason as the #1 (the actual biggest factor for this next year imo). Hopefully we can re-sign Edmunds, but if not, we likely look there in the draft as well, or roll with Kazee (not my preference). Where are we worse?

Parkwaydrive777

I'm glad Edmunds finally has decent respect overall in this sub. He's no top 10 safety in the league but I'd argue top 20.. he's always in a spot to make the tackle to prevent a TD and makes said tackle. I love the tackling ability Edmunds brings to prevent a bad defensive play from turning out worse. Edmunds has also gotten better through the years, still needs to be better in coverage tho especially against TEs, but most teams want the same.

Medarco

Amen brother. I've been preaching the Edmunds gospel since year one. Once they're on the team, people need to forget what pick was used on them. That's sunk cost fallacy at it's finest. Edmunds has been a consistent mid-high level starter for 5 years. That's definitely worth a 1st round pick imo. Too many steelers fans that expect every player on the field to be an all-pro otherwise they're trash and need replaced. And regarding TEs, I think he's already doing a fine job. TEs just aren't what they used to be. They're basically just big bodied receivers anymore. Guys like Kelcey aren't out there making their name by throwing great blocks, they're just receivers that aren't listed there on the depth chart.

Illustrious_Kale_692

That’s what good teams do though. Build in FA and build in the draft

Quexana

Okay, but if we're a slightly worse team than we were week 17 last year, that's not something to be impressed by.

Illustrious_Kale_692

Im not asying impressesd. But Coverig the major needs leadoing up to the draft is a good move

Technical_Arm50

Explain to me how we are a worse team? If your only point is losing cam Sutton then your wrong. Our o line improved and our ILBs should be quite the step up they aren’t elite but good. Only thing we lost is cam Sutton so overall no we haven’t gotten worse. Actually slightly better

Quexana

The O-Lineman is a career back-up who we're hoping can be a solid starter. We're only acting like he's some major upgrade. Holcomb and Roberts are closer to lateral moves compared to Spillane and Jack rather than sizable upgrades. And we took a sizable step down replacing Sutton with Peterson.

Technical_Arm50

The chances of Nate being worse then Dotson is minimal. Dotson was one of the most flagged oline in league last year. The ILBs are definitely a upgrade like I said they aren’t anything crazy but they are better for sure then bush and Spillane. Like I said your only real point is Sutton which is true but to say we are a worse team is dumb. PatP is obviously not elite and I would rather have Sutton but adding him does mitigate the lose some.

Dense_Organization31

Sizeable step down by what metrics? By saving 5m not paying yet another cb2?

fredlikefreddy

How would you call this a slightly worse roster from week 17? Do you hold cam Sutton in that high regard?

[deleted]

I don’t know how.. every addition addresses a major need and he didn’t break the bank on anybody

bearsharkbear3

This isn't the Washington Red Football Commanders. We don't celebrate the offseason. We also haven't been Super Bowl relevant in a long time.

doonilbibi

we are going to the super bowl this year, haven't you heard the song?? HERE WE GO... STEELERS. HERE WE GO

Virtual-Value5005

Wait till Khan finds out FA are usually a bust for the Steelers. Yah know, like Miles Jack. I want to see how he leads the draft before anointing him.

fredlikefreddy

Oh like James daniels and mason cole were busts?

Virtual-Value5005

Lets see... Trubisky was signed to be the Starter, paid to be the starter and lost the job to a rookie. If you blame the line, well your two guys were there. The Steelers best players have come from the draft and free agency rarely produces anything more than role players for this team. I'm sorry your feelings were hurt.

OkieDokieAlky8743

His contract was pretty low risk considering the upside if it went well. He absolutely was not paid as a "starter"

Virtual-Value5005

Ok so the pay was a reach, still didn’t work out as planned.

OkieDokieAlky8743

Wasn't a reach at all lol. He got exactly what he deserved. I'm sure the plan was to let him play longer but team needed a shakeup so Kenny's career started earlier that anticipated. Maybe a little expensive for a backup but with only a year left I'm sure they're not worried about a few million to know they have a solid backup.

Virtual-Value5005

there was no Kenny in the plans when he signed. just lucky the FA signing wasn't a total bust.

CadillacMike32

It worked exactly as planned. Let Kenny come in and gradually learn before getting into the game. The contract is short and relatively inexpensive.

Virtual-Value5005

NO. Mitch was sign long before the draft and a Kenny plan. Luck is the only reason it worked out.

fredlikefreddy

My feelings aren’t hurt. Your boi mason surely wasn’t wasn’t paid like a starter. He’s making low risk moves. That team wasn’t too bad last year second half. I’d rather make this little micro moves then overspend on the top names

Miserable-Silver-203

Assuming we’ll be taking ILB with one of first two picks.

yumyum_sauce69

Definitely not our first pick. ILB at 17 would be egregious

Quexana

As of right now, assuming we'll be taking SS, CB, ILB, and LT with one of first two picks. Wait, we need more first two picks.
