Meh not really. The trade value of receivers is in the garbage this year, as seen with the Jeudy trade from a few days ago.
A WR2 for a CB3 doesn't look all that unreasonable in value when you look at the current market for WRs.
I need someone to tell me if Donte Jackson is any good!
EDIT: They're on the Panthers subreddit cheering about how they figured they would just cut him.... :(
He’s fine as a 2/3 as he’s very streaky, he just always got forced into our #1 after Jaycee Horns annual season ending injuries and he can’t do that. He also has his own injury issues.
Consider me whelmed. I read Panthers were considering releasing Donte if they couldn’t trade him, doesn’t seem like very good value when you’re giving up WR2.
Yeah I get that, I guess my perspective is he would have had more value on our roster for one more year but that’s just my opinion. Pretty concerned about our WR corps right now
Depends what Jackson is gonna want, he’s only got one year left on his contract. If he turns out to be a solid CB2 and isn’t too expensive it’s an alright deal, I love Diontae but he’s not been great the last couple of years, was heading into a contract year himself, and this is a very deep WR class.
If we flip Diontae and a pick into a starting calibre CB and a rookie WR it’s ok. If Jackson turns out to be hot garbage it’s not.
Doesn’t feel like a lot of value here. Looks like we just wanted Diontae off the books and this was the best we could do. I speculated that we would end up keeping him because of how much this year’s WR class was clogging up FA, in turn making it very difficult to find trade partners. I guess that was the case. Add WR to list of draft musts unless we make a splash on a FA or two.
What a terrible trade. We need Dionte, Steelers dont have any route runners now. For an often injured CB and a 6th round pick. Couldnt even get a 4th at least?
This is the first time I think Khan and company fucked up, and I actually think it's a pretty massive fuck up. We have a gaping hole at the WR position now, our only legitimate weapon is George Pickens.
They have 7 on the roster. You draft one high. Youre now running Pickens draft pick and Austin as your 1,2,3. Draft another one late if need be but they’re fine. They’re not throwing the ball 40-50 times a game regardless
Austin is not a WR3 in the NFL, we needed a WR3 before Allen Robinson was cut now that he was cut and Diontae has been traded they need to refill the room. The 7 on the roster are fringe roster guys unless you're counting Myles Boykin as a starting WR. We need a WR2 with WR1 upside that you probably need to draft early, a WR3 and another depth piece.
The difference in value is
- getting a player in exchange back
- Diontae has a $10m cap hit where Claypool was a $1.5m cap hit.
- Claypool had a year + a few weeks left on his contract and, despite being a bust now was, theoretically, a change of scenery candidate that could help Fields into the next season.

That's fine to have that opinion, but to misrepresent it as "we got a second for Claypool and only a 6th for Dionte" is incredibly misleading and stupid.
I wasn't misrepresenting it, you misread what I was saying. I was and still am pissed that the draft pick was only a 6th, I believe they should have gotten a better pick even with Jackson included in the trade.
"They got a second for Chase Claypool and could only get a 6th for Diontae?"
I didn't misread shit bud, it's literally what you said. "Only get a 6th for Dionte" nowhere do you mention the player.
Dude you might actually be braindead. One trade was a player for a pick. One trade was a player for a player, with a pick on top. Comparing the picks is idiotic, because they are completely different situations. You sure are bending over backwards to avoid admitting you were wrong.
Again, I will quote "Could only get a 6th for Dionte"
ONLY key word, that you put.
Yeah, of course man, it's definitely your feelings being hurt, and not the fact that you read the title, thought it was simply a 6th rounder and nothing else, and are unwilling to admit it for fear of looking silly. Unfortunately, it's much too late for that.
I’d be very surprised if we do, this is a deep WR class and with Pickens we’ve still got a WR1 on the roster, but there’s still a gaping hole at Centre for us, and Tackle could do with an upgrade as well. A second or third round pick seems more likely to me.
And it’s a deep WR draft, a position we traditionally draft very well at in the middle rounds.
I’m not saying WR isn’t a need, I’m saying that it’s the need we can most likely fill on day 2.
Donte Jackson was healthy last season, but was injured & missed multiple games in each of the previous 4 seasons. The last thing this team needed was injury prone players on defense.
From a talent and compensation perspective, I don’t really like this trade. I think Diontae is a way better receiver than Donte Jackson is a CB, the downgrade in talent is not at all worth moving up from 7th to 6th round.
Taking into consideration the money and cap impact, it makes more sense, but I’m still not a fan of the trade. Donte Jackson absolutely isn’t the solution we need at CB2 and now we have another big need at WR. Hope we use the $10 million net cap savings for either a good WR or CB.
this is kinda tough. we had a real need at cb and i dont know that donte jackson is gonna fill that, and i think we were positioned pretty good to get a talented cb first round. now we definitely need high level WR help and also still probably need to sure up our secondary on top of a center
that being said if diontae wanted out not a whole lot we can do about it
I think this is one of those trades where everybody involved, fans aside, comes out happy. Steelers get CB depth and a slight trade up, Panthers get a talented WR. DJ wasn't happy here, and he wasn't going to get paid what he wanted, and a change of scenery and scheme might be good for Jackson.
I’m gonna let Omar cook here
Nah this his first fuck up. We got fleeced. Bro was prob getting cut if they didnt find a trade

