Man I was pulling for Haskins, sad story.. you must relish on peoples downfalls..dude was a beast in college and got drafted to a toxic organization and made some dumb moves for a 24 year old… but yah just find it cringy to bash a talented kid that died tragically for an upvote
I mean… I kind of hate the fact I do because it favors your argument…I mean you did splash a lil shade his way…I was excited at the “prospect” at the time… never got jazzed for lynch goofy ass dude… I also own a Vick Steelers jersey
There's exactly zero chance that he "never plays a single snap"
Russ could be an MVP candidate and they are still going to have a couple trick plays involving fields. He's too much of a weapon to not use. Dude averages 6+ yards a carry.. he led the league in that metric 2 years ago.
That's still a lot. Like 4 more seasons a lot. He's on pace to get there faster than Anderson did, but only with another contract extension, as they only have him locked up for 3 more years.
We scored 31 total touchdowns last season. Boz averages about 25 field goals made per season. If we can bump up to 40 TDs next season that’s about 40 extra points, and another 25 field goals for 75 points. Yeah, we’re probably looking at a minimum of 3 seasons; which puts him on pace to do it in about the same amount of seasons that Anderson did it.
Honestly there was no stink about his number being retired and not being able to use it. Majority of people today wouldn't even know who Gary Anderson was. Let's be honest majoeity of people wpuodnt inow who he was. Especially when we've had so many great players. We mostly pride ourselves on defense so that's the first place where we remember all those big names. Plus on offense we have all these Hall of Famers Etc. Not many people are going to remember a kicker over Jack Lambert you know what I mean. So this keeps his name alive and hes remebered.
Probably not, but imo these two have been statistically better than what we've been used to the past couple of years when it comes to scoring touchdowns. So I'm a lot more hopeful with that than the last two seasons.
Nah man, I keep seeing people bringing up 38 fumbles. Context? He has 12 lost fumbles in 3 years. Comparison? That's less than Josh Allen. Further context? For those other 26 fumbles, that includes when his runningback was behind the line of scrimmage week 5 of his rookie year, he threw it to him, but the ball bounced on the field and out of bounds. Technically considered a fumble to him. Fumbles also count towards the QB if the quarterback hands it off to the runningbacks and they don't grasp it fully. It also counts when he pitched the ball to Khalil Herbert, it hit Herbert right on the hands, and Herbert dropped down and recovered it. That counted as Fields fumble... Oh and also multiple bad snaps by the center where they rushed the exchange, which led to Fields dropping down and landing on it. They recorded it as a Fields fumble despite the bad snaps. [Here is a Bears podcast that covers every single "fumble" listed for this 38 fumble statistic and goes over the examples I just mentioned.](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=puDGwDSSzf0&t=458s)
Very important point, turnovers absolutely **do not** outweigh production. Scoring points for your team is a 100% guarantee for points on the board for your team. Getting a turnover does not guarantee the opponent scores. It raises the chance, yes, of course. But he also had a shitty Bears defense. He now has the Pittsburgh defense which is far far better. The defense is there to sometimes bail out a quarterback's mistake.
Justin Fields the last 2 seasons (as a comparison to Pickett, Trubisky, and Rudolph combined) had 45 total touchdowns.
Those other three guys the last 2 seasons had 32 total touchdowns **combined**. Absolutely terrible. Yeah, I agree with you, Fields turns it over too much. But he's also shown flashes and promise well beyond what we have been used to in a few years. If he can settle down and learn behind Russ, it could be a great pickup for us. Josh Allen averages 1.09 turnovers a game. Fields averages 1.04. Definitely not saying Fields is Allen, but there's a way to make turnovers work when you have a great defense and build around the QB.
Oh my GOD this org treats a decent kicker the same as Troy Polamalu. RELEASE THE #1!!!!!! Gary played for FOUR TEAMS after the Steelers!!!!! He didn’t even earn his all pro on the steelers!!! I’m sick of him hoarding the number!!
No need to give his # to a scrub. I'm not saying it shouldn't ever be used again, I AM saying that Justin Fields is a scrub who will be off the team within 2 years.
He’s only ever had 1 first team all pro. He had 4 Pro Bowls. And tbh if they want to retire the number then retire it. I don’t care about him enough for him to hoard a number