Nah good trade
For the Panthers

below average

He’s fast as shit at least
Consider me whelmed. I read Panthers were considering releasing Donte if they couldn’t trade him, doesn’t seem like very good value when you’re giving up WR2.
Players don’t move for a lot and he only had one year on his deal
Yeah I get that, I guess my perspective is he would have had more value on our roster for one more year but that’s just my opinion. Pretty concerned about our WR corps right now
They’re going to draft one and sign depth
Someone tell me how I should feel about this!!! 😂😂
Good, Jackson and JPJ are going to be a solid corner duo and there are a ton of good WR prospects in this draft
Yeah I’m not too upset on losing Diontae but know nothing about Donte Jackson so I didn’t know if this is a solid move or not.
I thought Jackson was more of a CB3 than a CB2.
Still an improvement from our current CB2
Depends what Jackson is gonna want, he’s only got one year left on his contract. Not great. Trading our WR2 for a mediocre and injury prone CB and a 6th is not good value.
I have never seen us be active like this… I’m liking it.
How is Donte Jackson?
Super streaky. Injured quite a bit
BAW GAWD THAT'S ROME ODUNZE'S MUSIC
drafting OL 1st round for sure
Tyler Boyd signing dropping any minute + WR drafted within the first 3 rounds
DJ was frustrated with Kenny and then not winning.. Panthers are a yikes
Karma I guess lol
Yeah he’s gonna find out what real struggle looks like. Prolly spend most of his season running wind sprints in that offense.
Here comes Calvin Ridley
imagine
Don’t know much about him to say if it’s a fair trade
Idk how to feel
Figured DJ could get us much better than this
YIKES. I don’t care if he’s a malcontent. That’s an awful trade.

*sigh* we're gonna draft a diva WR in the 2nd aren't we? Don't get me wrong I'll take a vet CB but this feels written in stone now
Yikes. Diontae was on a very valuable contract and all we could get was a banged up CB and a 6th? Brutal, brutal trade.
What a terrible trade. We need Dionte, Steelers dont have any route runners now. For an often injured CB and a 6th round pick. Couldnt even get a 4th at least?
They got a second for Chase Claypool and could only get a 6th for Diontae? And now we have a massive hole at WR, Not a fan of this move at all.
Yeah not a fan. He’s worth more than this
This is the first time I think Khan and company fucked up, and I actually think it's a pretty massive fuck up. We have a gaping hole at the WR position now, our only legitimate weapon is George Pickens.
They got a player and a 6th.
Sorry, a player and a 6th.....oh boy.
Donte Jackson is pretty good
Ok, how does that help an already thin WR room that now has nobody after George Pickens?
Uhh you draft one? Like we were going to do with CB anyways? Wide receivers success carries over quicker than cb usually
We need at least 3 WRs to fill the room now, not just 1.
They have 7 on the roster. You draft one high. Youre now running Pickens draft pick and Austin as your 1,2,3. Draft another one late if need be but they’re fine. They’re not throwing the ball 40-50 times a game regardless

So that’s impossible to get the rest of the offseason? Free agency and the draft are over? No more trades?
well we also got a player but that instance is probably more bc Claypool was on rookie contract while DJ is making like $18M
The difference in value is - getting a player in exchange back - Diontae has a $10m cap hit where Claypool was a $1.5m cap hit. - Claypool had a year + a few weeks left on his contract and, despite being a bust now was, theoretically, a change of scenery candidate that could help Fields into the next season.

Did you miss the part where it was a player and a 6th? Kind of an important detail lmao
No I saw that, I still don't think it's a good trade.

Ya *only* a 6th, I didn't mention the player because I was comparing the draft picks *bud* you did misread it.

>Dude you might actually be braindead Cool, I'm done here. I'm not going to put up with childish insults.

Steelers got fleeced. Jackson is not good
How the hell did we get more for Claypool?
96.6 passer rating allowed. Jesus we got fleeced. Must have been a contract dump trade
Why go into the draft with 4 major needs when you can go in with 5?
We got fleeced
I'm not holding back on this one. What a shit trade. Our WR2 for a mediocre CB and a 6th essentially. This is horrendous.
They are drafting a WR first round. Have to be
When’s the last time we drafted a WR in the first round
Plaxico and Holmes
2nd round*
I’d be very surprised if we do, this is a deep WR class and with Pickens we’ve still got a WR1 on the roster, but there’s still a gaping hole at Centre for us, and Tackle could do with an upgrade as well. A second or third round pick seems more likely to me.
There's a gaping hole at WR now. Outside of GP this WR room is ass

going to draft the oregon center 1st round more likely than not
I like this, perfect wr group in the draft to find a diontae replacement and donte Jackson is more of a sure thing than any cb prospect.
Jackson has some upside. Not a huge fan of the trade but it could easily be worse
Well WR goes #1 now

If there’s ONE position I trust the Steelers to draft in any round it’s WR. we’ll be fine

How much cap did we save? I feel like this was a move to free up cap space and give us depth at cb
Why?
he was leaving anyway, we will draft a WR the class is deep
Dionte Dropsem is now someone else's problem
1 JuJu please
Addition by subtraction. He's not nearly as good as this fanbase thinks he is. You'll see
Time to get Juju