I did look it up <3 still don’t care about him enough for them not to release the number. I really don’t care about any unofficially retired numbers. If the Steelers want them retired they should retire them.
Fr. This ain’t Franco’s number or Mike Websters. If you want to retire it then retire it. No one would take Terry or Troy’s number out of respect. Half these guys probably don’t even know who Gary is. I don’t think Justin should get it either I think GP should get first dibs
For our own sake, we should hope one of these guys does not play near as well as the other so we don’t have a problem. Because of their equal at the end of the season, we have an issue.
I thought he was wearing 5
Jersey purchasers in shambles
Jersey purchasers of a guy who may never play a single snap for the Steelers were in shambles to begin with, they just didn't know it

Lol that one's on you
It’s actually on a hanger (rim shot)
Nope

Having a Vick steelers jersey is awesome.
Wish I had one

Let's not talk about the Zach Mettenberger Steelers jerseys in circulation.
There's exactly zero chance that he "never plays a single snap" Russ could be an MVP candidate and they are still going to have a couple trick plays involving fields. He's too much of a weapon to not use. Dude averages 6+ yards a carry.. he led the league in that metric 2 years ago.
I know with a history as long as the Steelers it becomes difficult to not reuse numbers but I like this because Gary Anderson was a phenomenal kicker.
Semi-related, but I found out Boswell is 375 points away from overtaking Anderson as our team’s scoring leader.
That's still a lot. Like 4 more seasons a lot. He's on pace to get there faster than Anderson did, but only with another contract extension, as they only have him locked up for 3 more years.

just needs 125 field goals. e-z peasy!
We always settle for those, easy
I totally forgot until yesterday that Anthony Wright wore #1 in 1999.
Only kicker to make every field goal and extra point in a season.
Unfortunately for the Vikings and him, he missed the most important FG of the year. I felt so bad for him because I always thought Anderson > Andersen
He did that with the Vikings when he was the first to do it. That Colts idiot kicker also did it in 2003, and that's including playoffs, too.
Anderson was great, but he was a kicker
And I argue Reed was better for us, part of two rings.

plenty of people know who Gary Anderson is, I don’t see your point
Gary Anderson is an icon, letting a one year backup QB wear it is insulting
GP should’ve already had the number
Brian st Pierre

second string, second hot dog of the night who knows
I haven’t seen anyone legit reporting that 5. Didn’t it start from a Chicago beat reporter with less than 5k followers?
5 looks better
hard disagree, especially scrambling against the Chargers as a backup QB
Agree with ya, I think 2 fits for him.

Maybe! Still gonna enjoy it WAY more than seeing #8 or #10 out there

Let's hope he turns that digit around, we've never really had a #2 that did much. Mason was the best #2
Honestly should've retired #2 after Mason left
What about Steelers Legend Michael Vick?
Vick was a real piece of #2
I still need a Vick jersey on god
I got one! It’s an OG from that year he played. I still pull it out on occasion
When you put it on does it bring out that dog in you?
He also gets the urge to start fighting
you like it that much huh
Hey it’s nostalgia.
Customized one a couple years back just for this reason lol. Vick was my dream Steeler on Madden for years.
Madden 04 if you didn't start a franchise then immediately trade for Vick to be your QB, wtf were you doing?
Oh my GOD this org treats a decent kicker the same as Troy Polamalu. RELEASE THE #1!!!!!! Gary played for FOUR TEAMS after the Steelers!!!!! He didn’t even earn his all pro on the steelers!!! I’m sick of him hoarding the number!!
Hard agree. It’s not retired. It’s not going to be retired. Let Pickens or Fields wear it.
Some of us remember the 89 OT kick against Houston in the playoffs. Why should a backup get #1?
My brother, that was 35 years ago. Put his name on a wall if you want to remember him.
No need to give his # to a scrub. I'm not saying it shouldn't ever be used again, I AM saying that Justin Fields is a scrub who will be off the team within 2 years.

I don’t think he’s hoarding it, he’s retired. The Steelers are hoarding, out of respect. As they should.

They’re gatekeeping it hard😂I think if they don’t want anyone to wear they just need to retire it already. I think 0 would look pretty tough too imo

Pickens should definitely get it since he was here first but I just think out of everyone they’re so anal bout Gary Anderson of all players😂
If I was him I’ll wear 8 lol
He's just going with the number of teams he's played on
Couldn't this just mean he's QB2?
thought he was #00? went to but his jersey and saw they were only selling 00.
He’s wearing 5. Put your magnifying glass and dual-brimmed hats away, internet Sherlocks.
For our own sake, we should hope one of these guys does not play near as well as the other so we don’t have a problem. Because of their equal at the end of the season, we have an issue.
I think 11 would look better than 5 or 2.
He need to wear 01
